Welcome to Freia. A continent perpetually torn by war. Hundreds of years ago it was ruled by Magi, people capable of magic who viewed themselves as superior to those who could not. For thousands of years they ruled over common people… but times change.

Magic is a finite resource, and with its steady depletion, the magi grew weak. Eventually they were overthrown in a great war that saw them made all but extinct. Magic fell with them, becoming taboo in every way, the object of villainy in the novels of romance and heroism.

War is a human condition, however, and it has continued to wage unerringly between the successor kingdoms and empires as the common man fights to become master of the world left behind by the magi.

Magic has gone, but power remains, now wielded in the form of firearms and manpower. Muskets echo on the fields and cannons thunder on the ocean, even more so now that the greatest kingdoms on the continent have pushed out to colonise the far-away land known as Nubissia.

Born into this world of chaos is a young man, reincarnated from a salaryman in 21st century China. Lacking the prejudice against magic, and possessing a hobbyist’s knowledge of firearms and tactics, our young protagonist forges his path in a world where magic and musket war.

I am still piss at the author about the discontinue of the previous novel. It has pretty much everything like Tales of the reincarnated Lord, only this time there is more fire arms. If you like his previous novel, you might like this one. Is similar. Nobles, swords, war and all that medieval stuff. Only this time author tend to focus more on MC family which is more boring to me. I am kinda bored reading the author same take on things like his previous novel. Why does it always... more>> has to be person being teleported from a different world and the body he was possessing was a jerk and he suddenly decided to life a good life there? It has zero point in doing that. Because why just him and just like his previous novel him getting transported was just something that happen and will never be explain again. The setting just turn me off when I read it. Then the next couple of chapter was pretty much history lesson and focusing on his family.

Unlike TotRL, this MC in this novel is more unlikable because he still has that childish personality. In TotRL the MC started off as a adult and his ways of doing stuff is more mature.I guess most can give it a try, it's not that bad. <<less

Hey

The description is misleading, so don't be expecting any focus on magic.

The start is a slow slice of life of the MC and his friends but once he leaves Whitestag it picks up.

Spoiler

The military part is quite in depth and really sticks with the type of combat in the colonial era (standing in lines shooting at each other)

[collapse]

The MC doesn't focus on becoming an incel magi and instead becomes a Chad military captain.

The war and battles are nice as well.

Oh yeah magi are weak, they suck against muskets.

Yeah so it's a good read if your into colonial type stuff with nobles and such. <<less

If you like substance in your stories you've come to the right place. Don't get me wrong, I sometimes like the stories about people reincarnating with various systems or whatever but those are more like snacks while webnovels like this one are a full meal.

Too bad there's so little released right now. Author is great, read his other stuff while you're at it.

It's a difficult read.

Not a good difficult read either. It's simply very overwhelming because of the filler and repetition due to a lack of editing. Some things are repeated multiple times, sometimes even only a few paragraphs apart. And the worst of it all - the locations, numbers, names, and the damned dates. I don't want to memorize the every-god-damn inconsequential thing the author hadn't deigned to edit out of this somewhat polished draft he had written up.

But I understand the author's difficulties though. I liked the previous work (Reincarnated... more>> Lord) better, and I hoped for him to improve upon his past experiences, yet all I could see was a half-assed attempt at a kingdom building/militaristic novel.

Sure, I can admit - the military aspect was interesting at times - yet only when I wasn't feeling overwhelmed (skimming helped a lot).

The politics were the only saving grace in this work which kept me intrigued, along with some familial drama I won't discuss how to avoid spoiling anyone. It brought satisfaction and want to read further, even as I started feeling frustrated with the fillers and ramblings of an author too indulged in worldbuilding, fantasies, and character sheets of the non-descript kind.

The author has most likely been censored once more, and we most likely won't get to finish the tale of Claude either, as had happened with Lorist in the previous work - which disappoints me. Something about the word structure and the flow of the story has kept me interested in both of his work. Yet here - he truly dropped the ball.

