SOOO SWEET! I felt that the gender roles were slightly reversed though, haha! This book is really refreshing and the female lead is such a genius manipulative female! Her personality is bright and bubbly, but she is courageous.

She loves her angel and doesn't care about being ruthless in order to protect him! AHHHH SO SWEET.

And the male lead is really caring. Cold and distant to the public, but sweet and doting towards the female. *Swoons*

Hahaha! Sorry I just had to laugh. This book is really adorable. A manipulative female lead and a gentle and simple male lead, it is like the roles are reverse. If you ever read some shoujo-like manga/novel, then you know how some male lead can be manipulative while the girl just follow along. But it is reverse in this novel. At times you might hate the female lead's actions, for being ruthless and even betrayal, but she fix that in the end. No one is perfect. She is very clever... more>> and brave, so that is a plus. She will do whatever she can to protect her "Angel". As she is the Witch who protect the Angel. Seriously, this book deserve at least between 4.5-5 stars, it is very good and cute. And just to let you know, the female lead's nasty character is part of the author's character. So don't criticize the female lead too much, Because you are criticizing the author ;) <<less

The plot of this novel is pretty good, the ideas are fresh, the characters very likeable

BUT

Midway through the novel, suddenly there is a group of people from a different work!

... more>> Usually, guest appearances are an interesting little addition and may push readers to check out the other work. But this time, these cameos were handled extremely bad!

1 - There weren't many named characters to begin with, but there were so many guest characters that by the end, 1/3 of the named characters were cameos.

2 - The genre of the novel shifted quite a bit with the appearance of these guest characters. Before it was showbiz - love - redemption story, after that it became yakuza - power struggle story.

3 - All of the cameos were named, even though most of them were completely irrelevant to the story and didn't even have any lines before disappearing. (like, literally, we don't need to know the name and appearance of that girl who just stood silently in a hallway without even saying a word - or that a girl who cried twice is a young heir of some rich daddy blahblahblah...)

4 - Some relationships between cameos were glossed over, in an attempt to get people interested in their story, but it only made me irritated - imagine watching a movie, where sometimes an unsuccessful trailer for another movie is inserted.

5 - All of the guest characters had too much presence! It was like: Oh, look, a group of PROTAGONISTS just walked in.

But the most upsetting part is that the story was actually pretty good! Until it went bad for the reasons stated above. It's very upsetting that the author ruined a story with a great potential for the sake of cheap advertising. <<less

A fiesty but still naive female reporter who is slightly obtrusive but well meaning is given to opportunity to meet with a usually private idol, and uses the opportunity to get an exclusive scope, until she realizes that her actions were actually hurtful and betrayed his trust, hence the need to win him back.

It’s not the most unique, nor is it particularly well written – especially with the insertion of characters from the author’s other series at pivotal parts (if you aren’t familiar with them it just seems to segue)... more>> but it is a nice read and a strong female lead with decent character development is hard to come by – especially where egos are somewhat humbled. The male lead doesn’t really have the same growth, mostly innocent with a traumatic past to demonstrate to the readers exactly how hurtful the MC’s actions are. Overall it’s not bad, and reminds me of Roman Holiday at the beginning. <<less

My feelings on this are mixed.

Firstly, the bad.

    • It's set in Japan but written like it's in China. Upon publication in China all names and locations were switched to Chinese ones; if you can do so without impacting your characters then it means you never wrote characters that were Japanese in the first place. I don't want to make this a massive issue, but culture shapes how people interact and think on a macro-level.
    • The characters and teenagers. The FL, who is a super high level reporter landing front page articles, and the ML who is a really famous singer are TEENAGERS. The ML is more forgivable, the FL on the other hand... stories can be unrealistic in their scope but should be realistic in their details. The story would not have suffered from having the MCs being in their mid-twenties.
Secondly, the good:

    • The FL screwed up and didn't receive instantaneous forgiveness from the ML. I really wish this would migrate into other female lead novels of this genre and that FLs would stick it out more lol
    • The side-characters felt like they had lives and interests separate from the MCs - I actually really like this whenever it appears in novels - it makes the side characters feel more real. It actually feels like this novel has (or should have) related works that follow the side characters haha
    • I like the FL's personality - she's brash and manipulative, and even if she doesn't necessarily understand how she hurt the ML she knows that she did definitely hurt him and she's sorry for that. I quite like the ML, too. You can really feel that he's been hurt by her actions but he's not just being a brainless idiot for trusting her (*cough* every other female-lead romance *cough*)
Thirdly, the mixed:

    • The FL somehow being friends with yakuza... I just... *cringe*...
    • There were plots that didn't really add up:
Spoiler

So the ML is hinted (and maybe confirmed?) to be the illegitimate son of a big-shot. And then he is mysteriously being threatened by some yakuza. COINCIDENCE? I think so because apparently the author didn't want to connect the two and instead came up with a crazy scheme for the yakuza to want to film a p*rn video starring the ML (under duress of course) to make money. Like... what?

[collapse]

It's disappointing that the author didn't capitalise on plot points they'd mentioned earlier and link the two together.

All in all this is a mediocre story, but it's bumped down to two stars because WHY ARE THE MCs TEENAGERS? IT MAKES NO SENSE!

I'm sure this novel meant to be a light & cute short story, without much angst. But hey this just piqued my resentment towards malicious reporters. MC sure reach the epitome of being shameless and not in a good way, she has a very thick face and low EQ (I'm very sorry to say). She deceived and manipulated people as she wished and blame the victim if things didn't go her way. She didn't seem to know the words PRIVACY & RESPECT. Even celebrities & singers are privileged and entitled... more>> to have their own privacy. <<less
