Upon waking up, Ruan Xia had transmigrated into a webnovel that she had stayed up all night to finish reading. She had become the villain’s mother.

In the novel, after the death of her first husband, the original owner of the body had hooked up with a Mr. Perfect at the fastest possible speed. Worried and discontent that her son from her first marriage would become a burden on her, she heartlessly abandoned her son.

Having once held the best quality script and informed of future events, Ruan Xia looked at her still alive first husband as well as her future villain son. She sighed. She wanted to apply for a different script!

Pretty much your typical transmigration novel. Except that the male lead here is peculiar, in that, he is actually a rational human being with reasonable emotional responses. I kept c*cking my head to the side in surprise whenever he would reply to the FL in a mature and courteous manner, (making me melt in the process) wondering to myself why'd he go off script, didn't he know he's supposed to either :

1. Stay mute

2. Threaten fl

... more>> 3. Storm off

4. Sexually harrasse fl

5. Consciously misunderstand fl

But he does none of that, they actually act and behave like grown ass adults trying to work things out for their kid and I never wanted a man to get his happy ending more!! <<less

It was good at first. The premise was promising. The thing that got me this far was that the couple was distant and ignored each other. I'm into antagonistic stuff. Anyways the 1 thing that cut off my amus**ent was the son. Having a smart child is cool. But... This kid is so fake. Like.. Imagine the Twitter photo or a Facebook post of a parent having a conversation with their kids and the kids says something an adult would say... Of course it's fake. Kids, even the smartest or... more>> most clever, would not say the shxt that these kids say. No kids talk about divorce casually like it's their favorite toy. <<less

Very enjoyable read.

I love how calmly the couple faces their challenges. Instead of big drama from every small interaction, they were chill and, could you imagine that, they talked. Yes. Instead of assuming the worst of each other, they actually trusted each other and then when facing a problem, they talked calmly and solved it, unlike most novels where they'd just be mad and drag the simple misunderstanding forever.

Just freaking love when characters act like sensible human beings.

If I had to nitpick about the novel,... more>> it would be that the characters were quite bland. At start I didn't really notice, but the closer to the endi realise that, yes, the main characters are realistic, but both didn't really have anything unique about them. Another thing is that the child is way too smart for a 4 year old. Some times he acts like an adult, but another time he's more childish than a normal child his age. But well, both these things didn't really bother me, it was still a very good read.

If you like romance genre, definitely recommend reading this. <<less

This story is so good. Can I just say I love the ML so much. No r49e, patience and communication. The romance is steady and the couple's feelings for each other are well and truly earned.

Baby ofcourse is very cute and lovable. I loved that he was smart but not some 400IQ bullsh*t mutant.

This novel was more satisfying than 3000+ epics.

The other reviews mostly covered this, but I don't fully agree that it was entirely realistic or boring. Yes, it doesn't conform to tropes and takes a more realistic approach. Yes, its avoidance of tropes also removes most melodrama. However, this is not like reading a biography by any means.

This is still a light novel and even an antagonist appears at some point. I think some of the 'realism' even added comedic elements. For example, the MC's failed attempts at tricking the child into believing her. The back and forths... more>> were super cute and reminded me of dealing with actual children. The ML also seemed to pick up this habit of trying to trick the child from the FL which was quite cute for a straight laced man to attempt.

I think the turning point for both parents was when they starting working together due to their increasing awareness of the fact that they wouldn't be able to hide the status of their household from the child much longer. My current relationship developed from cooperation (although not same situation) to friendship and then to romance, so I get that.

