Dropped this about chapter 42. The whole theme just made me uncomfortble. I have no problem reading post r*pe/non-con PTSD before. As long as it is properly constructed.

This story has the r*pe/non-con trauma as one of its main core but the author only touched the subject lightly. Like MC’s trauma was just a tool to make people love him more. It came when the author wants people to feel sad for him, but it was gone without a trace when in normal situation. It makes the story feel forced.

I don’t... more>> hate MC. I feel for his past and like the background theme. It’s heartwrenching and sad and I cried the whole evening reading through it. It’s also make sense that he wasn’t smart in the last life, therefore, he wasn’t smart in this life too.

What really made me drop this though because all the characters treated him like a baby. Especially the ML. And I don’t think that’s healthy for their relationship. Not only in the spoilt sense but also in term of consent and boundary. MC was 24. He’s an adult but people around him touch him and took over handling his body without asking for his consent, and the ML treated him like a toddler but took advantage of it to touch him sexually? It’s like reading an implying pe*ophile ML having an unconsent relationship with MC. Even with just chapter 42, I don’t think it’s going to be better later.

And I don’t like the part where...

Spoiler

MC’s sister propose to ML to get married with her even though she discovered that ML was in love with her brother. I mean, what sister do that? It ruined the image of a loving sister in my mind. If only she doesn’t know, I would still can sympathized with her, but knowingly snatching ML for herself, even thinking her brother didn’t like ML, was a bit mich for me.

[collapse]

What I like was an emotional plot of this story though. I was well planned and heartwrenching, but the characters and logic was still forced and strain thorough out the chapters I’ve gone thorough <<less

This is a good novel, thou people have different taste I personally love the plot and the flow of the story. But just a reminder to those who are sensitive to emotions, please read at your risk cause just like me I felt depressed while reading the novel. But there are also funny scenes and conversation that left me laughing so hard my family think I'm crazy.

I stopped reading this at around chapter 170-180, and just have a chance to pick it up again and finished it today.

I'd say the first half of the story is quite interesting, although sometimes annoying, it's at least realistic. (4/5 stars) Then as the story progresses, it becomes increasingly boring. There are too many side couples, as well as too many nonsenses. The villians here are all just plain evil and s*upid (except for the final boss). Although there's no obvious flaw overall, I'm kind of disappointed with the MC.... more>> He's born pampered, and can't do shit. I don't really recognised him doing anything other than playing to be honest. And he's pretty s*upid with his last kidnapping incident too. I can see why he's dead in his last life, if there's no ML, even having ten lifes wouldn't be enough for him. <<less

It's a good story as it talks about self esteem issues, abandonment issues, depression, and PTSD, so far the mental illness part is actually quite solid and there is no things like ~instant cure~ like other romance novels when the protagonist found ~true love~ and is all fine after dating their love interest (well so far from what I have read and I will drop it if it does happen because I hate that trope so much). There is a family aspect where the family are all walking in eggshells... more>> around the protagonist and are trying to help him. And so far I am in love with the novel HOWEVER

Do not read this novel expecting fluff and marshmallows.

This novel is full of trigger warnings and if you do suffer from depression, self harm issue or mental health issues please be aware that this novel is triggering as it talks about su*cide and such so please re consider reading this if you do suffer from any mental health issues. And it will make you feel worse if you read it when you are down and not in a good state of mind.

As much as I live this novel so far it has triggered me a couple of times as well and I had to stop multiple times in specific parts due to how depressing it was and had to collect myself before continuing to read it. (Why do I continue reading it you say if it triggers me its apparently because im a masochist :))

For real tho its full of trigger warnings so read this at your own risks

Other than that if you are a normal, mentally healthy person who does not suffer any underlying mental health isuses, its actually a pretty good read.

