Life, Once Again!

Description

Sometimes, as we go about with our lives, we all happen to think of one specific thought at least once.

What if… I could go back to “that” time?

The funny thing is, the moment you think such a thought is the precise moment when you came back to the past, from the future.

“One more time.”

Life, once again.

So I liked to read this novel every day. I really loved it and gave it 5 stars too beckause I thoght the rating was low.

Now I think the first part of the novel still deserves 5 stars. But at chapter 406 I feel that its gone bit too dark. So I ended up reading spoilers. Now after reading what will the novel end be I understand why some want to give 1 star here.

So warning the novel will be darker in mid story and if you you like nice... more>> endings to novels then you may be rethink about reading this (the issue is not abot happy or sad ending but how the end is set up). There are some comments with ending spoilers here. I dont know if its good to read those spoilers as I am thinking of droping the novel now. Just want to rant about it :' (

Still up to about 400 chapters its good novel... <<less

The main character is a tad too Gary Stu, but I love the way the author uses him to causes small changes in the lives of the supporting characters and by doing so creates wonderfully developed character interactions. I would say that this story is a solid 4.5 stars for me. If the main character wasn't such an obvious Gary Stu, it would have been a 5 star.

I say this story deserves its praise as this novel is unlike those isekai, transmigrated characters with memories of the future. Though I say this as I feel that reading this novel aligns with how all of us, generally, should look at life to how the world is presently. The story really gives a kind of impact in which the author tries to show through each different characters (aside from the main character) on how they should grow as a person from being that of a teenager and kinds of... more>> matters that adults face. You can really feel the development in the process of those characters.

*edit: felt like I should put this spoiler here if anyone wants to get an in depth know/feel of the story*
Spoiler

Sure, the main character was given a second chance in life and instilling in his teenage body of his 45 year old soul--but have you ever really thought, without the help of knowing the future, you hold a certain fear of the unknown for the future? The main character symbolizes exactly this feeling despite being given an ability and experiences of when he was 45 years old.

[collapse]

The story itself is interesting enough to have me keep reading this despite thoughts of worries that might as well seem to hold small meaning. Nevertheless, give this story a try; at least, getting the feel of how the flow of the story goes. <<less

Great story-building and character development. Extremely realistic. If you're looking for an adrenaline rush, this is not for you because its purely 'Slice of Life' genre. Please give it a shot! TOTALLY worth it, and hey since they already have that many chapters anyway. Can't wait for more chapters though *sigh*

At this point in the chapter, all I can say is, this novel is really damn good if you enjoy slice of life, slow pace story, and a tiny bitsy of romance.

Spoiler

The MC is really torned because of his last life where he became a bus driver and... well, he is very greedy for money because of it. He wants some guarantee instead of excitement of being a Teenager. The mind wants to gurantee his future family's well being, but the body wants some excitement. It's just so relatable if you guys live in a not so well off family. Plus he has been a father before, so it adds more to the greediness of money. But later in the chapter, he changed a little bit. It was 100% maturity and 0% immaturity, but now, he stepped into the unknown. He is an actor now, but his last life, he's just a road manager, and a bus driver aswell.

[collapse]

Read it if you want a little bit of disturbing story because of how the author depict of the industry is too damn real.

This is not an action type novel, it really differs from the usual returning memories kind of novel. Sure he chased something, but it is very different.

WARNING! You will not always be satisfied, just like in your life, there has to be ups and downs. But even in downs, you will find some satisfaction. <<less

It's good, it's really f*cking good.

There isn't much I can say you haven't already seen from the other 5 star reviews...

So instead I'll talk about me, I finished the 275 chapters in 3 days with about 10~ hours of reading per day. Times where I was grinning like an idiot, thinking over sentences and exploring more about acting online inbetween. I can only complain that 1/4 of the total material is translated (may have to learn Korean). Every single chapter about his wife is gold and you'll be smiling and... more>> laughing like an idiot (so don't read at work). <<less

I enjoy this. The characters are very well fleshed out, character growth is relatively realistic, and the tone of the story remains consistent throughout. Top it off with a consistently quality translation, and you have a pretty good read.

