This novel is also known as [I was caught and brought back after using and tossing aside the Great Demon King of e-sports…]

Wei Xiao––the former rookie king of the league, now an accompanying player and tr*sh talk king, had a stupefied look on his face!

Someone bought 10,000 games with him!

200 yuan a game, for a neat and tidy total of two million yuan!

Wei Xiao: “Boss, you didn’t miscount the zeroes, right?”

“No.”

“You want me to accompany you to play 10,000 games?”

“Mm.”

Wei Xiao was amazed. But just when he thought he’d encountered a generous fool and was having a good time deceiving and playing with them, he discovered the other party’s identity.

This person actually turned out to be his previous captain, the one whose hands were tired from accepting too many championship trophies, the one who made everyone feel fear when they heard his name, the Great Demon King of the league, Lu Feng!

Wei Xiao: “I’m sorry for disturbing you, goodbye!”

Lu Feng picked up the little bastard who wanted to run, “Have you played around enough? Come back for training if you’ve played enough!”

Later on, Wei Xiao became famous in a single game. The host interviewed him, “How would you evaluate God Lu?”

Wei Xiao: “God Lu? Great technique, strong physical strength, and the most heaven-defying thing is his endurance!”

Host: “???”

How come the answer seemed to be a little strange?!

This is an absolute gem. I've recently been going through a bunch of e-sports bl novels, (which there is actually a surprisingly large amount of, just not translated), and this one was really good.

1. The characters are 3D.
Our MC seems to be impulsive, but he actually calculates his every move in game carefully. He might seem like the most shameless and dense, but is actually really attentive to other people's feelings, and can cheer people up using simple words. Our ML might seem cold on the outside, but... more>> is the most sweetest on the inside, and will put all the heavy responsibilities on himself silently. All the characters have depth to them, so the novel doesn't make the the MC's (gaming) team the only OPiest (f*ck my English) existence in the whole gaming world.

2. Character Development (I guess it counts as 1 but still)
You can freaking see how the characters grow in the novel, and at a astonishing yet acceptable speed too. (No random growth without any reason to it) Not only the ML and MC grow, but even the side characters too, from other teams. The ML also learns to trust his teammates rather than taking everything onto himself.

3. Romance
Aaah, romance. I personally think this is more of a e-sport novel with a lot of bl on the side, rather than focusing on the romance. Something like "youth and hot blooded teens play e-sports, with 40% of the novel being romance". No forcing, rather they ask for each other's trust (and I'm not only saying they trust each other, rather, they actually ASK for them to tell them the truth rather than forcing out of them or ignoring it. Makes me happy to read it.) Romance is heavenly. Bless you.

4. The gameplay
Even if you're not interested in MOBA types of games, I'm sure this novel's gameplay will still be interesting. The commentary focused on the gaming is a bit more relaxed or not so in depth in the first 80? Or something chapters, but when it goes to the tournament it starts getting really hot-blooded and in depth. Of course, I'm not saying they'll give you an entire description of the entire gaming, but this author is really good at deciding which parts to be detailed and which ones to be short to let you know what is happening. The gameplay also never repeats the same strategy or the same strategy without any changes or improvements, almost no repetitive games, and it really makes you interested in the gaming rather than bored like in some other gaming novels I've read.

5. Backstories
Borrowing a sentence from the Chinese side of the novel, I didn't cry because of the MC's romance, but rather I cried because of the Team of God's backstory. The backstories are really torturous, aahhh, so many emotions. This is the kind of novel where you like every character because they are all awesome and have their own dreams and backstories and the characters are just cute as hell (besides those two teams that were rude and disgusting and I don't like them). Mmm. The Team of God's emotional plot is just... Torture, yet a essential part of the plot. You might cry if you're the type to cry easily.

Sorry for writing a long review, and I'd definitely recommend this. Sorry for the bad English, and have a nice day. <<less

In the end I couldn't still my hands, I tried to resist reading to let the chapters pile up but instead I smashed directly into the MTL to keep reading.

This story's such a joy to read, WX's shameless mouth +tr*sh talk is an utter delight and the character interactions are well written. For better or worse, 2 out of 3 sentences from WX's mouth is basically "captain~ <3" and is a huge fan of ML. Might even be number 1 fan actually! On the other hand, ML's your typical handsome... more>> cool guy, darling of the eSports community, secretly owns the club but doting to MC, yada yada, nothing new. He works well with MC, and while unoriginal as hell I still like him. As for the eSports side, it's ok and decently written, nothing too much to say. I wanna say it might be about 55% romance, 45% eSports maybe?

Overall, I would say it's a 4, maybe even 4.5, with mtl. I like the characterizations, I like the interactions, And the plot is interesting as well. However the fact that MC is constantly going on and on about ML can get a tad tiring. Also, I personally love best friends and while MC and his bestie (Bai Cai) have some great interactions, Bai Cai gets treated as the unwanted third wheel a lot in this second half of the story.

