The Husky and His White Cat Shizun

Description

Mo Ran thought becoming Chu Wanning’s disciple was a mistake.

His shizun was really too much like a cat while he himself was a dumb pup who’d only slobber and wag his tail.

Dogs and cats were different by nature; originally, the dumb pup didn’t want to reach his furry paws out to that cat.

At first he thought, dogs should be with dogs, like his shixiong, beautiful and tame like a cute Japanese Spitz, and the two of them together would surely be a match made in heaven.

Yet, after having died and reborn, after having lived two lives, the one he hauled back each time to his den in the end was always the one he couldn’t stand at first: that snow-white kitty shizun.

Like all readers, I have biases. I love angst. I love sadness. I love dumb tsundere character types. 2HA had it all for me. It has plenty of triggers and there are problematic tropes being used here. I think in the context of the novel, it makes sense, but it's still problematic.

This is the first danxia novel I have ever finished and it captivated my attention in a way no other novel had. Do I think it's perfect? Absolutely not. Does it come close? Not really. But, it definitely has... more>> a special place and I feel it deserves a five and everyone should check it out because it's a damn enjoyable ride.

Book 1, to me though, is a masterclass of angst writing (and I have to really credit Rynn for a wonderful translation). This was the book that made me cry like a little baby multiple times and kept me crying and on the edge of my seat. We are introduced to Mo Ran, our dumb husky, and Chu Wanning, our dumb cat. One thing 2HA does amazingly is characterization. Quickly, they become almost like real people. Their thoughts are extremely consistent, their characters have quirks and personality that make them feel real. The side characters (notably Xue Meng) also feel alive and add to the story. Shi Mei was the flattest, to me, in Book 1, but don't worry -- we'll talk about him later. The plot and pacing was tight and flowed wonderfully. It starts off a little slow, but literally after chapter 10, the chapters began to fly by. Arcs came and went beautifully, the plot introduced questions and tension as well as reveal flawed characters. We had stakes. No one was perfect, far from it.

As an aside, I love stakes. To me, it builds tension and investment. I want to know if my characters will survive and what are the consequences. I don't want them to steamroll through the novel. Tangent aside, this is something I love in movies, TV, and novels.

Anyway, Book 1 was amazing to me. Book 2 and 3 I had to read an edited MTL and I think that hindered my enjoyment. But, there were more character development for all the characters, side characters included. It really hit home just how dark and bleak this world can be. Things feel hopeless often and boy is it delicious. However, Book 2 also had some of the most positive and happy moments for our main characters. The farm arc is a wonderful break after Book 1 and, no real spoilers, but it really helps quenches the thirst. Book 3 reveals more about the plot and you really realized how interconnected the lives of the characters are. Things sometimes feel unsatisfying and the conclusion really left you with a 'that's it?' feeling. Does it fit? Yes. But is it like the other novels I've read? Not really.

Issue with Book 3
Spoiler

Although I thought it was delicious for angst and really showed how good Mo Ran originally was. The demonic flower is a bit of a cop out and undermined Mo Ran's development in Book 1. He's a character who has done bad things and had potential for hate, adding the flower to me felt unnecessary. It hurt to know he took a bullet for someone, but it also ruined the impact of his development for me because we now have something to blame other than him. I can't really explain it properly and need to really settle my thoughts, but this plot point is something I both hate and love. I could have done without it, but some moments created from this reveal were golden.

[collapse]

Book 2 and Book 3 really made me fall in love with Mo Ran. In Book 1, I was hesitant about him, but his development was remarkable. The other characters, Xue Meng, and side characters like Ye Wangxi Nan Gongsi, etc, also have their moments and they feel real and fleshed out as well. In general, I think our main characters do stand out the most, but I have to give credit to meatbun for making her side characters memorable in their own rights.

I know I sort of brushed past Book 2 and 3, but the MTL translation was a bit to be desired. I might update and reveal once I finally read a full fan translation of 2HA from beginning to end. Overall, I think this is wonderful and highly rec to anyone interested in crying their butts off and falling in love with Chu Wanning. Warning -- some scenes genuinely are problematic, but there's still plenty to love about it regardless. <<less

Edit: so basically we'll get a drama lmao it better not f*ck up. But Wannings actor is so on point, he alone is going to support the rating.