Tldr: its a pretty solid story that touches on mental health issues, so is triggering to some so read at your own risk <<less

I agree with @gryffinpuff

The novel was very good until that point.
Spoiler

When the ML slept with Bai in that situation it felt very wrong, especially given Bai's past and no previous consent or inclination (from ML's perspective) while he was sober. Before they were openly displaying his trauma, and taking it seriously, only to up and go do this. It wasn't romantic or cute, it just left a bad taste in my mouth.

While we know that Bai loves ML undyingly, ML had no idea of it before that night. And even then, it was the drunk ramblings of someone who was hardly conscious and had been drinking heavily for the first time. I realize the author didn't intend anything bad, but I feel ML should have at the very least left it at a kiss (and been regretful of taking advantage of MC so defenseless) and been done with it. It shouldn't have gone as far as it did. Even going past the consent part, I feel like it was unsatisfying from a novel stand point. There was no build up, no tension or anticipation. Bai got drunk in a time of emotional vulnerability and they f*cked. It felt both unsatisfying and unsettling.

After that, it feels as though their relationship progresses too fast.

I mean, they've already slept together (drunkenly, though ML was completely sober) before Bai even confessed to ML and before they even sorted out their feelings. After that, ML is openly head over heels for Bai, and Bai is timidly head over heels back. It's not that this is bad, I just thought that it would have happened over the course of the novel. I was under the impression that there would be a bit more struggle, a little more misunderstandings given Bai's past and ML's part in it (abandoning him), that they would have to work the problems between them out, and that the relationship between them would slowly but surely improve and their misunderstandings would be shed.

Basically I thought there was going to be a build up, and instead they shot right to the end before they even had a chance to start. ML, in my opinion, is also sort of turning into the typical ML. At the beginning he was controlled, reliable and the caring-older-sibling/older friend kind of type, now he seems to be turning into the big bad wolf that just wants to eat the little helpless lamb. The way he sees Bai feels more hungry, even if it's still ever devoting and blind, his intentions aren't entirely pure. I liked him better when he was caring and considerate.

[collapse]

Again, I don't think this would be as bad, if not for Bai's past. It just leaves me a little uncomfortable, the way ML is becoming, and a little disappointed that he's turning into the stereotypical ML when he had his own thing going before, but that's just a little nitpick. He still very much loves Bai, but it feels different. Like something changed.

To be clear, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel when I first started. I had high hopes and was looking forward to reading the rest and seeing Bai and the ML's relationship explored and seeing the interesting dynamic between them and how it would play out. For that, because I was excepting something good, I might be too harsh now that I feel disappointed. I feel this isn't a bad novel, it's just not a great one. I will probably finish the novel, if only to see where to goes, and because Bai is so cute. Although depending on how their relationship develops from here, I might end up dropping it.

On the note of the novel developing, @arixari (does tagging even work?)

Does the story really turn out like that? Because if so, that honestly sounds like it went to hell.

Sorry. I wouldn't usually write a review at this point seeing as I couldn't read it to its end, but I am so frustrated here.

I've tried twice to read this one. The first time, I made it to chapter 53, the second time, I couldn't make it past chapter 48.

My biggest problems:

... more>> 1. Unpleasant ML

2. Unpleasant MC

3. Unpleasant Cast

4. Unpleasant Plot

5. Unpleasant Narrative

Now. I am usually able to get past even two of the above when present in a novel. I will even admit that under the right circumstances, I can even make do with 4 out of 5.

However, some things are unsalvageable. There needs to be a certain balance, and emotional pay off for me as a reader.

If the ML is going to pull a move like proposing to the sister because he fell in love with the little brother, at least make it believable and plausible. It makes no sense, and feels more like a "don't want to figure out how to make the ML go from indirectly causing his death to being his happy end, so just hand-wave everything into a big fat misunderstanding" kind of plot device than anything.

