How pitiful is a life without love?

In every happy ending, there is always a male character who either meets his demise or spends the rest of his life alone.

Maybe he regards feelings as playthings, or maybe he doesn’t care. When the whole world turns its back on him, will there be someone… someone who turns their back on the world, to take his hand?

I love you.

Your dreams,

Your strengths,

and your flaws.

These are the stories of said male characters and their special someones.

You know that giddy feeling you get when you read something so sweet and wholesome that you just can't help but want to slam your face into your pillow and squeal? That's what I did while reading this novel. I've read my share of romance novels and indulged in a great deal of fluff; however, never once had I squealed or felt any warm feelings well up in my chest. I'm someone who reads fluffy romance novels simply because I want to read but hate meaningless misunderstandings and drama with jealous 2D side characters. When I was looking for a new project to translate and stumbled across The Lover's Prattle, I didn't expect to get as invested as I did. For the first time, I fangirled over something other than my favorite KPOP idols.

One thing that confused me greatly when I started to read was that the author had labeled this novel as a quick transmigration, but there was hardly any mention of a System or Missions, while the name of the female lead --Qingruo-- remained the same throughout all the different worlds. Then I went to check out the author's other novels and found out that all of the author's female leads go by Qingruo, regardless of relation. That's when I figured that the name was probably special to the author, and thus she uses it in every one of her writings.

There are times when the FL is hinted to be a quick transmigrator, but they're so scarce that it's practically impossible to determine if the character Qingruo is the same person throughout or if there's a different FL in each arc, each named Qingruo. That's why I wrote in the summary that each arc should be treated as an individual story, with individual male leads and female leads. That would give you the best reading experience.

Spoiler

The first arc may dissuade some readers because the ML is a notorious player and even sugar daddy, but don't worry, it's still all fluff and no drama.

[collapse]

Despite the shortness of the arcs (6~10 chapters each), I personally feel like the romance in each is way more wholesome than any of the 100+ chaptered romance novels I've ever read. I'm so tired of the stories where the romance becomes complete sh*t after the couple gets together, but in TLP, because the arcs are short, you will only read about the most important milestones in each relationship. The romance doesn't drag, and the stories aren't repetitive either.

And did I mention that the arcs are mostly written in the (third person) POVs of the male leads?

Honestly, I'm not good at summing up why I like something and putting those reasons in a review because I'm more of a rambling fangirl, but for this novel, I tried.

A novel filled to the brim with sugar and endless fluff!!. The Arcs are short and cute.

So if you're looking for a cute, sweet and fluff filled novel where the ML spoils the MC then this novel is it!. There is a dark arc in there somewhere as well... yeah I'll leave it at that.

My favourite Arc in the general Arc, it's probably one of the most shortest Arc, about 7 or 8 chapters.... more>>
Spoiler

the ML in this Arc is a general who decides to get rid of the emperor and become the emperor himself *squeals* after he becomes the emperor he makes the MC the emperor, he gives her a yellow emperor's gown embroidered with dragons everything and takes her to the court for the morning sessions

[collapse]

It doesn't seem to have those irritating side character, well till where I've read.

Anyway it's a definitely a good read only I wish some of the Arcs could be bigger but it's still an amazing novel. <<less

The story has an overall fluffy tone. However, there are some messed up dark undertones that completely ruin the story.

The best way to describe it is simple. The story suffers from a protagonist centered morality, for example what the ML and FL do ... more>>
Spoiler

•Locking the FL in the room after they quarrelled

•FL and ML raising their daughter so badly that she becomes a tryant

•ML threatening his own daughter and emotionally abusing her into behaving.

•FL does absolutely nothing to help him in financial matter (even though she can do more) even making the ML overwork himself to support her.

•FL is bland, lazy and just wants to spend her target's money. Love feels like it's only the ML who's interested. FL has nothing to lose but ML has everything to lose.

[collapse]
is considered good because they are the protagonists, if the villain, or bad guy we hate were to do this, it would cause an outrage.

Needless to say, I'm dropping this. <<less

Sooooo....... GOOD?

READ THIS! READ THIS! READ THIS!

These are the love stories of said male characters and their counterparts.

General x Empress-to-be √

CEO x Actress √

Playboy x Playgirl √

Reborn ML x Transmigrator √

Demon Lord x Holy Maiden √

Yandere x Vampire √

And more √

NOTE:

Although the author labeled this as a quick transmigration novel, it is far from one. Each arc can be read as a short standalone story.