This novel is seriously so good, that I finished it with MTL (which usually makes me drop the novel) and I STILL like it so much that it's one of my favourite novels.

Story
You usually have either focus storyline or focus BL. Meatbun however is one of the rare autors to have actually woven those two together AND NAILED IT. Their relationship is related to the plot, yet it doesn't overshadow it (if that makes sense). The romance didn't make me cringe at all and it is not introduced incredibly late like MXTX's novels (no shade I love MXTX), but it also isn't an easy-going hey beautiful I saw you standing there so let's f*ck romance. I'm looking forward to see how China is going to censor all the gay and substitute it with brotherhood. Prob in the Beloved Enemy style. I hope I'm not giving them any ideas.

So our MC Mo Ran basically kills himself after he's become the most powerful yet most hated figure in the world, and he is reborn to when he's 16y (?) old. The reason for his blackening is the death of his crush in his previous life, so now that he is reborn in a time where his crush is still alive he decides to abandon his previous (past life) path and protect his crush. But nothing is as it seems BECAUSE THIS NOVEL HAS LIKE 10 PLOT TWISTS??????? LIKE 10. Authors try their hardest to come up with a plot twist and usually fail to deliver a good one, but Meatbun just casually throws 10? Or something like 10 I dunno what you consider a plot twist but uhm at least 5 like bro wtf???? A fking great god.

The story is so complex yet not difficult to follow. Everything is clearly well thought out by the writer and no chapter has a written-on-impulse kind of feel to it. The only con is that a certain event prior to a plot twist takes in my opinion too much time/pages, but that can also be because the arc didn't interest me.

There are r*pe scenes but you can argue that it isn't romanticised as... (I don't know if it's a spoiler?)
Spoiler

... the MC (gong) knows he's wrong and tries to somehow make up for it in his present life. So it becomes a healthy relationship omg.

[collapse]
It's also arguable that it is romantacised as the scenes are pretty explicit.

The emotional level is also so incredibly high. I know something is good when it makes me cry.

Characters
The main characters are perfect round characters that go through developments and aren't too basic. Ofc some mainstream characteristics like a cold beauty dressed in white are to be found, but these characteristics add to the charm instead of making it boring.
The author has done an INCREDIBLE job at organising the timeline, so the actions of the main characters are all eventually tied to past events and explained really well, and I really want to applaud Meatbun for it because I haven't seen anyone doing a better job. A fking talent.

Style
The translators did a really good job, and I think the MTL was also alright. The style isn't easy primary school level, but not difficult that you have to re-read sentences to understand what's exactly going on. It's just right. There are ofcourse Chinese proverbs etc, but that doesn't really prevent you from understanding the event and the translators also try to make it understandable. If you use MTL however you're f*cked, but again the story is still perfectly to follow.

Conclusion
Just read it and cry.

Dreadfully boring. I'm yawning in pain.

There was nothing likeable. Take away the captivating writing style and you will wonder why am I wasting my time here.

MC is written as a sack of laziness. Well I'm also lazy to read you.

He is a piece of crap.

None of the characters are likable either. Overhyped rubbish.

No point in the story. I wish I can rate it 0 stars.

I was hesitating on reading this for months because of no proper translation and all these tags (r**e/mol*stat*** which I m not a fan of) but I finally started it for angst and I don't regret it at all... personally I don't prefer reading mtl specially for historical or cultivation novels but it was surprising when I straight up finished this long story...I went from hating/disagreeing with some characters to understanding them... the character of mo ran isn't ideal but very realistic. For the first 100 chps I really disliked... more>> him and probably nothing could make me have a favourable impression of him but I m glad I read till the end...I just want everyone to pls be patient and read till the end because things are very diff from what they seem to be at the start. One more thing I liked abt it other than the seme protagonist is the fact that MC isn't flawless or completely whitewashed. Mostly the pov we get is of MC with sometimes ml's perspective too. The unreliable narration by mo ran is frustrating but it adds element of surprise and sudden realisations. Even very small details are crucial and the world building was quite interesting and engaging. Chu wanning is my fav ML of all times (he deserves the best!) and all side characters are developed brilliantly. Contrary to what many think that mo ran is being victimised by author I think it's more of shedding a light on his thought process and reason behind his actions. I mean if u were to talk abt some incident u r very likely to add your explanation abt why u did smthg instead of just presenting facts. If the pov has being of cwn things wouldn't be that diff because he hardly blamed mo ran... that's what I hated abt him and that's why I came to respect that guy because of how calmly he can try to understand people who may have hurt him. Coming from someone who doesn't really believes in second chances or forgiveness.. the redemption and character development here was somewhat satisfying for me.