Read it if you wish. The start is a bit slower, and I found myself dropping the novel at the start multiple times, yet I continued as I wanted to give it a chance. And after Claude finally moved towards the militaristic career and we got to see his feats of valor and moments of conquests in this new world - I started enjoying it. But soon it got repetitive and everything seemed to not matter, as there were no proper rivals or antagonists worth mentioning, nor were there any friendships or relationships explored in greater depth beneath introductions - I eventually started to skim read and read it in that way until the end as of now (c592), and I only feel somewhat bitter at how the work had been underperforming in terms of building relationships, personal connections and overall, failing at the attempt to draw the reader into the story.

3 Stars anyway. It would have been 2 but the author has a history of reoccurring physical ailments and hospitalizations. Add on top of that a history of oppression in ways of censorship - one could very well imagine how he might have not been in the optimal state to write the work. <<less

This series is like 4 types of novel in one go. Translation is really good! Daily chapter release around noon ET, even on weekends. Good site wo annoying ads or any nasty stuff.

This should be one of the great finds, started fantastic, but it's a 3 at best now.

  1. slow life part: MC is young middle school kid: slow life, friends, beautiful work building. For 100 or so chapters MC doesn't even leave his hometown. Great character building, a hint of magic and mystery.
This part was the most fun part in this novel! The 5 stars part.
  2. isekai hoodlum part: MC gets to taste magic, goes on a power trip and tastes blood. Got to kill or rob whoever he wants, with some dodgy moral logic.
Mehhh... the 2 stars part, no logic, no character building, some adventures for the action scenes.
  3. Army time! Bootcamp, new tactics, battles and adventures with some magical side stories.
Gruesome scenes, with refreshing side stories. OP tactics time. 4 stars!
  4. Colonial wars, shattering kingdoms. MC is OP, but it's not personal power, but military and political.
A chapter can cover a week or half a year worth of time. Dialog is 2-3 sentences. More like a history, with inner monologue. Magic is only used for manufacturing guns
The 2-3 stars part, slipping in a downwards spiral.
    [collapse]
Last 100+ chapters MC hasn't grown much. Magic almost vanished from the story, a sentence or two in 10 chapters.

He already knows how and what to do, (move spells up to higher circles) but don't care anymore.
While at the beginning motivation was clearly defined, it does not exist these later chapters.

Spoiler

MC became a military top general, who can brake and does brake the top empire for the loot.

What made me write this review:

Spoiler

The missed drama. Chapter 576 & 577 His own mother sues him to shake money out of the MC for an astronomically huge sum. MC is boiling, this is the time for some sweat drama!
But he only sends his representative and pays, shocking not only his enemies, but the readers as well.
It is also clear for the MC someone is instigating her (spoiled in her old age) mother, but meh... don't care.
Than stirs up his own kingdom making an enemy from his own king.

[collapse]

Magic and world was built up beautifully in the beginning, not so much later on.
Passing remarks of war crimes and hundred thousands dead in every 10th-20th chapters.

So I keep reading, who knows, maybe there is a 5th type of novel hiding after this arc is finished.

Spoiler

Maybe his enemies will uncover MC is secretly a mage and all his personal material gains are gone in a second. Maybe we get an elderly mage covenant story (MC, his nature mage lover, his alchemist sister and battle mage younger brother).

Once he joins the Army the entire novel is pretty much just one cycle of 'get f*cked by the Royal family', 'win a war', 'long narrative about some random sh*t that wont matter in 15 chapters', and 'repeat'. Also, there is almost absolutely nothing to deal with magic that the MC strived so hard for in the first half of the novel besides a chapter or two. Seems like the author decided he wanted to drop the magic fantasy aspect of the novel and go for steampunk/civil war style story... more>> instead. <<less

The story is slow, and most slice of life with mundane life of MC.

Whenever the plot moves though it's always somewhat extremely continent or extremely out of place.

MC's whole magic journey is one lucky encounter after another. Worse of all however, even after learning magic it's not like he really has any use for it anyway. Other than randomly killing some people on the street at some point which was completely out of character for him. Why it happened though... I don't know. Maybe the author was simply too tired... more>> of writing non-action for over 100 chapters so he simply wanted to went and sent MC to slaughter guys just because they stood in his way on the street. (he really had nothing to do with them) The other time, MC went to look for his brother and accidentally went on another rampage killing 30-ish people who had nothing to do with eh situation.

