I really can't recommend it personally. The romance in the novel left a bad taste in my mouth. You have a MC who falls in love with a man who essentially held her in captivity.

The world building left a ton of unanswered questions that I wish got answered. They never answered any questions about the history of the world, or the reason she was even transported the to other world.

It was kind of interesting at first, but took some major turns and ended poorly. FL starts out somewhat self sufficient, but then becomes rather dependent and helpless. I recommend paying attention to the warning, and staying away if you are sensitive.

Spoiler

This world completely sucks from a modern perspective, and I have no idea how she could survive. Her only effective weapon is a stun gun that must be turned onto max setting to even get a result, and she is extremely weak. The ML is good to her for his species but that is not saying much since they normally keep the women in shitty conditions and continuously r*pe them... there is a certain amount of cultural difference I can overlook, but basically the women are treated like crap, and yet described as powerful and independent. There’s some lack of logic here because women are a scarce asset in this world, so maybe they should be treated better...

[collapse]

some things never get explained, such as where her space comes from and how it upgrades.
Spoiler

Why was Ryan small to begin with? How did it get fixed? What happened to Pat after she returned?

The FL and ML are not a good match in personality, values, culture, or even physically. The last chapter just dumped a whole bunch of things together and made me even less happy with the way things turned out. I don’t think the author has a good grasp of descriptive words or fighting. There were several points that just seemed completely off, although I suppose I could also be a translation issue as well. <<less

This story is wack and okay, its a good book to pass time.

I thought I was reading some AU fanfic from someone that has a wildcat fetish. Weird shapeshifting humanoid animals to full-on animals.... overbearing possessive leopard x dumb damsel FL....

The ML Ryan is a leopard that comes from another culture and he isn't human so his personality is what it is.

There is painful cat tongue licking and painful intimate time.

The writing wasn't done the best and I wish the author elaborated on some details in the book.

Being a fan of a female protagonist, romance, and being sick of extremely long stories, I figured I would try this one out. Ater reading this story, it truly wasn't half bad. I liked the world building and the characters had good character settings, as well as fluid and natural forming relationships with the MC. The story arcs weren't half bad either but the romance, to me, could have been better. The fact that the MC held out hope is always a plus but sometimes can get repetitive in story... more>> lines so it didn't strike me as unusual or something to be impressed about. The MC seemed like the strong willed arcatype and stayed that way for most of the timeline to which I enjoyed. The ML was decent as well and I like a good possesive ML character type as much as the next person but at some points it didn't feel right to me. It wasn't a well rounded possessive but borderd on yandere obsession when our MC leaves for a period of time.

Spoiler

The ML trapped MC in a cave for days on end when she finally returns to that world and the ML didn't let her see sunlight until he was sure she wouldn't disappear, run away, or something to that effect. All the while having some consensual and and later one very dubcon s*x basically non stop.

[collapse]

Eventually the MC gets submissive when it comes to the ML (at least to me) and she losses a lot of the strengths that drew me to her. Other than some questionable NSFW scenes, the other interactions between the leading couple are nice and really understanding on the ML's part. Overall because of some of the borderline back-and-forth between the MC and ML, I ended up not really liking the ending of this as much as I thought I would. It is a good read though. <<less

Hmm how to say this... I appreciate the translation but I just didn't feel the smut ¯_ (ツ) _/¯ because of the translation lol guess that's why there are no tags for that in here.

Don't know why there is a r*pe tag in here, everything they did was was allowed by the other party...

All in all it was a fun read. I wish there are similar stories like this but all I see is yaoi tags *sigh

THIS novel is more of Beauty and the BEAST than my beastly husband. I love it?

Spoiler

People are being too harsh. What did you expect after seeing the tags? ?

Like I said, I LOVE it! It’s what I signed up for and it was worth it!

The female lead is relatable ish. She’s like Belle. Beautiful and smart. I like her.

