By some freak coincidence, Song Ci mistakenly consumed the blood of the Demon King, causing himself to become a demon too. A weak scholar…… forced to suffer in silence.

What was even more tragic was that no matter where he went, demons would attack him from all directions braying for his blood, or they would squeeze his neck while interrogating him about his relationship with the Demon King.

As such, Song Ci became an anti-fan of the Demon King. Regardless of who praised the Demon King, he would be the first to stand out and refute them.

Song Ci fled for his life as he searched for the gate leading to the Demon Realm. Along the way, he clung on to the thigh of an influential man, and went to great pains to persuade him to slay the Demon King together with him and restore peace to the human world.

Song Ci, “Sooner or later, I will skin the Demon King, rip the tendons off him, and drink his blood!”

Rong Bai (smiling), “I admire the way you think.”

Who knew that, after entering the demon realm —

Tens of thousands of monsters bowed their heads and kowtowed to this thigh beside him and shouted “Long live the Demon King!”

Song Ci was stunned.

Rong Bai (smiling), “What did you say you were going to do when you came to the Demon Realm?”

Song Ci, “It, it’s all a misunderstanding……”

It is a good read. I love Song Ci's silliness and the characters' interaction with one another. The flashbacks can get quite long and a bit confusing with the large cast, but it does explain a lot of the motives behind each character.

5/5 translation though

A nicely written story with slow burn romance and adventure! The MC has some good character growth too. He went from being dependent to becoming independent. This novel here has no force touching and pervy stuff, so if you're someone looking for no forcing stuff, then this novel is safe. Just a little warning that this novel might tug your heartstrings a little.

if you're looking for something similar to read, then try reading Jiang Hu's road is curved. It's not a BL story though, but shares similar character growth of... more>> becoming independent.

my ratings for this novel is a 5/5

PS: If You want to MTL this novel by using google translations, it's actually pretty easy to read compared to other novels. <<less

Honestly holachica's review knocks it out of the park, I came here to say the same things they said (except they did a better job than I would have).

In summary: this story is like potato chips, it tastes good as long as you don't need any actual nutrition.

First of all, I wanna put this out that, yes, this novel is worth a read. Worth a second read? Maybe not, at least for me.

It started very good, the plot was interesting, catchy too, and both characters had their interesting traits. I genuinely enjoyed the beginning of it.

The translation is top-notch, honestly done by one of my favourite translators, so that's not a problem at all.

Problem arises in the later part of the book. The writing is confusing. There was character development, but it was so abrupt it felt... more>> absurd.

Especially the timeline. I did understand it, but a lot of it made no sense, at least to me

Nonetheless, I still did enjoy this book, and it's worth checking out <<less

This novel started out super strong and I was convinced I’d found a new favorite but then it got reeeaalllyyy muddled in the end.

I wish they’d stayed on the original plot point throughout it and not brought in new elements like that.

Tbh I only fully read the first 2 chapters.

The beginning was confusing but after reading the summary I kinda got what was going on but the novel just didn't catch my attention. I just began skimming through it all starting on the 3rd chapter all the way up til the end. The only reason I didn't drop it was cuz of my habit of always finishing the novel. The arcs felt way to long and just unnecessary overall....

The only thing I actually liked was how the MC kept insulting the... more>> Demon King even though the ML (Demon King) was right beside him. <<less

Would’ve DNF-ed if it were not for my pride.

This novel was too long and convoluted and I honestly couldn’t grasp anything happening.

Some of the story arcs (and by that I mean half of the story) were too complicated and did not matter in the long run.

4.5 If it's confusing at times, I honestly think it's because it's a literary masterpiece (in it's own way, I mean I can't read the Chinese ver but). The plot is pretty f*cking deep. All these turns are necessary and lead you somewhere. The plot is always moving, the stories and side characters have depth and meaning and contribute to the main characters and overall direction of the plot.

It is so well written it's astounding and heart wrenching (not in an angst way). If it weren't for the ending ... more>>

This is constructed like a detective novel. The story is very interesting, with mistery resolved that adds to a bigger mistery.

