The System for Mentoring Villain Bosses

Ever since Su Tian had transmigrated, she received a “Villain Bosses Mentoring System” that could automatically identify villainous bosses IN THE MAKING.

As for her missions, they were a little more complicated. For example:

Stopping the boy in her class from deviating onto the path of becoming a villain;

Turn the boy who was going to create a global financial crisis into Jack Ma of the new world;

Talk the strange girl working at the toy shop out of her spending habit, because she will be the cause of hyperinflation!

And the boy from the countryside that she ran into, please give up on developing bioweapons! Why don’t you focus on the Nobel Prize instead?

Just when Su Tian thought all the little villains were growing straight up into upstanding people under her “education of love”, the small villains brought about a big villain…

The young man has slender arms and legs and he cornered her into the restroom. He looked deeply into her eyes said, “I also need …”

Su Tian shuddered, “What… what do you need?”

“The education of love,” said the young man meaningfully!

Ten minute later, Su Tian… was educated.

System: This system is only responsible for identifying villains IN THE WORK. Matured villain are outside of its parameters.

Well, as someone who has read up until chapter 130-ish, I can tell you that this novel is something refreshing amidst many similar transmigration-themed novels out there in NU and it's definitely one of the more creative take on the entire 'villains-to-be' where the MC didn't hop out of the world after the mission is done.

But also, the farther I read, the more unsettled I become of the MC.

She's just so... Unsettling. I can't put any other word to describe her. It weirded me out because she's portrayed as a... more>> typical gentle do-goody MC since the very beginning of the story.

You'd feel that she's very likable and even a positive example of humanity. But

Spoiler

She apparently doesn't care about anyone else in the world she transmigrated over except from those villains-to-be that she was tasked to redeem. She has been thinking of them as missions since the start, not as people.

Also, she tended to take advantage of the... NPCs around her. They're the ones who solved the problems for her while she's only seen as the party who reports the situation.

[collapse]

Would've given this novel a 4.5 star before I realized how f*cked up the MC is. <<less

I'm making this post in defense of MC, because a lot of people find MC 'weird' or 'unsettling', which was the reason why I avoided this gem for a long period of time.

Spoiler
  • MC is described to be perfect from the start, and she actually is. Infact in every story about a genius or system supported protagonist, he always seems to detached from the world, and because MC's step-dad mentioned the fact, it became more obvious in this particular novel. (But trust me, all system protagonist feel the same), so it's not a new concept.
  • This novel also differs from other system novels, because the system never gave out punishments, so MC helped the villains at her own pace. This gives way more freedom to both MC as well as the villains' characters, because in most novels of the system tasks make it feel like a one-way transaction for MC, you-helped-me-once-I'll-repay-you situation, and the other person then just fades away. The side characters in such novels feel like tools to upgrade MC.
  • If a person sees their benefactor as their lifeline, it doesn't mean that the MC has to reciprocate these feelings in exact same way. Most of the time, MC just guided the villains to the right path at the right time, and that was all it was needed for them because MC can't and shouldn't spoon-feed them forever. They are humans with their own thought process and have right to make decisions for themselves. Still, she did have friendship with all the villains till the end, and didn't expect anything in return.
  • In a future chapter, MC decides to stay in this world and makes a deal with the system, so that means she had an option of going back before, so even if she appeared detached it was justified (The only detachment I felt was when she rejected ML previously).
  • I also think that the main idea behind this story was to show that Villains aren't born, but situations make them, and sometimes a single flicker of hope/kindness (who is the MC in this case) can completely change the course of someone's life.

Main story

Loved the concept...

Especially the villains and the background stories made me tear up

This book is ideal if you are bored with the same concept stories spinned in different ways

As for the side stories would have loved more character growth and chapters

Spoiler

the villains turn out great but I think they lost a bit of character in the story because the unreservedly trusted the female lead

It's refreshing to read a transmigration with a system that doesn't do world-hopping. She actually stayed in one world and helped the villain bosses to be around her. Every scene is so cute! With Xi Yun, Liu Kaiyan, You Pinyan, etc. It stung every time I read about their hardship and their original plot. It makes me angry and sad for them. I love how her family loves her even her scum father. It is satisfying to see how they helped their selves to rise with her guiding them. She... more>> doesn't manipulate them to do this or that but she made them have their own choice. The people around her are heart-warming and no drama. The ML is super adorable! Everytime he wants to approach her but was always rejected is funny. And when he talks to Nemo about its Mother (MC). He never gave up even if he gets rejected. And that one part when he was really, really, jealous and do something bad broke my heart. The extras are funny. Especially when both husbands are jealous because their wives are CP.

The novel is good. Refreshing. No drama. Adorable. Although I think the author forgot about Wang Ruexue (?) Su Tian's friend. She wasn't included in the endings.

I forgot to mention, MC's kinda weird. There is something about her that I can't point out. Sometimes I feel she doesn't have any feelings. It feels like she doesn't have a heart. Sure, she's kind and shows the she's compassionate but there's this feeling. She doesn't feel real or human. <<less

Okay, so first off, the MC (Su Tian) is just a regular person, albeit somewhat calm.

