I woke up in an unknown forest.

It seemed like this place was a fantasy world where strange-looking beasts ran rampant. And just like in a game, I seemed to be able to check my enemies’ and my ability.

Let’s hunt monsters and gather titles in order to level up and evolve into a Greater Dragon!

And I heard a mysterious voice in my head, “Let’s aim to be the strongest!”

I am at chapter 471. Infos about this novel that can make you decidie if you wanna try it out:

  1. If you want an MC who is only obsessed with strengh and revenge this novel is not for you.
  2. If you instead want a kind hearted MC you made a good choice comming here.
  3. The MC often does, just like any other person, mistakes and is in no way perfect. But he still grows stronger and stronger in his own unique way.
The novel is very well written and I can give it a... more>> solid 5/5 stars. <<less

Honestly love it, very original premise of a character that knows he is reincarnated but doesn't really remember he's past life, his growth is fast but he never gets so OP to the point that thing just become monotonous. The side character are also very compelling even considering the fact most can't talk (specially in the beginning where he mostly interacts with low level monsters).

The MC is a bit silly, is certainly rather naive which I understand might be a negative point to some people, but for me it just... more>> makes sense considering he basically only has a vague idea of his past life and as such is by all means a newborn in this world. <<less

There are a lot of things I like about this novel and even more I don’t. I’d honestly recommend reading the new manga instead.

spoiler of plot up to 583

Spoiler

Main character will travel around building up allies, only to have to leave them behind. Some questions will not be resolved even within hundreds of chapters. You are never going to find out how that country or even various villages rebuild once the dragon leaves. Even the poor orange monkeys at the beginning are not spared from this neglect. The plot is more focused on historical grudges. Keep reading for MAJOR spoilers.

The current world was created when six sages merged four world’s together into one. The barriers of this flat world are surrounded by 4 legendary areas which may or may not have significance. There are also four sacred authorities that are spread amongst the enemies the MC will face.

‘Laplace’ is a god created to oversee the world under severe restrictions. He has no free will and a programmed purpose that has not been fully elaborated on, but it seems to have included sealing evil God Foren in the past. The voice of God is not Laplace or Foren, but actually the sixth sage who appears to have backed out of the agreement between the six sages or six ‘creator gods’. Earlier story had instead implied these six were previous heroes or something, but that must be either be a misunderstanding by the denizens of the world or deus ex machina by the author.

The sixth sage uses the voice of God skill to drive certain people who can resist the laws overseen by Laplace into conflict with each other in order to gather the four sacred authorities onto a single individual. At the same time, the higher their resistance to the laws of the world (Laplace Interference Authority) the better. The main character met this criteria by having a human consciousness despite being a dragon egg.

The MC eventually succeeds at meeting the conditions set by the sixth sage despite, or because of, his utter lack of ambition. The sixth sage appears in person to confirm his intention to free Foren and destroy the current world. It seems he’s from the same place as the main character and wants to return...? He also reveals that the MC must raise the Laplace skill to MAX and gives him a beating for not being more cooperative. The stakes have never been higher, so naturally the voice of God has sent the MC to a... tower (?) to grind. The MC sets forth with the intent to become strong enough to resist the gods.

Pros

  1. The premise
  2. The energy
  3. Ongoing backstory reveals
  4. Character progression is interesting
  5. A mix of unique and mythological creatures
  6. All major undead are lolibaba
Cons

  1. Lack of Cohesion
  2. Dispensable Side Characters
  3. Excessive side chapters from other points of view
  4. Character progression is nonsensical
  5. Contradictions
  6. Odd pacing
  7. Ending out of sight even 500 chapters in
  8. Occasional random chapters that make no sense and never come up again
  9. The occasional times the author pulls a joke ending where the main character dies (see 8)
  10. Ultimately this is still a weird mix of demon king, hero, et al cliches
  11. Weirdest not-harem I’ve ever scene. Black lizard is still best girl 500 chapters in
  12. When the enemies die it’s actually more tragic than fulfilling for various reasons. High rate of enemies just self-destructing.
  13. The same story could have reached this point in a third of the chapters without losing much depth

Overlord, Kumo Desu Ga, Slime Tensei Shitara, To Be a Power in the Shadows!, Youjo Senki... there is a reason this and other good chunk of WN's are popular, are well rated and become Light Novels and then animes... is because the MC and side characters are not dumbasses, yes you can write a naive and ''weak willed'' protagonist, but you need to develop and write the plot accordingly and reasonably, and of course strongly, not just throwing behavioral loops where the MC did not even think about itself and... more>> reflects and just charge to things without thinking (Reading 5 lines of ''what to doooo, im s*upid, whatever'' is not thinking).

Also the world building could be better, and the dynamic of ''I don't remember my past life but I was a submissive weak beta japanese is ingrained in me'' sucks at this point because is poorly written. It doesn't even makes sense why he felt he was human and not a Chinchilla.

