Gu Jin, your average day-to-day worker, crossed into a novel as the supporting character and best friend and cousin of the female protagonist, Cheng Xin, who was frequently surrounded by men of status and quality. The two cousins believed they’d enjoy this friendship for a lifetime.

But soon, Gu Jin discovered that the body she had crossed into had memories of future events beyond the novel’s plot, including finding out that her marriage would end in utter failure. Her husband, the second male lead named Shao Chong, would neglect their marriage because of his infatuation for Cheng Xin. On the day that Gu Jin was kidnapped and beaten to death, her good husband stayed by her cousin’s side and accompanied her to the hospital.

When Gu Jin transmigrated into this novel world and learned of the truth, she refused to waste this new life as a supporting role for her cousin the way the previous soul had done. She refused to live her life as a spectator in someone else’s love story. No. She would be the protagonist of her own romance in this new life.

Although the story is somewhat mediocre, I don't think it deserves anything lower than 4 so I rated 5 stars. Fluffy story. Read if you want some stress free reading

  1. Is this a five star novel? Well not exactly by my standards bc the male lead is mediocre, but I wanted to boost up the ratings. I have no idea why the ratings are all over the place, this was a surprisingly good novel. The wrapping of the story and each character turned out so well. Albeit cliche, I felt that the endings for main characters satisfied me more than other more well rated novels-bc sometimes face slapping and wishing the worst for ppl just isn't satisfying enough. The outcome of the original FL is very realistic.
    Spoiler

I'm glad that she grows up and although they grow distant, their blood ties are still there (bc of their mothers).

    [collapse]
I only wish that the male lead was less cringy and there were more slice of life moments.
  2. edit: I see why the ratings are all over the place now! It makes me so happy to see ppl criticizing the male lead of these novels hukkkk. I rem reading a popular novel where the ML is absolutely tr*sh and questioning how so many ppl liked it.

I liked it, both leads were fine. Although the ML was a bit of an overbearing CEO he wasn't bad, both leads were attracted to each other (although it took her longer but she wasn't repulsive of him), he made her date him by pretty much blackmail, but she was fine with it, she didn't even have doubts and it helped her get rid of other suitors. I'm usually against these tropes but it didn't feel too manipulative here because she knew what she was doing, it wasn't stressing.

She... more>> sometimes played hard to get but in this novel it wasn't really showing how the MC wasn't an easy girl, it was more like... teasing him. They communicated well enough, they could read the others' expressions so there weren't really any misunderstandings, the characters weren't dense. There wasn't much drama but I liked it like this. My only complaint is that the ending was too rushed, I was sooo confused. At least my questions were somewhat cleared in the extras but it just wasn't that satisfactory. But honestly it was just like a summary, it suddenly ended, then they time skipped and they gave a summary of what happened, it was a bummer tbh.

Anyway as for consent... I don't really have any big issue with it because both had like a tacit understanding and were fine with whatever, their first meeting wasn't the best but he was drugged and she didn't let herself get dragged by him. If she was fine with something she consented, if she wasn't she could just... attack. Maybe if the MC were different I might not have the same opinion but due her personality I just don't really have an issue with it, she never let herself be disrespected.

And honestly... it's not as if she were innocent either lol.
Spoiler

I mean... mid trial relationship she groped him

[collapse]
The author might have given it a trope of a trial relationship bc he holds her heirloom BUT it the plot was as best executed as it could. The MC had an attitude of I might as well give this a shot but without telling him. I mean, it makes sense, if I'm interested in someone that seems to like me I might as well keep it to myself until I'm clear that they aren't too annoying.

Also I liked how the oriFL and oriML weren't "evil", just annoying, selfish and immature. The villains were still the villains. I don't like how in some novels the oriFL suddenly turns to be evil, it just doesn't make as much sense. This FL did seem like a FL, just an annoying one tho. <<less

Wow. If your looking for a binge read, I suggest this.

MC is your typical reincarnator, and had experience many lives before. I really like her because you could see that she doesn’t try to meddle at situation’s which deeply scarred the owner. I would have liked it if she just dated the second male lead but that the male lead is cool too I guess, maybe because if she dated the ML then she could fulfill the revenge as a sign of gratitude for the owner for lending her body.

