“The son of god Gula has returned.”

I was lost in the world of gambling.

I turned my back on my family and even betrayed my lover.

I wasted every day of my life.

It was a life of tr*sh.

The reality told me thus:

That I would amount to nothing no matter what I did.

In order to change my pathetic life, I chose fantasy, instead.

Even then, it was the same story.

I wondered if salvation would come at the end of the long road.

But, I was forced to kneel down in defeat in front of a powerful entity.

The tower I built up with my own hands crumbled into nothingness.

Just for once, I dearly wished to know the truth about myself.

“Come closer, my child…”

I will not hold back this time.

Ok, first of all why MC is not op and I don't why. Ok leave this point. But the thing is MC suddenly changes into playful and pe*vert and why does he train so much no, really. The ending is "slightly" rushed but ultimately it depends upon your views. But still after this much rant, I pretty much recommend for beginner readers but for veterans I don't think so it will amuse you. So go ahead and read it. <<less

I have been reading for a long time and as a result, have developed a habit of skimming and skipping entire lines because generally speaking, I wouldn't miss much regardless. But that is not the same for this story. The battle scenes in this novel are phenomenal. They are so well described that I force myself to go back and read the same paragraph several times to make sure I have the full picture. Along with the battle scenes are the many despair-inducing moments the main character is put through... more>> have my heart racing. Then there are the moments of absolute hype and triumph where I have to just stand up and walk around to calm myself. I am a romanticist at heart and I do really appreciate the relationship between the protagonist and his love interest.

The main story is a 10/10 in my opinion.

There are also 60 side story chapters that turned the series from a super heavy and serious shounen to a slice of life/comedy. I believe this is rightfully so because there isn't much for the main character to do after he has accomplished his goal. The side story focused a lot on his relationship with other girls because (slight spoilers) he gets a harem at the end. I can appreciate harems and I did like the chapters regardless of how contentious they were to others. But even though there were 60 side chapters there was barely an exploration into the backgrounds of other side characters. I feel that there could have been more chapters and characters could have been better explored. Not to mention I think that things got a bit too ridiculous at times.

In the end, I give the side stories a 7/10 <<less

Best of the best.

Action is gorgeous. Plot is also rich. Romance is lacking a bit as some of the good characters didn't get enough exposure like eun yuri and chohong. Still a great novel nonetheless. Enjoyable till the last word.

Average.

overrated novel.

Most of the good things I heard about it is the character development. Characters are nothing special, author gave them quirks and some loud characteristic to make them more striking. I hate these type of stuff, the characters don't feel realistic.

... more>> The premise and the world building is absolute shit.

The gods are illogical, and they summon people as s*aves and the author and the god act like the players should give a sh*t about and risk their lives saving the alternate world. If you don't risk your lives you are tr*sh?

The author kept world building to a minimum. No matter how much powerful you are in the Paradise, only thing you gain in reality is money.

The final fight is a joke.

The MC is not a beta JP MC, he is not shy or afraid to talk in front of girls. He is prety fine.

A good book if you want to read something different. <<less

The tags are all accurate. They dont happen at chapter one so dont expect for MC to be Clever and Smart right off the back. Speaking of this some people complain about his romance about how he blushes and is like a Japanese MC. But here's the thing.
Spoiler

His ex girlfriend basically brainwashed him from a young age and his mother helped. Theirs a reason why the Ex isnt the main heroine. If anything shes close to last than first. All his relationship faults are at least 80% her fault. Number one heroine is Seo Yuhui. I believe is her name. The naming in here isnt the most imaginative.

All in all this is my favorite Novel. There's a reason it has so many 5 stars. You have to read more than 30 chapters to rate it 1 or 2 stars imo. He's not even in the other world until after the training and whatnot. And if you read the whole thing or 100 or so chapters in and still didnt like it then this type of novel just isnt for you. Its about a piece of Scum who wasted his first life and restarted and put his heart and soul into not going back to how he was. There's some life lessons in this novel too. Biggest one is best not to gamble,

After reading the entire series, I can sum up the story in a single word: phenomenal.

If you want an amazing story that keeps you on your toes, stirs up some heavy emotions, and even provides moments of adrenaline, then this is your next read. If that's all you care about, and you don't want to read the rationale, peace. Have fun. You won't regret it.