Another boon is that the motivations of characters are often clear cut. Usually they are hinted at before being revealed, but there is no sudden reversals of character and you can always understand early actions of a character in the B plot once their motivation is revealed in the main plot. <<less

A very slice of life, heartwarming story, where MC and ML actually talk to each other and cause no needless misunderstandings. MC's feelings are portrayed very realistically - she doesn't become the ideal mother and wife as soon as she transmigrated, and took her time to get used to the new life. ML's initially too uninterested in personal life, and doesn't care that he basically lives with a stranger, but with the transmigrated MC, he starts paying attention to his son's mother and then to his wife. There is no... more>> sudden overflowing of emotions, but a gradual shift from plastic marriage to a real marriage. The little guy is cute and provides some comedy, though too smart/adult at times - a common thing for C-novels. <<less

It's good, but truthfully.. Boring.

No drama, no face slap, no feelings, no ambitions, no talents, nothing. I didn't know why I've read this far either.

I didn't laugh cause the story was so flat, didn't go awww cause there's no romance so far, didn't go mad cause there's no love rival (I mean there's one or two but did they count if the other person didn't even saw them in their eyes?), just read this story with a straight face.

The translation was good. The rating was for them. But I still... more>> didn't get it. What was the porpose of this novel? To saw how a beautiful, rich, aloof, jobless person lived by leeching of her super patient, wealthy not-husband? I wanted to see how they fall in love, but even then this novel will still be a bore. <<less

The epitome of slice-of-life. This is certainly not a romance story as there was barely any romance, not until the last few chapters and even that was pretty bland. Won't ever recommend this to anyone looking for romance.

Have been reading it raw and I really enjoyed it. This novel is probably not for those readers who wanted an overbearing CEO nor cheesy romance.

It might be dull and boring for some but it's exactly within my taste.

Spoiler

Before the transmigration of the protagonist, the original's relationship with her husband (male lead) is in name only. She married and got pregnant with the male lead just so she could have a human cash machine. She doesn't care about her child nor her family.

And after the female lead took over she decided to maintain the status quo with her husband. Neither approaching nor avoiding. Not hold or cold and so does the male lead. They treated each other as dormmates. OF COURSE THEY WILL WARM UP TO EACH OTHER GRADUALLY.

In regards to her child and her family, she started to improve her relationship with them

Truly related MC and truly logical ML. No instant mother-child bond. No instant love. Which are common sense but rarely found in these type of novels but it is inside here. I enjoyed it.

This is probably the first time I’ve ever given a 3 star, but I can’t help it.

To be honest, I like the premise but the one thing that annoyed me throughout was the MC. It felt like the author was trying to make her indifferent to her son and husband since she saw them as strangers, but at the same time, she wanted to show that she cared about them for no reason. She said in the beginning that she doesn’t really care if the husband dies, but a few... more>> chapters later, she changes her mind and says that she’s scared for his life???? What happened to him being a stranger to you? I’m so confused. Why the sudden 180? And then author says she likes children, but then acts distant with her son. Bruh? Which is it? I’m fine with indifferent MCs, it’s just that, this one seems so wishy-washy or the author trying to portray her as indifferent.

As for other characters like her husband and son, they’re both nice. I guess one other gripe I have is her son sounds too smart for a 4 year old, it felt unbelievable. <<less

72 chapters and basically nothing happened.

The MC is a very realistic person, which is a good thing, but she's... to much. It's almost as she's not involved at all.

In 72 chapters MC and ML rarely spoke and when they did it was something about their child or practical stuff.

No chemistry, no feelings, nothing. For 72 chapters.

The translation is good, but the novel is too boring, I don't understand why the rating is so high tbh

This is a very simple and light read. Main focus is around the development of the relationship between the FL with her family (ML and son). I particularly like how both parties are very calm and logical, so misunderstandings either don't occur, or are resolved immediately. There is not extreme feelings, nor does it evoke extreme feelings in the readers. However, it does give a very heartwarming feel.

The story itself can only be described as an okay read, it's not overly fluffy & romantic, but at the same time it's not angsty/depressing either. The saving grace of this novel and my reason for not dropping it was the FL's son, he was a little cutie and the sole reason that there was ANY development between the leads! Other than that though, this story was rather underwhelming with not much plot to keep you interested. I did end up completing it so it wasn't a major snoozefest, but... more>> I wouldn't necessarily recommend this novel. <<less

Yeah, the story itself is not bad, I especially liked the ML he feels like a real person and I really enjoyed reading about him, the main problem is that MC is really bland and boring.

