This novel made me laugh out loud. MC is hilarious. Her interactions/antics with ML from childhood to made the novel so funny. Recommended especially after reading drama heavy novels. The story is quite lighthearted and heart warming. Recommended!

I don't know why there are ratings below 5. For me, it's well written. The plot is good. I like all their carefree attitude. I understand that during childhood, the female lead is childish. I've been there, too. But the fact that when things goes out of control, she cries. She's not that bad at all. I see a lot of children in the same attitude as the female lead, some are even worse. Overall, this story is amazing.

Highly recommend to those who like a smooth sailing story without lots... more>> of dramas that can make you abhor all antagonist in the story. <<less

This novel is HILARIOUS!! Honestly one of the most funniest stories I've read so far. Excuse the rant, but
Spoiler

There's a lot of nitpicking regarding the MC bullying the ML when they were children. Honestly, the most violent thing she did was chase ML with a worm in which he then tripped & fell into a thorn bush. MC was remorseful and apologised (not verbally, but by giving fruit which is a shocking move for this stubborn monster child) and the parents were realistic in that they wrote it off as an accident. It's not like this 7 year old child purposely conspired to have the ML end up in hospital. C'mon man, they're 7-8 year old kids who don't know any better and y'all gonna hate a child for how a child actually behaves?! I'm not trying to justify bullying but some of y'all act like MC wasn't punished repeatedly for her behaviour or didn't end up regretting her actions. Her dad is a principal and does not condone corporal punishment so she was made to face the wall, go to bed without dinner, etc. - but apparently these types of punishments weren't enough. So what do y'all want? For this kid to be beaten? Jailed? Kidnapped? R.a.p.e.d? Abandoned? She's a child for crying out loud!!!! Plus, MC hurt herself more as a kid (fell off a tree and cracked her head, broke her tooth, almost got bitten by a dog, etc.) and the ML either enjoyed watching it or learned from it. It was a love-hate relationship. One minute they're squabbling the next they're playing together.

As an 18 year old freshman student, MC is dense. Don't expect her to make educated decisions, especially decisions relating to love because she's an inexperienced teenager. MC is overconfident, indecisive and childish... Just like every other 18 year old who knows little about life! But according to some, she's supposed to already be mature as a freshman? She's 18! Which 18 year old is not immature?!?! It doesn't make sense for a teenager to have their s.h.i.t together at the start of university. If she did, then there'd be no "coming-of-age" element WHICH IS THE WHOLE POINT OF THIS NOVEL!! *rolls eyes*

This is a story where MC grows up and matures slowly as she experiences the ups and downs of life. As she grows, she reflects on her past behaviour and then apologises to ML for how she treated him. He forgives her, but some people still have a problem with that. What do you want her to do? Beg on her knees, give up her dreams or sacrifice her life to make it up to him?! For a novel of the comedic genre, some of y'all are being waaay too serious.

Heck, some reviewers even have a problem with the "inappropriate" jokes that the students make with each other. Dude seriously..... they're college kids in the 21st century. Of course they're gonna make dirty jokes and be curious about s.e.x *rolls eyes again* Young adults are either dirty-minded or open-minded or both nowadays, where have you been the past decade? Under a rock? Or did y'all transmigrate here from the 50s?

This is a rom-com with more emphasis on the comedy... key word there: COMEDY. It's supposed to be silly and s.t.u.p.i.d.l.y ridiculous.

Yes, everyone is entitled to an opinion. If you don't like this novel, then that's okay.... But, I just can't help but feel annoyed on behalf of the author when they clearly wrote a funny, coming-of-age story but get criticised for it not being serious or romantic enough, or for the immature characters who haven't even grown up yet. The tags are there. The author's & translator's notes are there too. Why hate a novel for being exactly as it is described/written to be?! Sheesh, some of y'all need to get over yourselves.

[collapse]
The translations are absolutely perfect and the plot is well-paced. If you like fluff, hilarity and wacky drama, this is it lol.

