Let Me Game in Peace

1 drop of blood = 1-Up

Other people game overnight, I game overnight and bleed.

Ever since the dimensional storms descended upon Earth, numerous dimensional zones have appeared, bringing with them all kinds of dimensional creatures—Immortals, Buddhas, Devils, Angels, Elves, etc.

Yet, all these strange dimensional zones can turn into dungeon instances on my phone. Other people risk their lives adventuring, I spend all my time gaming.

Monsters drop dimensional crystals that boost stats, imbue new skills, and join me as Companion Beasts. These Companion Beasts fight alongside me or alone, augmenting me with their skills and strength. Rare monsters in real life? I’ll just restart the game with a drop of blood to grind it.

I really need a blood transfusion.

This starts off as a fun action and comedy-based novel that progresses and turns into something greater. I really enjoyed this novel due to a couple of reasons:

1) Interesting world with great world building - Author has created a rich world with a set power level and various pets with their own abilities. While there are pretty OP pets, there are other pets that can counter such things and when accompanied by the owner's own abilities, it turns into well-balanced fights (except for the MC cuz he's broken OP). The... more>> world building is done nice and slow, not given in huge info-dumps like other novels. There are a ton of things we don't know and I feel like this is gonna be a long ass novel (idk if its gonna stay good tho).

2) MC - Our MC is nonchalant, calm, and focused. He does not let his emotions get ahold of him and when he focuses on something, he does exactly that. There's very little development of our MC, but that's not always bad. A novel doesn't always need the MC to develop (take Goku from DBZ, he remains the same throughout the entire series and instead changes other ppl like Vegeta). Our MC remains calm and focused while the world around him changes and he meets new/interesting side characters.

3) No Romance - There are some cool/interesting girls, but no harem and no romance so far.

4) Pacing - Its like there are a couple of main quests with a ton of side quests. This could be annoying/a con for most ppl, but I actually liked this. Author throws out a lot of stuff that MC ignores until later when he can come back and do them. Its fun to see MC come back to an old dungeon or something and enter the place which he couldn't before cuz he wasn't strong enough or didn't have the right pet.

Some Cons:

1) This is a Chinese novel so there's definitely arrogant young masters which is kinda annoying.

2) Plot progression - All MC wants to do is sit around and game in peace (hence the title), however, he is constantly forced to do things in school, outside of school, help people who he owed, enter dungeons in rl, etc. MC is not driving the story forward, instead, it drags him unwillingly.

3) MC - While I like these type of nonchalant MCs, sometimes his actions were frustrating to read.

Overall, I really enjoyed this novel and while I did get a bit frustrated at the MC or at some plot points of the novel, it was still good enough to keep reading. <<less

I have enjoyed most of what I have read but it's not a great story. Just one of those you read to pass time and sort of 'can't drop till you finish' type of a story.

This started out great but soon became cliche. The MC gets lucky item/ability right before he needs it. There's also a pointless harem subplot, confusing time jumps, and insane power levels that defy understanding. Basically, it becomes a story where every rule is broken or changed whenever it's convenient for the next battle.

I really like it. It is simple and fun and stays core to the truth "just let him game in peace". Really, the pacing is exceptional, I didn't notice how fast I completed 150+ chapters. The world is interesting, the system has its flaws, but none that detract from the story. 5*!

I find this novel very fun.

The MC is bland, sure, especially where I’m at (which is a secret :P). But I get that, y’know. I’d probably be the same if I were given a chance. I mean, genius talent and a game that would allow me to soar higher without risking anything but blood loss? Give me that, please.

The other characters are nice, as well. I’m hoping for more interactions that wouldn’t end in praise for the MC, not that there’s much of that, or just disbelief or something at... more>> how much into the game the MC is. I’m not exactly expecting a confession or therapy session, but maybe some appreciation for Li Xuan or another friend would be nice.

The potential plot is somewhat interesting, though it may take a while before I even reach the story’s climax. Can’t have the MC die just because they didn’t have enough training chapters, so I guess the rather slow pace so far is okay.

Thanks yo the author, translator and editors for the efforts they put into this novel! <<less

Good novel, nice concept, if you like unique novels such as Super god gene, monster paradise, monster pet evolution, then you must be like this one too. Cultivating monster into Mc’s strength and become his companion, new found monsters, unique abilities of monsters. I read the raw until ch. 1000, and it was quite addictable. Although until ch.500 the development is still slow and boring however, later the story managed to piqued my interest, for example about the mystery of earth, disappearances of his grandpa and etc. MC very likable... more>> and smart but he is greedy and a bit selfish in my opinion even though he already have a godlike cheat game, he still unsatisfied person, it makes even readers got jealous of him and more curious about the origin of that game. <<less

This is a good novel for people who are into monster collection and merging aspects of a novel. This novel is in the same veins as monster's paradise but it feels a bit inferior as this whole novel is filled to brim with countless coincidences and filler arcs that the author tries his best to hide but fails at it.... the 800ch I have read can easily be compressed into 400ch mark as not much happened till where I read beside the usual filler.

But as for the story itself, we... more>> have a MC that can download a copy of dimensional zones on his phone and can explore them to his hearts content with no mortal danger and hence hunt for new monsters to capture. But the main gripe is that he can only take out monsters to real world.. other things remain in the downloaded world and will reset if he dies in game.