A lot of care goes also into the character development through the story told (not one of those novels where we can only understand characters through their thoughts- I hate those, they are such lazy writing).

The novel is from the MC's point of view, so we discover everyting together with him. Of course, there are clues everywere, but the resolutions still sometimes surprise me.

The love between the MC and ML... more>> is very slow burn. You can see some light glimpses, but still sweet.

I cannot wait for the next chaper after I finish one. The translation is superb, I can see that the translator has a lot of care for this novel. Also, the chapters are released quite often. <<less

First of all! I really really really really like the characters! Every arc, every character they all seem very alive... when I stumbled upon this novel, I almost killed myself to death because everything I've been looking for is here!!! Although it's a slowburn... 哇哇哇! It's OK. The heartsrings are long tugged from the very start...

Even though the novel is not completely translated, you could feel the roller coaster of emotions on the novel... it makes me laugh, then the very next second it would make me cry, and so... more>> on and on.

I really like Wen ChangChu's shamelessness... reminds me of WWX but I know nothing can beat the level of WWX'S shamelessness 哈哈哈哈哈!

In favor of liking and rating this novel 4.5/5 ⭐️

i do find the plot a bit hard to understand and needed to read a few times to understand what the plots mean. But overall, the plot, the characters and the main couple, the setting, are very nice to indulge in. I love how MC slowly and unknowingly falling for the ML, and ML forever doting on MC. Also, thank you for making MC becoming strong and have a happy ending with ML. Thank you to translators for picking up this.

  • Was not expecting to like this so much after looking at the mixed reviews but I'm so glad I jumped in. I feel that the pacing, story arcs and character development are all pretty well done and complete. MC and ML both went through a lot growing up and were practically made for each other by accident.

I really liked how this novel started especially the adventures of MC/ML towards their journey to the demon realm.

Honestly, the novel starts out fine. The characters are fun, and given the wide disparity between the main leads personalities and social standing, there’s always an anticipation on how the relationship is going to evolve. I enjoyed reading the first half. But the ending falls short of expectations, it felt forced and rushed. It felt as if the author ran out of ideas and just couldn’t wait to conclude the story by any means, even if it doesn’t make much sense. Song Ci’s background arc and his sudden personality change... more>> towards the end lacked context. And character devolution for Rong Bai was rather disappointing aswell. <<less

Lianyin's great translation is what kept me going to the end.

I skimmed halfway through tbf. I agree what others have already said in their review. I think FDCM is good if you want something cute without needing much brain to read.

Song Ci was cute enough. Rong Bai was a devoted lover who waits for his other one for who knows hundreds of years. Two lonely souls finding each other to their happy end.

... more>> My reasons why I give it 3 star

  1. The characters. As the author has other works in the same universe as FDCM, a lot of their characters are incorporated here. The bad thing about it is you don't know who tf they are what is their background, what's their purpose, not much explanation whatsoever. Side characters are flat. Main characters themselves has problem in development.
  2. The plot. World building wise many things are unexplainable and one time used I think. The Mo Yao sect for example, then the demon side and divine realm isn't much explain. But that may be just me nitpicking since this novel is quite short I think.
  3. Romance is late and so few. But I don't think that is as bad as the 2 points above for me.
Well, I love how cute MC and ML are. I mean, it's foxes. Imagine them cuddling with those tails. Once again shout out to Lianyin for the great translation. 5/5 for it <<less

Novels like this one is the very reason why I refuse to drop a premature positive review nor give a high rating to a seemingly good and 'promising' story until I reach the conclusion because, as per my previous experience, some are only good at the start but sadly fail big time in consistency, thus, inevitably results to a great disappointment. I don't want to give future readers false hopes for a story if they happen to run into one of my reviews.

Originally, I thought of giving this a 2-star... more>> rating because it really made me angry, but since I find the premise unique and I enjoyed the first half of the story progression, I'm giving it 2.5 stars (I'm generous so I'm rounding it up to 3 stars, lol).

The reason? Read below.