How long do we have to wait for MC and ML to get together by the way?

Spoiler

Its not too long of a wait, they get together by chapter 85 or so if I remember correctly.

think of this series as a shounen manga, where the protagonist has the one trait that makes everyone want to better themselves, try harder, or start working towards the bright future that they had never dared imagine before--

and then add the fact that the two main characters you always wished would end up together WILL end up together, and you have a pretty good understanding of how great this novel is. It has the perfect blend between intense gameplay, cute moments, and funny sidekick characters that will make you laugh... more>> out loud.

it feels a little bit like haikyuu in terms of the style, where they're always looking up, aiming for the highest, and getting excited by fighting strong opponents. It has that same lighthearted feel, both funny yet mixed with anticipation. Add in a main character that has the blabbiest mouth ever and it's a fun, entertaining, yet not empty fluff novel. <<less

Wei Xiao is too damn adorable. Pushing him up to the top of my favourite characters list~~

Shameless, cute, serious, he's a whole number of things, and I adore him to bits. The gaming aspect of the novel is not boring, but it makes you very, very intrigued! My heart's beating so fast! Too fast!!

All the characters are well-rounded and interesting, so there's not a moment where it is bland or not interesting. The humour is off the charts, I rolled around in bed laughing so hard I fell off! More... more>> than once!

It's the type you can't MTL (I tried) because the jokes are so carefully crafted that you miss the full flavour if you do. The translations are f a n t a s t I c though, props to the translator!

Lu Feng is an absolute charmer too, with his cold exterior but squishy soul. It really portrays his struggles -- all the characters have a history. Granted, not all are fully described but you can see they're living, breathing.

I don't want to go too into this, although I totally could, but read it!! I recommend it!! I get bored so easily, even though I'm a full on reading addict, and I just-- it's too amazing. 160+ chapters in, but I haven't experienced a moment of boredom, which is too damn awesome! <<less

A plead for help:

I love this story, even though it’s not completely translated I still come back every couple of months and re-read it. It does have some negatives, like being repetitive. The author tends to repeat descriptions a lot. If the story was completely translated I would be a little annoyed but because the translation isn’t fast then it actually becomes convenient. I really wish for a new translator to pick this story up. I feel that the current translator no longer has any love for the story. They... more>> update regularly on other projects but not this one. The stopped doing so last November, suddenly there was no translation for January and only 2 chaps every other month 😭😭 while their other works get translated regularly. No hate to the translator (the translation is good), but you can tell they no longer love the book. Just really hope that someone who can will ask and pick this up. The story is almost complete and I’ve been following the updates for an literal years (since 2020 I think) please please please pick this up <<less

In contrary to what the person above said, I don't think having the game in an esports being REAL makes it good or Bad. I mean if that's how they want it to be, good for them. But... ehrm... I don't know? I think learning a game you don't actually play and know the macro and micro is HARDER than making your own that you can twist and modify according to how you want it to be. Hell I play League of Legends and would still not be able to... more>> make proper teamfight scenes. Not even tutorial videos can save my ass.

Creating a New Game. It worked well in FOG, and for me it worked well in Glory as well. The characters are amazing and the small details are amazing.

For me it will still attract readers since the game has a different set of playable characters although being a 5v5 game as well. I remember reading a novel which used (King's Glory was it?) Where I had to look up the characters a lot since I was not familiar with everyone which can be pretty annoying. You can have a properly established game, and as you have alluded, a REAL game, and no one will still read it since the characters are flat and uninteresting. Author-san gave us the best of both of the worlds here. A new game that will interest you with it's unique Characters, and the interaction of players as they play it.

I'm really picky about things that I read but for me, this is one of the best eSports novels that mixes the right amount of interaction and gaming in it ༼ つ ◕‿◕ ༽つ <<less

Any fans of Haikyuu here?

Because I want to present to you the BL e-sports version of it!!! Never have I ever been this thrilled and excited reading any esports BL than I have been reading this! I would cheer for the team when they played, get nervous on a serious moment, twirl around with joy like an idiot when they won or pulled off something epic while I was reading this! I don’t think anything sports related except Haikyuu has made me like this!

A fallen powerhouse! A prodigy ML who... more>> needs someone to keep up with him.A spunky energetic genius MC who’s supper funny yet also very cool! Absolutely wholesome and hilarious team bonding! Defeats! Wins! Rising from the ashes! Likeable opponents who aren’t some villains and nobodies but are working for their own goals to win! Training arcs! Absolutely epic combos and comebacks! Tell me, doesn’t that make your blood boil? Its like an absolute epic shounen manga and i’m totally in love with it!!!

