Imperial Galactic Army Officer Alan Corinth’s ship is seriously damaged after being ambushed by an unknown foe in hyperspace.

Even though it was through sheer coincidence, he became the sole survivor.

The stricken ship fell to the planet below.

Alan alone managed to get to an escape pod.

Alan the Imperial Army Officer wagers his survival in this savage world on the symbiotic nanomachines (nanom) in his body.

The world he landed on was home to a prosperous human civilization, which seemed to have a strangely similar genetic pedigree to himself.

In this puzzling fantasy world of swords and sorcery, Alan will live to the fullest alongside his comrades.

What will Alan achieve in this strange world?

A Science Fiction Fantasy in a Middle Ages setting starts here.

Having read everything translated so far, I love it.

Right away, this novel is NOT for everyone, it's a slow one still, it's relaxed, it's not about action or adventure and I'm certain many people will drop it if you just start it blindly.

As others have pointed out, an absolutely monstrous portion of this novel is cooking. Like I'm talking a book of recipes has less about cooking in it than this thing. You could just read a cook book cover to cover and you'd read less about food. Personally I... more>> didn't mind it too much because I'm a fan of cooking myself as a hobbiest chef, but it's like 30+ chapters of almost straight food talk. I don't have a clue why you would do that, but the author did it.

If you can live with 30 chapters of a cooking novel with bits of story mixed in, then I recommend it!

I personally love the detail the author has gone to in explaining the world and systems. He talks for a couple chapters about Magic Tools and goes super deep into the technicalities, going as far as relating it to actual electrical engineering and circuitry that's actually factually correct, talking about stuff like variable resistors. The magic system is explored from a very scientific standpoint, and is super detailed and logical too. Also, for all the stuff about cooking, it's pretty much all totally accurate, and detailed enough that aside from exact measurements you could follow the procedure and end up with something exactly as described...

The author is incredibly detail oriented and clearly has done his/her research and come up with a definite and clear plan. Nothing, so far, has felt like it was just kind of thrown in there, everything feels purposeful and intentional, which has led to there being absolutely no plotholes that I can think of so far. The writing is super solid, and the translation is absolutely phenomenal, one of the best I've ever read. The translator is even able to express the formal/casual speech that always messes Japanese to English translations up quite well, getting the kind of awkward vibe VS the casual and comfortable vibe, as well as different accents too. Truly fantastic work, and the editor has kept it super neat, tidy, and organized; it's an absolute pleasure to read visually, it surpasses many native English novels I've read, even.

All in all, it's a fantastic and totally worthwhile read, but it's certainly not for everyone with it's slow pace and obsession with food. I'd definitely give it a try though. <<less

This is a pretty solid read.

Most of the reviews are overly harsh about most of their criticisms because the reviewers don’t like it.

The big one they do get right is about the cooking. Yeah, I’m sorry but I really don’t care about pizza being introduced to an alien planet. It doesn’t really add anything.

That being so even one of the more favourable reviews went off on a rant about something that has an in story explanation. That being a lack of reaction to events at the beginning but if you... more>> read it properly the story explains his mind was tampered with. It also explains his lack of direction for the initial part of the story.

As to certain other complaints it feels to me as if finding those answers is meant to be part of the journey and they are unsatisfied because it wasn’t instantly explained. <<less

The translation is great. Because of that, I can read the story and dwell into the story. Kudos to the translator

The story premise is a human with advanced tech and A.I. Thrown into a world of sword and magic. I like how the story author try not to downsize the current civilization. It has its perks and charms.

I know some CN novel already with this theme. But, it was refreshing from a JP novel. The translation quality makes this story unique.

I'm sorry to tell this, but the heroine's country is in ruin by the rebels, and they talk about cuisine when heroines country in crisis? I know they need to wait for her knight at her cousin's kingdom whom support the rebels, and trying gather all information but, the intermezo about cooking is too much. I can grasp the whole picture how this novel end. The MC gain more knowledge about magic tools and magic then the knight gather to receive an order from the princess, then they start the... more>> journey to the nobels in her counrty who will support them, and to take the whole country the AI iris will found the MC, and use all the resource of the starship to support them take the country and finish the objective. I'm certainly sure that my guess at least 90 percent will hit it. <<less

As stated by others the premise is very promising and the translation quality being good. But the story could suddenly become all about (not) cooking etc.

Although I have interest in cooking, I'm still put off as:

    • There's no recipe or other actual cooking knowledge.
    • No story progression
    • The "cooking" is all about the pointless stuff like "xxxx looks just like yyyy that I know", "I almost forgot to make xxx", "xxx praised/finds it delicious" for a whole chapter or more.

What I was looking for: time filler.

What I found: a novel I am looking forward to seeing (hopefully) updated regularly. Currently rated 5/5.

Albreo, I understand your statement about mourning/emotions, but I offer a few rebuttals (newcomers beware spoilers).