The male lead, I am able to understand (after reading My Beastly Husband, Broken winged angel, and other novels where the guy is a BIT twisted), he’s actually not that cruel.? He’s sweet and how he fell in love with our MC was actually as realistic as it could be (considering the plot Has fantasy included). It was slow but sweet and it wasn’t boring nor torturing to read.

I REALLY RECOMMEND IT. But if you’re OA AF, then, please don’t. It’s a great light novel to read once in a while. Read the tags and read at risk. Don’t go complaining and rating this novel low because your s*upid ass didn’t read the tags or if you did and still didn’t like it then you have no life and is s*upid. ENJOYYY??

Not sure why this story is called gentle beast unless it's talking about Eric. The story started off ok, with world building and characters that has some personality, but then some point the entire plot was abandoned and felt like a cringe fanfic of the first half of the book. Also the romance was kind of disgusting, Ryan is a horrible person and not in the cool cold personality way. He continued to lie to her and treat her like tr*sh. Also the other women in the story are treated... more>> like tr*sh, and the FL just ignores it. This book left such a bad taste in my mouth lol. I don't really recommend it. <<less

I enjoyed the journey while I was reading but I couldn't objectively say that it was good.

Spoiler

the author forced a 'happy ending' where the FL returned to that dangerous world just because she suddenly realized during their separation that she loved him. This is despite them not matching in terms of personality or worldview when they were together. And poor parents who had to die early so that the FL would have no choice but to settle to that world because she had no ties left to her real world.

A wilderness survival novel in which animals can shapeshift into human form and the human race had gone extinct. The most notable trait is that the MC is one of the smartest and level-headed MCs I've ever come across. She's so creative when it comes to utilizing the "space" (it's a storage concept used in cultivation novels). Her personality is rather reserved though (it's understandable given the stressful situation of being stuck in a foreign world)

I also adored the interactions between the MC and the cub. The prideful little... more>> cub acting all high and mighty is just so cute! I only like the first 1/3 of the novel. (The first part is the MC's journey with the cub and Erik. Second part is the MC's stay in the ML's tribe and war with the wolves. Third part is the MC's decision and the reconciliation)

The middle section and third had some interesting pointers, but they were overall less interesting than the first part

Spoiler

What I liked about the middle section:

The stoic ML surprisingly demonstrates his sense of humor and attempts to adopt her ideals (like ending the practice of sharing females and courting the other instead).

What I disliked: The influx of boring characters like Suzanne made the 2nd part so bland. Sure, Suzanne is important because she is the only female character the MC gets to have close interactions with, but her conservative personality makes their interactions so boring to read through. Boring characters makes a story boring.

What I liked about the third section:

It was nice to see the MC finally resolving the relationship issues from the middle part by letting Ryan accompany her in her visits to her own world.

What I disliked: Ryan immediately locked her up upon their reunion. While this move was understandable given that the MC completely destroyed his trust, but it shows how the two failed in communication.
Overall, all the problems in their relationship is the result of the MC's inability to understand Ryan's feelings and assure him of his worries (while Ryan was always so attentive to hers).
[collapse]
Interesting characters besides the MC:
Spoiler

Eric is outgoing and brave, in contrast with the shy and reclusive nature of deers. He is the MC's only true friend and the most honest and straightforward characters she meets

Leopards are solitary creatures, yet Ryan yearns for love and companionship so much that he gets extremely possessive (aka yandere).

