Tiring. There is really only one way to describe this novel and it is immensely exhausting to read. I don't just mean exhausting on the brain due to the sheer quantity of chapters, no. It is exhausting to read this novel because of how unjust and frustrating you feel when you read it. For example, at Chapter 1560, Shi Hao just contributed largely to the war efforts, and what does he get?

Spoiler

He gets sent to the opposition warring camp for 500 years of peace for "reinforcements" that may not even arrive.
Why you ask? Because he gets crushed down by a Supreme Being from a family that has a deep feud against him, DESPITE having a Supreme Being who is way stronger in his camp.

[collapse]

and this happens several times in the novel, there are at least 3 major arcs where Shi Hao gets 'buffed' to the point where he can defeat opponents several large realms above his cultivation, but mean absolutely nothing because he gets crushed by a WAY stronger- to the point of absurdity, opponent.

I had to take several mental breaks reading this. At this point, I'm reading for completionist's sake and not even because I enjoy it anymore. If you want to read better CN, I recommend A Will Eternal, or Martial World. Way less mentally taxing to read, and even if there are points to give the readers a scare and to worry about the main lead, it isn't because of something ridiculous like "the main lead at level 1 getting crushed by a level 9999 demon king" troupe used fantastically many times like in this novel. <<less

Perfect World? Yeah its a read that can consume time for the heck of it.

I give the novel 3.5 / 5 Why? Read below.

Perfect World is your typical cultivation LN. The MC trains > get stronger > wins. This doesnt disqualify the experience you'll get when reading, its always the story telling that matters once an author threads this path, and yes Perfect World quantifies itself on its own to relay the picture.

... more>> Lets talk about things.

Plot (A). The set up of the novel pictures our MC from a boy who has an identity that fought through each obstacles, was entangled on a conflict that gives off a deadly threat to his love ones and his world.

As the story unravels, and as the MC grows, he figured that there are secrets left by the scars of war and the struggles of the present day continues because of it.

The MC believes that there must be a way to fight this, even if he has to create his own way to solve it. Spoilers aside, ofcourse he succeeded, and there are things not to be written here for the readers to know on their own.

Plot holes (B) . The novel may get some ass pulls from time to time, but theyre agreeable based on how the conflict worked out. No excessive deus ex machina moments gave a good touch, thats if we dont count how many times the MC resu, which is main plot armor.

Luckily, there are no numerical plot holes, and few unimportant forgotten plot lines.

Pacing. The novel's flow is borderline slow, but expect some arch that will be suddenly rushed. This is a real faulty thing for a novel, like in a good sexy time, a sudden limp d*ck moment occured which destroys the momentum. This is one of the reason why the novel based on my review lost a 0.75 stars in rating.

Sadly the author cant conclude things properly, and may rush an outcome just because.

(Though this is a personal observation of mine, its like an itch, because of this, Ive considered it as a plot hole.)

Solo battles every now and then, the set up of the story usually involves a lot of people, but it seems the author cant properly express a group interaction / battle. Even on a stand off, there will be a hard push to do it via duel. Though this was fixed at the later part of the story its kinda late, and the pacing at that part is different.

Character Development / Main Character. The main focus if the story heavily revolves around the MC. As a sentimental person, his naive-funny personality turned mature. The blend of his personality brings the reader to how the atmosphere of the story changes over time.

*Add the effect of a scenario where he was shown something that he shouldnt see, but is connected to the other books the author has written.*

Character Development / Side Characters. In the early chapters, the side characters brings color to the story. They serve as a nail to piece the flow of the story together, their usefulness is very much apparent, the need for a plot pushing character is there.

Albeit what is mentioned, the interaction on how they grew with the MC in the story is remarkable on their own... while theyre not being discarded.

Its quite noticable that vital side characters, antagonists and even love interest does play a role on the MC's view, but theres a huge drop of their relevance on the later part of the story. Even at the end of the story theyre not addressed properly.

*Theres even an IMPORTANT character that wasnt named.* ffs.

.

.

.

.

Soooo should you read Perfect World?

Yes its passable quality is up a level and a half compared to some tr*sh that comes as 1 dimentional copy paste cultivation LN thats quite popular.

Would I personally recommend it as quality LN?