You... more>> will be disgusted by the acts of Shao Chong and Cheng Xin. In no world would anything justify their actions.

Spoiler

First, Cheng Xin knew of Shao Chong’s feelings and instead of rejecting him, she tried to keep him close. For what? Back up?
Second, Cheng Xin pushed her “sister” into a relationship that will not make her happy. Imagine your husband treating another girl better than you. She says they are “best friends” but I would never EVER push my best friend into a relationship that will make her unhappy.

Third, Shao Chong is really a dick, he knew! If you couldn’t man up to your feelings at least don’t drag others, in order to satiate your greed to get close to Cheng Xin. Gu Jin loved him for years and he never reciprocated, bro that is your wife! The person who will be with you for the rest of your life???

[collapse]

Relationship: I’m quite satisfied with it, it’s short and sweet. Although the dude can be a bit pushy but the MC can handle herself. ML is your typical overbearing, nothing new there but at least he didn’t force her right. Well the first one was an accident lol. <<less

This was a fine and quick read. There wasn't any real big drama going on. Everything flowed smoothly and nicely.

I like the FLs strong personality and how the ML was very sweet towards her. Half way through though, I got bored from the lack of drama and just wanted to get it over with this novel.

I was quite disappointed by it only because I found the whole story quite underwhelming.

On one hand, this was quite short but on the other hand I couldn't help but feel quite bored reading it. I suppose the author tried to put to many different plots in it and everything ended up quite flat.

My favorite part however was Cheng Xin's end (ori!FL) :

I really enjoy seeing characters trying to break out of the personality they were assigned.

As the original Female Lead, CX is possibly the most 1D character of the whole book. Her whole personality revolves on her halo and her romance with the original ML.

In her little extra, however, it is shown she has been trying to become someone -I guess a real girl. Apart from her ML and her sidekick, she had to grow and even started getting some "visions" of what Gu Jin's end should have been had the plot stayed on track. She is seen as someone that actually isn't just fictional anymore but with just one phone call, it's obvious she will be back to her role.

This made me think of all the heroines that turned white lotus or antagonist because they actually did not have a mind of their own. CX was created as a heroine and never to have a life outside of a novel even if she tried her hardest.

[collapse]

PS: I see a lot of people have been talking about s*xual assault. In my opinion, there isn't any and while ML an be quite controlling, I think it's more due tomhis low EQ than anything.

in the scene shere they meet in ambiguous circumstances, nothing happens. Yes, had she not defended herself, it would have been a whole different story but not only she did but ML did NOT want her in his arms either. <<less

This is a light novel without much conflict and unnecessary misunderstanding. It's perfect for quick read. MC (Gu Jin) transmigrates into novel story where she becomes a sidekick for female protagonist. The novel itself is revolved around female and male protagonist so MC has no idea about her own ending in the novel. After learning her ending through the past Gu Jin's memories, MC decides to avoid male/female protagonist and also 2nd male lead, Shao Chong, who become her husband in previous life.

I usually enjoy novel with transmigration story and... more>> overall, I enjoy this novel too. But somehow, I hate the ending.

Spoiler

Really, Cheng Xin? Your Jing Hao ruthlessly dump you and choose to marry someone else while turning a blind eye with your family's problem. Yet you still love him till the end and even try to justify his action. Did she forget that his action makes her father sick? Is her father means nothing to her? Although I hate Cheng Xin but her ending is simply ridiculous. Maybe they deserve each other.

As for Shao Chong, he claims that he's already over Cheng Xin and starts to love Gu Jin for real but he still comes when Cheng Xin calls him and even ignores Gu Jin's call. Although he justify himself that he only accompany Cheng Xin because she's in critical condition and Jing Hao is abroad, I still dont buy it even a bit. Doesn't Cheng Xin still has her parent? He deserves to be miserable till the end. But I confuse why his family banish him in current life. Is he annoy Mu Mincheng so much thus affecting his family's company?

As for Gu Jin's ending, why bother make 2 version? V1: Gu Jin ends up with Mu Mincheng while V2: Gu Jin ends up with Tong Lin. I know author just want to make it fair for both transmigrated Gu Jin and original Gu Jin but what about Mu Mincheng in the alternate ending?