In any case, the story is not all bad and the slice of life portion is good but there are really strange or convenient things happening out of nowhere. To begin with though, if someone is looking for isekai story with MC going around the magical world doing the usual thing, then this is definitely not the story for them. <<less

  1. So far as 300 chps in this novel I can say that while author writes his novel wholeheartedly (seen by how much detailed world is, I still can't take the way where ALL people who are one bad terms with MC are designed the way you will hate them from the bottom of your heart, and while you don't realize it at first just to discover almost every person is as*hole
    Spoiler

beginning from military commandment at first, following both 1 and 2 prince then all nobles in army an so on

    [collapse]
Sigh, my advise is, if you don't enjoy MC being thrustrated every 15-30 chaps. (Like he just come out of one sh*t just to get in another same with wars), then avoid this novel.

While there is magic in the world and MC can use it, he also can't use it because it's prohibited and he is almost always in situations when he will easily get caught if he uses magic. So the beginning of novel where he is still in his town is sadly most magic active period of MC at least till 300ch and from names of next 200 chapters I really suspect it will change
  2. So summarily it's novel about transmigirator who can use magic but also can't, who always gets somebody to put stick in his plans and MC has to overcome it all by relying on the fact that his enemy are dotards.

So, the author is the same as in Tales of Reincarnated Lord which I've read like 2-3 years ago and enjoyed until MC started raping and bedding every woman he came in contact with.

This is in my opinion the main flaw for both novels, especially since the MC is literally copy-pasta. Basically, a womanizer who gives in every lust at some point of time and beds every female character who is introduced.

Oh, a woman recognizes him to be a magus?

... more>> Another woman staying alone in some forest?

Yet another woman caught by soldiers for smuggling guns?

Yet yet another beautiful woman in the family that provided accommodation?

Can't they be men for once? Or a woman that is somewhat decent and will not let him bed her?

So much coincidence and luck!

Every arc must have some women for MC to f*ck.

I'd rather prefer him to go for prostit**es like his soldiers instead of saying how he doesn't feel any love or doesn't plan to make any love and then next chapter he does the opposite and exploits girls along the way to have some good time but he hurts some only to feel guilty later on as they develop true feelings for him. Another SCUMBAG MC, preying on innocent and weak!!

I'm surprised he hasn't bedded baroness Maria; the moment she was introduced in the plot, I was almost sure that soon she will be in his bed. But I guess she won't due to her important role in the plot and her husband's being alive. He didn't make move on his sister yet, thankfully, and hopefully he won't (he said he detests in*est so maybe he'll live to his words).

Sigh. This novel is still solid and able to surprass the previous one, but after 140 chapters it seems that the author enjoys writing about the same thing over and over: MCs just can't stay faithful, numb to s*x, or sincere enough. MC would still rather deflower some virg*n in some remote village and make her glued to him instead of paying some money at proper brothels. He's flithy rich, but a cheapskate! All he wants is to steal some pure hearts of maidens! I also suppose magi's other world will only serve as a background to the story much to my disappointment but it also doesn't come as surprise to me, since these authors write war/kingdom building stories. It's pretty clear from the fact how rare magi fights are or mentions of MC training magic are. It lets people hook up at initial chapters, but they never will get what they want which is a proper magic or plane exploration.

But still, this novel deserves 5* for realistic character growth. I can ignore the greedy nobles and people in power.

Spoiler

Now, however, he was the submissive one. Doris had taken complete control. She decided when, where, and how they hopped. The two barely spoke two words when they weren't naked and sweating. In front of others she completely ignored him, even glancing at him coldly. Once the clothes went, however, she was a succubus, a mistress, at times even a dominatrix.

He had not let their escapades go to waste, however. He had pushed the succubus to reveal more about her past and why Zasrak was so cautious about her being around males. He learnt that, while she was the old bastard's son's wife, she could not go with him to the capital because she was a fugitive. She had eloped with him from her previous husband, a butcher in the capital, which was a crime. If she returned, she would be imprisoned.

He would not be happy if he were to return to Kefnie and learn some other f*cker had been plumbing her depths in his absence.