Thanks for reading my rant. If u r still here I just wanna say that give the book a try if u r not uncomfortable after reading the tags. I have missed out on many gems due to reading reviews beforehand. If I recall some things I would add to it although I suck at expressing my opinion.

(BTW there is a manhua version of this and I have heard abt official eng novel and drama series based on this so u can check those out too:)) <<less

I've been reading this for a while, until the previous translator took down their translations. And then this Tea Novel submit this translation, I was happy at first, and then I read it and felt my brains turned into congee. I really don't understand why no one stops them from translating. I've checked and I heard their translations of case file compendium is also a mess. Sometimes when I didn't understand what they wrote, I checked the raw for that paragraphs and input it in google translator and guess what,... more>> sometimes google translator is better, sometimes its worse.

Those 4 stars I give is for Meatbun and the previous translator (forgot the name), not for Tea Novel, in fact it's 4 and not 5 because of them. For anyone who just starts reading it, I suggest you wait for sevenseas, even though it's still months away. I'm going to wait for them too because I don't want Tea Novel wrecks a good story that Meatbun had worked so hard to create.

As for the story itself, it's completely complicated and full of heart slicings, and the little bit of smut here and there gives the story some colors and not a complee tragedy. Though sometimes I wondered how Mo Ran could be so idiot in his first life to the point of total blindness to the truth, perhaps that's just what it does to someone who's grieving. I was glad he got the "slap" after Butterfly Town though, and his character development after. <<less

Bro, the only problem this story has is its word counts.

No kidding! A lot of stuff can be annexed and you probably can get 30% of your time (and probably money) saved:

Spoiler
  • foods description
  • grotesque stuff (probably author just want to write gore)
  • side-mission for over 5 chapters; suddenly it became slice-of-lifey
  • characters analysis on almost every characters
  • side characters' flashbacks and background story are almost a novella on its own
  • main characters' same inner thoughts retold over and over again, in different poems
  • all melodramatic thoughts to add to its melodrama
  • (more to add)
[collapse]

Because a lot of things are written in too much unnecessary details, that's why there are more people who get disgusted by the morality (or the lack of it) of the story.

For example:

Spoiler
  • Mo ran's reason for humiliating his shizun are much (arguably) acceptable if author didn't write too much DETAILS on the r*per inner thought while doing the deeds throughtout the story as if wanting to glorify it
  • excessive main couple's inner (lustful) thoughts towards each other makes the contrast between their passion too apparent when objectically this much different in temperature are quite reasonable
  • (more to add)
[collapse]

Too many word counts also made some plot twist already stale when it's opened.

Spoiler

Like about one character's true gender or about the villain's identity, etc. Since it's also pretty predictable.

[collapse]

Beside that, everything are actually pretty good if not some are average. At least they're not something big to consider cutting of one star.

You'll also get used to author's writing style who seems to like to be more colloquial because the use of too much ?? Or !! In the narrative.

After all it's a long ride, how can you not used to it??

But this word counts also made this book rating soar because of the blatant lustful thoughts of the characters, the smut, their melodramatic inner thoughts, the good characters analysis which makes (Mo Ran's) character development become chef kiss, etc.

So the problem, author has to pick better which one to write details and which one are not to. This also related to story pace.

Spoiler

A good book needs editing, and editing means annexing a lot of unnecessary stuff that this book producing like tree producing air. Since this story started as webnovel so it can't be helped.

But if it's started as published book, imagine your wasted time and money for every unnecessary words. And imagine buying the middle volume of this series and finding out it doesn't contain as much as 30% of meaningful content in other volumes. You'll feel cheated and want to roast the author.

