Gu Zuo: Are you sick?

Gongyi Tianheng: You have medicine?

Gu Zuo: You’re sick!

Gongyi Tianheng: If I say I’m sick, can you cure me?

Gu Zuo: If I say I have medicine, would you want it?

Gongyi Tianheng: However much you have is how much I want.

Gu Zuo: However much you want is how much I have.

Gongyi Tianheng: Then bring it all out.

Gu Zuo: …

Simply speaking, a scaredy-cat shou transmigrated and had to think of a way to survive. He had a golden finger called Medicine Refining System, but unfortunately, he didn’t have the ingredients needed to refine medicine and level up.

A great young master to an empire’s preeminent clan had a super high IQ, but his potential for cultivation was low. Unfortunately, pill refiners were too hard to develop, and weren’t restricted to his personal service. But he could acquire plenty of ingredients.

Two people, one was sick and one had medicine. Therefore, the one who was sick kept the one who had medicine, and everyone was happy.

Story is interesting. I like the ML and even though MC doesn't have much presence, I like him too. That being said i'll drop it for the time being, until chapters accumulate and I can read it all in one go.

Despite having really deep lore and plot, and requiring my full attention on this read, I rarely got bored reading this. The scheming is really clever, and I like seing it unfold. When the situation the story is narrating starts to get repetitive and stale, they move to different... more>> things and change it up completely. ML is simply my dream ML: charming, intelligent, likes MC, teases a bit and is a protective of him, but never overbearing and treting him like a possession/ not listening to what he wants. Extremely slow burn, but I actually prefer that they lay out a solid friendship first. I'm excited for things to come, I know it's very early in the story, but this won my heart.

Gu Zuo (MC) really admires ML and I think that he's a bit childish but in a cute way. He 's also not a maiden in distress, and though he has tecnically a more "passive" ability (being a pharmacist and all), he's very skilled at what he does, and can defend himself too. He's a pure bean, but smart enough to notice when someone is trying to manipulate him/ f*ck him over.

and I know, this story has 1000 chapters. That may seems overwhelming, especially when it's not completed, but let me tell you this is so good that I decided this is the hill I'm willing to die on

THE ONLY BUT I have is the s*avery thing that I didn't see anyone talk about. I GUESS I should have expected it, it's in a historical setting... but it really bummed me out how they just... bought s*aves. <<less

I don't really get the bad reviews. You can dislike or not be interested by a story, doesn't mean it's bad.

No plot hole, good writing. My only dissatisfaction is about the developpement of characters and the side characters. But the story is 1000+ chapters, so the MC and ML can grow up later on, I'm only on 200+chapters (MC is already slowly growing up). For the side characters, I'd only say that they don't really have a presence, they are forgettable. I don't know if it's because the MC and... more>> ML are on a journey, so they only meet people for a time and can't get too attached?

MC does have a personality, he is not dumb. He arrives in a world he doesn't know, with no money, family and different rules, people, culture, way of thinking. Of course, he doesn't act as a leader. The ML has less development of character as of now. He is a genius with an extra high IQ so once he is healthy, he grows fast. The MC understands the ML is trustworthy and has a higher IQ so he lets him handle the planning, connections, scheming,... and only does what he is good at: medicine, pills,... Thats kinda logic. Maybe people don't like that he isn't a take charge MC? But he already is starting to learn to see behind schems and to take important decisions since 100+ chapters.

You can't expect to have fast paced anything in a 1085 chapt. novel... But the interaction between the MC and ML is really natural. I like how much work the author did in the world building and hope to see a little more building of the ML. <<less

Imagine going into a slow-burn, 1000+ chapter novel like "I Have Medicine", and expecting the relationship between the MC and ML to skip straight to the romance? I can't believe some of the childish readers here have the audacity to give low star ratings just because it doesn't conform to their pre-existing concepts of romance. They must be too used to reading QT or UF type stories, or their reading comprehension is lacking.

New readers who're just beginning their exploration of BL and danmei might find it difficult to adjust to... more>> this novel. Veteran readers are more likely to enjoy this novel.