Dropping this @ ch67. Overall, I rate this 3.5 / 5.

I'm not totally convinced with the whole enemies to lovers element in this story. At first it was cute. I was waiting if there is some cute romantic reason why FL bullied or oppressed ML but turns out it was just her jealousy, envy, and insecurity. I thought it'll be something about her secretly having a crush on ML and in order to catch his attention she's doing those things, or any cliche reason involving puppy love—BUT NO. Sure she's... more>> just a kid back then but honestly, the adults around here didn't really tolerate her. They scold her and educate her but she's stubborn. It was physically harmless for the most part but it just doesn't sit well with me.

I'm not even mad that ML tricked her on their choice of middle school. If I were constantly harassed for years I'd do the same too. FL may think it's no big deal—and the way everything was narrated may not lean on that though too—but it still.

Also that part where she abandoned him when Yu Yan asked her to! God I was angry! Like girl seriously? The dude just helped you and even begged for you to be able to have the chance to join the team and yet u dropped him that instant. Not even having second thoughts?

Anyway, after the whole Yu Yan ordeal was over it kind of got boring for me. I just went on with it til this chapter bec I was waiting for something or a turning point but I guess it's not coming? <<less

The novel is well-written and the translation is very well done but I can't really get into the story. Admittedly, I'm not very far into it - I'm only at chapter 10 - but I really can't find the motivation to keep reading. I really dislike this kind of FL.

It's pretty much what it says on the summary. The FL bullies the ML as kids and the ML escapes her until they meet again in university. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like the FL grows up at all even after the... more>> time skip. She's still selfish, she even has a new s*ave.

I don't think I can keep reading. This is just my personal opinion so if you like this kind of story, go ahead. <<less

Loved it! Might even watch the drama afterwards.

I personally relate to the MC because I was kind of like a 'school bully' as well, she was misunderstood a lot during her youth and she didn't really know anything else because precisely, she was still a kid. I think her teasing ML back then was her own way of showing affection.

Love how strong the storyline is and even though I want more fluff at the ending, I think it's pretty satisfying as it is a coming-of-age novel.

This is the funniest, funniest, funniest C-novel that I've ever read! Hahahaha. Every chapter just made me laugh out loud. Can't fathom where the FL gets her confidence--almost similar to the level of Nian Junting in Slowly Growing Fond of You, Mr. Nian. The FL's wild imagination is a talent too. Read this and I guarantee that you'll laugh your heart out.

But..... this ain't perfect too. It made light of juvenile bullying, which is something that should not be made light of. The ML (the one who the FL kept... more>> on bullying when they were kids) had psychological scars from that bullying, but the issue was swept under the rug.

Anyway, no novel is perfect. But I still enjoyed this one A LOT. <<less

Excellent. Worth of five star. Classic.

These are words that I only could describe to this novel. It's been awhile since I read some novel without any exaggerating dramas but manages to pull the reader in the plot and had evoked the emotions of the reader. The characters arent well OP like some in the other novels. But that character growth and their qualities was the finest of them all. The whole story seems much more realistic and were pretty much more relatable. At first I was hesitating to read this... more>> novel despite of the good reviews and rating on it because I am more really fond of face-slapping novels and more heavy dramas. But those hesitations had been thrown back on my mind when I started to read this. I really couldn't come more with adjectives to describe the excellence of this novel and the fondness I had felt on it throughout my reading journey but all I know and could felt that time when the novel ends is emptiness. It's like you have settle into this new home but when the novel ends despite of the happy ending, you have come to the reality that they are just characters and aren't part of your life. It's like you have seen and known them for long. You have been their in their growth but in the end you were slapped by the truth that you cant see them anymore. Aiya. I am just too emotional. Dont mind this nonsense of old lady. I just want to say that to be able to stumble with this novel is a blessing to me. To be able to know Tang Xue and Li Yubing is a wish that came true that even myself didnt know that I had hope this for entire long. My tears won't just stop. I think I am pretty submerge in this novel that I couldn't just shrug it off. <<less

SO CUTE. I love this sort of coming-of-age stuff.

