TL;DR At the bottom

Where to start? Well, I guess I begin by giving a brief summary of the series. Japanese Guy is summoned to another world. Japanese Guy is mu*derous martial artist. Japanese Guy does exactly what the series is named for, and slaughtered everyone. That’s basically the entire story, with some filler bits attached to it here and there. If you thought that the romance tag would effect anything, then like me you were dead wrong. You shouldn’t go into this weird thinking you’ll see any romance, or any... more>> classic isekai stuff. The reason being is that he’s too busy killing people, there’s just desire for romance when you can stab anyone you want! I originally went into this series with the hopeful thought that it would be different than the classic isekai genre, and it technically is. The only problem is that the last arc (which went from somewhere around c120 onwards) is quite dull. Originally it was just a rinse and repeat type series, which was kinda fine since it had some funny moments in it, but this latest arc is pushing for development and the story itself is having none of it. I’d say the blame rest solely on the way the author has designed the main character to be a complete war hungry psychopath, which is fine for a while but gets boring and annoying fast. If you don’t like characters who only desire killing, then this series is definitely not for you. But if you like great descriptions of grotesque violence, then wow you’ve found the perfect series for you! I personally think that your average reader would enjoy reading up to chapter 120 or so, and then get bored of the most recent arc like I did and try to drop it but instead finish up that arc since they are extremely stubborn.

Anyway, TL;DR:

Main character is a unlikeable psychopath who likes killing, which is what makes up nearly every single arc in this series. If you like it, you won’t get bored up to c120 or so, if you don’t, then I’d avoid this series and go read something else. <<less

Honestly I personally like the emotionless mu*der loving MC. It's just that what would be a mediocre 3 star story drops down to 2 because it's full of patriotic Japanese bullshit. Muh katanas can cut steel, superior Japanese martial arts, Japanese food best, etc... while at the same time spitting on their "medieval European" counterparts (author got it all from JRPGs, basically has nothing to do with real medieval Europe).

Master samurai OP MC is transferred to another world and his only goal is to create capable warriors so that he can fight them. How does he do this? Plunge the world into chaos and war so that people must become more skilled to survive.

The MC is capable. He has no interest in morals, pleasures of the flesh, money, power, or anything other than a good battle. People call him a psychopath just because he kills without a second thought, but he doesn't have any erratic thinking, he stays consistent... more>> throughout the entire story, never swaying from his goal. Really one of the best MC's I've come across.

There is also an extremely yandere s*ave girl that follows him around. <<less

MC is a straight homicidal maniac who's only character motivation is killing (strong) people - but really he'll kill anyone. Fine, we can roll with that right? But then the story is just a mess of problems.

1. The setting is laughable to a point of unreality. The people he is killing are supposedly humans but they're just SO DUMB. And it's funny because the author is working off this typical WN template of a world (with adventurers guilds and mustache twirling evil nobles and whatnot) but then expects us to... more>> swallow that no one has ever thought-up a tactic more complex than 'mass the guys up in a line and charge'. And the inconsistency is glaring, like how can you have a society where people can and do wage wars but every military commander in the history of ever was moron? You can't have 'evil-conniving nobles who are constantly scheming below the surface' and also 'idiots whose only ability is to tell a guy with a spear to go poke someone'. The setting is filled with all these seemingly mutually exclusive elements because the author started with this generic fantasy world template and then just adjusted everyone to moron-level so the MC could seem really smart - without giving any consideration to how unreal is makes the setting feel. Why is there an adventure's guild but not a merchants guild? So MC can fire off a quip about it duh.

2. MC is really poorly characterized because he never faces any sort of adversity. All of his interactions with other characters are 'Help me or die' only what sort of help and for how long changes. Because he's mega awesome and strong nothing can challenge him so he just wanders around killing whatever. It's a story more or less completely without tension because only side characters can die and you don't really care about them because - remember the premise now - all MC does is want to kill things. No adversity = no possibility for growth, all we have to go on about MCs character is his internal monologue which is always just 'I sure like killing things'. In the story I have read thus far he has never shown any degree of giving a sh*t about any of the other characters except to lecture them a bit before he kills them sometimes. And when he gets flustered talking to a girl once or twice. Because you have to write for your audience I guess?