Read this novel if you're interested in world-building and relationship-building, not if you're looking for a "quick-fix". Also, I think there's only like five chapters throughout the entire novel that have explicit s*xual content? Hard to say, since those five chapters were taken down from the JJWXC site. <<less

  • Though it's good but I didn't like how controlling the ML is. The MC kept on being taken advantaged by the ML. And he (ML) ALWAYS gets the credits. Like wtf did you do there? He was very controlling, it's like making the MC feel that he was unable to live without him, but in a subtle way. The ML is useless without the MC but MC is not useless without the ML. He can always find other patrons. But can never find pharmacist like MC.
  • MC IS VERY DEPENDENT ON ML TO THE POINT EVERY MOVE HE MAKES "I MUST ASK YOUNG MASTER FIRST" someone even said his dependent attitude is cute, but hey it's not! IT'S VERY DISTURBING! ML made him like that. Overly dependent on him. DISGUSTING
Like if... more>> you think about about it, he was caging the MC. He is either his servant or s*upid b*tch who is naive as f*ck. ML is manipulative imo

They should have changed the main character since the MC didn't do anything but to be a s*ave for the ML

I miss Ling Xiao and Xiao Mo, so I'll read Legendary Master's Wife to remove this novel from my memory. <<less

Hey! This is a fantastic novel, and chrysanthemum gardens has done a very good job of translating without any awkward or difficult to understand language. They are still translating this novel, but you have to follow the instructions on their website due to copyright problems lately with translated novels. It really is a great book and if you are looking for something that doesn’t focus on the romance as the main subject and actually explores the world and cultivation itself (especially pill refining) this is a great novel to read!... more>> Please enjoy and support the author if you can afford to. <<less

This book has insanely detailed worldbuilding. It is very good. But unfortunately the characterisation is terrible! Every character is bland and follows the pattern of either being a cheerleader for the make leaf's awesomeness or a forgettable passerby.

The MC loses touch with his own unique aspect once the ML joins the plot. It's as if there is literally no time or ideas to develop or challenge the MC socially, financially or cultivation-wise. The MC stats as a mental child, naive and a little slow, always depending on the brains of... more>> the ML. This is not a problem at the start as we, the readers, use the MC's eyes to experience and understand this story's world.

But the MC has been delegated the role of a fanboy/cheerleader for the ML. His every thought process gushes about how awesome the ML is to the point of being tedious. Other than the system, there is nothing more to the MC!

The plot completely revolves around the ML (and so do the other characters). Everything that happens is caused by the ML's situation, condition, actions or ambition. While every other character is forced to looking in awe, even the MC is part of this mindless rhetoric. It becomes boring and the only good thing for most of it is the good worldbuilding.

As for the side characters.... they are forgettable. I have more to say about the cultivation techniques and types of medicines and pills in this story than any side character. <<less

I love this novel very much!

The chapter count felt daunting for a bit, not gonna lie, and the chapters themselves are surprisingly long. But it doesn’t feel like a drag to read, for me. They have reasonable explanations as to why they can’t exactly show off, especially with how our amazing our MC is, I can’t help but wish they would just steamroll over everyone with their superior talent. Talent doesn’t mean anything if you don’t have the cultivation and backing, sadly.

The BL isn’t in your face as much as... more>> most of the other BL novels, which is pretty great in its own way, since it’s not exactly their focus at the moment. Even people who don’t like BL can enjoy this, especially if they imagine that our MC and ML are just really that close. Really, really close.

This novel really deserves its high rating. Thank you to the author, translator and editor (s??) for their hard work! <<less

Idr what part I read up to other than MC starts to practice and training offensively with... uh mental power needles (?) but it should still be early on.

Anyway from the lead up to there it just feels like ML was just using MC for his meds and talents like I think ML was starting to feel the Bro we Are Bros :) but like nah.

You can probably say it felt more like MC was the gold finger for ML instead. While almost all ML all depicted as superior in... more>> every way in general novels, MC doesn't really have much of an opinion? (it's been a good while). I mean I guess you can argue well MC just transmigrated over and has no support at all so ofc he'd be dependent on ML but it was a bit ehh. <<less

Good story, the ML is almost "perfect"-good looks, wise (a little cunning), has air of elegance etc while the MC... probably like the typical Mary Sue.

however I don't like how naive the MC is. If this was not a danmei, the MC would probably be tricked and killed immediately.