Ehh.... the first arc is a mediocre story at best with little to no character development and no real plot development either.

FL is boring, a lackluster actress with no discerning personality. She seems perfect -- gentle, polite, intelligent, beautiful, a little feisty, can stand up for herself. But like.... she has no hobbies or goals.... she's not good at anything besides being a housewife... "standing up for herself" only goes as far as being mad for a little bit... she's just not interesting at all. She has no friends, pets,... more>> family, enemies to spice up the story until ML comes along -- it's like she was made in a factory and placed to wait for the ML and revolve her whole life around him. The "villains" in this arc are the past girlfriends of the ML but even they are knocked down before they can even try. No conflict, no interesting characters, the ML turns out to be just as much of a control freak as Black belly boss stereotypes go.
Spoiler

When she is rightfully angry that he called her a plaything and said many hurtful things to her and tries to leave, he LOCKS HER in her room and tries to force her to go to a party with him. I'm tired of these s*upid plot points. I would have called the police if my SO locked my in a room for trying to leave. She just forgives him and accepts his bland and unconvincing apology where he can't even name what exactly he did wrong, then cooks food for him like a 20th century housewife.

[collapse]
The ML has huge anger issues, and mistreats everyone around him. He has no respect for anyone especially women and the people who work for him. 1st arc not worth reading if you're someone who cares about character and plot development tbh.

2nd arc, though unfinished, reeks of child grooming and obsession lol I won't be returning here for a while <<less

Just a review for Arc 1:

Honestly, as far as modern stories go, this first arc is pretty good. Very little drama, no misogynistic depictions of female villains, nor is there dumb relatives scheming the freaking r*pe of someone like this is some ancient drama. It's more of a calm story btwn 2 mostly mature individuals.

However, while the ML is the true protagonist tbh and is quite interesting for an ML, this renders the FL (Qingruo) really... boring. To me, she seemed too perfect, and I was waiting for character development,... more>> like for example as they fall in love, the ML since it's mostly from his POV, realizes she's not as perfect as he thought she was and he still loves her anyway.... but that doesn't really happen. Instead, QR just seems to stay the same throughout the story. So idk, it just felt like QR was this ideal woman, but it just left her as really boring and empty imo.

Still, despite my criticism of the FL, this story is a nice read on a cozy afternoon - it's just that, a cozy read, and something to read btwn more dramatic and well, deeper, stories. Because one thing I can't really say about this story is that it has depth, barely so tbh. But even then, it's still a cute and simple modern story, something that's rare in this genre - a genre I'm used to avoiding in CNovels because of the aforementioned clichés that are even less justifiable in a modern setting. <<less

I came here from the forum where someone was looking for the title of this novel and I did not regret it! I've only read the first story so far and boy oh boy, it was pure joy! This is a gem hidden beneath all these haystack of novels!

Characters: 5/5

Story: 5/5

If you're tired of reading face-slapping novels, this is a good recommendation. It's a smooth and good paced story that centers around the FL changing the ML for the better. There are no big time villains or intricate schemes to think too deeply over and what you're just given is just this sweet tender story between them. <<less

Arc 1 is a heart-warming love story. It shows that love can be simple and kind. It's both love and friendship. It reminds me how wonderful it is to come home and have someone embrace us with solace and comfort after a long day of work. However it falls flat from the next arc. I don't know if this is because there's no new flavor in the story or because the translator changes. Most likely it's the later. So, solid 5 stars for first arc and 3 stars for the... more>> rest, hence 4 stars. <<less

I know to it may be too soon to write the review with only the 1st arc finished.... but this one arc was so refreshing... without any green tea bit**es.. any typical cliches... misunderstanding... miscommunication... and so called other angst.. Just leaving you with a sweet cozy heart warming feeling.I bet this short read will and have left most of the readers with a satisfied feeling... and most of all.. the translation was really good..

So basically recommending this novel for little mood fixing☺?

Descriptions and opinions for each arc.

Arc 1
Summary

Spoiler

The story follows the love between a playboy CEO and a mediocre actress. The CEO is struggling to come to terms with the fact that his ex-wife is in a happy and fulfilling marriage. He is a serial sugar daddy to struggling actresses and this is how he meets the FL. Slowly growing dependent on the care she provides, he realises he loves her.

[collapse]

Thought

Spoiler

As the translator notes, it's interesting to see this character - the rich playboy - who is often the secondary male lead, come into his own and take centre stage.