Since problems: it is very verbose. It almost feels like every other paragraph is a description of the previous paragraph. I have no problem with the actual pacing of the story (it's slow, but that's fine for this genre), but this falls squarely into the group of asian stories that employs the... more>> "He rolled down the hill and hit his head. The hill on which he rolled ended with his head being hit. Imagine, a hit on the head! After rolling down a hill, no less!" Brand of writing. (Obviously an exaggeration, yeah?)

Another complaint... Man all the names are the same. Suyoen, soyoen, geosook, geosoo, geowahn, dojin, sojin, etc. I know that perhaps to a native reader this would be less cumbersome, but I don't want to need a glossary to read the story.

The last one is a gripe about character consistency that happens to be a spoiler.

Spoiler

Geonsook (pardon my spelling, this would be the fellow acting club member that is beaten into the ground by his dad around chapters 230). In a story that tries so hard to express realistic characters, he changed far too much. Initially described as quiet and driven by praise (fine), then self-important (and entirely lacking in introspection, since he doesn't seem to understand his mistakes), then... Not quiet at all, the center of attention and everyone's friend. Then we have a flashback to him being not quiet at all and fully aware of his own psychosis as he manipulates people to like him in his previous school. I'm sure you could just say "well that's just how it ended up being", but it turned very dark for no discernable reason. The author clearly wanted to provide hardship and a chance for Maru to be aggressive and stuff. Whatever. He had the delinquents from previous story arcs that could have been used to vandalize the club, then be dealt with. Instead, he choose to corrupt a character that was gray into jet black, have him emotionally and physically abused by his father, and then brushed off by a main character who, as a forty-five year old father himself, should have been deeply disturbed that his actions led to severe domestic abuse and the emotional breakdown of a child. Instead, you have him saying things like 'I didn't want to do it, but he left me no choice' like he just shot a nazi or something instead of ruining a child's life for covering his props in paint. Even as an amoral character, that made me question what kind of father Maru could possibly be in the past or future. Hint: a really shitty one.

[collapse]

Anyway, those are my gripes. I really like stories that center on the entertainment industry, and this one does a pretty decent job if it. Granted, it still has all of the tropes in korean writing... Wealthy people always have a building in gangnam, fried chicken is beloved, money is the only thing that matters, etc. <<less

This thing really bothered me and it has a lot less tags than it should be. Seriously, he was a very depressing boy. Come up, you are high school and you should have fun. You should have looked after their strength and abilities, and gave more strength to your body, my friend.

If you love slow-paced and in-depth serious stories, you'll love this. But if you're the type to like the instant one where you don't have to think much about the logic, you should skip this...

The writing and the story were superb! It's pretty detailed especially about acting, and that's exactly my taste. The slow pace brought you to be really fond of the characters because you became really understand the character. Each one of them seemed alive in my mind. I laughed and cried because of them. Please believe me,... more>> all those seemingly directionless storylines have their own meaning. You can pick a life lesson here and there too. This story has its own color, not your typical success story from your usual reincarnation or turn back time stories.

Let me quote the author's words of why this has 1000+ chapters: "The story of Han MaRu, the main character, will be revealed if you clear each character's repertoire, psychology, and what happens accordingly." "If it had been to draw the story of Han MaRu's great success, he would have made his debut around chapter 10. In chapter 50, he filmed a popular movie, and in chapter 100 he became a famous star. Then, looking at the situation, I would have taken a few more films and finished it."

Here's a big clue that will turn your mind
Spoiler

The very first chapter or the prologue holds the biggest foreshadowing that will explain the main mystery of the novel. Don't forget that this novel has the fantasy tag. It's not an accessory~

Ah, the reason I'm not giving a full 5 star...
Spoiler

The ending was pretty cliche and tragic. It was understandable and I expected it, but I hate the ending. Those 1000 chapters felt like a waste. I cried for a week because of that. This was compensated by the side story tho...

The author had designed that kind of ending from the start, so I can't complain. <<less

A nice way to take a break from all the fighting and bloodshed, a very logical MC who can come off a bit cold at times (but makes sense if you think about it) really enjoyed it till now can't wait for more chapters.

