The Female Supporting Character Ran Off With The Bun

Chi Ying transmigrated into a supporting female character who ran off with the bun in a CEO novel.

According to the plot, she and her child would become the obstacle between the male and female lead’s relationship. Their story arc would conclude with the destruction of her family.

As a result, Chi Ying decided to treasure her life and stay away from the male lead.

Later, the male lead cornered her. There was a burning darkness in his eyes, and his knuckles pale.

In his cold and deep voice, he said, “No more running away from me…”

Chi Ying frowned slightly. That’s not… how she remembered the story arc.

The entire country knew that Lu JingYan, CEO of Oushi, was cold, classy, had moral integrity, and never talked to a woman more than it was necessary.

It was only that he was also handsome, tall, and a living representation of limitless wealth and status.

His female fans gave him the endearing nickname CEO of the People.

But one day…

Lu JingYan suddenly appeared in a variety show called “Where Did Daddy and Mommy Go?”

Pitter-pattering behind him was a mini Lu JingYan.

Audience all over the country: ? ? ? ? ?

Big disagree to the first two reviews. You were quicklt to judge the ML even though you haven't finished reading the novel yet, making a misunderstanding to those readers who wants to read the novel and enjoy it.

YES, this is a cliche novel but the twist at the later chapters makes up with that shortcomings. Don't judge the characters in the middle of the novel.

I rated this 4 stars because of the cliche world setting part. But other than that the story is good, it will definitely hook you up... more>> if you're still not bored with this kind of setting.

Spoiler

The ML isn't the type that you would hate, He's practically suffering in the past life and in the current life and being accused of something that he doesnt even know of

Spoiler

the FL didnt transmigrate to a book, it's her past life where in agter she died, she got reincarnated into another world (without her past life memories) and transmigrated to her past life where her child is still (2-3 years old, 4 years before she died in her pasg life) thinking she transmigtated into a book, she will later on regain her memories and also the ML which will. THIS IS GOLD.

But it's only worth reading if you stick to the end, the gold starts in about the 80th chapter.

I read this expecting the typical CN modern transmigration plot with domineering CEO, and I did get that, but it was so much more.

Remember that cliched shallow transmigrated MC subtype that can't emphatize and would do everything to avoid the plot just because she thought the original body is much s*upider, vain, or spoiled than her? In the first 2/3rd part of the story, MC followed that type, but surprise... more>> SURPRISE!! Turns out she's not that cliched shallow transmigrator after all.

Spoiler

It turned out that this life is her 3rd one, that took place in the same world as her 1st. So technically she reincarnated there a few years back before her death after being reincarnated and spent a lifetime in another world. She was killed in a car accident by ML's fiance in the 1st life and got cancer in her 2nd. Because of her death in the 1st life, she had a trauma that prevented her to get intimate with the ML. She previously thought that the current world is inside a book and she's transmigrated there, but eventually she remembered that it's her original world.

[collapse]

And our domineering CEO ML turned out to be not as domineering and a*sholey as the other cliched ML in similar genre.

Spoiler

There were lots of dog bloods and misunderstandings, but basically ML tried to find MC in their 1st lifetime, but someone impersonated her. In the 3rd one, MC met him earlier so ML was able to recognize her from the start. ML got PTSD because he remembered how she was killed by the imposter in the 1st lifetime and always felt guilty. He was the reason she was able to reincarnate.

[collapse]

ONLY READ IF YOU'RE COMMITTED IN READING THE STORY TIL THE END.

Otherwise it'd just be another overly cliched shallow CN modern showbiz transmigration novel. <<less

I read the raw up to ch 61 and got bored so I read here and there after.

The story does not stay true to the summary....

Very sad, this this feels like one of those " I'm gonna stay away from him but I can't stay away from him BUT3 I will try hard to stay away from him BUT4 I'm not really gonna stay away just gonna pretend that I will" novel.

Spoilers not in order

Spoiler
  • ML keeps having dreams or MC's death in 1st life after he meets MC
  • Later when ML meet son he keeps dreaming of son's death
  • MC also have nightmares
  • By ch40-42 ML found out he has a kid
  • ML meets son on his kid's d-day
  • MC's identity is a secret from everyone so no one knows her fam has a daughter. didn't read why tho
  • ML will remember 1st life
  • Turns out that 1st life is real and not just a book, meaning 1st life MC dies and is reborn in a different world where she dies from a sickness and then is reborn back to 1st life. Does this make sense to you guys?
  • Turns out that the OriFL tried to pretend it was her who slept with ML but it was actually MC
  • OriFL in 2nd life was told by her manager/agent? to sleep with this dude (gonna call him D1) and guilt trip him into giving her the main chara role in a drama, but MC ends up getting it cause of ML
  • D1 ends up going down the wrong path cause of OrigFL, and is tricked by OriFL to pay her debts from her debt collector, but he ain't got enough $$ so they both screwed