[collapse]

The art of enjoying this book are to be able to tell WHEN to allow yourself being sweep by the current and when to stay detached, and WHEN to read in details and when to skim. <<less

Translation: I have only read Rynn & Suika's translations (which they have since taken down). Their translation was pretty top-notch. I know I'm picky in saying this but Rynn was the better translator of the two, as I remember thinking halfway through that the translation suddenly seemed sloppier & less elegant/refined than the first half (that was when Suika took over). Please don't hate me, that's just my opinion... Both are excellent translators!

Story: I'm not gonna repeat what many reviewers have already said - you either... more>> love the story or you hate it (& it would do you well to read ALL the tags before jumping in).

Surprisingly, of all the f*cked up sh*t happening in the story (& I don't necessarily mean that in a bad way) the thing I realize I hated most was that Chu Wanning fell in love with a 15 year old Moran. Like, I really hate danmei where adults are crushing on children. People can argue all they want that it takes place in a different time/reality but still, it's hard to get into the story imagining a grown ass man being into a kid. I mean, also what is the appeal? A scrawny 15 year old that hasn't even finished going through puberty & probably has that awkward, screechy voice & peach fuzz mustache. Other than another 15 year old teen, why would adults be attracted to that unless they were a predator??

Ok fine, I tried to get through the story by pretending Moran was 20 years old when he got adopted by his uncle.

Then there's the r*pe. I understand that it was the terrible sh*t Moran did in his other life that he appears to regret, however he constantly gets h**ny & turned on whenever he has flashbacks of raping his Shizun. Like bro, if you truly regret the heinous actions of your past life, then those memories should actually make you sick & disgusted rather than turned on.

Characters: They're all wonderfully flawed, aren't they? I do like that. No one is perfect in this story & it makes me sympathize with them more. I do get annoyed by Chu Wanning & his whole "well this is who I am it's too late for me to change" bullshit. Who hurt you?? No, really - as I will probably never get to finish this story unless they officially translate to English! Moran has his tragic backstory - his character growth is interesting. Anyway, Meatbun is an interesting writer & I hope her works can get officially translated so I can finish the damn story! <<less

I hate r*pe but I love angst! Sadly, most angst stories do have r*pe. I was about to drop this when it was getting too f*cked up but I pushed through.

So... to anyone who has the same preference as me and has been experiencing the same thing I felt, I have one thing say: DON'T DROP THIS!

I understand those people who already dropped this but only those who finished are ones who truly know how gold this novel is. I've finished reading this for more than a year ago but... more>> the pain and beauty of this novel is still in my heart. It's sad to see people dropping this, but I'm telling you, you need to hang on!

This is not justifying r*pe because I hate it myself. You need to read it yourself to understand what I'm saying, because if you did drop this, you will miss out a hidden treasure.

Just one little thing to complain (MAJOR SPOILER, ENDING PART) :

Spoiler

MAJOR SPOILER, ENDING PART!

I didn't like that Mo Ran and Taxian-Jun shared one body. Like they're supposed to become one—possessive and aggressive but also good and obedient kind of Mo Ran. Won't that be the hottest and perfect Mo Ran? Imo, that was he really was supposed to be like. Now he seemed like he has a split personality. I didn't buy that it was because his scattered soul pieces were separated for too long because if that was the case, Chu Wanning should also had been the same. Tho his souls didn't really differ in personalities but they were still totally not the same. So there should have been a somehow or mild (?) split personality too.

[collapse]

Anyway, if you're really curious what changed my mind (MAJOR SPOILER, BIG REVELATION) :

Spoiler

MAJOR SPOILER, BIG REVELATION

There was a black seed/flower (I don't remember well) implanted in Mo Ran's heart. What was even more painful was it was originally meant to be implanted in Chu Wanning but Mo Ran stopped Shi Mei and offered himself instead. His last lines were confession of pure love before he finally lost his memories and slowly turn evil. 😭 I f*cking bawled! When everything was revealed, Mo Ran even told Chu Wanning he would do the same thing if that happened again.