3. So the setting sucks, the MC is boring with no possibility of growth or change, really the only thing left to carry it is the fight scenes and the side characters. I skim the fights so no comment there (he always wins remember) and the side characters seem to mostly exist to show off how cool MC is, or to reappear a bunch until you get slightly invested in them so they can be killed.

This came out a bit harsher than I intended but whatever it's an ok way to kill an afternoon if you can find it in you to overlook the various gaping plot-holes and just enjoy the premise of 'there's a really strong guy who wants to kill strong people in a world of people made of tofu (including their brains) '. <<less

While I am all for the ruthless MC's, it seems that this novel uses it as an excuse for poor plot execution, and lack of writing ability. The entire first volume is fairly rushed, I don't feel attached to any of the characters, and over all terrible. Clearly, even though the author tries to have the MC have some logic incorporated into his brain, it is very illogical and incomprehensible. He contradicts himself too often and has a very flawed personality.

This novel is ridiculously good. The MC is overpowered, and he doesn't hesitate to use it. He is not naive idiot like 99% of the novels out there, he kills using his trained skills, body strengthening blessings from godA, blessed katana from godB, darkness magic from godC, and other japan medieval weapons he commissioned to be made.

There are also city building, army building, politics, backstabbing, assassinations, executions, and mu*der.. No, slaughter, a lot of people are killed. MC can still die from normal attacks, he's like a super samurai but can't do massive AoE attacks like in To-deprive-a-deprived-person.

Important characters die, even MCs allies.

What I like most here is that MC does not discriminate between killing women.
Spoiler

There's a chapter were he conquered a city and demanded the surrender of the Adventurers Guild based on said city.

While having the discussion, a young typical hero-esque male adventurer in golden armor came inside, accompanied with two female companions; an archer and a mage. The male adventurer started spouting stuff like justice and then challenged MC.

MC asked if any of the adventurers present has the same sentiments as the hero-esque guy, half of them showed support.

The hero-esque guy then drew his sword, which MC took as a sign of aggression. MC lunged towards hero-esque guy, in the direction of the female mage, smashed her head into the wall (skull is crushed, brain matter leaking out), then MC decapitated the female archer. The hero-esque guy was in shock seeing his companions die, MC took that chance and liberated hero-esque guys head from his shoulders.

He then proceeded to slaughter all the adventurers that showed support for hero-esque guy.

Mediocre at best.

Plot: the initial setting made this novel stands out from the rest of JP cliche. As the story progress, our MC ultimate objective becomes killing everyone who stand in his way. This is a good point since his objective was clearly defined.

Structure: Is a MESS. It seems that the author did not plan before hand. The story feels flat without any climax or significant events. The more I read, the more I felt my enthusiasm leaving. In addition, I felt the story just progressed too fast

Characters: Another mediocre.... more>> Most characters here lack depth. Either because the author was focusing on the massacre by MC or most characters were swallowed by the fast paced story. Hifumi was too engrossed in killing, Origa suddenly developed feelings for Hifumi and Kasha gradually got less and less screen time. In short, most characters are not memorable at all.

Writing: Okayish. Readable just like the majority of JP novels and suitable for your 3 minutes bed time story. The 3rd person omni-narrator point of view didn’t help much against lackluster action scenes and flat story. Still better than 1st point of view employed by many other harem novels.

In addition, the war scenes were epic-fail. Emotions and feelings of war wasn’t conveyed properly and lacking diversities. Most came from the view of an OP character which is our MC and it was boring.

In conclusion, once the novelty of this novel wears off, eventually you will be sick of MC killing spree. <<less

This story is addictivee. Quality could be better but despite rather twisted MC it is quite enjoyable LN.

"Summoned slaughter" is about a psychopath Hifumi who wanted to kill people but being lawful person couldn't follow his desires in our world. And luckily main character had a chance to be forcibly transferred to another world. He starts his adventures with mu*dering a god, a king and some knights. Later we start to understand that this action was more or less justified or rather understandable.

