Genius of a Performing Arts High

After 10 years of dedicating his life to opera ever since he had quit the performing arts high school, he had failed at an interview. Losing his motivations, Jo Yunjae depended on alcohol to live out his days until one day, he had been sent back 20 years in time, to the day before his high school admission.

The reason for his time travel nor the terrible condition his body was in did not matter to him. The one and only, most important thing was that he could still sing, not as the previous baritone but as a long-coveted tenor.

I love the novel so far. Great characterization that the people feel real alongside a good knowledge course of singing. I love that it isn't the MC playing stocks or plagiarizing music. All he does is try to get better singing.

I really enjoy this novel and it shows great promise. I'm not good with reviews, but I've read a lot of novels here on NU and this novel is one that shows why I love this community and reading. I can't comment on the writing or give any real criticism because I'm not a writer. But as an avid reader and hobby editor for fan TLs, I can say that I enjoy it and that's all that really matters.

I would categorize it with Top Management, The Great Storyteller, and Perfect... more>> Superstar in feel. I'm only on chapter 7 and that might be too early to judge fully, but I fell in love and was hook on the first chapter. That's enough for me to recommended it to anyone. Good novels draw you in and keep you wanting more. This novel certainly does that.

It's unique with its focus on music and opera singing especially in the technical aspects of that. Additionally, it does second chance genre justice at least in my opinion and taste. It's not about revenge or fame and money. It's about making something of yourself, doing better, and following your passions.

The protagonist is mature and you can really tell both his and the author's love and deep knowledge of music. I have only a little experience in piano and trumpet, none in singing, and little real deep interest or passion for music, but the story draws me in. It makes me feel invested in the characters' success and hard work.

There's a large focus on music/singing and it gets into the technical aspects of it. The potential romance seems cute and promising. The girls have distinct personalities and while pacing can be slow and the tension of problems minor, the interactions arw great and really bring out a good slice-of-life kind of enjoyment. Also, props to the translator, RainingTL, for the regular and quality translations. <<less

OMGGG I missed this novel~ Actually, I already read this but still didn't finish due to the reason that I accidentally deleted my application that has my list of novels and their chapters but right now I found this again here in the novel updates! In the past, I wasn't able to put some reviews but right I can! This is good, I'm the type of person who likes to sing but doesn't know how to make it much better but when I read this, It's helpful and makes me... more>> more knowledgeable about the music or opera. Whoever wrote this novel is awesome because not all novel has something to do with some teaching or making the readers gain some knowledge not just pure entertainment about love. I'll make more reviews after I finish the novel. <<less

I started the series knowing that at the moment it is in hiatus, but even so I do not regret reading it. It is very good both the development of the character and the way of telling the events. I highly recommend it!

In addition, the translation is one of the best I have read despite having complicated terms at times, thank you very much for translating it.

The novel is very good and the little experience that I have with singing got an improvement just by reading such a well-researched novel. Better yet the translation is so good that it feels like I am reading a novel written in english, not one that was translated to english, with a few exceptions where korean culture had no equivalent for it in western culture. Like "changing sword styles", something that I only understood due to my experience reading all sorts of asian novels. Something that can't even be called... more>> an issue in my opinion.

Overall, both the novel and the translation deserve 5 stars. <<less

I really like it. At first I though its gonna be boring like another modern theme of time traveller but it suprisingly really good and refresing. For me who never touch thing like opera musical, it like wholesome new World. The author geniusly make me curious about the opera thing and make me wondering how the MC would sound. And guess what? I found someone I really like and make me think of our MC when I heard it, Dimash Kudaibergen, he's really cool

I like the concept so far, but author made the protagonist slightly cringe. The dude goes 20 years back in time, and for some reason, he thinks looking up jokes is gonna be funny. Anyone with a shred of common sense knows online jokes and puns are 99% tr*sh and wouldn't use them in daily conversation. This also goes for online pick up lines. It makes zero sense for a 40 year old man to have the social abilities and common sense of a 12 year old. The only way... more>> he could really, actually, believe that these things would work is if he was actually incapable of talking to other people normally, but given his career choice and what we see in his social interactions outside of these cringe moments, that should not be the case. I don't know, maybe this is the author putting in things he thinks are funny but are not. This could be that it does not translate well either, since it would be potentially funny if he did these things sarcastically, but from what I can tell he genuinely thinks this should work. Then again, this could also be a sort of anti-social lacks common sense self-insert, but these are all just guesses. It's most likely the bad humor bit.