Glory is a MOBA game that is made up by the author, but unlike in other novels which don’t explain their games right, this author does a terrific job on explaining everything that when you actually get to reading the game matches you actually know which hero is the best and what moves they can and might do. And so you end up enjoying the matches truly and get nervous, happy and excited with the characters when the game progresses! Not only that, but as mentioned above, there are no villains (as in no xenophobia/China absolute supremacy) just players playing on different teams with their own goals that you end up liking them and can’t help but cheer them on a little bit too! Plus the author rights details when needed and cut back on them wheb needed too. So we follow the team on their whole journey of rising from the ashes without feeling that its dragging or anything! E-sports done right! Not to mention, the author balances the romance and esports part brilliantly!

Wei Xiao, this boy’s mouth is a national treasure xDDD I never thought I would actually see someone so shameless after WWX and believe me, I absolutely adore him! I love how his mouth conjures up words that have double meanings and how he says the most hilarious and shameless stuff like its nothing. He’s arrogant but he has the skills to be arrogant! He’s like a shounen protagonist who pumps up not only his teammates but also his opponents to work hard while he works hard to win, himself! I would always have a goofy smile on my face due to him while reading this! The ML is really gentle and protective of his teammates and the MC, silently shouldering all the burdens. (I swear all these gentle esports ML are making me want to do something!! :’ (I want them tooo!!!) He is so gentle and patient with the MC that it melts you into a puddle! And ofc his endure is the best! (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Gotta praise him for not doing the MC outright with all of the MC’s antics xDD! And ML and MC as a couple are just a perfect match! They are so so sweet! The type that can even make a veteran like me blush and grin goofily while hitting my pillow! And they are the perfect duo in the game to keep you on the edge of your seat! Only meant for each other!

Team bonding and side characters exploration is literally something I yearn for in every sports novels and am proud to tell you that Glory does it Perfectly! They start unfamiliar with each other and train together to get the tacit understanding to work. Ofcourse they make mistakes, but they improve and overcome them together while increasing their cooperation with each other and strengthening the team! Thats exactly what I want! And its super uplifting to read it! And ofc the side characters! They feel 3D in glory rather than some background characters just there to make the main team shine. They have their own stories, goals amd motivations! And they are extremely strong and not just their to be nameless cannon fodders!

Tbh, i’m not even a fan of esports but Glory is really a masterpiece to be one of my favourites! It literally has everything in it! Ofc there might be some problems here or there and people might not agree with my review! But regardless, I love this novel! So I highly recommend this you! Its really a ‘Too Good/10’ novel. (I might add more points to male this review better as I keep on reading) <<less

Glory reminds me of any typical sports anime/manga, like Haikyuu or Kuroko no Basket. Besides the fact that both are centered around a sport (duh, you may be thinking), they share the similar fresh, bubbly feeling of "we're gonna be the best of the best and win nationals!".

This isn't necessarily a bad thing. It makes the plot fun, for starters, and the focus on the actual game itself instead of just the romance is pretty interesting. The characters and their antics with each other are hilarious, especially our shameless MC... more>> and our equally-as-shameless-but-more-subtle ML, and the progression of their team as they try to beat their competitors gives the story an avenue for a climax that doesn't revolve around the main couple getting together.

For me, however, there is too little focus on the romance. It doesn't really seem to be a priority in this novel (or at least it isn't for the first 60 chapters), which would be fine if this novel wasn't tagged with "romance". The ML has acknowledged his feelings for the MC since the beginning and the MC definitely returns those feelings (though I'm pretty sure he's confusing his affections with idol worship because he seems to have inherited the same "clueless about anything that has to do with romance" characteristic from anime/manga too), and that's it. Their relationship is just pretty stagnant so far, and while I may only be on chapter 61, I still feel it's pretty reasonable to expect something to have occurred by then.

I also feel as if the MC and the ML are a little too OP. OP to the point where it's not satisfying to see them win or lose, because when they win I expected it, and when they lose I get confused. Like, with how much the author hypes them up, it just doesn't make sense when they lose.
Spoiler

The whole thing with the doubles match against the Korean players was a bit of a stretch. Like, the reason the ML can't play doubles is because he's *that* good? Um... okay. Also, even if he really is so good that the other players can't catch up, if the MC is *that* good of a support, I feel like they still should have managed to win that match.

[collapse]

Regardless, I still find the novel to be quite fun as a whole. I rate it a 4.0/5.0 stars. <<less

This is a 5 out of 5 recommendation! The best e-Sports BL novel for me not gonna lie!!!

  1. GAME MECHANICS
The gameplays of the e-Sports tag are there and really well-thought but the best thing about it because it is still understandable even for non-gamers like me -- you can even enjoy it.

TBH this is more of a e-Sports with BL rather than BL with e-Sports, but that doesn't make the dog food and the tender romance any less!!!