No. Its way below the standard of a good story, this is based on its the story's method of pacing and making a conclusion per arch.

I just find it a struggle to read this novel despite the decent translation. The novel actually has a lot of potential due to the interesting cultivation system and universe but the author seems to be unable to make good use of them. There are multiple issues plaguing this novel (as of chp. 153) and I honestly don't think it'll get better.

Firstly, repetitive, unoriginal descriptions. You know it's bad when the author keeps repeating stuffs early into his work. On top of that, the fight scenes are generally dragged and... more>> repetitive.

Secondly, author does not bother to make things sensible to readers. Basically, the story is all over the place. You'll find it difficult to get an idea of how strong the opponents are (especially early on). Up until now, I have no idea about the strength of the beasts living near Stone Village. This is only one of the few things I can't make sense of. <<less

Oh man, I don't know if I've just read it wrong or whatever. But for some reason I seem to have read a glimpse of "Lord Fifth" somewhere in this novel. Hahah, maybe it's just a misconception but I can't help but to imagine a crossover with this two novels. There is just so many similarity in the char and some physical aspects in these two. But man, don't mind me. I'm just an old daoist trying to find my path, babbling about some nonsense.

Absolutely brilliant novel. It has all the typical xianxia tropes, plot armor, and the likes. However, it is written beautifully, translated well, and the main point is that the characters aren't sex-crazed, h**ny young masters. Also compared to many other novels, there is a decent amount of balance between people wanted to kill the MC and protect. With a good blend of humor alongside the serious and developing plot, this is one the best translated novels. It is written for a slightly more mature audience with interesting little things like... more>> forgiveness and enemies becoming friends. <<less

The story start out good until it goes to other (higher) dimension and fighting others for unknown reasons and keep fighting until it reveals there is war between two world. In the end there is still unclear what is the cause for the war also the ending is cliffhanging. Don't regret if you already read to end.

The beginning of the novel was nicely done, there was even a certain amount of intrigue and humor. Afterwards it goes downhill.

Spoiler

After becoming somewhat famous, 90% of the story I've read is about eating beasts. MC - ooh that xxx beast looks tasty let me eat it. Side character to MC - He is s*upid, how can he eat xxx beast, it's like 100 times his size. MC - Beats up xxx beats & eats it. Side character - He is crazy, wait let me eat it too.

It’s a bit slow-paced so far but I guess this is just going to give it a better foundation. I’ve personally enjoyed reading it and I’m waiting for more chapters. It's a bit dramatic around chapters 50-60 where MC reminisces his past but after that it gets quite funny, especially at the Void God realm part.

Question for people who recently finished it:

Spoiler

What happens to the little pagoda? Sometimes I watch 1-2 episodes of the animated adaptation just to test my memory and I have no recollection about it after following Willow deity into the danger zone.

Fun book to read, the Author and translator did a pretty good job expressing various feelings. The tone of the story vastly changed over the 2000 chapters but I didn't mind it.

A xianxia with a solid core which could benefit a lot from a proper book release and an editor, but still a good read for the fans of the genre. <<less

Hmm. This is one of the first CN I finished and it wasn't too bad. I liked how the MC tried to go on a different path and explore his cultivation level. Also he was a humorous character and the world building is nice.

However the ending wasn't it for me. Truly made me disappointed. Other than that ot was a satisfying read.

It is a good start with a little Goku type MC. Try reading the first dozen or so chapters (I assure you wouldn't have wasted your time), as for continuing further you can choose as per individual likings.

I have read this novel a long while back,
Spoiler

the first thing that comes to my mind is his nick, that he picks in virtual realm.

Personally, I feel Author had done a great job with the novel. I would read if the author ever decides to release it's sequel.

i know it wasn't fair to judge just from early chapter, but the problem for me is from the start.

the author seems genius in adding word count so he always tell all the detail of unnecessary thing in story like " his body now become strong, and start describe all physically detail and what ever aura whatever detail and make the guy doing something strong" yes he is now strong lets just move on.

it took 2 chapter just to describe how the MC got "baptized". the wood for burning is... more>> blablabla the wood was precious the best or what ever blablabla, the cauldron is blablabla somehow is was great cauldron blablabla, the animal blood is blablabla it keep fighting even its just a blood followed description why it can fight blablabla, the herb accompanied was precious blbalbalabalaba... I can just skip 2 chapter

im surprised it only end at 2000++ chapter, not 10.000++ chapter based on all detail in 1 chapter. <<less