Otherwise, here it goes:

Some reviews on NU seem to be bad, but don't be turned off by them. This novel has great overall ratings for a... more>> reason, and if you take negative reviews too seriously, you will be missing out. Reading some of these reviews, they mostly attack the MC's character and deus ex machina moments. Unsatisfied with the world building, some of these reviewers even dropped the novel early. Those who made it to the end instead criticize the work itself, saying they had "expected more." They dislike the MC's seemingly "effortless" or "scripted" path towards success.

I understand that everyone's entitled to their opinion, but looking back after reading the series two or three times, I'm going to have to disagree. Without spoiling anything major, the MC does develop a bit in the first third of the story, however, it is true that he is blindly going forward in a weak attempt to atone and restart. He does not reflect on his wrongdoings, and he recklessly throws himself into serious danger, and his handling of personal relationships is dismal and frustrating. Yet, somehow, life is alright as long as he goes back to Paradise.

Here, I can understand why most people with bad ratings dropped off around the first 100-150 chapters. In spite of inconsistencies, life seems to be going too well for our protagonist; the plot armor is thicker than my physics professor's accent. If they read a bit further, however, they would encounter a moment in the story where everything goes to shit, one of the most badass moments ever penned is described, and our MC finally begins to properly develop as a person rather than as a warrior. As of this moment, we are not even halfway through the story, and not nearly finished experiencing the author's masterful way of writing battles.

Again, I cannot describe more to you without spoiling certain things, but let me say that it is only near the last 100 chapters of the main story where the greatest character development happens. Moreover, all those Deus ex Machina moments are finally explained, an amazing plot twist is introduced, and we as readers are able to form some of the greatest attachments to the MC and the supporting cast than we ever have in past chapters.

All that to say, it is my personal opinion that this web novel ranks in my top 5 reads. The story constantly goes back in forth between lighthearted, harem/shipping moments and then some heavier themes. The protagonist will go through harsh tribulations of his own in order to come to terms with himself, accept those around him, and save the world that gave him a chance to restart.

If this is not enough to convince you, then let me add just one more thing. As soon as you get to the first side story after the epilogue, you will have the following feeling: "Indeed, The entire main story was the prologue for this masterpiece."

Have fun! :) <<less

One of the few long webnovels I've actually finished. I hate reviewing things, especially when I like them, but this novel is so good it made me write one.

The plot in this reminds me of Kimetsu no Yaiba, it's fast and busy, with a few training and redemption arcs in-between conflicts. I've never seen a more efficient use of Chekhov's gun in a webnovel; things that are mentioned, shown and foreshadowed always find their way into the plot eventually, especially in the latter part of the story. Barring the side-stories,... more>> which are interesting, hilarious, annoying and satisfying (in that order), the story alone deserves a 10/10.

There are a looot of characters in this, and if it wasn't for the wiki I certainly wouldn't have been able to remember them all (since I read this in the span of 2 years). And this would be an issue if they were forgettable or boring, but they are all so well-developed and written that even if they don't show up for 200 chapters, as long as you binge or even steady-pacedly read this you won't be like: 'who's this guy/girl again?'

I ain't the biggest fan of harems, but when they're well done they can be art, and this is one of those exceptions. The waifu wars are fierce on this.

I guess the only flaw for me would be the edginess, which sometimes is a bit overbearing and extra. And a couple of those side-stories, which I've erased from my mind completely.

So sure, it's overrated and overhyped. But no novel has made me jump, cry, shriek and overall feel things like this one. Just read it, and if you don't like it I'll call you oppa or noona or whatever you want I promise. <<less

Aaargh... reading this made me frustrated... so many times cuz MC was too bad (coward, wimp, indecisive, denser than s neutron star, self centred and half ass). But...... but the growth of MC (not the power level but the character) and characters around him was something really exceptional. story telling was good and I am really happy to read it to end.

MC was developed step by step unlike other novels where at c50 u will see MC has saint mindset, no fear and always does things logically but what happens... more>> later is always repetition of first 50 chapters. So development of MC was super good, story started with a simple goal for MC and it remained unchanged until the end. Story progression was good and all the plot holes were filled.

This novel stands in the league of solo leveling, everyone else is a returnee.

And damn those side stories r icing on the cake.