What I like even more is that the main team doesn't just become a sudden one-boost gods in the game but we can actually read and go much more in-depth about their losses. The main team actually loses many times which is sad (because of course you want them to win!!!) but at the same time relieved that the writer is giving great thoughts about the characters' growth.
  2. ROMANCE
The romance is a BIG FAT SOLID YES. It is just sooo good and fluffy and warm. The best thing about it is because it doesn't get dragged out until the last chapter, and instead it's about 1/3 of the story -- which is still kinda long BUT the interactions of the Main CP is enough fluff and is very satisfying (the romance has NO drama and serious misunderstandings which I LOVE.) When they first officially got together it was very AAAAAAAAAAAA and what I adore about the Main CP is that they realized their feelings even before the confession. Both of them were lowkey pining on each other and it was just adorable.

    Spoiler

Their PDA IS GOLD AHAHAHA and the I really like how it was quite accurate on how being homos*xual in China is very frowned upon and is considered as a scandal. I love how they came out in the very end when they retired together and already became legends so it was really cool on how it got adorably announced. (although it felt a bit too short)

    [collapse]

Main CP's interactions and shenanigans are just to-die-out-of-fluff for AND...

    Spoiler

There are a lot of kisses and intimate scenes which is very adorable, although the smut scenes are just indicated and was never got in to detail (well this is shounen ai and not yaoi lmaoo so it's expected) but I just really like the Main CP being all intimate and teasing HAHA

    [collapse]
  3. CHARACTERS
What I love about this is no one is everyone is growing and they have their own stories and motivations as well. Of course the main focus is the main CP (AAAAAAAAAAA I LOVE THEM SM) but that doesn't make any less on how every one of the characters are very endearing. The opponents of the MC and ML's team aren't just 2D antagonized players but we can see their point of views in the game which is very good!!!

The interactions and dialogue is very fun and enjoyable. AKDJDAKSHD They are just so hilarious I swear.

Every one of them, MC, ML, other side characters are very memorable and I can even remember them even after a week of completing this which is very rare for me unless I really enjoyed the story (because I don't really bother remembering names when it comes to tr*shy novels haha). Everyone has their own traits and personalities! The characters have different issues and backstories which just gives them identities and I love that.

Spoiler about the MC's past issues...
    Spoiler

MC's initial past about his grandma was fixed earlier on but the problem with his parents weren't really solved in the end (idk about their future bcs it never got mentioned, but I mean during the finals.) And I love how it wasn't really easily solved and how the parents were at least trying to make up for their mistakes and just supporting MC in the audience. I like how it wasn't just solved in a blink of an eye and it is very understandable on how MC still hasn't forgiven them because your childhood can't be just fixed with a single sorry or a championship win from the game. Although I do hope that they somehow had their reconciliation at the future but it wasn't just mentioned

    [collapse]
Spoiler about the ML's past and issues...
    Spoiler

About the team disbandment and how he bought FTW with the thought of keeping the team together but failing miserably in the end, because he originally loved the team so much is just so heartbreaking for me. But what's even more heartbreaking is that we discover how Close's past teammates also sacrificed for him because they didn't want Close to sacrifice for THEM so they wanted to leave first because they knew Close will do something about it and they didn't want Close to pay such a big price (the contract with his "mom" that b!tch aaaaa.) I love how the ML was growing along with the team even though he's already literally the best at the game. He started trusting his teammates more and as well as how his past team also let go of their guilt and misunderstandings -- how the members were guilty about leaving them and Close assuring that he never blamed them and is now okay.

    THAT'S JUST SO BEAUTIFUL AAAAAAAAA

    [collapse]
  4. FLOW OF THE STORY
I really like the flow all throughout the story -- I binged this for only 2 days and IT WAS WORTH IT. The pacing is neat and the main team's growth is believable. It doesn't seem rushed and at the same time it isn't dragged out.

The only problem I have is how the ending seemed rushed - ??? But most of these are just me wanting for more AHAHAHA
    Spoiler

The details and gameplay of the final match was really rushed for me and how we never knew how they accepted the awards or something, although I didn't mind it that much, but I just felt it.

As well as the conclusion about the ending like how they retired and came out and how many championships FTW won. Also on how CQ became the ultimate legends and myths of the games and how FTW must've been the best team with how they would've triple crowned back-to-back the championships, how they're hands became heavy with how soooo many trophies and medals they would've received (solos, doubles, and teams!!!!). Their retirement and the details about CQ's coming out.... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I WANTED MOREEEE

But the ending is really good and satisfying so I still love it so much

    [collapse]
Definitely a 5 out of 5 for me and is one of my go-to rereads every time I have free hours. This is the best BL e-Sports novel for me and absolutely one of my top 5 overall BL reads.

I read up to the end of the free ch and so far it's keeping my interest. The MC is a genius in the gaming community but incredibly dense and easy to fool when it comes to interpersonal relationships, so I'm not too sure about him yet. The ML is one of those patient types I can only admire and not relate to (patience is not one of my virtues). At this point, the story is balanced and can go either way so we'll have to wait and see how... more>> things go in the long run. <<less

obsessed!

i fell down the e-sports wormhole the moment I started watching the cdrama falling into your smile and I have never been happier. each e-sports book gives you an unique insight into a world you are so unfamiliar with (i won't speak for everyone seeing as I do see many gaming experts here in passing!). the more I see, the more I love!