Since it’s written from MC’s perspective you can imagine how boring it can get.

The romance is slow and it matches the story, however, I just feel that the more I read the more I expected something exciting to happen but it never did uh.

Overall, it’s an okay read if you don’t mind bland characters. The... more>> plot is good. <<less

This story isn't bad, to be honest, and the translator did a great job. It's just that the story and the characters are bland. The thing is, people love the trope and genre the story follows, so it's easy for people to get into it, the challenge this story fails to overcome is how to make people stay. That is to say, other than the trope and genre itself, the story isn't very compelling and makes it difficult for readers to care.

The MC who is supposed to carry the story... more>> is an empty sheet. There's always a hint of her interesting and pragmatic personality, but it just doesn't push through her actions and is so subtle it hurts. She's supposed to be aloof and quite the modern woman and there's so much potential there but it felt like the writer was hesitating or just was not able to show that aspect of her in her actions as MC is just not consistent with her thing.

There's also potential with ML but jezuz christ he has the presence of a day old dust and it's so difficult to see where MC and ML would fit with each other. They seem too similar it's like having to marry yourself. It's like seeing someone play two people with slight past differences who are simply okay with not talking. Sure, comfortable silence is nice, but there's only so much one can take of it without it becoming a denial of each other's existence. <<less

Status: 313 (the finalcof the main story)
My final opinion.....

1. Too little Romance.
I don't have any problem with slow development but their actual romance starts too late (after more than half the novel is over) and even that was too plain.

2. It lacks a solid plot
It's the same old story where MC transmigrate and then... Prevent something bad from happing to ML and develop a relationship with him and the child. In the middle of this, a few crazy pursuers of both MC&ML causing trouble for them.

3. Realistic (in both good&bad ways)
At first,... more>> I like MC's approach. She treats the child of the original body well, but she doesn't consider her as his mother. Because she can't accept it so suddenly.
There are many such examples and apart from stuff like transmigration, the overall story gives a realistic feel.
But after a few chapters, it starts to irritate you. In the name of ' it'll not happen in reality', it becomes too bland.
Also, even this doesn't don't prevent MC's sudden drop in IQ, and EQ.

4. MC is not likeable (For me)
She considers herself a logical, realistic and mature person and it's true.
But many times her decisions would make you angry. They'll not feel you rational. Sometimes what you think is logical is heartless.
The example that left a pretty big impression on me is... After she comes to a new world and finds that her original body's husband is going to die in an accident, she considers the pro&cons of that! She remembers after his death his company will go bankrupt and the kid also needs his father, and that's why she decides to
save him!
She is too selfish and she admits it. Okay, everyone is selfish to a certain extent. But she hits my nerves. Accepting being selfish does not make it right. Just like admitting that you're a bad person does not excuse your bad behaviour or actions.

5. Not really LOVE
After reading the whole novel, I can't say it's love. They are replaceable for each other. Even when they confess and start a relationship, I can't help but feel alienation.
Even the beginning of their love starts with gain&loss. They do have feelings, but they're not that much important. ML wants to develop relation with her because she is his son's mother. He didn't like the original owner and he even thought to like her cuz they were already married.
So, as long as another party is interested, he had no other requirement. (One time it's even mentioned that he wanted to start a family with the original owner, but he noticed she was not interested, so he dropped the idea).
I don't like this nor do I think it's love. Yes, love does not need to be intense but if it's too shallow, then it's not for me.
He knew the original owner wanted monetary gains but still had one night stand. It doesn't fit with his personality at all. He is very mature, stable, and rational and he puts his integrity above anything.
Let's say everyone has a moment of weakness.
But 4 years later, his wife suddenly changed and started to take care of his son, it was enough for him. I get it that he wants his family to remain together in situation and all. But I hate it.
Just because you have a child does not mean you have to sacrifice EVERYTHING.

