Yes, the ML did stab the MC, but there's plot twist reason why. After being stabbed, the MC was reborn to an earlier point in the ML's life as a cat (or cat spirit). There's a ton of dogblood drama that happens in between, as ML seems to have bad relationships/attract the wrong people. Later on, MC as a cat is able to turn into a human with cat ears and a tail. Of course, ML discovers this and falls deeply in love with his 'cat'.

The plot twist, which reads like a M Night Shyamalan movie is the ML's jilted female love interest hires a person to kill ML's cat out of jealousy. That person was MC's original body (actually not the MC), and MC's original body tortures and kills MC as a cat. Coincidentally, that person also looked almost identical to the MC in his cat-human form. (Weird plot device?) But then MC's spirit follows that person who killed him until that person gets into an accident and possesses his body -- essentially becoming the human MC. MC then later on meets ML and has a relationship with him for about 3 years, until someone sends ML videos of MC's original body torturing and killing his cat. Then ML stabs MC as what was read in the first chapter.

To be honest, it's a huge plot hole, as it never explains where MC's spirit comes from if he originally wasn't the host of his original body. And feels like the entire novel was a plot device just to create unnecessary drama, lol.

Anyway, in the end, MC after getting killed in the past as a cat wakes up in his 'original' possessed body in the hospital. ML didn't kill him, as he really did love MC in the 3 years they were together. It's just he went a bit crazy that MC's original body killed his cat. MC reveals the ML didn't get involved with the person who killed his cat, but he took over the body of the person who killed him as a cat, so ML was in a relationship with MC the entire time.

Still an interesting read, though a lot of events felt like the author was choosing plot devices for drama.

Translator here! Prepare for a bit of rambling.

I reaaalllly love this novel. It has some dark themes, but the overall meat of the story was quite light and sweet and very funny. More than that, the actual plot ended up being very interesting. It felt a little bit like interesting plot points sandwiched in between silly fluffiness, which actually worked. There are multiple little twists that were actually quite clever and made me go "Ohhh, that's why this or that happened". I definitely expected it to be darker just because... more>> of who the author was, but don't be too scared.

Ok, let's dig in.

MC - Wen Cheng. He's silly and a little dense with a temper, but overall lovable. He isn't the smartest character in the world, but he's not unbearable. He remains amusing throughout for me, especially given his circumstances. Without spoiling too much, he does change over the course of the novel but it does have reason, and the plot is represented very well through him, if that makes any sense at all.

ML - Yu Linfei. Ahh, he gave me a lot of feelings, which was one of the best parts of this novel. There's the mystery of course, because at the very beginning, we see Yu Linfei coldheartedly kill our MC. Your perspective on the ML changes multiple times over the course of the novel as we see him interact with the MC. I won't give away spoilers, but I really love him. Both his interactions with friends and his actions as a pet owner feel real, and he doesn't feel completely invincible like many MLs do, if that makes sense. Witness a cold man turn into a crazy cat lady.

Other Characters - There are a few other characters in this novel, with two of them being more fleshed out. They aren't shown too much but they play an important part in the story, and as one of them is Yu Linfei's friend, he really fleshes out Yu Linfei as a character. Warning to anyone who dislikes darker elements, one side story is definitely a bit darker, with elements of

Storyline - My favorite part of this novel. There isn't a whole lot of actual stuff that happens, per se, but the twists and turns are revealed in an interesting way, and it's very satisfying when it all ties together and it's all revealed. Most every plot point has a reason for happening, and I find it very satisfying as a rebirth story because it's a little different. It got me thinking in a very good way. Writing/Tone - The writing definitely shifts tone and language well. In the MC's perspective, it's written very light, making the reading experience fun, but the author is able to pull it back and give the heavier moments impact. I have a lot of respect for this author, especially having read multiple novels for them. TL;DR this novel has interesting mystery, plot points, and plenty of fluff and comedic moments between two fun and compatible leads. <<less

Very interesting premise for a rebirth story. The mystery really gets you wanting to know more. Like can you or can't you trust the ML, knowing he killed the MC, all the while he dotes and falls head over heels for his cute kitty. You wonder about the faces ML has: an indifferent killer; a loving, doting partner; a dumbass who thinks cat food tastes alright. On the one hand, you feel like you're getting a cute, humorous, fluffy cat raising novel. Then on the other hand, the darker elements,... more>> mu*der and intrigue hover around.