GLORY isn't my first e-sports novel. the credit for that goes to ICDI. but it's something so very special to me because it has its own unique flavor... more>> of charm, you know? be it the shameless MC Wei Xiao or the tortured ML Lu Feng or their former or present teammates. the plot packs humor, romance, angst, and the thrilling excitement of the competitiveness in a delicious morsel that you never seem to get enough of!

the MC and ML are indeed OP but in a reasonable way. they have worked hard to get where they are and you do see their growth through flashbacks and anecdotes!

  • WEI XIAO [FTW. Quiet] ⸻ the MC. to put it simply yet accurately, this boy is shameless. in a good way, though! he has good intentions. the silly child really has a golden heart. he never gives up! his fighting power is never-ending. sure, he is overpowered! but that's not the only reason he is called 'little lunatic wei' or 'little lunatic q'. he certainly wins more than he loses but when he does lose... the lunatic gets excited instead of sad or angry. I could never! i'd cry so bad istg.
Spoiler

that's actually how you could say the ML falls in love with him. those two play against each other for like two days with the MC losing every game right until the last game. and, the ML is just so attracted by the spark in this new player his club is going to sign that his tortured heart and soul finally wakes up with this fighting spirit. but then our little lunatic wei leaves before signing the contract (family issues they don't know about) thus breaking ML's poor heart QAQ... but that's in the past

[collapse]

the MC is quite the softie! he is friends with almost everyone, okay?! and those people all have a love-hate relationship with him because you just can't help it. he is like a therapist to a bunch of e-sports players in domestic division. and, there are those moments where you just can't help but awwww over and feel all warm and melty in your heart because of just how precious all these characters are! the friendships make you envious!

  • LU FENG [FTW. CLOSE] the ML. daddy lu to us and and captain ~~~ to little lunatic q. our poor ML is quite the tortured soul. his player name is close for a reason. that man is surrounded by hard, tall walls that are impenetrable to anyone but the stinky kid MC. he is IN LOVE with the MC, okay? never doubt that. never seen a man so devoted. he is THE doting lover. you guys know those characters who are like all stoic and cold and stuff (not like arrogant ceo but like gentle and unapproachable because they are too godly) ? close is that person to everyone but he is the sweetest and the gentlest when it comes to romance. little lunatic wei is smitten and so am I !!!!! he has his issues and damn does he have his issues. he should be an angsty baby (he has every reason to be) but he never lets anyone see it... he just tortures himself on the inside. close is just closed off from everyone and I'm glad that he and wei xiao have each other as each other's support
Spoiler

just wait until you get to that part where close is playing as support for quiet! it's worth it because it will tell you so much his character! the scene just highlights how not-close close with quiet or rather just how close close is with quiet! those two just make you go ahhhhhhh

[collapse]

you can't help but want to spoil close rotten and you find yourself nodding in accordance as wei no.1 close fan xiao goes gaga over his captain ~~~~ little lulu just makes your heart burst with love, I promise you this!

  • FTW ⸻ FTW is our baby's team. now, you might ask who is our baby? the answer is, of course: all of them! that's right! every single FTW player is my baby. that includes past FTW players. FTW is the short form for 'For the Win' and these players stay winning! as they should !!!!
CURRENT FTW ⸻

Spoiler

won't be talking about MC and ML because i'd never stop if I do, okay?

  1. Old Le ⸻ he is one of the grandmaster's (wei xiao's original secret not-so-secret alt that was legendary in the esports world even before his return to the team) victims. when wei xiao joins FTW, you have a little foreboding feeling that this guy might be trouble for him because this is like sleeping with the enemy, yeah? but turns out there are no actual enemies in this novel (like those who are worth their air). this guy has potato chips as his oxygen. he actually coaches a fellow teammate's mentality before a game by telling him that he'd be alright if he eats a chip noisily. very cute, I know!
  2. Granny Grey ⸻ no, that's not his name! granny grey is called so because of his granny grey hair! I found this oddly adorable because this is the first time i've seen hair colors being referred to as such. but granny grey is absolutely precious, okay? he unknowingly became the very reason why our ML was able to find our MC so the story could begin. kudos to granny grey! he's a cute kid. he cries. he is innocent. and, he is terribly nervous. but he is easily coaxed and is obedient. the baby of the team!
  3. Cai Cai ⸻ this man has blessed hands, okay? his hands win every lottery there is! he is a salted fish vegetable with a greed for money. he is our MC's bestie but wishes he wasn't because MC is too much trouble lmaoooo... towards the start when MC just arrives to the FTW base, granny grey says something like "people used to say brother cai lacked a soul" but then he sees brother cai come alive chasing after wei xiao and goes "oh". they are adorable, okay? cai cai is ever so relatable as you can see from his thoughts and his alt. i'd say he is the comedic relief but there's no comedic relief needed seeing as the book itself is 80% comedy... not to be read as cai cai is not needed because we really do need our salted fish brother vegetable support, okay?!