Character development is 100/10! Story 100/10. A MUST-READ! <<less

First, let me warn you, THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR ANYONE WITH A WEAK HEART AND EASY TO CONCLUSION. Hold your fingers before commenting. I'm quite annoyed that some people give this book a bad rating when they are only half way through.

This book is the best book ever. The love story between Mo Ran and Chu Wanning is the most painful and sweetest story ever. If you feel annoyed with Mo Ran's character treating his Shizun very, very badly, then you better come back after the book is finished... more>> translating, and I promise you will find out how amazing this masterpiece is!
Spoiler

For me, Mo Ran is the most unlucky character of all. His life is not smooth at all, even he accidentally hurts the person he loves the most, he respects, he is all he wants in this world. What happened was caused by his too great love for his Shizun

[collapse]

Ugh, I never commented on NU because my English is so bad and I'm sorry for that. I can't stand the bad reviews some people have given here. <<less

The people equating this novel to other r*pe turns to love interests novels must not have read the whole book. Mo Ran is the ultimate victim in this novel and yet he still continuously sacrifices himself to make up for his crimes, that he was forced into committing. The author does an exceptional job creating each characters personality so through this we can understand that Chu Wanning is actually an intelligent character and doesn't just fall victim to baseless emotions that are often depicted in r*pe turns to love novels.... more>> He thoroughly understands the trauma that Mo Ran went through and knows that it was him who should have protected Mo Ran.

Spoiler

also for those who are upset about Mo Ran's soul joining with Taxian Jun's soul in the end you are ignoring that Taxian Jun is also a victim even after all the abuse he gave to Chu Wanning. Taxian Jun was the product of the curse that was placed on Mo Ran and was unable to feel anything but loathing and hatred. Once his soul was no longer being manipulated he ended up sacrificing himself to save an entire world. I think it's fair for the distorted/manipulated Mo Ran to also have redemption especially since he suffered and lost more than anyone else

A vast sea of misunderstandings. Not even a speck of land could be seen. It is like endless frustration with no way out.

I am not going to talk about or attempt to summarize the story here. I'll go straight to how I feel about the book. I love the characterization, enjoyed the slow-burn romance and growth of the characters. The fleshed-out characters, even the supporting characters, are pretty well rounded. The backstories of the characters are intriguing and well written as well. These are the best parts of the book.

The... more>> not so great part is, I think the author is out to torture the poor readers, with.....
a) Endless misunderstandings. I find it suffocating and frustrating.
b) Too many repetitions. The author and even the characters keep repeating their own words over and over again.
c) Spoonfeeding the readers. I don't need that. I can think and decide for myself. Thank you.
d) Information dump.

The book has the potential to be good and better than what it is now. That is.....
...... if there are no overly annoying endless sea of misunderstandings.
..... if the author knows less is more with the number of conflicts.
..... if the author knows there is no need to over-inflate the angst and tragedies to gain the reader's pity.
Lastly, if we do not have to put up with the repetitive details and the information dumps, it will be a great book.

There are some redeeming features like times when the plot hits gold and made a deep impression, even earning tears and heartbreak from the reader. The main couple is so lovable that you can't hate but want to protect them. On top of that, I also enjoy the exciting non-consensual s*x s*ave parts. I love the fact that the top is physically taller and bigger than the bottom. Fond that the top is manly and dominant. Always a joy when the top is physically dominating. I like manhandling that oozes thick male pheromone. A feisty bottom is a cherry on top. I am glad the books ace these elements.

To sum, the book is driven by misunderstandings and a mountainous amount of conflicts heaped upon the poor main leads. Books with too many unnecessary conflicts and misjudgements could lead to the annoyance and frustration of the readers. I love angst in books, but not angst just for the sake of it, as it is a cheap poor effort to manipulate pity from the readers.

I read this book in preparation for watching the upcoming Chinese drama adaptation of it. I would still watch the show despite experiencing some fallout with the book itself, hoping that it would be different.

The amount of emotions I had to go through reading this novel was not less. It made me shed tear, made me go into an absolute rage and sometimes it made melt from happiness. I don't dare rate this because honestly I have mixed feelings about this damn book.