Do not expect spoilers from me, read it to the end it is worth ur time. <<less

Spoiler

I have completed the main story and I unbelievably loved it. When I first started reading this, I really didn't like it cause Seol was so annoying, but I guess that means the author succeeded. I particularly loved the neutral zone, idk why, I just do. The most remarkable thing about this is that you can really see Seol Jihu's growth as an earthling that if you reminisce a previous event you would really feel that it has really been long because Jihu continuously changes. I love that he's a prankster, those are the only times that you really get to laugh in this novel, so I think that was a good character that he had.

This was a really good story, if I compare it to others like this, this is like God level, most likely because of Seol Jihu. Flone is obviously the golden finger, and black seol jihu hehhehe I also loved black seol jihu, sadly there can only be one. I think nine eyes could have been used more but I guess it would be too much of a cheat, and the future was beginning to change anw so I guess that's only the right use, but there are times where I really wish he would use it though hahahaa. At first I didn't really like Seo Yuhui cause of his demure attitude but as I read what she experienced with black seol jihu, I think she deserve it. Jihu's past with his family is just, , I feel so sad for him cause of what lead him to such a situation with his family. I guess that's also a part of why he isn't reliant in nine eyes. He was really s*upid at the beginning that's why it was so good reading his development and how he gathers his comrades. I always imagine twisted kindness as a guy cause of mook in refund hs. Unsightly humility is likeable? Even the parasite queen was not that detestable, or maybe only because of seol jihu's attitude towards her. I also liked how jihu's not the the typical inspirational speaker

The battles were actually kind of realistic, like how he die, how long the travel time is, and how he really had to use his own teammates as meat shields. I was kind of put off when he visited the auction house and he was criticized for it cause that is how most MCs are in other stories, but even though I was mad that kim hannah didn't like jihu's reaction, it was nice to read such a story where the MC is not excused to being too violent. It was also nice to see his comrades reaction to his bipolar moods hahahah esp phi sora. Master ian and hang maldong are just gift from heaven, dk why. Little chick was also cute hehehe I bet he also loved jihu the most from his previous owners. I particularly like miss pink/ teresa. Cause idk, she's also kind of funny. I was kinda spoiled with the identity of you seonhwa cause I made a mistake of wondering if baek haeju is wearing a mask cause of what little chick is saying. Thankfully I was already past 400 chapters when I was spoiled. I cried when dylan died. Actually I cried when anyone died.

Gula and luxuria was also nice. Vlad halep is also nice. Phillip ofc was nice. I just loved his comrades. I mean valhalla.

I'll be editing this after I read the side storiees.

:' (This story is finished... Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo.... T.T

It as so good, really. I enjoyed reading the story, discovering the characters and how the MC is doing even though he was a scum but with time, things are settling down slowly.

I would say that, even it was shot, it was exciting and I loved how the author depicted the "family problems" through his story.

I don't want to spoil much, so I'll be brief.

This is really excellent. The series has two sides, Seol trying to become a better person/ make up for his actions against his loved ones, and the other world conflict against the invading forces in paradise. Both sides are done very well, and they crossover and enhance each other.

Seol is a great character, and I was very much rooting for him in his efforts to make amends, as well as succeed in the conflict against the overwhelming enemies of the other... more>> world.

The fighting in the series is largely martial arts (the super ki powered kind) and magic, and it's really cool. <<less

First of all, this is a good and enjoyable novel. MUST-READ!

Realistic behavior might be one of the best aspects of this novel. The author knows when to do what. In this novel, you will have moments of hardship, romance, and even some weirdo doing pranks on other people. You really feel with the protagonist, his feelings are relatable-ish (this depends on the person), but the thing is that we understand where he comes... more>> from. The fighting scenes are hella epic, the romance scenes are fluff (but the way the author sometimes describes 'romance' moments can be annoying) and the ranking-system is alright.

This novel is rated mature for a reason and people will die left and right. The development of the plot is quite enjoyable to read, somethings that were talked about in the early chapters become very important towards the end. But there are moments in the novel where I don't really understand the reasoning of the characters, this might be done by the author for a reason but I feel like I'm missing small things. The romance could be done better, I have not fully read the novel yet, so this might (doubt it) change a little. In the end, this is an exceptional novel, that I will never forget and definitely deserves a place in my top 5.

I would go for a 5*

Edit: I would have to change my vote after the knowledge of the side-stories, they just make the story as close to perfect as I can imagine.