6. Kid is cute (and too out of the world)
He is smart and has a very good personality. You'll like him.
But he is an unrealistic part of this story. I can't imagine a 3-year-old kid with more EQ than many adults, way too good at talking, exceptionally logical, understanding, caring, sensible, helping, forgiving, loving and whatnot.
He doesn't feel real. Really.
MC and ML do a good job at parenting but one thing seemed pretty illogical to me.
ML often teaches him to respect and protect girls, which I agree with and admire. But it goes to a dangerous level. The kid is taught that because ML and he are BOYS and MC is a GIRL, they have to protect and respect her. I don't like this notion. Respect and care should not come from gender. Such discrimination is unfair to boys.
The kid even doesn't expose her lies because he thinks he has to be forgiving to her because she is a girl!
Author repeatedly mentions how the kid wants to sleep with his mother more than his father. How a father can't replace a mother no matter what. Because of this, the kid starts to be closer to his mother than his father.
Come on! What bullsh*t is this?
He had indeed craved his mother's love and but as smart as that kid is, how can he will start to put his father below his mother??
He had seen his mother's indifference and he can slowly forget it. But how can he'll forget that it was his father that loved him all along and took care of everything??

8. Poor representation of Women

MC is materialistic and just like the original owner, she too is greedy for ML's money. I can understand that everyone wants money and no one is going to throw the chance but I don't like it.

MC never feels any burden using ML's money. She hesitated to save his life but not when using money!

The MC even don't feel the original owner for her action of getting pregnant for marrying ML was anything serious! She thinks of she was decisive, knows what she wants and goes for it!

Apart from looks, I really can't think of any good points for MC. Even that face isn't hers!

I can't think of a single woman in this story that I can appreciate. They either depend on a male or are ambitious and think love is not for them coz what they want is a career. Why does this has to be this way?? Can't a woman have both??

MC is overbearing, self-centred and I hate it.

This novel took a different approach and tried to make the story realistic. It has succeeded in it but it failed to make it interesting. <<less

The premise isn't bad. Not novel but not bad and I usually like this type of story but literally nothing is happening. I held on until chapter 39 to make this comment because I kept thinking something might happen. This is super boring. I only gave it 3 stars and not less because maybe it'll get better in the future but for now, it's not progressing at all.

The way I judge whether a story has a good pacing and progress or not is that if I skip 10 chapters or... more>> so, if I don't feel like I missed anything then the author has miserably failed. If I feel lost after skipping them then it's good because that means things have truly developed in the part I skipped. For this, I could read chapter 1 and then chapter 39 and I wouldn't feel any progress <<less

I like how the romance happened naturally and slowly. It reminded me of Lin Yiyi and Lu Xun from the villain and the cannon fodder's mother. I liked how the FL didn't rush to assume the identity of being a mom and a wife, and instead enjoyed her luxurious married life with an instant child. The ML was so lovaaaable like gaaahd! You can't help but cheer for him and his earnest struggle in making his family with Ruan Xia and Little Wang work. Even though he was the typical... more>> aloof and overbearing CEO, he didn't allow himself to be ambiguous even with a bad marital relationship at the start with the FL, and he always treated the FL with respect and tolerance even though the origRuan Xia was a shitty mother.

Spoiler

It was just a bit offputting at how their child could act so mature and childish at some times. Though I guess he was meant to be the villain in the original novel and his abilities should've been on par with the novel's ML. Anyway, I like the ending where the FL decided not to have a second child since she didn't want her feelings towards Little Wang to change if she gives birth to her own child. After all, she know that she really isn't the child's mother, though she is occupying the body of the biological mother.

[collapse]

Anyways, it's a good, lighthearted story that doesn't have much drama. I only gave 4 stars because I didn't feel much emotions while reading this novel. You could say that it's a bit dull? Still, it's enjoyable since I'm a sucker for child-raising novels lol <<less
