Tong Yao woke up and found herself in an unfortunate situation.

Not only did she transmigrate into a fantasy-romance novel that had been dropped by the author, but she also found herself in the body of a throwaway character that was fighting against the protagonist for a man!

For the sake of her survival, Tong Yao immediately reached forward to grab the protagonist’s leg.

“Mistress, I was wrong!”

It starts out as good dumb fun with interesting personalities and edgy love. Maybe even great. It feels aimless after the start, though, like it's a serial novel with no goal besides churning out chapters for practice. The complicated and interesting skills of the POV character are underutilized other than plant Pokemon, simple medicine, and instakills, because the arcs revolve around the strong-to-overwhelmingly-strong growth of her partner. As with many cultivation stories, progress becomes a slog and the relationships between both major and minor characters become dull and unsurprising over... more>> time.

Eventually I realized I was very bored and continuing on sheer momentum. You may as well read a system novel obsessed with stat blocks, or repetitive action comics. I don't need this distraction anymore, but I didn't hate it. <<less

It's an okay novel. As far as the story goes it's a little interesting, although nothing original, where a woman gets thrown into the character of one of the novels that she likes. The Yuri setting is pretty original with this, I've seen one or two novels that have done this (I Favor the Villainess), although this novel isn't as interesting as that I would say. The two main characters are for the most part engaging, although maybe a little too cliche, where one is overpowered and the other one... more>> is underpowered (although the direction the novel is going in is that she will gain some power), and the main character is often saving the other one who is putting herself into situations in need of saving.

That being said, it suffers from what a lot of Xuanhuan cultivation novels suffer from. If you have heard people say "You don't know how high the heavens are", if you have seen people sneer, if you have seen someone be a frog in a well, if you have seen people trying to save face, if you have seen hundreds of people fighting over the same resource and then the main character get away while pissing everyone off, if you have seen cultivation families fighting to avenge the death of some scumbag brother/sister in their sect, etc. Etc. Etc. Just because it's got the Yuri tag doesn't mean it doesn't have the same old repetitive bs that all these novels have.

On the other hand, although it does have those tropes, the author tends to focus quite a bit on the relationship with the two main characters, and this keeps it engaging enough to not necessarily overlook these cliches but at least stay engaged with the story. Somewhere around a 4.0/5 <<less

Straight Uke?

Err, I really hesitated at first.

But after reading a few chapters, I grew to like it more and more.

This is not the first I've read a Cultivation novel that was tagged Yuri.

But this is certainly the most detailed and entertaining one.

BORING

It starts off nice and interesting but nothing is ever actually happening.

The MC is always causing problems and the original MC fixes everything, this has happened 1 too many times and it's just tiring now. The so called yuri or romance isn't interactive and is more of always almost there then running away from it. A couple of chapters after one of them becomes a yandere it's just boring and annoying.

This has been an excellent read so far.

Action, bit of drama, comedy and love.
The growth of the story is great, the various threads takes time to develop.

In short it's not a painfully slow, nor painfully fast novel. Things takes time, but delightfully so.

I really like the story you can see the character development and Protagonist are not OP they have paved way through constant practice and determination. The MC is weak at first but along the way you can see how her character grow. She will learn a lot (fighting techniques, and the secret of her power) with the FL by her side. Also their romance is not fast pace and slow burn but just right!!! Not forced that's why I love it

As an update to my preliminary review I can now see why people are annoyed with the MC lol. She started off as naive and cute at first but that really starts to slowly get on your nerves when you realize that for over 200 chapters she never really grows up or develops. Without her assortment of plants and needles she is really quite useless and the FL always has to rescue her. You would think that trying to save everyone is not something that she is capable of but... more>> she still tries to do it anyway and puts other people at risk as a result. It is just so frustrating! Honestly, I find myself reading this only for Seventh Sister alone. Qian Wanyu is just a badass and the type of overprotective wife that makes you swoon. Her love for the MC is so strong and resolute.

There is also a modern side story that randomly gets inserted once in awhile which really slows down the pace of the novel. It would have been better if the author put this at the end instead of in between certain events within the main story. Also, it basically is just the MC and FL raising a child together in modern times which is just awkward and weird and not what I really wanted to read about.

Final verdict: 4 stars, minus 1 star bc of the MC and certain plot points that seem bizarre and unnecessarily long-winded. <<less

This is pretty good but certainly not without any faults. Though, I think if you are able to suspend your disbelief at times and look past them, this will still be a decent read for you.

Things are quite slow-paced (initially at least) but there are parts that don't go along with that. This seems like an issue since it creates a sense of dissonance. Li Yunan is a good example of this. His appearances were fleeting and his feelings developed very quickly and even that might have been ok if... more>> you actually get to see the feelings develop but it is more or less just dropped on you. When it's like that, he doesn't seem like a character that you get to know and love but rather a tool to be utilized when the author feels like making the FL jealous. This is especially apparent when his presence seems to all but vanish in between, frankly, I haven't seen him serve any other purpose at all other than a means to make the FL jelly. This not only contrasts the otherwise slow pace of the novel but is somewhat uncomfortable to read.

This is a preliminary rating, as there aren't that many chapters actually translated. If, after, 383 chapters the characters get better developed and the loose ends are tied up nicely then I might bring the rating up. As of now, even the main characters could do with more development and the side characters especially need more development. <<less