Woah I really think this one doesnt deserve the 1/2 stars people give. I think people need to give this one a chance. It was an enjoyable read if you can ignore the one-dimensional ML who is basically a copy-&-paste of a typical CN overbearing CEO.

I have spent months letting this novel rot in my "Want to Read" reading list because of all the 1-2 star reviews. Reading the reviews I felt like the ML r*ped the FL and it was full of physical abuse and angst for the FL, however yesterday while searching the seas for a story to pass my time with I happened to end up on this page again and read the reviews from readers who said that they were glad they didn't get scared by the 1-2 star rating reviews.... more>> In the end I decided to give it a go.

I'm glad I did.

This novel is a proper 3.5-4 rating novel. There was definitely no abuse. Yes, the ML was someone who came on too strong but the FL was no white flower. She knew exactly what was happening and she let it happen herself.

In fact:

Spoiler

The first s*x was decided and initiated by her. After which she wakes up the next day and leaves the ML.

[collapse]

Also:

Spoiler

When it came to the important things, the ML always respected the FL. He didn't try to have s*x with her until she initiated it. He didn't try to come around and force her to take him back when she left him the next morning. Instead, he waited until she finished her semester finals and then approached her. He also (while getting engaged with her) never forced her to marry him until she was ready herself (Albiet ehem they did have no choice when they found the bun in the oven was baking).

[collapse]

Overall:
Spoiler

The ML isn't as bad as the others are saying he is.

[collapse]

I'm glad I read this story, it was very cute and I liked how the entire pacing went on. It was nothing to give too much though to, just something to read and feel good about.

That being said, This opinion is subjective to me who may not be as sensitive as the other posters so please read after you evaluate your limitations. <<less

It was actually a nice novel. I’m doubtful about reading at first bcoz of some reviews but, I’m thankful I’ve given it a chance. It really just sometimes not your cup of tea.

All in all, I enjoyed it, I just hoped, they have given more details about their life after marriage with the little bun.

I read it in two days, it was a good read. The translation was well done, I love that they also did the comedic author's notes. I'm only knocking a star off for two reasons: 1) I honestly didn't care for the romance between MC & her ML it was cute & funny but eh, to be honest their stories outside the romance were more interesting. ... more>>
Spoiler

I would have like to seen more of how he dealt with the family fall out after he revealed his grandfather's plans.

[collapse]
2) the ending was rather abrupt.

I liked that we got to see the past life and why her original husband had such an about-face in his feelings. But disappointed we didn't see the reaction of the cousin (did she even feel guilty for taking away her cousin's husband??). the epilogue with Cheng Xin was good, you see her maturity and regret... until it implies she got back with her ex, like the man left you and let his fiancee cause your family problems and you still got back with him?! WTF?!?! The epilogue with the Original Gu Jin was probably my favorite because I had hoped there'd be something with the club president in the main story but there wasn't, and she finally got some happiness with someone she likes and has things in common. She deserves good things. <<less

Wasn't terrible, but wasn't great either.

Story was interesting at first, very typical "one-night encounter" where ML is drugged. Meets FL again under a different circumstances, semi-forces her to be in a relationship yada yada yada. However, I never really felt any chemistry between the FL and ML. Their relationship lacks depth. The ending was also quite abrupt, and although I appreciate the author trying to give closure to the original characters, it didn't really resonate with me.

I'll give 2 stars for it being HE and with a cute child. BUT it still don't deserve that mercy. The story was platonic and without emotion. I never felt their progress and was shocked that they were already declaring their undying love to each other. Where the f*ck is the love? I don't see it. Such a waste of completed translation when there are better novels out there left untranslated. What a shame.

P.S: Believe me when I say you're wasting your time 'cause I did. Those other good reviews?... more>> They must be blind. <<less

I went in expecting a cliche transmigration story, even so I was disappointed.

The story feels very lacking and it's full of comments to fulfill the author's vanity.
I really detest stories where the major point is to describe how flawless the female lead is constantly; all other characters are just there to make her look better. One thing that's common in these stories is how they make the original soul seem worse than the transmigrator; here before MC transmigrated, the woman was a plain/dull existence easily overlooked. As soon as MC arrives, she becomes dazzling and everyone is filled with regret. (Que massive eye roll session)
For someone so constantly described like they're an amazing existence, I found her incredibly boring and plain. It's like she didn't care about anything.