I kind of understand why people gives bad rating for this novel. It is so damn slow! Many times I found myself skipping the whole text wall that explain a menial task that I dont give a damn about, whole chapter talking about technical acting stuff which I dont care. And yes, watching MC playing hero of justice is boring. Sure he had his reasons etc, but its still cringey and boring.

On the other hand I too understand why people gives good rating for this. When it reached the climax... more>> (and even after climax) it grips my attention so hard I just cant stop reading. I read the whole 190ch in 2 days (yeah its not like its a world record or anything, but it def a personal record for me).

Lastly, I hate long stories, especially from less popular author. They tend to go astray, lost in their own dream and imagination (or in the bad case, popular demand), forgot what the core of the story is all about. So far (ch190) this one is still loyal to its original story, we can only hope. Though I had a suspicion that this novel was never meant to be about acting at all. I mean when he first remember about his managing career he just said it like a trivial thing. After a while suddenly the majority of his past life was supposed to be about entertainment industry. Idk, its just something that felt weird to me. <<less

Many will find this novel "unique". And because of that uniqueness, some will like that and some will hate it.

The story start with a man in his 45 years of life who suddenly die and offered back to his highschool time. Typically, such " Back-in-time" novel will make the MC powerful by having memories intact and/or other superpower addition. Sure is, the MC in this novel, too, has power given to him (it's only 2 this far: read a glimpse of other mind and a bit of physical enhancement) -... more>> only with his memories being erased as the time he remember it all.

But, what's interesting is, the author didn't depict the MC dependent on the superpower given to him, rather make use of his 45 years way-of-thinking to solve the problems he faced as a highschooler.

To sum it all, the novel is really exciting and drive you to read more as the MC is kind of down to earth because his very actions are logical without much of fictional powers. <<less

It is a mixed bag, somewhat interesting because it is has a lot of details describing the characters, and generally coherent, but at the same time, that is all it is. The overall storyline is pretty weak, I know some view this as a slice of life novel, but that is really just an excuse for this novel not really having much overall direction. The biggest problem is the story has very little progression, and is very slow paced, even after 100 chapters. Let's face it, this story is not... more>> just slow, it is circling around going no where, so while a few chapters are really interesting, the reader is basically skimming for the next thirty chapters waiting for something to happen. <<less

A very refreshing slice of life. If we just forget the fact that the MC is sent back to the past and read it normally, the school setting and the slice of life aspect of the novel stands out a lot.

The author is doing a great job, Life, Once Again! is definitely one of the few novels that I liked from the depths of my heart. I cannot find any flaw in the story. From the wording to the characters, everything makes you empathize with the MC. Another thing I... more>> would like to say is that... For one second, I never thought that there were side characters in the novel. Every single person feels like the main character. Everyone has their backstories which the author tells us greatly, but not even for a second the reader gets bored or thinks that a character feels half-baked.

A beautiful story that is definitely worth a read. <<less

This novel is actually a great read. Slow paced, yet characters have depth. Realistic even. Though I'm getting impatient because he's not yet showing off his skills, but it's only natural since he's carefully treading his life path slowly but surely. This is the kind of novel you will read not just to pass the time but also to learn a thing or two about life.

I'm surprised this novel didn't make the ranking on NU. This one is definitely one of the best korean slice of life novel that's currently get translated. What's so special about this novel is how good the characterization of the cast, from the MC to the side character, it's giving me realistic feeling of how human usually act, portraiting the psychological aspect in a unique way. It's great. Honestly the MC's inner turmoil in these beginning chapters is more interesting than the overarching plot of any "Wuxia" novel I've EVER read. What I enjoy most about this story is the reaction of the side characters to the MC; something that feels natural and real. The MC doesn't act like an idiot or a genius because he never had that capability in the first place. The man was a bus driver that couldn't afford to give his daughter the opportunities he wanted in his previous life and... more>> is now set on becoming successful even at the expense of his own happiness to ensure his family's prosperity. It's perfect that the adults instantly recognize his maturity and he is described as a "an old man stuck in the body of a teenager". Although every other character is oblivious to his "second-life" they can feel his age emanating from his actions. He still hasn't truly adjusted and views the teenagers around him like little kids rather than equals; an attitude fitting for a formerly talentless middle-aged man.
This novel feels like a slow-burner, but it is definitely worth the wait. <<less