She’s not nearly as insensitive in the first 58 chapters.

However!!!

... more>> The reason for 1 star and why the novel is garbage is the s*upid mail lead Yu Cai who creepily follows MC, stalking her for a bit and talking to a clownfish that MC looked at.

This final ML is absolute garbage and the author does their best to put them in after chapter 54 in the dumbest way possible by having a “mysterious” teenager show up who is being taken care of by the Ji guy interested in Mc’s mother. Novel was fine up to here but now devolves into s*upid ML’s “we’ve met before” and “why doesn’t she look at me.” Why the heck is such a creepy and annoying person the fated male lead that MC marries and has a son with. Garbage.

I'd advise new readers to skip to CH54 and see if they can stomach this annoying whiny ML to see if they will like the novel or not. MC slowly falls to pieces after this, not being able to solve her evil Su family on her own nor figuring out what to do with her life.

tldr: novel becomes garbage with entry of ML and MC becomes damsel in distress. Bad. <<less

    • Things I liked
  1. It wasn't a quick : save the villain, be nice to him, he loves me ? Okay, let's go and forget about him. The journey was slow and seeing the villains with their unique personalities just hanging out with FL was heartwarming.
  2. I really liked You Pinyan, I found her so cute.
  3. The villains backstory was very heart wrenching.
  4. The FL didn't just fly in and save them from all their problems rather she was like a helping hand who guided them through the problems while the cuties solved their... more>> problems through their own intellect or talent or hard work.
    • Things I didn't like
  1. I just know I'll feel so bad when she chooses someone because they already have such deep feelings for her. I want them to fall in love with other people and not just keep pining over the FL one-sidedly.
  2. Other readers have pointed it out. Although I don't find the FL unsettling or weird, I think the author focused so much on the villains and their story and how they come together that they forgot that Su Tian is the FL. We don't know much about her prsonality or motivations or her thoughts. She feels very unfamiliar unlike the baby villains. She's also very unrealistic because being surrounded by flawed characters, she's shown to be exactly perfect, succeeding in everything with very little effort.

Translation is good. Story is promising. I do want to know more...

I'm still quite at the beginning (translator's chapt 19). Unlike darkel above, I do feel like she cares for the characters around her. Her mum, her friend... Some not deeply yet because she doesn't know them.

At first, I was quite excited when I saw that it's updated quite frequently. But just take note that the translator divides one chapter into 3-4 parts. Each part is quite short.

So the story at 163 chapters in the original will probably be about... more>> 500 "chapters" when translated. <<less

Hello, I am also writing this review in defense of the MC. I think she is quite kind to those who are not 'baby villains'. She is clever and solves problems calmly. It is also very refreshing to see that the jealous-female-classmates trope is not used for once. The female lead is not slapping faces left and right with ungodly underhand means, as of right now, her 'justice' is pretty acceptable for the level of severity.

So far, this has been one of my all time favourites amongst the many rebirth-system... more>> stories. I really hope you will read this. The translations have no problem; very easy to read (at least for my standards :)) I'm very thankful for the Translators who decided to pick this up. <<less

Like several other reviewers pointed out, the MC is very... unsettling.

The position she takes on in life is that of the benevolent god that nudges the correct events along, but all with minimal investment in the actual outcomes of the "npcs" that exist in the world. It feels very much like the attitude someone takes towards NPC sims they aren't very invested in: amused, but only mildly so. Considering all the emotions the characters around her go through, it casts a very dark shadow on everything she does. Her support... more>> comes off as fake and lacking genuine feelings while all the villains see her as their lifeline. Unsettling really isn't severe enough of a word to describe her.

As for the story contents itself, if you completely ignore the mc's attitude, it's a pretty much the standard "people on the brink of society get pulled back through the loving embrace of perfect MC." Each villain has their own arc and way in which MC has helped them and, as a result, how they slowly grow to worship her.

On some level it's cute, but with the way MC is, I almost feel like I'm watching people join a cult... only without the negative consequences of a cult, so.... it's okay? Either way, I'm not sure I can bring myself to read anymore of these chapters.

The chapters are rather short, however, so getting through 60 something chapters didn't take very long. <<less

Ok, so, I've seen a lot of comments on the FL being either disturbing (in that she is too perfect), mary sue-ish, or some who have really found her refreshing, interesting etc. I guess I'm sitting on the side of, yeah, this is definitely a mary sue character with literally no faults. Now... the question is, does this make for a bad novel because of it?

No, not really. Tbh, I feel like the author does a really good job of blending the FL into the background. I'm not sure if... more>> that was intentional or not, but to me, the FL is really forgettable. She's more the force that nudges people (the villains) to do better things, or choose different paths. I wouldn't call it a: she meets the villain, fixes their probelms, BOOM = HE. More like, we get to see why the villains become villains, what drove them to become like this, and the steps the FL takes in order to drive the story in the other direction.

If you're here for that kind of slow build, different villains, different problems, different solutions. Then yeah, read it, go ahead. Keep in mind I dropped this at Ch91, so this is how far I've gotten. Also: this isn't so much multiple world transmigration btw, this is literally FL collecting a bunch of villains, helping them, and making a sort of family, all in the same world.