It has a good plot and works development

But the MC wanting to eat everything he sees really starts to get irritating and the MC goes around causing trouble by then gets hunted down and in the end the MC comes out as a winner

If you skip all the cliches and boring fights then it's a good read

The pace is slow. It's somewhat like Coiling Dragon where you read the progression about the MC from childhood. Personally, I enjoyed the MC's childhood antics for the early arcs. The story is a bit more original and has different plots instead of the repetitive fighting over the "jade-like beautiful woman" or the revenge because of face. At least for me, the MC grew on me and I did tear a bit for a particular chapter. The story has nice touching scenes BUT like a lot of Chinese novels... more>> that should end gracefully early on, the later arcs dragged in certain areas. This novel has a good blend of character interactions and personalities for secondary characters that aren't nullified several chapters later on. Overall, it's a good read for characters and plot. Lowered star for semi-dragging for the finishing arcs. <<less

Definitely one of the better Xianxia novels I've read.

The other reviews talk a lot about dropping it in the first few chapters- the author continues with the whole dropping confusing mysteries regularly, but the characterization of the MC and the humor get a lot better once the MC grows up a little. I recommend trying to get past that section.

Shi Hao is one badass MC and really feels like a unrivalled genius in much of the novel, I really enjoy that aspect.

The ending is solid is somewhat disappointing. Definitely better... more>> than many of the Xianxia webnovels I've read *cough*martialworld*cough*.

Overall the novel ranges from a 6 to a 9 depending on the arc. I'd give it an 8/10 overall. Recommended. <<less

Good, but too much repeated description that makes you skip chapters. Example something like: She is too beautiful because she is beautiful like a jade and white sparking beautiful smooth dreamlike jade beautiful like an immortal even though she is already an immortal, etc.......

So to begin I want to say that this novel is EXTREMELY mysterious. Like this author loves dramatic mystery so much, making Shi Hao explore ancient black ships, huge palaces, primordial medicine gardens, travel through the rivers of time, experience the lives of others, reincarnate. That itself actually had the most appeal to me, because I was so engrossed with the mystery which kept me on my seat. This made the first chapters 1-500 and chapters 1500-2000 very enjoyable to me as it did a good job involving the mystery.

Now... more>> the reason I gave this novel a 4 star rather than a 5 star because of how much it started to drag in the middle. Around the Three thousand provinces arc and Nine Heavens arc (chapter 500-1500), the amount of useless young masters and mindless enmity towards Shi Hao became annoying. These "young masters" just became filler to me, which made the novel a bit boring.

In conclusion, if I had the option to remove about 300 chapters from this novel, it could have been an easy 5 stars. I would recommend this novel for people who like those "dao" heavy novels, especially towards the end.

Oh and don't expect much if even anything from the romance in this novel. It's a joke. <<less

At early chapters, was good. But moving onto the different planes, finding out the past history and an unwanted rage is just lame.

Basically, a bit too much irrational. Imagine a 10 year old kid dreaming of immortality, that's how it actually feels.

Still, some parts are enjoyable and other parts are curse-able.

1-499 the novel is good but when it reaches 500 it becomes a novel where the MC is only collecting a heroine.

No more heavenly defying battle that the MC participated, the only beings that participate is the willow tree and the little pagoda.

Become extremely boring, MC living the day, no more enemy appearing, no more battle that the MC participated. The MC literally become an MC lazy enough that it looks like he is disabled.

Extremely disappointing.

One of my favorite novels. While the story may seem repititive and there are some cliches to be found, the way the MC acts makes me want to laugh and cheer him on.

This is an MC with personality. If you've read any of the other chinese novels out there you'll know why I have to underline that word. The story itself is slow, but it sets up a good foundation in which to progress. There are good, memorable secondary characters that don't just disappear after 1-2 chapters. I am not... more>> sending out spoilers here, so you'll just have to read it yourself.

This novel isn't perfect, but it is miles ahead of others just based on the MC alone. Read this if you are tired of those cardboard cutout characters and want a MC that is not copy-paste. <<less