Readers may like the story as it is... more>> abundant with action so for me it was hard to stop to read it and go to sleep. I liked Hifumi interactions with Orsogrande princess. My favourite character in a story is Origa who reminds me Albedo from Overlord a bit (or maybe Harley Queen from Batman?).

Despite being very bloody and cruel "Summoned slaughter" is very light to reed as it is extremely naive. When Hifumi protects someone then this person becomes practically immortal. When someone opposes him then the one is presumed to be dead despite few exceptions left alive on purpose to create a world more amusing for Hifumi. There is a lot more unrealistic examples. City can be evacuated within few hours through one gate, new district of a city can be rebuilt within few days without its authorities knowing it, MC always knows what will happen and who is his enemy etc.

It is first time I read a story where main character is so invincible and generally better in everything then other world inhabitants. And it is caused by invisible hand of an author. Being 18 (?) years old Hifumi is master of much more then one martial arts. Knights do not know how to fight, politicians are unable to scheme etc. And it is first time when I lost my interest of MC and I preferred to read side stories. Following from one described the same way one sided slaughter to another may be interesting but not all the time.

There is a lot about politics, economy, country administration which I really liked. Hifumi is doing a lot of good things by creating a nation of happy people by using his modern knowledge. Generally his actions have a positive results despite his evil desires. And he kills only people who are able to fight as warriors, magicians or commanders. Hifumi does not care about a people but he is gentle to everyone who cannot fight. It is a shame that this actions do not follow his boring character which does not change (at least till chapter 110).

A lot of girls is attracted by main character but he cares only about killing. At about first 60 chapters of a story romance practically does not exists. But it is worth to wait. Later in a story romantic realationships become quite interesting and original. I do not know if a word "harem" is proper but there will be something like it.

There is one tragic element in a story but I did not shred one tear as it was artificial and easy to predict. My only thought about it was: "People do not behave like this". And you do not care when so many people is killed anyway.

It a shame the this LN is translated in average level. And because of it I had to ponder a lots of times to understand some dialogs or narration parts. In case of wrong words it is possible to change them in our mind on the fly but in case of wrong sentences it is difficult.

If you like action and you are immune to bloody description then you may like this story. If you looking for something more serious, realistic and with kindhearted MC then you may be disappointed. I continue to read this LN. <<less

Well, wouldn't say it's awesome or anything, but it was really useful at getting rid of the bad taste in my mouth that I got from reading a Japanese novel with a pansy, no balls generic MC that is too cowardly to do anything properly and seemingly pisses his pants everywhere while being generally incompetent in terms of combat.

So... Read this if you need a change of pace after trudging through typical Japanese novels with cowardly MC's? Either that or take the better option if you haven't read it, stuff... more>> like "Warlock of the magus world" would be a good idea, that one is far better, though it's a bit different since he doesn't mu*der people randomly for no reason and only acts rationally (WMW). <<less

A commonly seen review is that the MC is a psycho. While that's not really far from the truth, what I feel is that he's just a really frustrated talented martial artist in a peaceful world (modern Earth). So, when he's thrust in a world where killing is possible and common, he just goes for it. But he's not some heartless bastard. It's quite simple: "Don't oppose me and I won't kill you". And he's quite kind with the ones close to him, even if it is to develop his... more>> agenda (of a non-peaceful world). He genuinely seems to care for his people and after each chapter, despite all the blood and heads flying, I find it amazing to find out more and more about the MC. Really well-written and certainly deserves your attention, if you like ruthless MCs. <<less

The story is well-written, the narrative is generally engaging, and the pacing is usually spot on. The characters are portrayed consistently and show noticeable growth in both ability and personality. From a pure literary standpoint, "Summoned Slaughterer" has all the elements of an excellent story.

The only problem is the protagonist himself. He's not evil, but he's not good either; the issue is that he is an undeniable sociopath. He is completely disconnected from society's norms and morals, which in turn makes it difficult for the reader to understand or identify... more>> with him. This makes complete sense from the aspect of his character design, but it also makes him an extremely poor choice for a story's protagonist. His presentation either serves to derail the reader's attention as they loose track of the plot, or exhaust the reader as he or she forces themselves to follow the narrative despite the characters actions and thoughts. <<less

A magnificent story. Yes some people may disagree with the MC's way of thinking and the early parts were more or less killing extravaganza, but it generally changed later on and the final chapter, was an excellent way to end the series. To put a cherry on top, the queen even admitted that he still loved the MC. Also it has a sequel but I won't read it as it only tackles in the MC starting a killing spree again.