If you're here for some good yandere romance, with multiple villains, well...I'm sorry my fellow thirsty reader, but you will be sadly disappointed. You're not alone, I was also hoping for that kind of story as well.... <<less

To chime in on the MC issue (which seems to be dominating the reviews lol), after thinking about it for a while, my conclusion was:

She feels like a white lotus that never turns to the dark side.

In other words, the whole time it feels like she's acting for someone/thing but her façade never gets ripped back. She never exhibits any negative emotion (she's never annoyed, irritated, frustrated, impatient, revolted, scathing, arrogant...). The only "negative" emotion she shows is anger and that is only in the form of righteous anger.

Anyway,... more>> for the rest of the story: I like the "villain"'s redemptions and the struggles they face. There is not really one moment when they are "set free" from their past as if they had drunk a forgetfulness potion but instead they make conscious efforts to move on and become better people.

From what I've read (apparently the FL's character changes for the worse after ch 58?) there is no reason for the FL's character to stop you from reading this, she just feels so... plastic? A bit like Barbie haha <<less

I absolutely adore this novel. The MC is calm and nice hearted. The ML seems cute. Overall, the problems they face are very realistic and MC gives reliable solutions, not too over the top.

I really liked the novel to the middle, maybe 2/3s of the novel. The MC and the relationships she develops with the reformed ‘villains’ are very cute. But surprisingly I found the ML bland and kinda of boring.

The plot towards the end didn’t develop to where I thought it would go, but that doesn’t mean it went anywhere really interesting. It kinda doesn’t climax at all and resolves quietly.

For example ... more>>

the MC and her villains talk a lot about building an amus**ent park/aquarium, and I thought the writer will show the process of building the park and establishing it or expanding it. Instead after the MC’s mother bought the land, it’s not really brought up again until the mention that they had built it and one of her villains was running it safely and it was successful.

It felt like a plotline that never went anywhere.

However, the first part is very good. And although the ending felt ‘meh’ to me, I still liked reading it. <<less

I got hooked for the early story but near the ending the story become a little bit boring. ML issue only written at the end for 2-3 chapters, not much exposure about his villainess.

From the start it tells about how MC save and inspired other villains and they become her followers. Some way is good some is no brainer. And the villain's family which is the true villain in this novel just disappeared without further story like Liu Yukai's parent or Xi Yun's father.

Some said MC is not normal just... more>> like other problematic child but there's no further story about it. She also has nightmare about her last life near the end of story but also no further explanation. Seems like a lot of open branch.

Overall can read MTL if you can endure a lot of name got translated. It's a good novel to pass time. <<less

So far indeed adorable! MC is coolheaded and semi-detached but I wouldn't say she's genuinely cold or doesn't care for other people. But I really don't know who the ML is!!! Has he or hasn't he shown up yet??

Note that every chapter is subdivided into many parts, so if you want a good binge wait a while.

Sadly, I agree with other reviews about the MC. She is the protagonist but it doesn't feel like it. She seems unfamiliar and flat in some way, like her character wasn't defined so she could serve her main purpose: to be a plot device. She's a good problem solver but that's pretty much all I can say about her. She has 0% likeability on her own. She's a people magnet and supposedly everyone likes her for being nice and pretty but even at the final chapters you end up wondering... more>> if she ever comes to care about her friends or she's still just doing it for the mission.
Spoiler

She seems to treat people like pets in her mind. Her 'care' is based on this kid being pitiful, her mother being a helpless dodder-flower, the ML being cute, ect. Then all of sudden she goes crazy about reviving a stranger girl who died in front of her which is kind of weird taking in account her past performance...

[collapse]

The reformed villains are great, they truly draw you in their story and make you root for them, hoping they'll be able to solve their difficulties. They are great characters with interesting backstories.

I liked it until the story started to revolve around the romance of the MC's mother and MC's romance with ML. I got bored and frustrated then because their dynamics aren't to my liking at all. Romance here is all about 'love at first sight'. ML doesn't seem to have a reason for liking her apart from her looking 'warm' and 'bright' (so, the heroine filter).
Spoiler

She said clearly she didn't like him but then he just couldn't hold back his feelings and started to get pushy... I thought MC would get mad or distance herself, or at least as she had done previously, confront him and discuss some limits. But, nope. She was angry for 0.5 seconds then she went 'oh, he's so cute, so shy after forcing a kiss, whatever, I won't care about it then!'. That's the dynamic all the way until the HE. He does inappropiate, forceful, cruel or bad things because he 'loves her soooo much' or he was 'jealous', she feels angry for an instant and then goes 'forget it, he's cute. do whatever you want'.

[collapse]

The ML feels like a bunch of lines describing a character: handsome, genious, weird, likes fishes, etc. He matches the MC because he doesn't feel real or well developed either.

5/5 for the reformed villains. 3/5 for the MC. 1/5 for the romance. I'd recommend you read until the end of You Pinyan's plot and then drop it, unless you like that kind of unexplainable, brain dead romance. <<less