This novel does an interesting take on transmigration/reincarnation that I haven't really read in other novels and for that I do find the plot unique. What bugs me and this is the case for Chinese novels in general is the underlying idea that someone who is most beautiful must also be the best. The author mentions the MC's beauty so many times as if to allude that it is the beauty that makes her unique and good. I think this kind of writing does a disservice to her actual character... more>> strength.

Also I am surprised there isn't a psychological tag on this novel. It's got a fair amount of angst and drama and made me feel emotional and sympathetic to past events. I think the author wrote the MC's personal story well and I can really feel her internal struggles. This is probably the best written part in the novel.

One thing this author does poorly is in her side characters. Aside from the core MC, ML and bun, no one else is really fleshed out and even the villains are just your usual novel villain backstory of chunibyo syndrome. MC aside for the most part is pretty bland outside of the angsty bits and there is not a lot explored in her character development and the ML gets even less love. It's the type of novel where the characters actions are described more than their thoughts and personality. While some people don't mind this, my preference leans towards more personal stories. I want to get to know the characters deeply and I feel like aside from the MC, I couldn't really connect with any other character in the novel or know how they tick. It just makes everyone lack dimension. If only the author could replace every description of how beautiful the MC is and how hot the ML is, with actual character insight, maybe this interesting plot could actually have some more substance.

Like the other comments, I'd say it's an okay read as long as you know this isn't your typical overbearing president romance novel. It's not even really that romantic. The latter half had a great plot but execution was lacking in taking the interesting ideas and really polishing what could have been a unique twist to this genre. Do read it if you want something different, but don't expect it to be romance and sunshine. <<less

Warning: The MC is an extremely low IQ arrogant and slow woman.

Spoiler

The first thing she does on knowing she’s a cannon fodder in a novel is... nothing. Not only does she not try and save money (which any person with a brain could do, not only does she actively go into an industry led by the ML when she says she wants to avoid the ML, but she also: doesn’t protect herself at all, tries to audition on her own even though supposedly she was a star prior to this and should know the entertainment industry, doesn’t attempt to hide her son, doesn’t try to help with any industry, doesn’t attempt to make connections, and acts as if nothing happened even after a scumbag Chinese fodder guy attempts to assault her. There’s so much wrong here and that’s the very tip of the iceberg in the first six chapters.

[collapse]

Forgetting any victim blaming, the MC actively props up as many death flags as possible (or romance flags) interacting with the ML and not attempting to even move her location.

If you knew that your family would go bankrupt and your industry would fail as well as your child suffer if his father discovered him, would you ACTIVELY live in the same neighborhood, say nothing to your family about the industry, save 0 money, and try and enter an entertainment industry that you don’t have particularly high skills in? (Only being a second female character)

Sigh.

And that’s not even taking to account the nonsense that fills the mid and late half of the book and the slow romance.

-3000/10 avoid. <<less

I couldn't finish it. In my opinion, the MC is too much of a Mary Sue. Every chapter is filled with descriptions of just how radiant she is and how no one can even be jealous because she's just perfect. She's kind to everyone, super smart, and even skipped around five years in school. She's a super talented actress who can play any role or emotion without even trying, even her singing voice is "melodious". Honestly, she's too perfect it's unrealistic.

The ML is a stalker. That's all I can say.... more>> Probably there's some reason why he's acting differently than in the original novel, but I can't be bothered to read any more to find out.

The translation is pretty good though. <<less

This is a cliché, Mary Sue story with the strongest plot armor ever and about a thousand plot holes. The writing is mediocre and the translation is readable -but definitely not the translator's best work.

I would not consider it an entertaining read but it is dark enough to keep me engrossed. While the blurb sounds kinda like the usual fluffy childcare story at first, the majority of the characters are living a life with more drama than a telenovela. Whether they live in a book or not, they all get... more>> f*cked up by their surroundings at one point or another.

Outside of random passersby forgotten as soon as the chapters change, the characters are dark and the story shows the dark side of the entertainment circle. Unfortunately, all of this is led by a pretty uninteresting heroine, with Mary Sue tendencies, inconsistent behavior and a female lead halo brighter than the sun. It makes the whole somber part of the story comes as awfully convenient most of the time and decrease the thrill we could get out of it.