I dropped this novel.

I, contrary to other reviewers, don't care about a MC being evil just because he can, I enjoy it actually. The plot is good, world building is decent and etc etc etc. What made me drop this novel, and I don't know if its the translations or the raws, is that it reads like a f*cking acting script. I'll give an example of every dialogue between character in this novel: "We are doing this and that after going there" (MC) ; "That sounds good" (MC's companion). Its... more>> written exactly like that. After 60 chapters or so I just couldn't take it anymore <<less

There are a number of negative reviews about this series, and the reasons they rated it low are not wrong.

It started off with a reasonably fresh take on the 'broken MC' gets summoned to another world and I was enjoying it. But then, nothing happened. There would be a small amount of character development and then the developing characters would die.

However, I stuck with it on the basis of liking most of what Infinite Novel Translations has translated and it has gotten better. While characters are still dying (Although not... more>> nearly as fast), the world and character development has been ratcheting up, bringing the story back into my zone of interest. <<less

The Dexter of Light Novels (LN) ! I've loved this LN from the first chapter (now at chapter 66)
Spoiler

where the main character (MC) kills a god, and then travels to another world and starts killing people of lesser and lesser rank. The poetic image of the MC killing lesser and lesser ranked beings is quite strong and repeated throughout the series

[collapse]
. Would highly recommend this and have to anyone. The story progression is believable and exciting and a few times you'll be taken by surprise when you're rooting for a change in character or the survival of another but something different happens. 5 stars!

EDIT:

Story is taking a weird turn. Definitely dropped to a 4 star.

Spoiler

MC is turning into a chaotic evil villain forcing monsters to power up with experimental equipment while at the same time he goes off alone to the beastman kingdom, slaughters a bunch of animals hapazardly and then finds a kingdom of "knights". Slightly interested in the bear beastman going insane, but the story is starting to go overlord or RR Martin on me. Killing off characters and making the reader feel bad for the enemy is not really a good story move.

[collapse]

EDIT #2: Story is losing aspects that I was interested in and the MC is not developing as I thought he would. Killed off too many people and going on weird arcs. DROPPED just shy of 100 chapters!

like the others said, this story really refreshing and by far different from mainstream send to another world story. MC is not granted cheat power from any self-proclaim god (though he got divine katana), his power is obtained from his own hard labour, he got clear mind, and now wissy-wassy about his path. side characters also good, s*aves not line a b**ch in heat, and support character also have solid personality. This story is a different take on the Japanese summoned hero genre. The hero in this story just happens to be a lunatic that kills anyone hindering his enjoyment.

He killed the king responsible for making the princess summon him.

The premise of the story revolves around our hero trying to make everyone around him stronger and start conflicts to get them to kill. Everyone else besides the hero seems to be an idiot.

The ending was pretty disappointing and seems out of character which explains why the sequel to this story got dropped.

Our hero kills any body without batting an eye for the dumbest reason, but somehow, the female leads can plot and betray him without him killing them. It reeks of your typical beta Japanese MC.

The MC is the best martial artist/strongest person in our world by far or at least this is how our world gods reviewed him summoned to another world and given extra power by the gods he is mu*derous and since he kept himself docile in our world he decides to lash out completely in the other world searching to prefect the art of killing by killing and seeking to die in combat but he isn't homicidal just a hardcore battle to the death maniac after seeing that the other world... more>> isn't proficient in the art of war he decide to make the world into something like the sengoku era in Japan where endless fighting occurs while killing all those who resist him and inciting people to attack them in order to have a reason to kill them

I voted it 5 stars cause the MC has a well built character he stays pretty much the same

and what develops more is the side characters which is logical considering the MC character and his goal to change the world to his liking and not the other way around

keep that in mind that there are about only 3 life and death scenarios in the whole series