Holden (2nd ML) was one was of the few beastmen to recognize the value of the MCs skills. His history of using deceptive tactics makes me wonder if the MC could truly trust him to keep his promises. On the other hand, he did fulfil his promise to return to the shoreline in return for saving his ship from getting wreaked in the coral reef zone.
[collapse]

Also, the cultural differences between the MC and ML is not as problematic as reviewers are saying. And the issues between them had little to do with that.
Spoiler

1) The two of them had already spent a prolonged amount of time together which gave the ML time to slowly understand her

2) The two of them established strong communications and resolved much of their differences by making compromises. The ML tried to learn how to court her (even though the concept didn't exist in his world). He followed her demands to maintain good hygiene even though he had no concept of bacteria. (However, they did fail when it came to the topic of the MC returning home)

[collapse]

What truly caused the problems was the ML's emotional insecurities incited by the MC's determination to return home :

Spoiler

Offense: Ryan lied to her about Pat's death to destroy her goal of returning home

Although lying was the wrong thing to do, the ML was already breaking the norms by seeking and caring about her consent. The concept of consent doesn't exist in his world. Females were treated like commodities and expected to comply with the demands of their protectors/captors.

The real reason behind the ML's actions:

It's an emotional insecurity. He feared that the MC would disappear forever once she's returned to her world. His fear only skyrocketed when the MC wouldn't give a straightforward answer him after he inquired her about this.

The MC also failed because she couldn't understand the ML's emotions the way he understood hers.
What they could've done:

The MC could've told him that she's not sure of her feelings for him and isn't ready to make a decision about staying permanently.

The compromise she could've made is that she could visit occasionally (Ironically this is what they ended up doing once the MC earned back his trust, except it was reversed with the MC making occasional visits to her parents (similar to Inuyasha)

a decent read. 3 to 3.5 rating. I like how the story revolved around her trying to go back instead of accepting every thing as fate. Usually stubborn charcters are kinda annoying in novels but I don't hate it here. It is admirable not to lose hope and cling to your goal rather than completely surrendering especially when your goal is kinda reasonable. I think if I were her I might get discouraged early.

I don't know why but I kinda like Holden (maybe I imagined him handsome? :3) but... more>> the writer seemed keen on reducing him as MC's punching bag lol.

Maybe a spoiler

Spoiler

Something I didn't like is why ML is determined on making her abandone her family and whole world but he isn't ready to leave his tribe and life. I mean if you can't bear to live without her then go with her instead of trapping her in his world. After all he is the one who fell in love first.

[collapse]
And

Spoiler

Is there any need for her University degree ? She didn't even study the connection between the two world's (not mentioned). She also didn't try rising livestock (or just bringing animals to the forest and they reproduce and live on there own) that don't turn into humans. She didn't need to eat beastmen like ML to 'accept his lifestyle ' when she has other solutions. The ecosystem will be affected anyway after all herbivores learned farming and no longer depend on forest for living.

Though the story is good but the beginning seemed a bit lousy. Though the slice of life part and the interaction between the little beast n the human was good but there were certain major plot holes that made the story relatively boring. Also the story seemed way too fast paced n the ending was rushed.

Spoiler

Plot holes:

  • The romance between the MLs seemed rushed. Though Ryan is supposedly saved by the FL at certain occasions but it doesn't make sense for him to fall in love after being protected n treated by her at 3-4 occasions. Also Ryan has also saved her multiple times from danger n it doesn't seem like she appreciates his efforts much for she attacks him with a stun gun. If only she had previously explained to him her motives n tried to look at him in a better light (other than him being a beast man) then maybe she wouldn't hv had to part with him on such bad terms.
  • The Laurence character re-emergence was something unexpected since Ryan is infamous amongst the tribes for his killings. But still after losing his battle for once he retreats. He used inhuman means by taking the hand of the enemy tribe n proficiently kill Ryan n thus he shouldn't have had such a well-off ending.
  • Olympus seemed like a green-tea bit*h who wanted to push the FL w/ the bunch of prostit**es yet she didn't receive any punishment but was rather taken on a mission alongside the fellow female leopards to bring back more females to the tribe. She even got a husband. She should have at least gotten some kind of punishment just like Laurence should have been seen to exile.
  • Also the ending was completely rushed. When did she get pregnant, what happened during that period, how they dealt with a leopard kid, nothing was explained but rather all the scenes such as FL's parents death, her repeated travelling in between the 2 worlds, her giving birth to Greverdy all of these scenes were congested w/ the span of a few chapters.