FORMER FTW ⸻

Spoiler

god... you don't know what it means to be broken-hearted until you know what's up with the FTW of the past! I was in tears - both happy and sad! they might seem like villains in the starting if you're biased towards close (so am I but the more you know the more you just can't help but be </3)

  1. Scum Man Yuan Ze or Bandit Yuan ⸻ all I can say is... he is aptly named scum man. never seen such a gentle scum man. marshal seems like cold frost when he's first introduced. he seems like a total villain, you know? like if you have seen falling into your smile, this guy seems like ah tai from tat in the start. I was like I'm gonna hate him. but the thing is you CANNOT hate him. like at all. this guy is competitive. he is manipulative. he seems insensitive and irrationally harsh (especially to poor old g) but he's so goooood. you can't help but love him the more you learn about him! he read psychology books to help get close to little close when they were still in a team but close was well... close. he used to worry so much about him that he'd think close was crying himself to sleep at night. he learned to drive so that he could drive his teammates (former FTW I'm talking about) to and from the airport. he keeps up with all that close does despite not being in touch with him. he has a guilty conscious and that's why he didn't participate in the singles tournament because he was afraid he'd defeat close who he has already let down so much. he messages wei xiao privately to talk to him about close and inform him about things so that he can take care of close... like you don't get it... I LOVE THIS MAN! he's shameless too. he loves teasing people. he is an expert linguist (speaks 5-7 languages but cannot teach one to speak one properly ⸻ it's proven in the case of old g and god kim) ! oh, and he kinda has a crush on our MC (really but not really! like you don't need to worry about it, it's all in fun and games but it's also true because little lunatic wei is a genius that fascinates everyone!)... not me writing an essay for bandit yuan omgggg
  2. Proud Flower Kim ⸻ from korea. came to FTW for a period and left as he planned despite the circumstances so he has the least amount of guilt for leaving close. bad chinese (not actually bad but more vulgar) which is characteristic of a student taught by scum man yuan. has a "big bro" li heran whom I suspect he's in love with but whatever. he has many encounters with wei xiao too and they have these little talks about the FTW of the past. he didn't participate in the singles as well. he's sly but in a way that's cute. he gives off younger brother energy. he is a jealous competitive little bean but he won't admit it. yuan ze and he are like friends who hate each other.
  3. God Yan ⸻ worthy of the name god. he's like the ultimate god like figure. his fascination with little lunatic q makes me hesitate because for a while I found myself shipping. god yan gives me the same vibes close does actually and I'm sad we didn't get to him more. why did he appear so late omg ??? T_T
  4. Xie He ⸻ if someone appears even less than god yan, it's this fellow! he was the one who didn't want to leave at all and still desired to return back in the present of the plot. it is only almost near the end that he realizes that time has passed and he should move like others have. I admit I didn't feel as much for him as I did for others but I wish we had more interactions with him because he gives that nostalgia that I know I adore!

the old FTW really shines! not only because of all the angst but also because of how much they feel! they are very warm and caring! their competitiveness, their nostalgia, their memories, their need to care for close, their interactions with wei xiao. wei xiao says that all of them hold him in high regard because of how much they care for close and i... I just couldn't... sobbing

  • SIDE CHARACTERS ⸻ Money, Asleep, Cong Yi, Eurostar, Fu Li, Moonlit, Old G... I don't even wanna start talking. every single character is so fleshed out. as someone who writes herself, I'm absolutely in love with the way every single character made me feel. even the side characters make you feel so much that you can't help but root for them!
GLORY is an absolute delight !!!!! everything about it is just chef's kiss! <<less

This is my absolute favorite esports novels. Not only are Wei Xiao and Lu Feng a super satisfying/strong duo when it comes to playing glory, but their interactions outside of the game are also very cute!! I love our MC he’s super shameless but an observant and sly little demon. I really like reading about the other characters in the glory circle too like Asleep, Moonlit, etc. I’m glad it gives us little snips of their povs from time to time and it really ties the story together.

While reading you can only go - AAAAAaaAAaaaahahahahah - because it's a ton of fun. If I could I'd add that emoticon with a smiley face and shaking hands from excitement, because these are the feelings this novel gives me.