However.

The FL is a non-character. She's not talented at acting - why pursue this career? - and has struggled for five years - why only now accept the ML's "favour"? There's no sense of desperation or ambition that would explain her actions. She continues with her conscientious care and worms her way into the ML's heart, but it never feels like she's placed him in her heart. Until the end she continues to act like she did when she first met him, caring, but distanced. Given the ML's character at the beginning, it's hard to see how anyone could fall for him...

[collapse]

Arc 2

Summary
Spoiler

A re-born genius in pharmaceuticals, who holds a deeply pessimistic world view and wants to end the world with a zombie virus, slowly falls in love with a young girl through the continued acts of gentle, kind and generous love she gives him.

[collapse]
Thoughts
Spoiler

His love starts with the typical "don't really love her but can't stand letting anyone hurt her including myself." He strives not only to protect her physically, but to ensure that his actions will not cause her needless pain - be that through protecting her from gossip by not staying over at her family home, taking pains to get to know her parents, or forging a positive reputation for himself. While his love borders on the obsessive side, it's on the less creepy end of the spectrum.

She, on the other hand, is a transmigrator. It's hinted that she was "sent out" by some kind of organisation, as she mentions a "bureau" that she "won't return to until she completes her mission (?) ". It was so vaguely alluded to that it might as well not have been included, and actually detracted from the story. While I never felt that her love or kindness in and of itself was a show or front she put on, it did feel like she wouldn't necessarily of helped him or treated him as she did if it has not been for her transmigration and future knowledge of his (past) life. In these cases, sincerity is compromised by future knowledge.

[collapse]

Arc 3

Summary
Spoiler

The tyrannical master of the demon sect wipes out a powerful sect overnight. Unable to defeat him, the other sects offer up female cultivators in hopes of a ceasefire. Intrigued by one of the women sent to him, the demon falls in love while also slowly losing his cultivation forcing himself and the woman to run for their lives.

[collapse]
Thoughts
Spoiler

As hackneyed as my summary makes it sound, there were some one interesting point: in the middle of the story the ML was so weak and had regressed so much with his cultivation that the FL was way more powerful and had to defend him (beauty saving the hero). The rest... is as hackneyed as it sounds.

She asks him a s*upid question and he finds her "interesting", ergo their love blossoms; she is so caring, with clear eyes. There's also a rather disturbing part where, because he loses his cultivation, he becomes a six year old child, in mentality as well as physically.

All this might have been forgivable if it were executed well, but alas, even here the story falls down. I'm not sure if it was because of the author or the translator (I'm inclined to the former), but this story really does not flow. There are huge leaps that leave you thinking you missed a chapter, the premise of the ML's cultivation which is the MAIN CAUSE FOR CONFLICT is not explained until the very end so the reading experience is similar to trying to find your way out of a maze, blindfolded.

Personally, I think this is the worst one so far.

Not my favorit, but I get a cozy feeling from reading it.

The first arc is a bit confusing for me, like I understand the story but it confuses me because I don't really see them fall in love. It was a bit BOOM calm love. Yes CALM love, I can't described it in another way.

My stars was pure for the 1st story. I may read the 2nd story later. But anyway...

The 1st story was so Magnificent!!!

The character growth of the ML... And the relationship development between him and FL... Splendid!

... more>> Our FL was saint... It made me want to know her pov so badly!!!

She's no Mary Sue, but she's definitely Saint for handling her relationship so well with ML in her way.

ML doesn't force her, and she doesn't demand anything to him. The unique mutual understanding and patience...

I can only say I may can act like her 80% of her attitude toward the ML, but 20% of the rest probably too hard headed and less impatient and too hot headed...

She's Absolutely Perfect for him! And he gave her his Love to the deepest part of his Soul for her and I LOVE HIM FOR THAT!!!

Our ML is flawed but his character growth and Love was Perfection to me!!!

And then the Epilogue, the execution with their child... His teaching was ANOTHER AMAZING SCENE AND I LOVE IT TO THE BONE!!!

Soooo Good, okaaay!!! I'm Absolutely Satisfied with it! <<less

I actually forgot what's the content of this particular book because after reading this I went ahead and read other works from the same author. Author uses the name "Qingruo" for several novels so it feels like the world-hopping for this story did not stop. It feels like it was just continued in other novels.

Of course with world-hopping, not every arc can meet the standard. So that's why I deducted 1 star. Overall, the reading experience is 4 star worthy.