Will drop.

The MC was transmigrated to be a powerful alchemist. I know the author was trying to make the MC cute to the point of being naive to the point of idiocy. The ML just use him to achieve his goal and just treated him as pill provider. The MC don't seem to have his own common sense. Always do what the ML told him to. Now I don't wonder why he was run over by a truck in his previous life.

2. If you already read transmigration novel before where the... more>> MC is intelligent, I don't recommend this. But if you're looking for the idiot MC with zero percent IQ, then this is the best for you.

OMG im still trying to continue reading hoping there'a miracle that may happen to MC level of intelligence

Read at tour own risk, but good job to the translator. <<less

Keep in mine, this was written in 2015 and ended in 2017. The author writing probably improved a lot. Fyi not quite similar to LMW, for me the only similarities is that they have similar MC and his occupation/skill.

I remember reading this long time ago because I want to read something similar to Legendary Master's Wife and dropped it. Trying to pick up again only to realize I still can't finish it due to the characters and plots.

The only thing I can praise is that the author quite good at... more>> world building. More detailed than LMW but

  1. I don't like the system
  2. Easily forgettable side characters.
  3. The romance is meh for me. I get its a slow burn romance but sometimes its feels non-existent/one-side. MC's character changed into worshipping everything ML do.
  4. Skipped a few chapters, this novel could easily end in Chap. 300 or so. The author dragged the plot a lot imo. Now I'm reread again, I feel like this is one of those Xianxia webnovels that existed to farm money from the readers (since its pay-per-chapter).
  5. Great beginning but easily got bored in later chapters (I read up till Chap. 400 and decide to quit reading)
  6. MC and ML too OP for me. I don't mind OP protagonists if it's done right.
I guess another reason, its too long for me. I love long chapters but if the plot too boring and repetitive for me. I don't have the energy to finish it. Is it better than LMW ? Me personally don't think so but it's up to you in the end to judge it. I think this is a generic Xianxia novel (only its in BL). I wish there were more novels that has the same setting like LMW and IHM. <<less

One of the best xianxia story I have read, great storyline. The best thing is that both protagonist and the lead has their own story and both of them growing their power together hand in hand. The plotline is different surprisingly it's not repeating at all. The writer can come up with different adventure Everytime both main lead and protagonist grow their power.

I saw so many good reviews so I went in with high expectations. I don't have much against slowburns so many reviewers' contraindications didn't seem to apply to me.

The start was good. World was interesting. Characters were still interesting. If anything, my main issue in the beginning is the confusing cultivation ranks. There was no one moment of exposition clearing up the various naming conventions and how Houtian #X related to Meridian #Y... author just went and introduced so-and-so with cultivation rank this-and-that then suddenly goes from Meridian 3 to... more>> Houtian 9. And I go like 'ehh?'

Hundred chapters in, my main gripe reveals itself. My main dislike in many harem/reverse games and otome anime/manga is the blandness and uselessness of the MC despite their claimed legendary saintess or whatever power to make the harem members and love interests shine (and it being easier to SI into). Here, the MC is made inutile by the lengths they go through to hide his awesomeness to avert disaster. However, they don't even bother much to hide the awesomeness of the similarly gifted ML. Continually seeing this antithetical juxtaposition is torture. If they wanted to protect him, they need not hide as much as they did.

Spoiler

ML fights people a bit above his realm, solves a million quora questions, and promotes a major realm within 2 months of joining the sect. But for MC, they made him pose to be major realm lower, and pretend to not know much refinement techniques (despite being the source of the recipe and already answering several issues in the same quora system which should all be a matter of public record).

[collapse]

I know he's timid, but couldn't the author just opted to make him into some kind of genius hermit instead of just a simp? His reputation would protect him while still avoid undesirable social contact.