But despite that and the original terrible writing, this novel avoid complete failure with its lingering darkness mentioned above and its deranged, stalker of a male lead. While he is not love interest material, he has the deepest character of them all and is the only one with a genuine development and backstory. Him enough makes the whole thing more interesting.

So if you are looking to the next masterpiece, this is not it. But if you just want to read something not particularly brilliant but somewhat psychological and darker and deeper than it seems, this might pick up your interest. <<less

Thought it was good because im a sucker for showbiz and babies but sigh... MC is nice and cool but ego boosters in literally every chapter makes it hard to read. There's always something about her transluscent jade like skin or makeup less face that still 100% looks better than everyone and somehow literally every male character likes her.

Side character mls are a f*cking psycho but props to MC because she actually CALLED THE POLICE!!! which is nice!

ML is your cliché domineering CEO whose only personality is being a psycho... more>> towards the MC and probably putting his company at risk just for MC if this were to happen in real life.

So, I came here for cute, fluffy and sweet story.

However, it's deep! It's kind of creepy and sickening. It's like showing the dark side of the world. Not realistic but realistic (hard to explain) 🤣

The female lead seems level headed and smart, she works really hard and loves her son.

... more>> The male lead, he is definitely op! He is creepy because he seems like a yandere and a stalker.

Like I do appreciate a yandere in the story, but sometimes it's too SCARY especially if you put yourself in the female lead's shoes, like the male lead has a gps tracking device on her. He seems like trying to control her.

Well some may argue with me that his actions are justified. Well to some extent they are, but till chapter 94, I still can't find a reason to like the male lead.

I mean, he is powerful, rich and handsome. But I want his personality to shine as well, all I can see from him is possessiveness!

Well I hope that I will be able to see how he will improve. I mean I did read the spoilers from other reviewers XD

So, I guess some of his actions are kind of justified.

And I just wanted to clarify that I give this novel 4 stars because it is really interesting, it captures your interest and as I have explained before I did read the spoilers so hence I can understand the male lead's actions, but till chapter 94 in the translated version, you might find things weird, since the author hasn't disclosed the reason behind male lead's actions, and yeah there is no romance so far.

Warning: This is a disguise! This novel isn't that fluffy! It's dark and has hidden conspiracy! If you came here for light hearted and fluffy novel, you came to the wrong place! <<less

Honestly just not my cup of tea. It’s not bad per say but I just hate when the FL acts that way. She seems kinda dumb to me. I’m dropping it so early because of that. So I’m giving it 2 stars since I don’t know how it’s going to progress.

Cliches just as the title. It’s a good read to waste time. Same old Iceberg type man falls for one night stand with a bit of a twist. FL is okay just wished she didn’t get together with that type of man. Very predictable.

Hmm.. The novel started off great but gradually down the lane, it just doesn't stand out.

The MC initially is shown as a strong, independent women who loves her son and tries to stay away from the ML and live their life happily. BUT SHE DOESNT FOLLOW IT.

she avoids the ML like a plague in the beginning and then suddenly after taking care of him for night, she changes COMPLETELY..... Its not shown that she starts liking him anywhere at all. She just starts being nice to the ML and BANG... more>> she asks him to be together and they start dating. And then her character changes completely and she completely depends on him for EVERY LITTLE THING.

As the story goes on, it shown mostly about her acting career and she totally forgets the baby? WHERE did the strong independent mother who does everything for her child go to?

There is no character development for the MC at all. It becomes worse. She keeps thinking the baby is the most important person to her BUT she does nothing to protect him. All her plans were to be doomed from the beginning.

    • She gets into the entertainment field even knowing that she would definitely meet the ML. I know she is student of arts department, but there were a lot of other things she could have done. BUT SHE DOESNT.
    • She tells her director that the baby is her relatives and she is his god mother IN FRONT OF HER BABY. she doesn't explain this to him properly either. His grandma explains to him. He will be crying so much.
    • After spending one night taking care of the ML, she suddenly changes and dating the ML and introduces their son to him. Why the hell did she blame the ML for everything in the beginning and try to stay away from him then? She TOTALLY FORGETS that both mother and son would have died due to the ML during their first life.
Her beauty is praised sooooo many times and basically every male character falls for her. She is also really s*upid, even knowing the people have dug a trap for her, she walks straight to it? WTF??? And this was when she dint have the ML protecting her. What she was thinking she could do by herself when she is weak as a chicken is beyond me.

I was really disappointed with how the novel started great and then went down the drain. <<less

I'm enjoying it so far, but I'm concerned. As it stands now, the FL does not like the ML, and it's hard to imagine an interesting romance developing. The author is also being too mysterious about why the ML is acting differently from the original novel. At this point I question whether the "secret" could be worth the wait.