I would rate it five out of five, because it's really better than most of novels I've read, if there wasn't this broken disfunctional sexuality issues, when woman is not allowed by author to have any s*xual desires, because UNPURE. It seems to ne kind of trend in Asia last years.
Still in comparison with other novels it's great. They usualy have same problems anyway.

First of all - translation is great and easy to read. Maybe there are someflaws that I misses as non-native speaker, but I did enjoy reading... more>> it anyways.
Second, it's a novel worth the discussion. It's not typical overlonged WN with endless meaningless chapters and countless support characters. It has like three arcs, solid beginning and ending, and the story flows smoothly. Also there are no "Royal Academy" and MC doesn't predict future - she's in another world, not in novel/past or erm otome game. And - yesss - no s*upid magical poisons and universal antidotes or healing blood of ML ew etc.
So it's a bit refreshing.

Author created a vivd hostile world and the feeling of danger is very natural. It doesn't brake it's own rules and I haven't second thoughts like "It's s*upid and illogical". Somehow I did belive in it. But Author didn't investigate the world: there is no explanation of drastical changes in climate or supernatural abilities of MC or reasons behind the MC transportation.

Main Characters are slightly OP. ML is just super strong tribe leader, that... well that may happen, right? As for FL - she's abusing the knowledge of modern era + has special "space" so she can get items she need out the thin air. Author did her (his?) best to make her adjust naturally, but it's still feels that FL knows like three times too much as for 16 years old schoolgirl.
But characters in the novel kind of vivid and natural. ML is a bit too caring for an actual beast, but still rough. He lies and tricks and they have a lot of misunderstanding because of different backgrounds.
FL is smart, but still makes mistakes and it's pretty normal.

Unfortunately the novel is still cliché and derivative. "Gentle beast" lovestory is a trope itself, and those "beastmen" are too. I actually enjoyed reading 2/3 of it: forest adventures, exploration, danger... thrilling! Then at the second ark the MC gets accustomed to the local traditions. I ought to mention that all the new characters appear logically. In some LN enemies, friends and relatives appear out of nowhere, just because the plot is lacking and author tries to heat it up. Also there is no magical breaking rules of the world and it's kind of strong side of the novel.
However, MC solved most of the issues by her handy magical space with stock of food and modern items. It looks a bit forced. And she invented the gunpowder as most of the transmigrators do. Boring.

But the real problem appears in the third arc, when we see the actual romance development:
1. That's actually "tender r*pe" s*xual fantasy. You know, when male is soo pushy and female is sooo timid. However this one isn't really harsh and ML is quite patient in context of his race and somehow waits for her "Yes". I personally don't mind this kind of fantasy: even if it's born from not-really-healthy enviroment, in my country we have saying that "Anyone can fap as the person wants". It's personal, okay, there is no shame in this.

2. At the same time I don't see, how it can be developed without pushing. And it's most bothering thing. It doesn't seem that any pace would be slow enough for the FL. Being healthy adult (16 and 19 - yes, young, but mature biologically) female in close contact with her beloved sexy beast (it's how is described) doesn't develop any thoughts. She just flees and avoids any contact, scared, shy etc.
I've also been a scared and shy virg*n, that's totally fine. It's also fine to be asexual, why not?
Somehow beasty ML manages to do something

right: he tries to make her feel comfortable and get used to him. It could be a real development you know? She may speak about her feelings, loosen a bit, explore her sexuality and they may grow together step by step, until she's ready and he knows how to be tender (ML tries actually if FL asks).
But no. Girl is allowed to be scared and fight for your v**ginity by all means or to accept man as spouse end "endure all the torture". Of couse enjoying the s*x is not an option, it's unpure.
That so distorted. And maybe it was fine if it was due to s*x with different kind, but it seems to be popular trope.

3. Actual relationship. FL and ML are really different, and it's hard to imagine how they will live together. They are differ in ways that really affect relationship. It would cause a lot of miscommunication.