Let's talk about the male lead. What kind of role model is he? As soon as they first meet;

Spoiler

Of course, he's been drugged and she enters his room at a restaurant. He tries to do her and takes in her scent, then when she fights back and hurts him he gets ticked off and decides to deal with her later. All this while he blames her for hurting him! He then blackmails her to enter a sketchy relationship, and he's always overbearing and doesn't care about her wants or needs.

[collapse]

Later, in their relationship;

Spoiler

Without even talking to her, he tells her parents they're getting engaged and hope to marry after she graduates. I don't think I need to explain that any further.

[collapse]

This guy isn't even a yandere, he's a creepy and disturbing man who seem to be forgiven for everything because he's cold, handsome &rich. I just get goosebumps, though.

The side characters were all half-heartedly used and left behind, leaving a lot of questions.
MC forgot about the original soul, pretty much. I don't understand why she was even transmigrated as a plot when she was going to be so shitty about it. She died so cruelly but they never went deep into details about it. Most of the story felt focused on her and ML's very dull romance.

I haven't felt this frustrated in a while, probably because I expected it to be mediocre but it was worse than so.

It is a HE. The romance was sort of automatic and a bit rushed. Another soul occupied the FL's body so she is more objective since she knew the book's ending. I gave it 3.5 stars because some parts of the story annoyed me with their actions. The FL was annoying at some points.
Spoiler

One thing is the new FL didn't go after the thieves who mu*dered the original FL?

[collapse]

I like the epilogues after the ending, especially the FL's original husband's POV.
Spoiler

He realized how much of a dirt bag he was and his prioritization was wrong. He thought that he too, has a second chance with re-incarnation, that he can make it up to the FL. But the original FL is no longer there but a different soul has occupied her body. Sadly, he could have had true happiness in the first life but will never achieve it in the next life. He will never meet that unborn child of his with the original FL's. He can never get redemption for his mistake.

[collapse]

About the antagonists:
Spoiler

I felt it was too lenient on the male antagonist. The female antagonist changed for the better but how she easily accepted the male antagonist again after he threw her away for his business and wife-to-be, I felt she should have more backbone. At least she isn't dense/self-centered anymore and forces emotions onto people

[collapse]

About the original FL's soul:
Spoiler

In an alternate life, she gets her HE with another guy who loved her but never got the fate to start it in the first life. She has more backbone against the antagonist and can see objectively. Lol. I want to read more into her storyline!

This book was just so-so, it wasn't bad, but not as good as I expected. 150 chapters flashed by in a blink of an eye. Good enough to kill some time I guess. But I did like how the transmigrated FL didn't immediately cut off the heroine and planned everything slowly. She also wasn't stubborn in rejecting the ML, even took the initiative to get together with him after she realized her own feeling.

The ML... well, he is your typical overbearing male lead. He did force the FL to be... more>> his girlfriend by using her family heirloom to threaten her right after he assaulted her in a drunken state. Not the best way to start a relationship, and certainly did not leave a good impression. But meh, he's called the ML for a reason. I'll let that slide.

The heroine also admitted her mistakes and changed for the better. I've read a few books where the heroine turned into a s*upid villainess and it annoyed me every time. I wasn't really satisfied that the author hinted she got back together with the book's original male lead tho. He was a total scum, you deserve better, honey.

The extras which showed the life of the original host caused me to shed some tears as well. I couldn't help but empathize with her. But it's great that the original host was also rebirthed into an alternate universe. I wish her well.

Overall I still feel that this book is lacking in some parts. The story didn't get too deep and it left me hanging. But as I said, this book was just good enough to release some boredom. I finished it in less than a day. 5/5. <<less

The plot was promising but the final chapters just barely saved the whole story.

The translation was pleasant but because the storytelling ran ragged (too fast when it should have been more detailed in some parts and the opposite in others), I couldn't help feeling that it was abrupt.

If you're looking for a quick read though then this story is just fine.