I read this, as far the the reviews got, this has many cons than pros, but, as a man of mental instability, I really liked it. The Emotion inducing chapters are exaggeratedly real (?, for me ofcourse). How rejection and escapism of a human being lead to an other persona of the same person. I personally had a sense of empathy towards the MC. I dunno, but I am entertained. This is my subjective view about it. Read other reviews for the quality and standard reader critique of the... more>> novel. I have one special mention of a specific arc of the novel which is ABSOLUTELY GOLD.

Spoiler

I think it was volume 4 of a certain format creator, around chapter 77 onwards. That was Holy sh**, it was the suspense part of the novel. I will briefly describe with minimal spoiler. MC and his crew went on a rescue/infiltration mission to there comrade, whom were earlier went on a recon mission and was caught. The novel perfectly set the mood and the atmosphere of the scene. The Characters were in the verge of losing hope and desperation in the same time. MC and his crew proceeded the rescue and what they saw was the atrocious and disturbingly nest of monsters (I would not describe it, it for your discretion already) . The Novel also vividly depict the scene with clarity that I got goosebumps. With the Time limit and the dying colleague in front of them, it accurately delivered what the characters will feel and think. It was gold for me.

The story is an interesting take on the RPG-genre, and the world is well-built. But I just couldn't take the author's shitty writing. Every conversation is written just terribly, as if the author had no social interactions in years. Overly-detailed scenes and explanations that are just cringy to read, super randomly specific details that are completely useless, uninteresting and feel shoved into the story to make characters appear smart or knowledgeable.

I really tried to read the story, when it stopped making sense - that's when I knew it's time to... more>> drop it. Power levels just became nonsensical, enemies making ridiculous mistakes, or acting completely unlike their character. I don't see this getting better anytime soon. <<less

One of the best novels on here. Currently updated daily which is also great. Ignore earlier reviews, once he gets out of the tutorial the story really starts to pick up. All the characters are fleshed out well and have distinct personalities. The MC isn't really super strong until later. Possibly the luckiest, but that fits with his ex gambler theme.

Please don’t listen to those bad reviews. This is probably the best light novel I have been reading so far, even better than solo levelling. The world building is amazing, what I like the most is how logical the author is. I was quite frustrated in the beginning since the author didn’t explain anything, about the stats, paradise and all that but eventually you will learn more about them. Many novels I read they tend to be too illogical, like the author just throw sh*t in there to make the... more>> MC powerful without a reason then left u wondering how does that even make sense, and no character development whatsoever. But not this one, you will see a drastic change in the MC’s mentality from the beginning till afterwards. You will feel his pain and his regrets towards his family because of all the wrongdoing from the past. Sure he is OP, sure he is lucky but the story doesn’t only focus on him but his relationships and the people around him as well. We get the connection, team bond in the novel unlike many other novels which mentioned some side characters in one chapter then never again. <<less

I won't go on and on about SCOG.

Most of the good and bad points one can found were well discribed by the reviews of Skyhighxx and Anomandaris.

I just want to add a simple thing. That even though I know for sure that the MC will never die (that's the basis of such novels, don't be surprised guys), the autor always managed to make my heart pounds !!

Of course the MC is kind of a dumbass and naive on top... more>> of that, but on the other hand he can be very shrewd and merciless.

Honestly I had a really really great read and granted if you read all the criticisms about the MC, you can find them to be true, but when I look at Seol, all I see is a person like us who had his share of problem on earth, and just wants a new life in a world he feels that he belongs to (thus explaining his innocent annoying personnality).

SCOG is without a doubt one of the best korean novel out there (objectively-speaking) !!! Liking the MC or not is clearly just a subjective feeling, since in general one MC's personality may annoy some people more than others. <<less

It's unique and an amazing read until the end of the neutral zone, just good after that. Its worth your time reading, a little off with the pacing. One thinf I just cannot shake off the contradiction with this novel. To raise the stakes in the tutorial/neutral zone arc, there is this idea set onto you where the recruits are victims. They are desperate people with nothing to lose that was took advantage of, set into a death game where they will try to survive horrifying, gorey ordeals and permanent... more>> "deaths", and even if they pass they will live the life of a s*ave. The novel is excellent. I read alot of novels and this is one of the best yet... The only thing that I, personally don't like is the fact that the MC ain't that strong (He keeps running away from enemies). This is just a premature basis because I haven't even reached half of the novel but if it keeps going this way then sooner or later I will drop this.