Most of their conversations are about food, he wants s*x, she wants to run away and someone tells other about the world around. They not speak through their differences, only FL cries all over and ML magically understands.
Even the important chapters when ML visits her world are trown to garbage by "showing off cool boyfriend" and other tropes.
Relationship with her parents were shown seriously, but they were just discarded by author at the very end.
This story had potential to be deep, thrilling and thoughtfull, but no. It's just a LN. Good one. <<less

If you want a break away from the usual 'Reincarnated to get revenge' plot, then this novel is will definitely NOT disappoint you.

The story is unique, simple and refreshing. There's no major 'plotting against each other' or over the top smart MC or ML. Rather than that, the novel leans toward a more realistic MC reaction if they were thrown in a new world.

The romance department is a bit slow but you can appreciate how the ML's effort trying to woo his spouse (♥ω♥) ~♪

Be warned though that there are... more>> some missing sub-plots about how the animal transformed and the MC interdimensional space <<less

This is among the more "proper" novels among the plethora of web novels I've read. Like another reviewer states, the author doesn't try to humanize the ML who is a beastman though he does great adjustments in his lifestyle for the MC, he remains integrally a beastman. The MC has two cheats, one supernatural but is not a weapon, another is her advanced knowledge but she is not OP, in fact she's fragile and has emotional breakdowns but she is level headed and immediately gets back up, albeit a little... more>> masochistic? Or resolute? Up to you. Its commendable how the author doesn't go so far as to glorify how smart she is etc but even for a reg human I think its hinted and exemplified that she has great calculation abilities and she's on the track of being a legit scientist. The ML is OP but his beastman aspects balances out his OPness, later on he shows signs of an OP brain, mafia boss type.

Some "uncomfortable" aspects of the story were retained. Although not all animals have "evolved" (more like mass mutating or simply supernaturally transforming), the law of the jungle applies, however, the ML like other top predators feed on big game, mammals, who have humanoid forms so... conflicted, but the author really makes you "grudgingly" admit that he makes sense.

If anything, I wish this novel had "more" maybe details? World building? It has very good foundation for a sequel, if I say so myself, there so much potential for that, civil development in the world they are in, cross world action... And my rating is based mostly in the potential to expand and extend the novel

ps: to the readers who judged this and dropped it after 5 chapters, u dunno what ur missing and another, don't let the tags scare you <<less

Got this series in the to-read list for a while, but didn't have the courage to touch it cause of the frightening tags, at the same time, the rating is good and the summary is atractive, so there I was at a crossroad, but then I decided to swallow the doubt and read the first few chapters, if there were such depravities in it I'd be out!

But instead got myself hooked! Such a nice story..

Gooosh, when I saw those tags I didn't know what I'd be reading - the reviews... more>> are pretty good for the type of story these imply: Yandere male lead, possessive, stockolm symdrome, r*pe and pregnancy...

Spoiler

From what I've understood, Ryan is protective and possessive of Ji Xiao Ou because she - who he thought was an infatile herbivore - picked him up and nursed him to health when he was injured, and did it out of a good heart... In a world where its kill or be killed, being shown such selfless kindness, I can only guess at his wish to shelter it.

Along Ji Xiao Ou and Ryan's adventures, she's risked herself many times selflessly to protect him, so he thought to repay her - if it is to protect this reckless and weak little human, than its best to have her in the tribe where he's chief.. I don't even realise when he falls in love with her, but it is a mixture of her kindness, appereance (the most human like a beastman is, the more evolved they are) and pheromones...

Not a Beauty and the Beast in the slighest - because Ji Xiao Ou, despite being physically weak is very witty and resourceful.. When Ryan's strenght fails him, she helps him, when Ji Xiao Ou suffers from not having claws or teeth or fur, Ryan will be those things for her..

[collapse]

All in all, the tags are scary but are swallowed by the bigger picture? Jungle rules apply anyway.. <<less