PLOT

The Plot is marvelous. The world building and characterization is perfect. I have never read a better book with such an intricate plot. Every line in the book matters. All the characters has done some absolute horrible thing but they are... more>> justified in a way. This book made me realize that there is no right or wrong. It all depends on the person's view. I felt immense hatred towards some characters but reading the circumstances which lead them into doing those things - My anger disperses. Reading this you will know how much care and thought was given in building this book.

The GREAT plot doesn't give justice to the ANGST. Till the 310 chapter - The amount of times I felt happy could be counted in one hand. The whole book is just PAIN>PAIN>PAIN. The author stabs into your heart and you think 'It's fine.. This is the first time' but before it starts scabbing, you get stabbed again. And this goes on for 300 chapters. The only thing that kept to me going through this book was chanting to myself ' This is a HE.' Again and again.

CHARACTERS

The Characterization in this book has to be the best one I have seen so far. There are no OP protagonists. They are selfish. They are greedy. They show human behavior. The amount of times the various methods to torture the MC came to my mind was not less. This book perfectly portrays human behavior. There is no ultimate change in character after a time period or changing their personality after meeting their lovers. Some characters induce such rage in you that you almost want to have an apocalypse but then you think from their POV and you will probably act the same.

The book is absolutely brilliant but before recommending this to someone I should spend at-least 10 min telling them the emotional changes you can go through while reading this. This book show you pain like no other. Now when I read other books of people betraying each other, I don't feel the earlier rage, I just huff and think - 'This is it?'. That's when I knew this book f*cked me up.

So I Say - READ THIS BOOK. It is something you wouldn't want to miss. Even though It has brought me so much pain, I have to reluctantly say that this should be THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ.

If you are looking for a good heart ripping and trying to collect a bucket of tears while you're at it, this is the one for you.

The title, is so accurate yet so misleading. I thought it was quite a cute title, but little did I know, the husky was SO DUMB, I wished I strangled it. The first 100 chapters were just painful. I have cried many times while reading other similar heartbreaking novels, but never have I EVER cried for 100 chapters straight. I dropped it at one... more>> point because it was just too devastating. The vines full thorns tied together the misunderstandings, lack of communication, violence, and love into one package: 2HA.

The MC was so well developed. His character was portrayed as cruel, vengeful, and twisted. He never listened to explanations and created this false reality, unaware of his true feelings. As the story unravels, I felt so much heart ache for the ML. It was true relief when the MC slowly made his way to the truth, but so annoying and irritating when this could have been cleared before. Many times, I threw my phone and wished I could personally strangle the MC. I also wanted to slap the ML and give him a wake call and make him explain things. But the pain and sorrow is what makes this so intriguing.

I read MDZS/GDC, TGCF/HOB, and SVSS before picking this up. I see how similar 2HA and MDZS is. Ngl, I live for MDZS. I love the wangxian ship and their plot, but 2HA really take it all up a notch. GCD is a gentle stab in the heart compared to 2HA, which is a heartbreaker, full of violence and suffering. It is so saddening to see all the misunderstandings that could have been easily solved with explanations, but did it happen?? No.

It is a very good read so far, despite the anger and soul shattering moments. I totally reccomended this for those who are looking for a painful wake up call. There was absolutely no sweetness at first but eventually, you'll see it. Its like feeding you bitter medicine and then offering you candy, but it's sour candy. Relief for the slightest moment, but not for full enjoyment. <<less

Looking for a novel with more than 50 chapters worth of tear inducing angst? (Did I mention that I cried for 50 chapters straight? Well, now I did.) You've come to the right place!

At first glance it seems like a normal 'time travel to fix everything and save everyone' novel.
Spoiler

But I was dead wrong. Many characters I learned to love died. When I realized the 'past' world was just another timeline, I was shocked. Who wouldn't be shocked to realize that it's not that the other person ALSO travelled back in time, it's that the entire time line where you're a monster still exists!

All those people were still dead. Mo Ran still mu*dered his uncle and aunt, he still did all those cruel and sadistic things, and he still mu*dered almost everyone. There really was no hiding the past and honestly? I like it. How many BL are you gonna find that hold their crappy characters actions accountable? And how many of those crappy characters will actually feel horrible about their own actions???? TBF tho, he was technically cursed and manipulated into becoming a monster, tho that really doesn't make anything better.