If the MC is going to be brutally traumatized, commit su*cide, and regress to years prior where he is still surrounded by people who adore him, let it be relevant. It's probably the narrative execution, but the trauma is dropped in here like it's supposed to be a plot device instead of actually relevant to his character growth and choices. He certainly does not make better decisions regarding his mental health after being reborn. Which, in some ways, is realistic, but compounded with everything else highlights a very horrible execution to what could be a very artistic literary experience.

Speaking of: the Cast contributed to his trauma in the first life, and even in this new life, they aren't helping him get through it. They "adore" him, but only see the superficial problems and ignore the very blatant PTSD signs. Some things can be hidden, sure, but the changes have been noticeably drastic, pointed out by several characters, so why is it simultaneously awed over and ignored?

The plot, from what I can see, is an overdone Mary Sue White Lotus novel archetype. The whole thing hinges on a single misunderstanding of mutal "I love him, but he will hate me if he finds out." Which. I do not hate this kind of plot, I have read several. However, this on top of the above three points compound for a very unpleasant experience.

The narrative leaves so much to be desired. And to be honest, it is because of the narrative that I have decided to quit. I like the premise of this novel, and I can see where the author tried. But, each failure in proper execution is like a slap in the face and frustrates me.

To be frank--

I can stomach a lot of garbage for a good experience, but what? In my opinion, chapter 46-48, where the ML gets the MC "accidentally" drunk after the MC just had an explosive breakdown and it is implied that they even had s*x, is blatant non-con and even worse than the gangr*pe from his previous life.

That I'm supposed to ship this CP after that is where I draw the line. Absolutely. Not. <<less

There is a lack of love in this story. When you love someone, you want the best for them, you want them to be happy and most importantly... You want them to love themselves.

The ML doesnt love the MC, he only sees him as his doll.

The family... Love him like you would like a pet. Love means boundries, only spoiling someone, not caring watever he does anything to fullfil his life with? This isn't love.

... more>> Like I said, a pet.

Even though I can't blame the MC for... Doing nothing, I fo wish for hime to change. To grow up.

Having deppresion isn't growing up. Having mental illness doesn't make you a stornger or more mature person. It just means you are ill.

Truly, if the MC mind's wasn't broken by his past life, the ML behavior will break him.

I knew it was in vain, but I hoped for them to break up, learning to find themselves amd to understand that first they must learn to love themselves. Because they don't. <<less

Wonderful. The family and male lead are very protective and it's so adorable how they harbor their suspicions about what happened to the MC.
Spoiler

Great characters and the main couple realizes each other's feelings quickly.

I love how the reborn MC in this novel does not only want revenge, you know that type of protagonist who always calmly faces his former enemies and people who disgraced him without blinking an eye. Our MC is much more human. The story follows how his family and ML try to help him out of his suicidal thoughts that are understandable considering what MC had to go through in his past life and how he blames himself for all of it. I just feel refreshed by such a human MC. Because it's not normal if you can stand before someone who killed or disgraced you in your past life without being shocked or terrified. That's something a lot of revenge stories lack. The healing of MC.

TLDR: Story is too long. I still read it anyway. 4 stars. Don’t read this if you’re trying to cope with your own declining mental health.

I’d recommend this to anyone who was disappointed with Wolfish Silkpants. It’s more or less the same concept but with less in*est (which may or may not be your fetish, I’m not gonna judge) and the protagonist doesn’t use his second chance at life to be a blight on society. Instead, he actually tries to improve the lives of people around him.

The beginning of the... more>> story is it’s strongest aspect by far. It’s pretty rare for a rebirth plot to cover the absolutely insane sh*t that would affect your mental health if you just return-to-zeroed from a doujinshi scene with gore, snuff, ryona, and all those tags. With all that being said, it makes the protagonist super relatable because I know I sure as hell wouldn’t just instantly recover from that like a champ and start investing in the stock market with my knowledge of the future.