Spoiler

He learnt Telepathy and never use it to clear things or help himself, he does not train, he does not investigate things, and he is always behaving in the middle between a dragon (a monster, a beast) and a human who is useless because his conviction, thoughts and way of life is totally in de synchronization with the humans and beings of that world; so he has no instincts nor a bright mind.

[collapse]

If you tell me that he is indeed a 3 year reborn whom miraculously gain intellect little by little being a dragon, I could pass a lot of things, but the way this is presented and developed is more like the MC is a totally useless person, there and on Earth and that he just stumbles across the least interesting, most dumbass and weakest things because a little actual somewhat complex thing would kill him and K.O. the web novel.

I'll give it three stars because is updated at a good pace and I can't buy every licensed Novel I like and have reading itches to scratch, but if other web novels find a translator, this is a hard pass after CH 50 or so. <<less

Really enjoyed this novel.

PRO:

  • Make me look forward what is his next evolution is and
  • Side Stories about what people think of him.
  • Didn't gave the be a human transformation card easily.
CONS:

  • Villains are just there to be Villains. Standard one dimensional Villains.
  • Grinding - feel tedious to me since I really don't care about the monster he's gonna fight.

It's a very good read if you can get past the first 50ish chapters that really fluctuate in translation quality. Some are good and others are little better than MTL. The story itself is pretty good and has some potential on where it can still lead. The MC can really be a bit of a dumb ass at times, but other than that I have no complaints.

This story (as the others have mentioned has bad pacing) is very good overall.

As a reincarnation story's ability to win over an audience is heavily dependant on the pacing and exposition this one (as you can see in the other comments) has leaned over towards exposition. Creating a gringfest and frequent status pages that take out the charm of these plot devices.

However I believe the story it is trying to tell is very good and enticing. The main character has an interesting dynamic with some entity forcing him to... more>> become "evil" while the damsel in distress character is likable and has reasonable motives. The main antagonist, however, feels like an incomplete product. He has no overarching motive and only gets into conflict with the MC in very subtle circumstances. And the tension of a time limit till the damsel in distress's death is virtually gone become of the pacing issue.

But things where I'm in the story shows much promise hence I recommend you start reading <<less

This WN is a good breather from all of those edgy, revenge driven MCs. Instead, this MC just wants some friends, and tries his best to get them, even to the point of putting his life on the line to do so.

+ Chapters are a good length, not too long or too short.

+ Author does a good job of making you want the next chapter

- Some of the writing may seem repetitive/simple (I jumped here, and then jumped there)

The MC actually makes decisions that impacts the story and exhibits growth. His available evolutions are determined by a karma system, keeping track of his evil and good deeds. So has a lot of day to day events building up to what happens later.

Spoiler

following RPG conventions, has an Appraise skill called "God's Voice" that gives him information on objects. This "voice" has its own agenda, urging the MC to 'become stronger.' Goes with the MC being naive that he has to rely on "voice" while it may have an independent goal

[collapse]

For growth, starts out as a monster that has the description 'kill on sight.'

Spoiler

Evolves into a stronger 'child' dragon that can fight other monsters. Then upgrading skills, going from being attacked to attacking other monsters to teamwork with other monsters.

Chapters are short (3 ~ 5 pages), so easier to sample from time to time than binge.

for full review:
Spoiler

Only problem I have with it is the 'Long Separations' tag is not to be underestimated. There are a few subplots that get hinted at and apparently dropped... evident there are gods, but guess MC has to be stronger to deal with them. And there are times where reader has spent a bunch of chapters with a character, then say goodbye forever to them. This feels unnecessary since there are chapters from alternate perspectives, writer could easily give an update every 50 or 100 chapters because there are unresolved points that the story seems like it should return to, but doesn't.

Aside from that, the story can be surprising without pulling tricks. Aside from the 'Wandering Egg' title to blaze through levels (and evolve quicker than other characters), other skills are achieved through his own effort. Story doesn't cheat by giving him a new skill out of nowhere or have an incredibly important item appear before him. It still contains surprises and builds to some satisfying moments.

Comes down to MC. Annoying that there is no context for this character aside from Japanese Male, nothing on previous name, age or how he died. Have to discover his character by his actions; naive enough to be lead astray but tries to be good, prone to acts of malice and compassion. He manages to be surprising, which makes him difficult to sell without spoiling what he does.

I skip over all the battles, they're so boring to read; though I don't think it's the main part of this novel. The only reason why I'm reading this is the main character is a dragon; seeing him dealing with dragon's problem in human's way. You would rather not seeing him act like a true Plague Dragon and go rampaging in the village, right?

The MC is s*upid, naive, etc... However, it's how the MC is. You can't ask for a MC of one novel to act like another's.