Jiu Xiao Qi's stories always seem to hit my sweet spot. What sets this story apart from other romance novels of the same genre is that Jiu Xiao Qi manages to strike a good balance between school life, sports, and romance. FL was a little princess of a bully to ML, but in that way where late-blooming eight year olds are still learning how to function as a human in society and can't grasp how their actions and words can hurt others.

The... more>> overarching storyline about FL making the mistake of giving up something important to her, then choosing to pursue it again despite the obstacles definitely struck a chord with me. Making mistakes such a realistic part of life and this notion of FL having to overcome that embedded a sense of emotional realism into Jiu Xiao Qi's brand of hilarious yet crude humor. <<less

I liked reading this one but:

I think I still don't like the bullying part. Though towards the end the FL did realize that she overdid things before as a kid she did not repent much on it. So I feel like it should have some repentance thingy that happened in between. That is why I'm giving this a 3 star.

Honestly I've been continuously getting caught off guard with the interactions between all the characters. I loved reading this just for the numerous amount of moments that have had me cackling and giggling.

Here's a snippet of the type of humor you can expect, taken from a chapter near the end:

Spoiler

"Is my head the same as an egg?"

"It's not? Oh, yes, it's not. You have hair." Tang Xue rubbed his bald head and felt the newly-grown hair scrapped her palm gently. The sensation was way too satisfying. It was so comfortable that she slit her eyes. "I hereby announce, you are now a kiwi."

[collapse]

The side character interactions are amazing; Xia Menghuan and Liao Zhenyu are my favorites alongside Li Tubing's mother. Perhaps the FL might irk some for her personality, but I for one feel like it's been a very novel experience.

Objectively, it isn't a great novel story-wise but I feel like the dumb, immature, comedy was just what I needed today. <<less

SO SO CUTE!!

If you liked Put Your Head On My Shoulder, you’ll like Rock Sugar and Pear Pew.

It’s a feel good novel with no enemies for the main characters to defeat besides the enemies their own minds create, like we ourselves have.

... more>> They’re human and flawed, but they always try their best to overcame their faults and carry on together, and that is what I liked most.

Not gonna lie, the slow burn kind of grates at first, I almost thought the second male lead was going to become the first, but it all works out and the pay off is all the better for it.

Definetly recommend!! <<less

I love how Tang Xue and Xia Menghuan have been portrayed opposite to what most of our society expect women to be - obedient, sweet, physically and emotionally weak women who constantly needs to be protected by men, etc. Come to think of it, most women characters in this story are strong and solid, who can hold on their own if placed alongside their partners

Kudos to Jiu Xiaoqi for a great story! Will look forward for more stories from you.

Also, to Xing, and her editor Souhi, of Tea Fragrance for... more>> her English translation making this available to us who are non-Chinese speakers/readers.

P.S.

Was wondering though about Tan Xue's grandfather who brought her to Disneyland. Who is he? How big is his clout as a person? <<less

This is really one of my favorite stories that I've re-read at least twice. I'm really happy the side stories were written at the end and were not fillers of the main novel. Honestly I only care about the main story anyway. The FL has quite a personality, not weak at all, which I like. The ML is also strong and your typical handsome, heartthrob character, but so sweet to FL coz he's so into her. Highly recommend you read this, especially if you like childhood sweetheart stories like I... more>> do. :) <<less

This book is soooo funny and sweet! I smile when I read reviews that say they burst out laughing while reading a book but I am on a Chapter 17 and had to stop to write a review because I keep bursting out in laughter or smiles. Read this - it will totally make your day. And the translation is great too!

Love the interaction of the two leads and it's sometimes hilarious and sweer. Overall, the story is really good and to my liking.

I always had a soft spot with the story that following the journey from childhood to adult life of both MC and ML. It will started all innocent, then confusing to them and acceptance and maturity. Personally the beginning and middle of the plot was good to me, but after that it just go downhill.
