In a romance novel called “The Secret Lovers of the Academy” the male lead would often torment his fiancée–but wait, why did she cross into this world to become his fiancée, the villainess, instead of the heroine?

Louise Sweeney found the perfect solution to escape the misfortune of being the villainess: “Your Highness, I just want to tell you that we don’t have to be tied with our engagement. We weren’t even officially engaged, right?”

But what was wrong with the male lead’s reaction? To her suggestion, he replied “But our engagement wasn’t false, don’t you agree?”

To be honest, I came here after reading its manga adaptation and was honestly quite disappointed as the novel was not up to expectation. It is sad that simon didn't have a partner even at the end. The story was mediocre, not very boring but also not interesting enough to make me want to read it again. The pacing and translation were good, but somehow the story felt like it was lacking.

Very sweet story 😊 Always had a smile on my face when I read this.. their love story is so sweet and pure like children... took me a long time to read tho because there wasn't much excitement...

Slow and easy read that will uplift you 😊 PS: I love the romance of the side characters 😁

I really love this story. The pacing may seem slow to others and the problems may seem contrived but I really love the relationships between all of the characters, especially our main trio. It’s just very fluffy and sweet how they can all rely on each other. I give it a 5 ^^

I really can’t stand this book. It is VERY slow burn.

It feels like every chapter is a conversation in an romance otome game.

If you really want to waste your time with something boring and very one-dimensional, you can give this a shot.

... more>> Also, some moments in the book just rubbed me the wrong way. Even their ages and how they are portrayed.

I had to stop reading this book at some moments cuz it was just so predictable, from their personalities, to just about everything.

It felt like taking the most cliché archetypes and putting them all into one book. <<less

Not the worst novel but verges on average and some parts are quite boring to read.

So basically the MC reincarnates as the villainess and decides that in order to prevent the villainess's tragic fate she will separate herself from the ML and be friendly with the heroine

The drama is quite low-key and not enough. For most of the chapters there no plot and is mainly filled with conversations between the characters in school. Its also too lighthearted for my liking.

Saving grace of the novel is that the FL is quite... more>> likeable and has a nice personality.

If your looking for a lighthearted, school slice of life romance novel thats easy and quick to read then you will probably enjoy this. <<less

A great and light humorous story. Even though, the FL seems dense, it's still acceptable. Every character has their own distinct personalities.

Definitely a fluffy slice of life.

My 4 star rating might be influenced by the fact that I rarely get to read a story that's completed and also my type so do keep that in mind. As a completed story that you can binge read, it's great and serves its purpose. But I found most of the interactions in the second half of the book confusing. Some of the decisions characters took didnt seem like they could be implemented in real life so I had a hard time believing their words. Also this might be personal... more>> opinion but I think there can be no pure friendship between males and females especially when one of them have feelings for the other but decides to give up. I know the book did a great job of explaining it—it hence the 4 stars— but personally it didn't sit well with me. I think it's still a great story tho

Annnd.... and I accidentally rated it 3. Go die me :') <<less

It was a simple and sweet read. It was cute to see the main 3 friends interact with each other, but there was less drama in the story than I expected. Because of that, I tended to skip over the long paragraphs while reading and I found it didn't really matter much, because tbh not a lot happens. A lot of the reviews might be a turn-off, but you should give it a read if you're into slice-of-life, slow-paced romance with not a ton of drama.

There ARE nice illustrations of... more>> the cute scenes every few chapters, so those are nice. They also have those little icon things next to whoever is speaking, which I like cuz I can actually tell who's talking.

If I could give this a rating out of 10 I'd give it like a 7.5/10 in the beginning but it goes down to a 6/10. Not the most amazing thing I've read, but not the worst either. Cute one-time read. <<less

Story seemed promising from the synopsis, but after too many chapters about mundane things happening between the MCs, I realised the novel has veerrrry slow main story progression. There's a lot of ban*l events that's mainly designed to tug at the heartstrings of young impressionable teenage girls. They're very pointless and contribute nearly nil to the overall story. A dying snail could easily outpace this story.