Also, for some reason the author thinks that since the MC is older, he is no longer with the times. But that literally makes no sense. Old people are not with the times because they only get jokes, technology, and social culture from the generation and time they grew up in. Guess what, our protagonist went to that exact time period in his life, so there is no reason he shouldn't understand what "the kids are doing" since he grew up during that time. At the worst, he should be less familiar with older technology and uncomfortable talking like and hanging out with kids way younger than him, but by no means should he actually be incapable of understanding the current social culture. Even the biggest loser in the world understands memes nowadays, and it's not like that loser will stop understanding memes 20 years later, right? That's the only frustrating part for me, please don't make cringe characters, it isn't funny it just hurts to read.

I'm not very familiar with music, so it's harder for me to appreciate the writing. However, even without that experience I have a pretty good idea what's going on, and I think that's a testament to the author's skills. The characters are pretty interesting and the plot, though cliche, appears to be well executed so far. If the poor humor is just a few-time thing then I believe this has a lot of potential. I think those who like the music genre will most likely enjoy this. <<less

This is my first review here & I am writing it because this is the most interesting novel I found here. No killing, no repetitiveness, no s*upid characters (only naive high schoolers), no forced or illogical events. This novel feels alive & is going smoothly. Ok I'm addicted so my opinion is biased...

Amazingly good. The author seems to have done his research in depth. The characters are fleshed out very well, plot is intriguing & well-paced and light hearted humor is perfectly placed throughout the novel. Plot developments are well thought out and logical and the characters aren't one-dimensional.

If you have an interest in music, second chance novels, and funny character dynamics, this novel might be good for you.

In my opinion, this novel is a hidden gem.

Firstly, it is a great translation.

It's a very light-hearted novel, and you can go in without any musical knowledge. It's a very new perspective where the MC is an opera singer, and he trains to be better. I can't speak for the accuracy of the jargon, but it seems that the author knows his stuff in the eyes of me who has no knowledge. So that won't take you out of the immersive experience. It is a great read please give it a try :)

It is going the route... more>> of a dense MC harem which is personally not my kind of thing as I think most authors just don't handle it well. Maybe this will be different, but it's not something to stop reading the novel over. They're also leaning towards the route where the MC can do everything well related to music, from opera singing to conducting and composing. Thankfully the author seems to be incorporating it into the story gradually and have high hopes for the future. My only concern is as stated previously, the harem aspect which could make it tiresome to read if too much emphasis is put on it. It's a problem quite far off in the future though so I really hope it's done well as I do really like this novel. <<less

This is one of the better regression novels. The MC uses both his experience AND remembering real life events to get an upper edge. The characters feel real because the MC is not the end all be all. In the future, they were all successful with or without him and he's only accelerating their growth.

I can't tell how accurate this is, but I feel like I'm learning a lot of nuances of opera while reading this.

Cons : This reads like an food isekai novel. A hobbyist baker (talentless below average... more>> opera singer) is somehow a better cook (teacher) than the royal head chef (teachers at the art school). Somehow his advice is able to make people better exponentially, but the teachers with 20 years of experience can't. - Honestly, it's a little uncomfortable to read. The MC is someone with 20 years of experience, taking opportunities away from super talented people (this is touched upon on the story). He's only standing out right now because of his experience, knowing others will catch up quickly. He's talented in conducting (a department lacking talent), but he refuses to switch and would rather compete and steal opportunities from opera geniuses of his generation. <<less

It is a good novel, the characters are likeable and the musical parts are well written if you want some novel to pass the time read this, but be mindful that it has not been updated in 2 years so do not expect to see the ending soon or ever but if that does not bothers you but as I said it is a really good novel

I have never written a review before but I have been reading online novels for a few years.

I have read plenty and almost all genres of novels. The ones a particularly like are career based novels. This novel is the best in that category and what prompted me to come here is please continue this novel. I love it so so much and it breaks my heart everyday when I'm not able to read. Hence it's a request please continue it. It is the best novel.