Spoiler

1) Keep in mind that the MC was "brainwashed" before leaving the ship, who knows what all got scrambled around upstairs when that happened.

2) The relations of Alan and the crew were not well established, and since the majority were in cryo, it's hard to say just how many of the active crew at any time were "comrades in arms" vs "that guy who works in accounting. Y'know, what's-his-face" I'd wager none of them were like a "Bucky Barnes" to him given he didn't ask about any by name when he came to.

3) Assuming the setup is anything like the modern military, training would stress teamwork and camaraderie, but do not value the dead at the cost of your own survival. I would expect Alan's and Cleria's upbringings both stress survival over emotions and provide training accordingly. (I.e. You can mourn the dead when you are safe). Those tears Alan shed were short lived as he transitioned into survival mode because he thought he was safe and then suddenly "oh crap, something is wrong with the escape pod". He's working in survival mode from that point on for several chapters. While his exploratory attitude might be seen as lackadaisical in some situations, he is expanding his essential knowledge foundation of the planet and it's unique situations. (Magicles)

4) While not specifically mentioned so far, Cleria in all likelihood did mourn further while Alan was out hunting as there was likely little to do while she was recovering and her mind would naturally wander to current memories and not just the wonder that is "Lord Corinth", (though he has become an emotional anchor and is probably also what is keeping her from sinking into utter despair from her current situation).

5) Just because Alan is not mentioned currently mourning his crewmates doesn't mean PTSD will not hit him like senpai truck-kun later. (Then again, that's assuming the brainwashing/Nanom don't somehow "fix it".)

For now I give it a 5 because the plot is unique although it's isekai I kinda like the sci-fi vibes from the MC's side. Yes the story is slow but the plot is solid and needs to be slow paced to explain everything in detail wich is kinda good. What's more the misunderstanding genre is my favorite so if you're not a fan of that genre this is not for you. I know there's a lot of misunderstanding because of the language barrier of both sides at first (Keep... more>> that in your mind) the MC will get used to it.
Spoiler

when he gets in the town where he can learn more about the heroins world

[collapse]
the misunderstandings will soon clear up geeez guys have a patient. Furthermore I like the character design which is kinda like ledo (from suisei no gargantia) and the illustrations are good. Give it a shot it's worth it and its free ?. <<less

The execution of this novel is totally rubbish thought the plot seems decent enough. This is more of a slice of life fps point of view novel where MC keep thinking in his head "I will do this and do that" and he really did those. At the time, there are two point of view of MC and heroine constantly keep a misunderstanding banter ongoing, a typical japanese trope.

Next, is an example of how characters totally lack of any emotion to past and present. An entire ship just blowed up,... more>> your entire platoon just got wiped out, all of your friends for two years turned into meat paste then our MC shed a manly tears for just one sentence and that is. The same goes for the heroine. Your grief is truly short, I said.

When you watched Clannad, you grieved for 7 days straight. That is how it should be. The translation quality is great. No complain here. <<less

The story is great. The world building is well done. The main cast are all well written, though most of the supporting cast tend to get left to the backburner. Overall well above average, solid B.

Also, is the author dead or something? It's been years since he's updated anything.

The first 20ish chapter were fine.

At some point story development slowed down insanely in favor of Food/Ccoking descriptions... What kind of SviVi/Fantasy story even is this...

Furhermore, the author is terrible at world building and having the story Stick to its premises (an intergalacric Soldier landing on an underdeveloped fantasy world) EVEN if you try to indulge in the Cooking story this in fact is... All the foodis smothered in mayonnaise and/or frihed food is seen as the peak of culinary Arts... Even considering the MC is supposed to have the... more>> entire Earth cooking techniques stores in an AI assist in his brain, everything at the peak of Culinary Arts is just "muhh nihon umami, soy sauce, Rice food is best"... The author should try and go explore the world for f*ck sake.

Terrible. <<less

Great story that is well worth reading. Keep in mind the story tags for this include cooking and kingdom building. If you don't enjoy those types of stories then this is definitely not for you. Negative reviews because your too lazy to read story tags is just plain silly. That said the pacing could be a little better and there are plenty of minor issues, but overall it's a good story that is well translated.

So this one flip flops between 5 star and 1 star chapters. im rating it 4 stars because the 1 star (boring stuff, mostly cooking) bits are usually self contained, so all you have to do is skip those bits to get a 5 star story. It's easy to do. If the first thing mentioned in a part is food, scroll to the bottom. 90% of the time it will still be talking about food, in which case you can just skip over the entire chapter. if its not talking... more>> about food, scroll up. usually the food stuff takes up 100% or 50% of the part your reading, so it's easy to find the spot where the story gets interesting again.