And another thing is this affair displays a type of pairing I really dislike: one wherein one partner is too servile and simp-y. I like pairings where they are both people with lives outside their partner but still better together. MC makes ML his whole world and barely has any personal goals outside of going back home which, as it turns out, he seems pretty lukewarm about. In the oft-quoted in this review section LMW, main pair YXM and LX both have their own personal goals that they pursue and also their couple goals. Their relationship seems very unequal with how domineering and selfish LX is; but they are actually pretty equal in that they don't really dominate the other's life direction. In IHM, GZ is developing into the classic docile, servile and worshipful housewife that I just can't. I literally can't. YXM takes the reins of his life with occasional tugs by LX; GZ has happily handed his to GYTH.

I would give this story a 3 for over-all quality, but I'll deduct one for incorporating my pet peeve.

[EDIT: I have now reached ch900+ and I gotta both laugh and shake my head at the image the author wants to present. They really want to push the subtext of the humans being victims and underdogs to the myriad 'foreign' races despite a closer look at the situation leads to a reasonable man binning the thought. All I see now is the hypocrisy and victim mentality that the humans here display. In a grand interspecies event, human leaders lament how much weaker they were and them only having a handful in the top 50.. but when you count just how many participating species there are, 10% human representation is a landslide.

Humans see the others as enemies as the other races eat humans (not all of them do as it turns out) and thus can't work with them.. but it turns out that several of those member species do prey on each other, yet they can still work together under the umbrella of the myriad races. Unlike the humans who treat themselves as special and very different from the others. It just tells me that the humans here are bigots and only wish to seek homogeneity. I cannot help but see the pagoda of the myriad races as a concerted effort to resist being undermined by human hegemony, seeking to resist the one race by the power of their many, and we readers are just led to think one way due to the biases of the narrator. When there are races who prey on each other yet still able to come together under a single banner, why can't the humans seek to do the same? Why did they have to separate themselves from the other races?

There are many xuanhuan and xianxia works that present a more complex racial interplay than this one. If no acceptable answer comes by the end of the work, my disdain for this work will only worsen. I cannot believe some reviewers rate the worldbuilding here so highly, when so many other worlds in novels of the same genre are much better thought out and nuanced in terms of cultivation rules, geography, history, economics and geopolitics.
For example:]
Spoiler

Later on, it turns out that super sects harvest treasures by looting dead worlds - vitality died and can no longer support people. They go to a major sect there and raid various treasures. But think about it for a moment; your world's energy is getting thinner yet you have eras' worth of resources sitting in your treasury. What do you do? Aren't you going to rely on those resources to instead to sustain yourself? It's not like it was sect destruction as their were still many grand pagodas standing. Unless it was an instant wipeout, people surviving would use up remnant treasures. And in the case of holy lands, wouldn't they have ways to move off-world? I would drag all my treasures and move elsewhere.

"MC is the most submissive, unintelligent MC I have ever met. I usually complain when a FMC gets carried by the Male Lead and is basically reduced to a pet. This MC is a pet, he scampers behind the ML, he obeys the ML, the ML gives him head pats. The MC is an OP pharmacist and doctor - but the ML gets all that credit. The MC also doesn't make a move without the ML telling him to. The ML also knows and uses the system and the MC's... more>> space - because the MC is too fragile and naive to be trusted with his own inheritence."

"If you want to read about pill refining I'd recommend The Legendary Master's Wife and I shall Seal The Heavens. Merely, spare yourselves this claptrap. " LMAO the reviewer literally just described the plot of The Legendary Master's Wife. That's all I have to say. Power Gap in The Legendary Master's Wife say what. That is why I quit that novel. ML in The Legendary Master's Wife could also enter MC's hidden space but since he's already OP he didn't bother using it.

Why does the MC not get credit? Maybe cuz there are stronger people than both ML and MC that can slap them into dust. The Legendary Master's Wife had OP ML already built up while this novel's ML is still building up.

This is the best cultivation BL The Legendary Master's Wife was a joke of a cultivation novel. It was for h**ny kids. <<less

I loved this novel, first of all I am not used to such long stories because I get bored after reading so many chapters, but this novel is as entertaining as the legendary master wife, each chapter leaves you hooked, but I feel that it is not explained very well the way of cultivating in this world, at least not for someone with little experience in cultivated novels.