To give context, the protagonist, YiHan, is pretty much your average Joe Shmoe excluding his: 10/10 body and face and his extremely wealthy family. By that, I mean that he has no actual talent other than winning the genetic (and family) lottery. He’s not some genius, he’s a pretty impulsive dude all things considered and he did relatively mediocre in school (which is horrible by Asian standards). He mostly relies on his significantly more talented significant other to carry him through all the crazy sh*t that happens. And that’s something that I love, being comfortable with your own mediocrity. For some reason, I also got a huge Ryan Gosling vibe from him when he was suffering from his depression, but I’m not too sure why.

Some people might complain about how the family treats his PTSD, but I find it fairly realistic as this is how most Chinese families treat mental health. You may be able to tell that it’s not really a big thing in China to care about mental health. They also tend to believe in mystical stuff like Feng Shui, so I can get why they might think some voodoo crazy stuff is going on.

Anyway, the story mostly falls off at the halfway point when YiHan and his significant other get together and the side couples get their time in the limelight. This basically extends the duration of the story way too much. If you cut out the filler, this story could probably be less than half its length. Almost all of the side couples are gay men, which broke the immersion for me since homosexuality is supposed to be a pretty rare occurrence (otherwise humans would be extinct). But somehow YiHan knows like 12 gay dudes who’ve all found their respective perfect partners.

Another review encapsulates it perfectly: it’s like the author just wanted to write about other people (paraphrase). And I can feel that. It gets way less interesting after the protagonist gets his groove back. Much of the draw of the story is YiHan’s internal ‘man vs. Himself’ struggle, which I personally feel makes him extremely relatable, if not sympathetic at least. The story ends pretty abruptly too, so you can tell the author wasn’t feeling it anymore.

A big reason why I put this at 4 stars is because the translation quality is top-tier. It’s the best localization of a Chinese work I’ve ever seen. Although, one thing I would appreciate is for the neoliberal translator to stop lecturing the reader as to what morality system you should align yourself with. After all, I’d expect most people reading this to be able to separate fiction from reality. Although, seeing some other reviews, I might actually take back what I just wrote. If you’re the type of person who is trying to cope with your own mental health, I wouldn’t recommend you read this story. Anyway, I despise it when the writer translator treats the reader like an idiot. Reminds me of writing high school essays on books that nobody liked.

Also, the first arc is just that interesting. It’s disappointing that the author lost their own groove a hundred chapters in, but the whole PTSD arc is incredibly inspiring - not as an inspiration to people struggling with mental health, but as a story beat. Like, I could totally write a story just based off of the concept that the first arc presents.

And besides, it’s a hell of a lot better than Wolfish Silkpants. Who the hell time travels back just to go, “Yeah, I’m gonna make society a worse place” like damn bro ok <<less

First off, translator is amazing. They address the issues in the text while providing a really good explanation of why it’s an issue. And while I did sob for the first 150 chapters, it was sprinkled with levity and love. The MC’s family is beautiful and supportive. It’s not perfect, I don’t think there really is a book that is, it is more realistic than others while still keeping me interested. I gave it five stars, I recommend for people who want to go through emotional turmoil without romantic turmoil.... more>> I tried on this rating, it’s five am and I haven’t slept lmao. The chapters are really short so I made it up to chapter 58 in like, an hour.

I really like the MC, his personality is very realistic. He has his traumas, fears, and regrets. He's resolute on being a good child. He's probably the reason why I didn't give this novel a 1 star because;

His family is SO doting to the point that it's ridiculous. They act like the entire world revolved around the MC, like he's an 8 month old baby that needs their attention at all times. They would... more>> pry on every details of his life, it was honestly annoying. They never really tried to educate him, just spoiled him to the bones. No wonder MC met tragedy in his past life.

My other issue is the male lead. At first I was excited because I like childhood friends to lovers troupe, but he disappointed the sh*t out of me. He always treats MC like he's someone he should always protect 24/7, like a damned baby. And then
Spoiler

f*cked him while he's drunk.I get it, he was "seduced", but MC was f*cking drunk. He could have walked away and shit. He even took advantage of him by giving MC a bath, groping him all over. F*ck. That disgusted me so much.