Sadly once your caught up on content your probably going to want to let this novel sit fo half or a whole year before picking it up again, just so that you will have enough content worth reading when you do.... damn there has been a lot of boring food content.... oh and some of the magic device creation content, you probably want to skip/skim those bits too.

Honestly I wish the translator would just skip bothering to translate the food bits, they have been doing a good job and it seems like such a waste for them to be tied up translating 1500 words that simply amount to; 'Made some food, everyone loved it.' <<less

Great premise like everyone says it could use a little work on the storyline but it has so much potential. It does do some weird switch to kingdom building and the magic system should be improved but I hope the author was able to fix it. I personally love the idea of taking someone from a sci fi setting and placing them in a fantasy one.

I need more. I have no qualms with this novel. Development is strong my only wish is that it didn’t stall on a personal level for the characters, but! That does not mean the story did not progress at a great pace. I wasn’t prepared for the slow slice of life cooking segments and I will say I skipped quite a bit. Also some characters which seem to hold a spot of importance really kinda fade, but! Not all in the least bit. For the most part parts of the... more>> family do make a come back and hold strong positions. Even those of small importance still stay connected and to be honest I’m pretty sure if it continued then within the next 25-50 chapters I think all characters with deep relation would be reunited completely. I like this novel a lot, I really expected to be disappointed because although it is a fantasy (space) it does transfer to the isekai fantasy (under developed European style). The dialogue and translation is superb. The plot is great and it revolves around the original characters and progresses. And true to the tag the MC does tend to be dense and romance is only surrounding the “heroines” you honestly can’t tell where it’s going to go at this point. I’m sad to see it’s almost been a year since the last chapter and very much would love to continue. <<less

Overall I like it, tho the story progress too damn slow. The cooking parts took too much chapter, and honestly unnecessary. I wish he used more of the hi tech support during battle. Even the sword he obtain were pretty much useless, since the battle always end up with a shot from flame arrow.

Pros: the world building is relatively solid! I particularly enjoyed how the author tied Earthern culture and wove a good backstory of how the protag landed on a Sword and Magic planet. The protagonist's planetfall was very captivating, and made for a great catch at the start.

Pros: it's translated solidly!

Cons: The author is waaaaay too lengthy with its cooking section. We get it, he can f*cking cook. There's nothing particularly interesting about the stuff he's cooking. It contributes little to world building, narrative arcs, or personal arcs. I just glide... more>> over the cooking when it happens, but I can imagine as I'm caught up that the cooking mini-arcs are gonna be a waste of the translator's time. I hope in the LN the amount of cooking is decreased, or relegated to side-stories. <<less

I can't take it anymore, dropped. Taking the very interesting concept this novel had with a very promising beginning and completely turning it into the most boring webnovel I've ever read with chapters after chapters after chapters about cooking and food, cooking and food and cooking and food. On a boring scale of 1 to 10 000 I would rate this 10 000. This is the first review I've ever written on this site and I have hundreds of novels in my reading list and I've dropped a whole lot... more>> as well. That should paint a colorful picture about how absolutely boring this is, I even got bored writing this.

If you came here hoping for more of the manga, you should probably turn around now.

This novel's starting premise is an oasis in the desert of reincarnation isekai novels. Unfortunately, as others have said, the setup is ultimately wasted because this devolves into 60 - 80% cooking and other production tasks. I'm going to hold out for the manga and hope the staff have the sense to cut that 60 - 80% and only keep the sliver of interesting developments.

Maybe if the author course corrects there's still hope for the... more>> adventure, magic-meets-scifi, shipwreck novel I thought I was getting into. After 49 chapters though, I'm not willing to wait around and see. <<less

Every unimportant issue gets beaten to death. From an advanced civilization with a ongoing war glossed over, gaining new mysterious magic, glossed over, but bringing over Japanese cooking and finding a way to pay the donkey driver need entire arcs to resolve. It occasionally has some interesting things happen but only to be followed by chapter after chapter of boredom.

Well, it's not bad. It's also not great either. The initial premise was good along with the first 10 chapters or so, but then the rest of the chapters are of him traveling to a city and staying there to do some production related tasks, like cooking and making tools. An absolute bore of 30+ chapters teaching you how to make various Japanese dishes, how great they are, and trying to explain a little bit of the magic system of the world and the process for making magic tools. Like... more>> what gave the author the idea that readers wanted to know how to make fried foods? Plus the author managed to make up some ridiculous reason for why Earth is determining all the trends of the Galactic Empire, to the point where everyone wants to try Earth food (read: Japanese food). As of now he has set a concrete goal, but that seems a little unrealistic unless a miracle occurs.

Tl;dr: It was a dry read with long info dumps and a strange obsession with explaining how to make food and tools. The author did a good job of explaining the advanced technology of the Empire though. MC finally has a goal.

Edit: Still at c47. Apparently there will be no more food-related chapters after where I'm at, and the author will start focusing on the actual adventuring stuff. <<less