Main joy in this novel so far are characters and dialogues. Characters are vivid, especially MC who is like a shooting star. Dialogues are funny and entertaining. And although some chopped onions appear on pages here and there, it's not that type of drama that will leave you scarred for life.... more>> Descriptions are solid, it's not overly detailed, but it's not shallow as well. In general it gives you good feelings, that's why for those who like some positive read, you are welcomed. Not to mention that this is the author of "My underachieving seatmate", which if you liked, you know this author's strengths. <<less

The game in this novel is created by the author, which to me was actually a bad thing. I think the appeal of esports novels are the esports aspect, and with a preexisting game, the author just has to have enough experience to write the game well and just make the characters decently interesting. With a fake game, the author needs to do double duty trying to create an entire gaming community as well as make the rest of the story interesting enough to pull in people without the gaming... more>> aspect. It's like reading a xianxia novel where they don't actually do any cultivation, you'll probably only attract readers who don't care about xianxia and at that point why even put it in that setting?

The character interactions are funny, but they're very one dimensional and I'm not particularly invested in any of the characters. It doesn't feel like the story world is its own world, if that makes sense? When there are scenes of everyone reacting to the MC, it feels more like the "and everybody clapped" memes/ (fake) stories. The author also has a habit of repeating things for emotional impact- if they really want to hammer a point home, it will be mentioned 3 chapters in a row, multiple times in a chapter, with nearly the exact same wording. (It feels like, "He really liked blue. Blue was the color he liked. Out of all the colors, blue was the most deserving of his love.")

However, I'm not going as far as lowering my rating to 3*, because I'm pretty sure the reason I'm so critical is because I just came from finishing ICDI, so it's too easy to compare the two. In ICDI, the world is well-developed and you can actually become attached to side characters; the game already exists, so the author doesn't have to interrupt their own story to explain the game; the characters are still somewhat 1d, but they feel like people rather than anime characters; and most importantly, the mob side characters feel more realistic. But if I hadn't read ICDI and knew what a better esports novel looked like, would I still dislike this one as much? Probably not. It's not great, but it's not actually that bad, and can even be said to be one of the better written danmei on here.

I don't recommend this novel, but I won't outright hold it in contempt. I'll just say don't put your expectations too high, and you'll probably be able to enjoy yourself. I'm still going to keep reading though since xiin is one of my favorite TLers. <<less

Awesome!!! Awesome!!! Awesome!!! So very much freaking awesome!!!

The author is right. The gaming explanations as well as romance and fluff is well balanced. But the tension between the lead couple will make you scream. One special point of this novel is the MC is a shameless extroverted boy who speaks whatever that comes to his mind. The hooking point is that the author has made it a point to express this characteristic of his even in the couple's daily interaction and other stuffs. I have never played online games in... more>> my life but me too could feel the hot blooded youthfulness and persistence to win in the novel. From now on ML is my one of the fav. Seme. Love the couple to death. Damn it! <<less

damn it, the novel is too short! I hoped that there would be a few more hundreds of chapters but sadly, ╥﹏╥. Some may think that 299 chapters is long but this! This novel! The story and characters! Made me wish that this story won't end. This novel made me feel a lot, I laughed, cried, and cheered for FTW.

LF and WX are a very very sweet and compatible pair, they really took my heart, I'm not easily attached to characters but these two! Deserve everything. I will miss them... more>> so much, it's not even a few minutes after I read the end of the full text and I'm crying again QAQ

the side characters are also very likeable, the FTW members, the previous team of the gods, the rivals, for me, everyone of them were so likeable. Not unlike some novels who introduced someone but has no depth then forget them. I like all FTW members ofcourse, especially our FTW guardian Tomson and the 3 little cubs (≧▽≦)

the writing is also very nice, I can't say anything about the game and the mechanics as I don't play games but still, I can feel the tension, the desire to win, the passion, the competitiveness, and the excitement. This novel really has a special place in my heart now HAHA.

i really hope there are extras cause my life won't be complete without them,

Spoiler

the full (main?) text ending were okay, but a bit abrupt at the end, I really want to know what are the reactions of the other teams and the audiences regarding CQ's coming out, I also want to know how many championships FTW grabbed before retiring, there's so many things I want to know I hope there's extras author-sama! (/TДT) /

anyway, this novel is totally amazing that I mtl-ed it, I don't mtl often, in fact, I mtl very very rarely. This my 6th mtl I think, out of the 280 ongoing bl novels I'm reading. (Anyway, just read this gem right! Now! Don't read reviews anymore!) I only mtl amazing novels! You'll regret if you passed this. Don't hesitate to read it. The raws are also understandable when mtl-ed. I'm gonna reread again after the tl's finished. <<less

Maybe it's because the game is actually competitive and not some random rpg game, but this is the first bl novel about games for me where reading about the game portion is ACTUALLY FUNNY and INTERESTING.

I want to chalk it up to some many things like because I just imagine this like dota2 or something, so I get it more, but ultimately the writing is just really good. I think that's what it is. The characters so good and real. The MC and ML are actually one of the best... more>> ever. They are actually the cutest. MC is brilliantly written to show off the personality he is supposed to have.