I reallllyyyy like it.

Some arcs are really rushed and confusing though like the third one, the demon world, and I feel like the author kinda forget the plot of the whole story lmao?? I'm pretty sure it's in the QT genre and Qingruo is supposed to help the second male lead find happiness and love BUT it only really happened in the first arc. The first arc has a backstory and the girl he liked but didn't get in the end whilst in the second arc, bad things just kept... more>> happening until he became the 'villain' but there's no male/female lead of the world. The third arc is extremely confusing lol... Very cute and fluffy but it didn't really make sense. The fourth arc is also kinda confusing, and the romance is pretty rushed, but it's better than the third world, and it's still VERY CUTE.

My favourite so far is definitely the first arc because everything so fluid and calm then it's the fourth one because the MC and ML have a lot more personality.

I feel like you have to be in a certain mood to fully enjoy this cos I know most people don't read QT genres with a female lead for fluffy and cutesy sh*t and are here for the face-slapping and drama but this novel has literally none of that lol. <<less

The story itself isn't great. There are many loopholes and there are one too many things that the author decided to not mention or make it vague--extremely vague-- and it kills the story. The intention of making it a 'soft' story fails because it's too rushed, way too vague, and it's so jumbled up.

The first two arcs were enjoyable but there's nothing outstanding or memorable about it. The third arc is just a mess and feels like the author took one too many breaks when writing. The tidbits were so... more>> disconnected, that you don't even get a good feel for the development of their relationship or the world. Sure, it's quick transmigration and the author usually just wraps the chapter fairly quickly but this time around, they did a poor job of establishing a relationship between the two, world and character development, and you, as a reader, don't feel any sense of urgency in their moment of 'crisis'. The fluff also fails to be conveyed in some arcs and in some, it's very sweet. In the end, the book is a below-average read. The plot holes were too numerous and most novels usually leave an okay taste or are unforgettable, this one was just bland. ;] If you want to read this novel, probably go in with more than an open mind as there's a lack in common sense in the story.

Spoiler

Things that are are questionable in each arc:

Arc 1: The male lead 'doting' and 'spoiling' their daughter rotten and then she gets taught a harsh lesson by her father, who was the one who had been 'spoiling' the sh*t out of her.

Arc 2: What was the point in giving the Xu Family money, when the ML was just going to exact 'revenge' for them bullying him. I didn't see a point. (Though, I think that this arc was the best one.)

Arc 3: Everything in there, from the ML to the FML to the world. There were one too many terms in the novel, as it's cultivation, that was just being spouted. I.g. The ML having to 'tame' himself. That is apparently something that he just has to do and the author gave a very very very vague and non-connective paragraph or so about it. It's just poorly done--especially with the numerous time skips and change of scene, you aren't even sure what's going on in each chapter or if it's going to continue from the previous chapter. I was confused about what was even going on as one moment she's talking about his cultivation and the next they're in a cave and some bullsh*t later, about them hiding out in caves and her father finding her and him. ;]

Spoiler

for example, in the reincarnated ML and transmigrated FL arc, the ending was so abrupt and the new arc began just like that and it made me so confused that I thought I missed a few chapters. I think that it was a pity cause I actually enjoyed that arc a lot.

[collapse]

however I did smiled a lot when reading this novel because of the fluff and the characters. Totally my cup of tea.

also one of the thing that caught my attention the most while reading this novel, I noticed that the name of the FL are the same in every arc and it made me feel something.

it’s probably just me but the fact that the author uses the same name every time made it feel like the author is writing a love letter to the person with that name (Qing Ruo) and it’s hard to guess what that name means to the author but it gave off a nice impression.

overall, I think this novel is worth it. 4.5 stars to author (still thinking about that one arc abrupt ending), 5 stars to translator. <<less

Just for Arc 1, I could say it is an interesting slice of life story. Of course, in this story you would like the ML. It is from his point of view afterall. Hence, any development you expect from the FL cannot be seen at all. Like what has gone thru her mind at the beginning, what was her end goal, if she didn't need the resources then why agree to being a kept woman of the ML, etc. But despite this, what you could actually see was the love... more>> of the author to Qing Rou. As if the author would like to give everything and all good to Qing Rou. All of the author's heroine are named Qing Rou. How sweet is that? And the way the author wrote about Qing Rou, as if cautious of her being offended.. Isn't it heart-rending? I feel the author's love and devotion to Qing Rou. It is like a diary in the mask of a novel. <<less