I love this. But it's been a while since its last update. The plot is interesting too, the MC isn't that Op. He practiced and helped other girls *ehem* classmates to their music problem and stuff. I love how MC react and his personality

The focus on music and opera is definitely amazing, but it also often felt as if the author prioritized knowledge over plot. Basically the author introduces a new singing technique or style of performance and then decides how the plot should develop, instead of the other way around.

The MC is your typical childish returner MC that doesn't act his age, gets lauded genious by everyone he meets and faces no real challenges.

I found it disappointing that the MC has no "real" aspirations. "I want to see how far I can... more>> go" is wishy-washy and doesn't cut it.

If this novel was one of the "modern dungeon" types, then the writing style would work, but in this setting it falls flat. 3*, as it is well researched <<less

I had high high hopes and expectations when I started this. I was like "OMFG ANOTHER ML ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY RELATED NOVEL?!" I was especially excited due to the amount of 5 star spam. Even seeing the hiatus marker made me think I finally found another hidden gem that was dropped... like Top Management. But... my expectations were crushed. For one, this novel is very niche and targeted into real singers, specifically classical singing. If you dont have knowledge of it, there is no way you can enjoy this story to... more>> the fullest. That however I did not mark off for. The reason I marked this off to a 3 instead of a 4 is because of how slow paced the novel was. The plot isnt progressing, and the contents of every chapter are somewhat prolonged without anything special nor attention worthy. The novel after reading through everythg currently out, is only about normal school life but in a singing high school. The author also goes into trying to character build other chars, then proceeds to ignore that char for a while to move onto another char. Hm... I dont really know how to explain it, but if not for the novel not yet having a real plot and how slow paced the story was, this wouldve been a 4. Reading through the story was somewhat dull and I was only powering through due to me liking this niche. Honestly I cant explain it. However, if you rated Top Management as a 5, theres no way in heck that this can also be considered a 5 star. Luckily I powered through because the story finally started getting good and intetrsting from Act 5 onwards. This was because romance started being introduced while the MC also started progressing. However, the little plot there is in this book, u can spot and predict things from the very moment any minor plot is introduced. But honestly, there isnt really a plot in this novel other than a general goatp become a good tenor (male singer category). It is also hard to suggest as the translation isnt the best as it felt like lots of things such as emotion were lost in translation. It id also hard to suggest knowing that this book is on hiatus, and like how Top Management will never have an ending... this will never either. <<less

Character development is pretty good, makes the character have quite a lot of substance. 4/5

I haven't learnt other languages so I can't really say much in that department but the plot line is intriguing, it keeps you reading it for quite a bit of time but the comedy is rather lacklustre. I like rather light hearted comedy as the main point but you can't get the best of both worlds. So it's rather meh for me but still a good read.

Started reading this novel in spite of some doubts. I've lived with classical music with much of my life and I like it very much. Usually, I ignore novels under 4.0 rating and at that time, the rating was 3.9 for some reason. I gave it a go and I do not regret.

I much enjoy protagonists with passion and sincerity for their path. In fact, I think that the protagonist's denseness is even logically defended because of how much he loves to sing. Though I don't really enjoy the harem... more>> direction the story seems to be going, I can endure because the rest of the aspects are good.

There are cons, since I'm my opinion some of the "improvements" that the students make are kind of over shot and sort of quantified, even when they shouldn't.

Spoiler

For example in recent chapters, the protagonist learns to "put emotion into his song." It's quite unthinkable that for the long years in his previous life as a professional (even if he wasn't a soloist) that he never researched or knew to a certain depth the backgrounds of the music he sang. That's very unprofessional as a musician. I do agree the long years of experience helped him to assimilate emotions into his singing much easier.

[collapse]

Do give it a try, if you have an inkling of classical experience, it will be an enjoyable read. <<less

While having read only 6 chapters may be too early to tell, this novel managed to hook me from the start. No prior experience in opera needed! The protagonist will be your teacher.

The author's love and interest in music is clearly reflected by this single-minded MC who values the talents of the people he surrounded himself with. It's also hilarious to read about his interactions with his peers, as an older brother/old uncle kind of person.

I love hardworking MCs, and it's the icing on the cake when said MC has... more>> a little something that makes him unique and a cut above. He's really talented, and perhaps a genius in his own right (just that his potential wasuwas in his previous life). Even then, he remains humble and underplays his genius-like actions in the name of experience.

Characterization is underway, and I like how the MC and the other characters are being fleshed out. I look forward to how the novel unravels!