It kinda reminds me of stories like (plot/end spoilers)

Reborn as a Hamster for 233 Days in that there's a fantasy element of an animal being able to change into human as these animal novels generally do. But also in terms of like a timeline shift, where it turns out most of the events of the story takes place prior to the killing event and body shift.

Also the plot twist was interesting, although since I has mlt the translation wasn't good enough so the impact was not great on me.

Once you completed the novel everything will "seems" to make sense.

Definitely an enjoyable read with interesting twists, I read it in one sitting. The MC is so cute, the ML in his younger days is very good too. Althought there’s many things unexplained and i’m kinda curious what effect the time paradox chaos will cause in the ‘future’

first, there is no explanation at all, is xiao hei a cat demon? Why his mother and sibling aren’t demons too? What is his ‘aphrodisiac fragrance’ came from his body, it conveniently just never show up again after that two times, is it some kind of blood line abilities?

it was mentioned that the MC is originally the cat who ‘somehow’ can transform, so because the MC transmigrated back to the past, he knew the phone number, which means in the original timeline he didn’t know, and it should take some longer time for xiao hei to get familiar with ML and transform.. the time paradox’s cause and effects is too tangled...

but it’s not much of a mess of time paradox’s cause and effect compared to the side stories.. it should bring huge changes to the story flow, especially for Rice, our MC would be really difficult to return home if he’s not meeting him.. so he transmigrated into the past as a human might cause xiao hei to unable to go home.. he might freeze in the winter, even.. then it would cause ML and MC in wen jin body to would never meet...

therefore i’m more inclined to xiao hei’s original theory of his transmigration.. they transmigrated in the parallel worlds, instead of the ‘real’ past

This novel was cute and full of fluff at the first half, with a sprinkle of mystery. At the latter half, it was fluff with a mix of drama and dog blood, then ended with a simple resolution.

It's a great story, however, it ends abruptly. I was actually expecting for a longer conclusion after they cleared up all the misunderstandings between them. Like a glimpse of their daily life after realizing how faith had played them.

As for the overall flow of the story, it was actually very interesting. With the... more>> time loop and stuff in play.

About the timeloop- past present future stuff, it might be a universe where MC and ML have yet to experience what they had experience in their own universe, or it might just be a past that the universe made MC to remember as the clock rotating backwards symbolizes. I'm actually more keen to believe that MC might have come back to the past to relieve the memories he forgot (as what the clock might have hinted on). Maybe it wasn't actually a universe, but a "memory" that was playing in his head while in coma to remember his forgotten past, and the changes he made didn't really change anything in reality.

Nonetheless, the overall conclusion was satisfying except for the abrupt ending and lack of extras showing the both them.

I can't fathom how there are people who actually exist just for the sake of torturing and killing helpless animals, and it's so disgusting that it brought twisted pleasure to them. It makes me sick.

Definitely has its dark points, definitely has the mind-f*ckery, but in the calm parts it was incredibly adorable and cute. The angst was terrible though. My heart hurts q+q

wait, wait... I like cats.

BUT THIS NOVEL.... AAHHH SO CUTE!!

CAT, OUR CAT XIAOHEI IS SO UWU!!!

Well, the truth is I haven't finished reading this novel yet. People say this novel has a dark element... that's true, even if you only read a few chapters, it's already a little dark. I mean, the cannon fodder in this novel is extreme, they vent their frustration on the cats? huh, even if they don't like cats, it shouldn't be to the point that they'll slowly torment... as if all the characters in this... more>> novel are a bit of a psychopath. ML even has dark tendencies. but hey, this is really funny.

looking forward to the translator update, I checked mtl instead.

The ending of the main story is too sudden for me.. it only explains the happy ending for MC and ML, but not for how life is after...

But!!! second CP relationship, hiks hiks.... I feel so melancholy, I cry a lot haaaa... my heart hurts for weixi, oh my god... I also read Su Weixi's POV, it's very dramatic and contains elements of tragedy, the ending of the weixi story is quite satisfying <<less