Read Chapters : 64

The only interesting thing going here is getting incarnated to a dragon + game elements. The MC is shortsighted and seemingly unable to adapt to his present situation. This story, at the beginning, had potential but is slowly going downhill. Plot is very slow. MC's appeal is disappearing. I don't see where this is headed...

i recommend to read this novel if you want a s*upidly ret*rded MC who is only alive due to plot armor.

also the real cringe worthy factor of this novel is the naivety of the MC. example he doesn’t want to use his skills because he thinks they are “evil”.

the MC pretty much only has one goal and this is to get a human form...

if I could rate less than 1/5 I would.

This dragon (and story) is pathetic, the author tried (and failed) to make the story sound cool by making our MC a dragon. Yet, he use this material poorly, there is nothing cool about a dragon dicking around hunting turtles. In Kumo Desu ga, our MC was a spider, so she started out weak but this sh** is a dragon, there is no point making him weak if we all know that he’s going to be OP anyway. All the battle are meaningless and boring, this is light novel, not... more>> a pokemon gamelog, no need to describe every mob battle with "it's not very effective" <<less

This started out decently until the dragon tried to befriend humans then it turned to sh*t in my opinion. I mean I get that he is lonely but he seems to forget he is a dragon easily and the fact the he just walked out in front of armed people just demonstrates how lacking in foresight he is. Then we have merciful adventures who let a potential fortune walk away because a girl in the party (which I don't believe because adventurers aren't supposed to be such gentle people)... more>> asked them to, I would think the senior guy accompanying them would be smarter. Anyways seems there will be some moments in the future which will irritate me greatly so I dropped it after that event. Good luck to anyone reading it and hope they like it better than me. <<less

It's good. I will describe it simply because I'm myself a simple individual. A hero striving to protect what's important to them. The fights are like shounen fights, all major battles felt unwinnable yet more satisfying it gets when he actually wins. The MC has great personality with moral. Not some h**ny vengeful teenager seeking his vendetta and creating s*aves harem. No harem, no edgy, no bullsh*t shock factor. 5/5

So... I actually thought the first few hundred chapters were the best. Now I’m on chapter 615 and, while I’ve read other similar web novels and light novels, it’s just nonstop fighting and leveling, fighting and leveling, fighting and leveling. There’s no real breather.

He fights someone for 2 chapters, someone else jumps in, he fights them for 3 chapters, his allies jump in and we get their individual point of view fights for 3-10 chapters or so each, and we go back to the MC fight where his enemy and... more>> 1 or 2 of their allies fight. His enemy uses trump cards/hail mary skills like 5 times plus or minus an enemy ally distraction, MC finally beats all the current enemies on the field but SURPRISE a new enemy jumps in from somewhere else. Repeat ad infinitum.

The only “breaks” from those battleground fights are fighting to test skills, fighting to find meat/food, and leveling plus some minor repetitive banter.

... gonna finish the series because a decently well written iseaki’d-as-a-monster story seems fairly rare IME, but admittedly I’ve been skimming more and more. It’s too bad that this story is probably gonna finish off basically like “and then there was no one else to fight, the end!” because I feel like the reader deserves a solid 100-200 chapters or so of depressurising “MC lives the quiet life he’s been searching for” aftercare. <<less

This novel has some potential. Various evolutions, arcs not too long, nice descriptions,...
But what is the problem then?

The MC. Already the first fault, it is still an MC who is reincarnated as a monster and who absolutely wants to become human/human-like again. And suddenly you have the eternal problems related to that, like not killing a human even if it's scum, since he's a former human he's nice and naive,... Come on, he's going to evolve over the chapters. Except that no, second and main defect, the character ironically... more>> does not evolve. It's the eternal idiot who wants to do good, it backfires and eventually he will struggle 30 chapters to compensate. It sucks.
Typically there, very slight spoiler, but he meets a character who has the titles Calamity MAX, Liar MAX, Path of Evil MAX,... And he believes it. And I don't even have to read the sequel to know it's a scam.

At first it's a bit boring, but why not. After more than 300 chapters, it's just annoying. <<less

This novel had potential but the MC absolutely ruins it.

I can tolerate a naïve or trusting MC but this MC takes it to a new level.

Despite having an overwhelming desire to socialize every time he sees anyone capable of basic communication he is a nervous wreck that can barely talk. There's constant stuttering, even in his own mind, and he remains one of the most spineless character I've ever seen.

The only good thing about this novel is the evolutions and the artwork, everything else suffers from the MC being a... more>> massive pushover with constant anxiety, despite becoming one of the most powerful beings alive. <<less

Man people are really over the fact that the MC is dumb and I kinda get it, but still that also adds into his character which evolves over time into becoming more a more mature and smarter character plus the world building is fantastic and the supporting cast is great and interesting and finally it's the only novel were the MC stays as dragon up into the latest chapter and doesn't transform into a human for the rest of the series