Thankfully, he gets karma for his hypocrisy when his family household falls apart.

I love this story but If you read to chapter 510 then you would find out that every person and I MEAN EVERY PERSON, that doesn't have a good relation with the MC, are downright imbeciles. This can definitely be seen by how corrupt all nobles are, even the good ones. And most assuredly are the military themselves. They always overestimate themselves and underestimate their enemies by a whole lot.... more>>
Spoiler

The Auran military almost always give false military information. Are even worse than bandits with no discipline at all. Care more about how the nobles think then about finding ways to minimize their own casualties. Except the colonies since they are personally disciplined and given more tactics and technology.

[collapse]
I homestly think that the author wants to frick the MC sideways by how idiotic and downright s*upidly dangerous his superiors are. In the novel the biggest enemies are not the other nations but the country of the MC. I just hope that in future chapters that he would just give up and just kill all undeserving nobles and hole himself up in the colonies where he practically has unquestioned military, economic and political power. <<less

Amazing.

Are you tired of suffering from teenager mcs?

Are you done with illogical harems pushing you to insanity ?

... more>> Have you had enough of sighting in agony for even when the plot is intriguing, the MC is proven time again to be the only logical person in the setting ?

What about insane power gaps that protagonists jump over while others strive with for millennia only to stagnate ?

Yes my fellow reader this is a novel where none of this happens. Be warned though : this is also a reason for slow development.

This is true character development. The story starts slow and describes in detail the life of it's MC, his encounters, his thoughts and also the world around him. This may disgruntle people used to the epic power plays other MCs do very quickly in other novels. The author and the story in this one is always telling you "Yes the MC is special but not really that special ".

With excellent world building, slow but steady character & power growth, believable and realistic people acting with logic and intent, BIG stands out from standard novels in a way a painter stands out by using a canvas and slowly filling it, from graffiti "artists" spraying a picture on a wall.

This is too slow for many people. We get to see the MC grow from his teens, no lvl jumping, no hot blooded action in his high school. In many ways this reads out like the biography of a transmigrator. He is influenced and eventually lives just like other people in the setting - he adapts to the existing morals and way of thinking, often provoking the "modern" "morals" you ve grown used to. His ideas from living in our world still make him stand out but he is but a man still.

Recommended for anyone interested in a realistic novel, an army war story, steady character development and above all (in latest chapters) for the most excellent kingdom building it has.

The only downside ?Once you caught up, chapters seem far too short for your needs. On the other hand the only thing even close to world-padding is the world building so you always have some progress to see. Oh and keep in mind that the author's other novel got axed down by Chinese censorship - so he often takes the time to exalt the "oh so grorious Crimson Ancestor (chairman Mao-this is what he decided to be called, I kid you not) and his beroved goverment".

Play some 1800s music as you read. See you around. <<less

The plot is quite good with attention to detail. Also, there is no system as to speak of and the protagonist does all the things by himself, at least now. Overall the novel is quite good and enjoyable for me. Also novel remains practical throughout with none of those shitty meaningless killing and debauchery. TO sum it up, you should all at least give it a try before deciding to continue or dropping it.

I always wondered why this novel has a below 4 star rating. As I usually avoid reading anything below 4 stars, I am happy that I gave this a chance.

I enjoyed the combat scenes, the MC seemed smart enough and was semi relatable. The world building was on point and the family scenes were filled with emotion.

Though there were some negatives. Some people disliked the MC due to his violent tendencies and lack of remorse which is understandable. I didn't really mind overlooking it.

Though there is one thing that really... more>> turned me off. I don't know if it was intended or not but it seems like his character is slowly deteriorating usually in stories it's suppose to be the opposite. Chapter 233 really pissed me off. It felt really off his character or at least what he was portraying.

Has a lot of potential and was able to fulfill some expectations. <<less

Can't believe this novel only has an overall rating of 3.9. It's amazing.

The realism, the characters, the slow development into an epic fantasy plot, it's all there.

Not only is the original good, the translation is also top quality.

It does indeed have a ponderous writing style, and the author takes his time to go over the daily life and details of life in a fishing village in medieval fantasy place.