First of all, I loved the MC, he is a bit silly but not in such a way that they have to take... more>> care of him, but rather that he has logical thoughts and smart that even without it ML can become just as powerful. But the ML is just as amazing too, I'm glad that it can be great without relying on anything and anyone.

The way their relationship grows makes it more realistic, I'm not underestimating fast love novels but it's refreshing to see how love grows little by little, I won't lie to you, sometimes I want to go into the book and yell at them to get together at once, but it's still cute.

Even the system is more reliable than other systems I read, it's fair and kind with rewards, and at the same time strict as to encourage the protagonist to improve, not like the systems that are so useless or very bad.

As I mentioned before I feel that this is not a novel for those just starting out with cultivated or xianxia but once you get the hang of it you will see that this is one of the great bl stories ever written.

Let’s start with the good. The translator did an amazing and meticulous job on this novel. So a big thumbs up to them!

Now for the novel in itself. Neither great nor bad. It’s something to kill time with. Part of the problem is mostly because, even for a cultivation novel, the MC and ML became OP very quickly (in the first 50 chapters of a 1000 chap novel). Well, mind you, it’s always relative to where they are atm, but you get what I mean. Plus, the cultivation in... more>> itself was very vague and succinctly described and you get very little introspective parts, which cut off part of the fun. It’s more a detailed chronology of how they rose to power and the MC and ML day to day life.

Also, I might be a fan of slow romance but their relationship was just as bland as can be. The devotion both of them felt was explained but still... the range of their feelings toward each other and the way they expressed it was defined by roughly 4-5 words or gestures that kept being repeated in 80% of their interactions. Like the MC had a “warm gaze”, or a “smile” or the ML “ruffling through Gu Zip’s hair”... Excuse me?That’s romance? Hold my chair, I’m swooning too hard.

Do yourself a favour and Just read “Legendary Master’s wife” instead. It might have devolved into something nonsensical towards the middle and end but it had it’s high points at least. <<less

Y'all know like in those typical BG xianxia level-up novels that every protagonist needs a cheat-like ability right? Well this book is kinda like that, but from the golden finger's perspective.

In the beginning, the MC is described to be quite weak and soft, but later on he learns how to fight and can actually stand his own ground. I really like the equality in this novel and how the ML isn't just pampering and carrying the MC all the time, but instead the MC sometimes carries the ML.

If I could... more>> compare this novel to any other one, It would definitely be LMW (Legendary Master's Wife) since they have just about the same concept (MC is a alchemist/doctor type of dude and ML is the fighter) and if you've ever tried LMW, I guarantee that this one should be good too! Of course, they're not having smex every 5 seconds like in LMW, but I really do appreciate the time an effort the author put into the worldbuilding and storyline.

PS. I think I'll be 80 by the time all 1000+ chapters of translations are out TwT <<less

I’ll be honest. I’m not seeing the hype from the other reviews and comparison to Legendary Master’s Wife other than the progression in alchemist abilities and the couple being OP. I have to drop this after 200+ chapters.

This is really slow build for everything, not just romance, imo. I’m also disliking how the MC is still acting as a shadow and subordinate of ML. He seems more like hype character to showcase how awesome ML is. Is ML the main character or the MC?

I’m not looking for an OP MC... more>> generally loved by everyone (because MC does have his own skills and already changed ML’s life), but MC is more like a background character. He is so dedicated and acts as a loyal follower of ML that it’s just so annoying to read him hang onto every word from ML, fully trust ML even though they’re not that close yet and ML could only be said to be fond of him platonically, and MC clinging onto him like no different from a stereotypical female protagonist. Way too dependent on ML and naive for my tastes.

I do have to say the story is well written and the scenes are descriptive (even the fight scenes). I just don’t like the MC and ML currently, and the power imbalance is too much for me. I understand other reviews are saying that things pick up and change for the later chapters, but I just don’t have the patience to wait for later chapters to see how they slowly become equals of the same standing like 400 chapters later. <<less