STORY:

The provided synopsis here in NU was enough for me to plunge into this seemingly interesting premise, and I'm telling you it's really interesting. This has been sitting here in my reading list for a really long time now, and I'm 'cleaning up'. Taking the title to account, I thought the overall story would revolve around the MC's 'adventure' in becoming a full-pledged fox demon, but oh boy, was I wrong. Since this is already fully-translated, I will skip the overview and say what I thought about this novel as a whole, and that is—this is a frickin' heck of a let-down!

The start was good, the world building was interesting, almost all the characters were introduced and were given enough description to add color to the cast—but! There's a big BUT here because everything went downhill as if the author took an indefinite leave to go somewhere and somebody else took over as it failed big time in terms of consistency. This is what I hate the most when reading a novel, especially when I found myself already investing time and emotions in full blast because I was very hooked and promises were laid out before me after reading just a few chapters. I mentioned that I don't leave positive reviews/ratings here in NU unless I finished reading the particular 'interesting' story first because part of my scoring involves the writing's consistency all throughout the story progression and the overall enjoyment. And in this one, everything went into a disarray starting from the 'time travel' part. All of a sudden, it seems as though the main characters had a change of personality which made me furrow my brows like a bitter gourd! And man, this happened in the three-fourths part of the story, and as if the author was not satisfied enough, she made the MC do the OOC stunt like, the heck! I was like still looking where the heck was the "fox cultivation" thingy and you gave me a totally different MC instead out of the blue as part of the... plot? I mean, I get that the MC's background is a little 'tragic' and all to succumb to inner demons and such, but I really find the turn of events a little too disjointed if we're going to take into account his initial 'introduced' personality and the romance part of the story. I'm very sorry to say—and utterly disappointed at that—that the romance between the two is very unnatural and forced, and to suddenly make the MC like a possessive freak where you won't even have a clue where it's coming from.. hah! You got my 'praise'. Heck, I can't believe this was all made in the last few chapters! I really wanted to understand this part and I'm not sure if the translation has anything to do with this mind-boggling 'confusion'. But oh well...

So there. 2.5 star off for semi-flop characterization, failed consistency and overall enjoyment. Despite some glaring negative reviews given here, I didn't expect it was really that bad. Damn, I'm really pissed...

CHARACTERS:

Since the characters was part of the reason why I got mad, this will be short xD

The MC of the story is Song Ci, who 'mistakenly' drank a demon's blood. Maybe one of the mystery and to-solve riddles here in the story is how it all happened and will the MC succeed in 'negotiating' with the demon king. And the Demon King, the ML, is Rong Bai.

To be very honest, I find the MC likeable despite being a little bland. I love his courage, his brains... but that's just before the 'time travel' event. I mean, I still like him. It's not his fault the author decided to 'abandon the ship' and sell him off to be a yandere prick. And about the ML, aside from being especially OP, nothing really much to say about him. Again, I really think the 'time travel' thingy really messed up everything because ML really acted like some "love at first sight" candidate 'there' all of a sudden. Like you know, where was all the fondness all coming from? Care to explain? I really hate to think that the author was really that thirsty to slap in fluff contents that's why it was there...

And about the side characters, I have no complaints. Well, I liked that they were written in full color. Some of their side stories even made me cry.

OVERALL:

A traumatizing read.

Like you know, some 'promises' were not fulfilled, and if I was one of the author's subscribers who paid for each release just to read what happens next, I would certainly ask for a refund. A perfect example of poor plot execution planning (this is not slice-of-life, ya know...).

So, would I recommend reading this one? The answer is "no". Save yourself from disappointment. But if you think you have the time and feel like taking up the challenge to see for yourself what this story is all about, go ahead. It's a mix of adventure, mystery-solving and drama. And the romance? Not really romantic at all but I gotta say the smut chapter is one of the hottest, lol~ <<less

There is nothing worse than a novel that start greatly but plummeted down so hard at then end. It is already great at start. If the author keep it as it is then it good. But the last arc. The second last arc was already good to end the story. But idk what happened. It just ruined the story imo. I skipped... more>> literally most of it to go to ending.