This book makes me invested in the GAME omg. Like I usually skip the game portions in other books (bc they're too long, irrelevant, and BORING BUT NOT HERE - IT IS SO INTERESTING). I really think this is a testament to how well this is written.

Claps* seriously, even if you're not into games, I truly recommend this novel for you to try. The dialogue, characters, and story are really top notch. I can't say it has a definite plot or anything, but damn this is just a fun ride! <<less

To be honest, this story is a bit boring and the plot itself is also not as great as some reviews say.

In this story, MC and ML have similar and quite complicated backgrounds... but all of this is only explained briefly.

and yes, although it's true that this story hasn't been fully translated... it's still doesn't change the fact that there are only 10 chapters left which isn't enough to write a deeper plot for MC and ML family situations (especially ML Family which more complicated).

So yeah, you can say that... more>> almost of 200+ chapters in this story are spent for the esport plot, but again the esport plot itself isn't actually that great.

Everything about the "esport" plot is actually only repeating things of how each team shouldn't depend too much on one person and how they as a team should communicate with each other, this plot is constantly being recycled and retold for all the esport team in this story... I mean the author might change some elements every time the plot is used for a different team, but in the end of the day it's all still the same plot.

There are also characters from the MC team who seem insignificant (two people apart from Bai Cai) which not have any deep impressions for the story at all, and seem to have been written only as a complement.

While on the other hand the characters of ML old team were all become important characters, which doesn't make sense considering all their current team members now are only explained soberly. <<less

Since this was so highly rated, I decided to give it a shot! It's definitely not what I was expecting, but I ended up liking it a lot~ The basic premise is that the MC (Wei Xiao), who is a professional accompanying player (someone who gets paid to accompany others to play a game), ends up being schemed to join a professional E-Sports team by the ML (Lu Feng). There's a previous history at work here, so things aren't as simple as they seem. The MC had initially been slated... more>> to join the team two years ago, but had ended up running off for some mysterious reason. This is the initial conflict of the first arc, with more and more things being revealed as the past of the ML is unveiled.

All in all, I see it as a heavily inspirational and healing kind of fic. There's not much face-slapping. Instead, you get lots of character development (not just for the two main characters but also the rest of their team and their main group of opponents). If I have to describe it, I can only say that it reminds me of Japanese Sports Anime. There the e-sports games acts as a foil to let the characters slowly grow while also developing their relationship dynamics.

If you do decide to read it, make sure that you're prepared for a long read! This story is very slow-paced, and it covers a lot of characters. Fortunately, the author is very good at introducing them, and they're all very distinctive. The comedic undertones and the fluffy romance also makes sure that things don't get too heavy, even when more sensitive topics are introduced. So, there's no reason to fear reading it if you're looking for something chill! The TL at CG is good too! Though it's currently still ongoing and may not be completed any time soon.

CHARACTERS: 10/10

As a character-centric story, if the characters weren't good, I definitely wouldn't have lasted for so long! As mentioned earlier, the characters in this novel are all distinctive and they all go through their own developmental stages.

Wei Xiao (MC)

Wei Xiao is the sunny type. In the beginning, he's a bit bogged down by his past, but that doesn't stop him from being hilarious and a breath of fresh air. He's a good MC in that he's very proactive. Always getting into trouble! But it's the fun kind!

Lu Feng (ML)

The ML is the stoic type that cherishes his words like gold. But he stands out a bit because of his soft and squishy heart and his equally (in reference to the MC) shameless tendencies.

ROMANCE: 9.5/10

The romance for this novel is the sweet and fluffy type. They get together after a bit of stumbling and feed everyone dog food the rest of the time. (I have to say... this dynamic is very similar to Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji 😂! Like, VERY similar! More specifically the MC is the loud-shameless-love-hungry!shou and the ML is the quite-still-shameless-softie!gong). Oh, there's also a lot of side CPs to ship, but they're not official? Idk cause I didn't dare to read the MTL T.T.

SETTING: 8.5/10

The E-Sports setting is admittedly hard to get into at first. Once you get used to it though, it's a little better! Still, as someone who doesn't play a lot of games, some of the initial games bored me a lot. The author did a good job introducing new game dynamics and settings later on which were a bit more visually appealing (great imagery!) but yeah, at times I wasn't able to muster up enough interest and had to skim.

PLOT: 8.75/10

The focus of the plot is different between the three arcs. The first arc is an up-close look at the MC, the second is the ML, and the third is a more wide-view. In each arc, there's something new and interesting to read about, and the author does a good job keeping things lively, but the slow pacing is definitely a bit of hassle at times.

RATING: 4.59/5

All in all? I can see now why it is so highly rated! And even if I didn't dare to read the MTL, I'm undoubtedly very eager to read it through to the end. I admit to feeling that it seems a bit too long! But at the same time, I love the characters so much that it hardly matters. I would keep reading it just to see where they all end up. <<less