It really picks up, however, after around chapter 90, when the MC meets the alchemist noble lady.

Black Iron's Glory tells the story of our young MC Claude who is a tranmigrator who came over from earth and now lives in the the continent of freia which used to be ruled by evil Magi (Wizards) until firearms came along and freed them from their rule.

The starting few chapter are quite hard to read through as they give you the backdrop of the MC family situation and also some history of the place where Claude lives. The story is slow at times which I think some may dislike... more>> and the Author tends to concentrate on Claude's family quite alot (May change in future ¯\_ (ツ) _/¯).

I have read all 592 chapters and this is what I think.

The premise of the story magic being beaten by gunpowder well executed and gripping.

The author has a good understanding of politics, technology, corruption, governing and war.

... more>> The story is free form degenerate stuff like: woke stuff, gay stuff, pedofilia, LGBQP+, feminism and long detailed s*x scenes.

All the main character relationships are within reason.

What I hate the most in most stories with harem tag is the totally unrealistic women that don't get jealous, love the main character unconditionally, live happily in the same house and don't fight for resources. This is not one of those stories.

The main character has a wife and some lowers hidden from the wife sometimes.

The main character morality is totally inconsistent, villan in one chapter self sacrificing hero in the next.

A character might have inconsistent morality but the author should give some explanations for it.

It feels like the author changes the main characters morality for polt reasons or trying out different morality to find what appeals to the reader basse.

What I like the most about this story is that the power/influence growth of the main character is slow compared to other stories on this side and the main character suffer some setbacks.

This story reminds me of Destiny's Crucible by OLAN THORENSEN <<less

Well it was boring so boring that I should have skimmed past it all. Nothing happens MC goes hunting and has some shitty interactions with characters as improtant as dirt. This story is for you if you like realism in terms of technological development.

This story is not for you if you saw the cover of the novel and thought there was going to be actual magic.

Magic is almost nonexistent in this story and what's even worse is that the MC supposedly had a talent with magic and later the author changes that to be below average. You can totally forget about magic after the beginning chapters.

I was so delirious that I thought the author would send the MC back in... more>> time after reincarnation since the author rarely talks about magic. I thought there would be a part two of this story that the MC totally focuses on magic.

Nope, the MC is now almost an old man and still a novice with magic.

All in all

If you want an adventure/magic/worldbuilding, this is not for you.

It's a great novel depicting great wars and politics. Author tries and succeed at capturing the faults of old battle styles, weaponry, and internal politics on the small and large picture as the MC rises up in the world, and his rise while rapid is grounded in reality and great foresight. The novel is very realistic yet exciting and glad I spent the time to read this masterpiece. Still there are faults like all novels have. The magic part of the story is very underused after MC leaves to join... more>> the army. Almost nonexistent, only appearing when MC meets other mages. It's a shame as the author showed that MC had a special talent for magic and rose rapidly without resources, but author later makes it that yeah MC has talent but below others. And MC uses excuses to say MC has no time to meditate despite his special body made him more rested than normal sleep and could need little to none at all. Even with the army and little self time to train MC should still be leagues ahead of his family. The while magic thing could almost be written out later on and non effect the story for rare exceptions.

Still, overall it's a 5/5 for the world building, military conflicts, politics with higher ups and nobel/royalty, and a MC who's over all a good guy... excluding his faithfulness and parenting ability.

Lastly some reviews just outright lie. Like there is no NTR. Dude has three girls and all are faithful to him. He's a filthy cheater, but no they don't cheat on him. There was a forth girl, but she was in loveless fake marriage. So 4 in total and pretty spread out so reviews saying he sleeps with new girls each arc are lying. <<less

Ugh, I really miss the first novel which got canceled for this. The MC is a wargod, smart and cunning but gets bend over every 30 chapters. Whats up with this s*upid Kingdom, the king was told to be a civil genius and fair in managing but everyone there screws everyone as much as possible for benefits. Seriously, if our MC would have swapped camps to a different kingdom he would be already king and unified the whole world 10 years later. Only skimming chapters since 200 or so, its... more>> always the same happening. MC beats the enemy with some cunning strategy or modern invention while having stones thrown in his way by the capital.