ML doesn't have a consistent personality, to be honest. One moment, he's cold and fierce, the next like a dumb s*upid man. Might pick this novel again later, idk.

translation was great tho! I commend. <<less

One of my fav novel, it's the most realistic rebirth story I have read. Sadly, after half of story, the story was kinda overstretched. I stopped reading after Yihan was saved from second kidnapping. Another couple's story actually ruined my mood. Some reader consider Yihan's ptsd was too lightly. However, male r*pe victim's ptsd was different from female's. You can google it. Yes, male victims have less fear or panic related problem, including escape response, than female. Anger, aggression, depression and s*x addiction are more common to male victim. Another rebirth story with the MC being reborn after a tragic death. MC's family is very cute and love spoiling the MC (albeit to an unbelievable degree). What's refreshing (and something I never really thought about before) is that the past is not just glossed over after the rebirth, the MC suffers from PTSD and it is described realistically.

The ML seemed like a relatively likeable character, but it turned sketchy when he sleeps with the MC when MC is under influence of alcohol and in throes of his trauma flashback... more>> - that's not good at all! I love this story tho there's something that doesn't make sense like MC treatment for his trauma and depression. Sure, maybe the author doesn't really know about it.

So, this is just my opinion, so please don't get mad at me.

I enjoyed the first 100 chapters or so. I find the Bai's family relationship cute and enjoyed how doting they are towards Yihan. But it's starting to get ridiculous when the new female lead 'transmigrated'. And I stopped when that "fujoshi" girl appeared. Because if I were in Yihan's shoes, I would find it creepy to be friends with someone who fantasies about my relationship with someone else. I felt uncomfortable whenever she appears and her overall creepiness... more>> makes me close my tab.

But it's just me tho. Some people might like that aspect.

What I do like, however, is the mental illness part. I believe, due to personal experiences, that the authors writing on depression is pretty accurate (not a hundred percent. But everyone's depression is different) and the PTSD is written fairly well without it seems too overreached. My only problem is that the family sees his depression as "hypnosis" and doesn't really bring him to therapy. And another thing, although the ML is pretty devoted, in the last life, he left MC due to a misunderstanding. This caused the MC to be r*ped, humiliated and then killed. Although the ML DIDNT directly caused it, the MC did get killed in one of the Ml's warehouse. So....

Yeah, I only read half. Stopped because of that fujoshi girl. (I also wanted to say that there is nothing wrong with liking "Bl" or "Yaoi", but it's really strange if you fetishize it. <<less

I went in with low expectations so I'm not as disappointed as others. The story was an ok way to pass the time. Not a big fan of MC but didn't hate him, the ML was meh, he actually becomes overly possessive as the story goes on. All the side characters were okay, the focus on them in the later chapters felt like a spin off. I didn't mind the side characters stories, but I can see how it could be annoying or boring to other readers.

Spoiler

after ML is sick and the MC and ML get back together it becomes focused on the the side couples/characters. The "mystery evil boss" isn't revealed until chapter 218 and it's exactly who everyone expects... seriously no twist at all

All in all I just wasn't that attached to any character or plot. A solid 3 star average story that I may or may not read again.

I do wish the MC didn't read like a naive 16 year old with no growth from being reborn. Also the dubious consent for their first time was less that ideal, why are so many BL like this?

though, I think they were both drunk, MC way more than ML. I remember it mentioning the ML drinking too, so neither were clear headed. Still not okay, but sadly I've grown used to it in Chinese danmei novels.

So far, it's very disturbing, ML personality was full of negative emotion. He's down and beaten.

Usually in the novel with same genre and setting, it had a tenacious ML who come back up to fight for his new life.

But not this one.

I'll keep this on the shelf until I'm running out of reading material.