Spoiler

I can’t say this is the most interesting novel but I enjoy the simple read.. I wish they could have an epilogue where I could see the tiny version of Louise and Ian.. Or a special episode where I could read how Ian would react when Louise is pregnant.. But the ending is beautiful just like this story.. Anyway I like the translation a lot..

It's cute but don't expect much from the story line. It doesn't have any fancy/ major point.

It's a cute, fun read. I sat through the entire novel for that reason. It's not very creative but it's pretty well executed. Except for the ending in which

I can understand the general sentiment. Things will always go wrong and there will always be problems to solve along the way. But they never resolved the situation with Louise's maternal grandfather or the Lassen person. And that was quite irritating.

There are also some things that happen just as plot devices to get Louise into trouble, like when

Spoiler

Louise tries to stop a girl from tearing Stella's skirt, and ends up pushing Stella down the stairs and dropping her glass jar which breaks causing Stella to get cut. Like how about trying to stop the girl trying to tear Stella's skirt instead?

Overall, Louise is a kind, outgoing and studious person, and my favourite scene is the one where she gave advice to Ian as a child on his birthday. It feels like there's a more wise side to her character that I would have enjoyed getting introduced to. Ian as a male lead isn't domineering or pushy. This novel is basically a high school romance, don't expect a lot of revenge payback or... plot. Don't expect heavy politics and country governing either. But it certainly was an enjoyable read. <<less

It's a good read. It got a decent plot compare to other otome game settings.

I like the relationship of the leads. Also, it quite good that some characters who committed mistakes and sins got their own redemption wherein they were given a chance to change and be happy.

One of the sweetest, most innocent and romantic novel I've read so far. The special thanks to a translator for a wonderful language and sparkly conversations between characters. A sweet fairytale for a rainy day. Recommend.

I’m glad I wasn’t stop by the poor rating because, for once, I found a lot of smart in that story

so yes, part of it is predictable but I enjoyed how it was not a caricature and how most characters were not black and white. There are enough questions to add depth and feelings in a pretty common genre. The misunderstandings are not so thick that they become obstructive, the characters are not excruciatingly dense or psychotic. While it could certainly have been better in regard of the political background,... more>> it’s a good teenager story that probably stops where the real troubles should begin...

i’m an absolute Simon fan, and I found that character utterly precious and sadly under used.

the translation was great, but there’s a broken chapter when she gives revelations to the prince, also my browser what stuck with hiccup due to the amount of ads in the beginning, I hopefully survived these small flaws to enjoy than ok story that had just enough to keep me entertained a few evenings <<less

Translation: 4/5

Plot:2/5

Characters: 3/5

Tropes: tried and true

Standard transmigration into otome novel as the villainess and takes over the heroine role plot. MC is super in denial, ML is a little tsundere, and the supporting cast does their roles. Its an oft seen plot with no ground breaking developments. So, got bored and dropped it. The translation is fine, the format is a little odd, but understandable. Not a bad fluff read, just wasn't engaging for me.

The MC is one of the most infuriating thing for me. She is such a bloody push over. Like really, she is getting treated unfairly to a point where you could probably call it extreme bullying but does almost nothing to fight back or do anything. If I were her or if any normal self respecting person was her, we probably would have slapped the villain in the face already or complained to the higher power connections that we have so many of. Like she does so little to fight... more>> back, it makes me almost question if she is so much of a masochist that she likes getting treated like an idiot and getting physically injure. <<less

Nah, not for me. If it wasn't for the distracting picture format (and yes, I know that it's a problem with the raws and not on the translator, who does a good job btw), I'd probably stick around to read more of it because while it's rather unoriginal and somewhat bland in terms of plot and character, it's cute enough on its own if you like the genre. But for people who can't stand the chat box/almost text messaging format, the story and characters don't make it worth the effort... more>> to ignore the format. ¯_ (ツ) _/¯ <<less