However, the translation is good, and I love the FL's persistence and bravery.

I have finished the story in the raws. And I actually liked it a lot. It's a bit less fluffy and more psychologically heavy than the original stories of the title, but still a pretty light read.

is due to some untold factors.

Later the relationship develops, also due to more practical reasons than emotional, as this story likes to throw you questions on the validity of love at first sight, and that things that you believe are that way because of a first glance are actually not real.

And you can see this when...

Spoiler

We discover that the Shu Bai we have been reading about in the beginning is not the Shu Bai from the book, which is later introduced. That the relationship between the ML and FL from the book wasn't the way it was pictured, instead it was way darker as the ML had his thoughts but not feelings for the original FL. Instead she was just a substitute. Anyways...

[collapse]

But in the end I must comment something about Cheng Huan. Ik there are many people who are going to say that the obvious choice of ML for the protagonist is Lu Jingyan, buuuut. That's only because this novel has no 'Yandere Male Lead' tag, otherwise he is a perfect fit for the ML role : Delusional, violent, rich, with childhood underlying issues, doesn't ask for the protagonist views but tries to push on her everything he seems fit, wants to force physical contact but can bear her fits even though he would never be as 'nice' to other people around him. You name it.

Oh, and ps: I really wanted more of Chengcheng, sniff. My cute lil' bun!! <<less

I've got some mixed feelings about this story, and they aren't positive. I'm definitely not going to finish it because I read 'til Fringe Capybara announced they were dropping it and mentioned the story getting darker, then I went through reviews to check spoilers and I just lost interest in continuing. I wanted more light-hearted fluff than what I imagine this is going to become based on the reviews I read and I also don't love the way the romance was (finally) advancing (this is not a positive review, but... more>> it is my opinion) :

Spoiler

It read like MC just felt bad for assuming the worst of the ML despite him legit being a creep the entire time up to that point and decided to give him a chance (with an extra push from her friend that she should give her son 'the chance to have a father').

I really wanted to make this short because I always feel bad complaining in reviews, but the ML did some upsetting things beyond the stalking that a lot of reviews are mentioning.

I'm generally good with possessive/obsessive love interests, but the one thing that got under my skin was the ML dragging and pushing MC around when he was really worked up. This happened twice that I remember: the first time she had just been confessed to and ML shoved her into his car before she could reply to the guy and she ended up lying and telling him she loved the guy that confessed to her to get ML leave her alone and let her out of the car. The next time I can't recall the exact circumstances, but he followed her (as usual) to a place where she was walking around with a male friend, the friend went to the bathroom, and ML came out of nowhere to drag MC away. ML was tightly holding her wrist when her friend finally found her and noticed she was visibly uncomfortable, so he interrupted them and he walked her back to the place she was staying with the ML insisting on going with them. Oh, and then he showed up outside the glass doors of the place she was staying and stared at her creepily until she eventually agreed to go outside to talk to him.

Like. I could get past him putting spyware on her phone (by pretending to be a different person that she was friendly with) that let's him track her phone's location anytime he wants and stalking her. But how is he supposed to be likable when it feels like he's one step shy of hitting her when he's jealous? I'm here for a good time, not... that.

'Oh, but he has a good reason for acting like that!' I did actually read to that point of the story, and while it's decent justification (fictionally) for the stalking, he was too physical in his actions towards her out of jealousy that I'm personally not interested in him as an ML.

The final nail in the coffin of my interest in finishing this story is all the crap with the 'original female lead' that's been building in the background but somehow hasn't come to a head yet (it was making me nervous). I've got extremely low tolerance for past relationship drama even if the relationship between the ML and OFL only happened in the first timeline because of manipulation. I just don't like it. I don't know the exact circumstances of their relationship or how far that relationship went as I didn't get to the part that explains that, but I'd rather not know at this point.

[collapse]

4 star score is because I don't like giving negative scores to things that I don't like just because it hits my squicks. <<less

the start was interesting, if I ignore the constant mention of how pure and pale MC is...i don't know why authors are obsessed with mentioning how pretty their MCs are for almost every paragraph.

sadly, I lost interest bc 100+ chapters in and the plot barely moved. I really got spoiled by the author of "to be a virtious wife" their novels didn't exceed 200 chapters but they've explored a good chunk of arcs that doesn't feel rushed. I wish more webnovelists would follow the quality over quantity but maybe they have to spit out chapters fast for contract reasons?? idk...