There are r*pe scenes and torture scenes in later chapters. Please mind the tags. Seriously.

About the story:

The start was extremely weird. I almost dropped the novel because I thought the rest of the book might be written like that too.

Book 1 starts with cruel and cold king Mo Ran who just reincarnated into his past self. I honestly did not expect him to get any better, as most novels just keep their apathetic cruel personalities intact. But boy was I surprised at the character development on later chapters.

By book 2 you can really see how Mo Ran is changing for the better. It's also where the plot starts to really get interesting.

Book 3 is angst. I don't know how many chapters I spent crying while reading them, but it was at least half of them.
Spoiler

Shi Mei... is worthy of being the final villain. The disgusting injustice his race was faced with (which I was horrified about in the beginning and was worried no one would ever bring it up again) filled me with vicious rage. The part where they bred them like pigs and slaughtered them...I would want the world to burn too. He might be a true monster for ruining two worlds and killing entire cities worth of people, but I'm still happy he succeeded in saving his people.

Meatbun (author) must be really sadistic... I thought I knew pain before, but Meatbun has really opened my eyes to a whole new world of suffering. It has literally liquefied my brain and my last remaining (1) brain cell is used to obsessively reread the entire thing until a new update is released.

Plot: 10/10, story is super intriguing + cool fight scenes + extraordinary suffering

Style: 10/10, Meatbun's writing is so descriptive + awesome translation make it really enjoyable to read

... more>> Character Development: 11/10, characters are so 3-dimensional + have realistic motives

s*xual Tension: 1, 000/10, we love some good ~tension~ that leads into nice, steamy ppp

Yearning: 1000000000000000/10, the yearning, oh god the y e a r n I n g cannot be quantified by mere numbers <<less

Oh gosh

Well, let's start with the good sides! The first two of the three books were great, MC well developed, world well build, relationship w ML well written. Really good, exactly as they tell you in the other comments.

... more>> TW// spoilers and heavy stuff

I read it together with my bff/soulmate for life, and that heavens for that because the comments here made me feel like I was the only dumbass who didn't like the last book and the ending in general. The r*ape scenes are very very recorent (and always remiding us of how much Mo Ran isn't IT) in the whole book but the last part gets really graphic and wow I just skipped a few paragraphs sometimes.

Suddenly, tons of characters jump out of no where and, doesn't matter how old and powerful they are, Mo Ran is better than all of them in his early twenties with no explanation of it, nor hints of what powers he even has...

... and the final explanation was just wtf... all characters' endings were wtf tbh

T'was what we call in my mother tongue "um Deus nos acuda" (may God help us).

I'm excited for the drama because the graphic non con will obviously be cut off and the beginning of the story was really good. <<less

I'm both impressed and immersed in the story. Although... the plot style and character traits really really reallyyyyy reminds me a lot of how MXTX writes her work. It just feels strange, as it's written by a different author, yet the atmosphere is similar.

Like, throw in a chunk of Mo dao zushi, mix in a dollop of scum villian's.. (cant remember the full name) and a handful of Heaven's official Blessing's violence x1000.

Boiled in a pot of extra bloody dog blood soup, with extra misunderstandings, some clichè clippings, a handful... more>> of scuminess and garnished with a white lotus bloomed under the white moonlight......

You can really tell that the author loves dog blood plots, and I do sometimes find it funny at how much drama is crammed in.

Like, oh hey, unrequited love, misunderstandings, scum top, abuse, naive trust in a**holes etc. Like sigh. They are all clichè, like, I've read some paragraphs /sub plots that are similar in more than 1 danmei novel, but the presentation is good.

But unlike a lot of wuxia danmei novels, the top is an ass... this plot is usually seen in modern danmei novels (ones I've read, which is a common recycled plot) with a white moonlight, unrequited love and loyal shou where the scum top will redeem himself, work hard to gain forgiveness and bam! Happy ever after.

Honestly, I can't help but spit at the scumminess of the MC at the beginning. (I know he'll probably redeem himself in later chapters... but this doesn't mean I'll stop spitting at his shitty personality!!!!!!!!) *pui pui pui!!!! <<less