As for MC himself, he is neutral good character that faces everything cautiously. He never get's drunk on power and takes everything seriously. I really prefer MC like this. As for supporting characters, most are passable with few good ones in it. There is even character development in some.

BTW but we all know why you are going to read it... the monsters are the main heart of this novel, but even though some are unique and special, their stats are not being defined correctly, it feels more like the author just abandoned that aspect of novel and treats them like fillers too.
I would have gladly rated it 3, but as I due to its entertainment value.. giving it a 4. Monster's Paradise is a better alternative to this even now. <<less

i dont know why this novel has such good ratings

the MC its boring, the other characters are 1 dimensional and boring, the power scaling its subpar

and the novels lack an obscene amount of details, we dont know what represent the strength others than numbers, we dont know if the punch of a mortal grade dude can actually destroy a concrete floor, or if a legend rank can actually lift a car, we dont know anything that gives us a single hint of how strong are the people in the history,... more>> and the times where there was a description, the object of comparison was another thing that we didnt know what was its strength. Ej: "the punch of the MC produced gusts of wind that send flying the other gold monsters that were nearing" this was when the MC had the strength of legend

yeah the monster are supposedly of gold, but we dont know an approximated weight of them and never were we given an explanation of anything of how strong is the mc

neither were we given details of the appearance of the MC other than him having brown eyes and the others characters arent much better

it was a totally waste of time rading 158 chapters <<less

Only after I reached the end that I realized that this novel was made by the same author that wrote Super Gene. Super Gene was rated 2 stars by me due to its subpar background story that ruined the whole thing, fortunately the author made improvements and I can say that this novel was quite enjoyable.

The story set in a world littered by dimensional zones, it's a kind of dungeon system. We followed a man named Zhou Wen who got his hands on a weird phone that enables him to... more>> play this dungeons without the risk of dying while getting all the benefits.

There are some limits on this cheat and I really like how the author actually stick to the rules without adding too many variations or distortions to it.

The overall story was your standard weak to strong and the levelling system was made so that MC can stay in one level for a prolonged period of time, yes this does make the story felt a bit slow but there was only 4 major levels in total, with the last level divided into 3 big divides. It's not easy to level up either, which made this story quite long at 1900 chapters.

Despite the long chapters, the story was actually quite varied thanks to the colorful dimensional zones that took inspiration from Myths and Legends, there were also a line of interesting side characters throughout the story.

There are some drawbacks like the sudden power level increase to match MC's progress, or the way some battle was won due to the sheer thickness of plot armor. I'm way used to this kind of tropes and the author didn't really went overboard with the plotholes.

The ending was open ended, not the greatest ending I'd like from a novel but it at least doesn't leave a bitter taste in my mouth.

Overall, good stuff, Super Gene has a more interesting setup, but LMGIP is clearly the better written one. A solid 3, 5 stars from me though I'll score it 4. <<less

Let Me Game in Peace

True, the title of this novel is not the most engaging one, but its good place in the ranking of both Novelupdates and Webnovel, as well as the first chapter of the manhua adaptation made me give it a go. So, was I well inspired ?

The protagonist, Zhou Wen, appears at first as a gaming obsessed loner, he really is an intelligent, pragmatic and focused character. In fact, his ability to absolutely focused on a task or event is his main advantage. He also has a... more>> low emotional quotient, which leads to many comedic situations, especially in his relations with women (there is no romance, but most attempts on him are really funny). He also is something of an anti-hero at time, as shown with his mercilessness toward his foes. Overall, a very good main character.

But he is not the only one, as most other characters are as well made as him. Whether they are allies (like Li Xuan), his foes, his mentor or others, they have their own traits, merits, flaws and goals. Those are important as part of the plot for the relations between some of these people with the MC can be fluid, depending if their aims (both over and/or hidden align with those of the protagonist).

Speaking of the plot, this and the setting are the best points of the novel. What seems at first to be a story of academy life in a world of mixed martial arts cultivation and pokemon training is in fact a tale of conspiracies, power -play, rife with both epic fights and rich intrigue (even the epilogue has its surprises). Add to this the facts that there are few scenes of pure power suppression (most foes have weaknesses the MC can cleverly exploit) and that the special gaming phone Zhou Wen uses for power-up is both powerful but also has severe limitations, and you have an excellent story that will keep you on edge until the slightly rushed but fine and open ending (if you want a comparison, it’s not Lord of the Mysteries, it’s the level right below). The power system, while simplistic at first, is quite good, moreover the protagonist progression is not exactly the normal one.

The translation is excellent, no mistake, typos of mistranslations I can remember of, as usual for CKTalon

My final verdict for Let Me Game in Peace is a 9 out of 10. It’s one of the best novel available on Webnovel, I can only recommend it.

P.S: Thanks to Twelve-Winged Dark Seraphim for writing this story and to CKTalon for translating it. <<less

It's a good story. The story is action packed and fast paced, so you won't get any boring moments. There are many twists and turns (I would say way too many), which keeps the story exciting at all times. The Protagonists is kind of pacifist, not a bloodthirsty xianxia protagonist we usually get. Main reason is his cheat, which means he doesn't have to initiate fight to get stronger for resources or something. There are no dumb side characters, they don't get much character development but they don't fall flat... more>> either. Every new character gets a decent intro and their own roles in the story. And because of the Dimensional Zones, the author gives us all kind of wacky situations and ideas. This I think is one of the strength of the story, the author has created a framework where he can add any crazy idea and it would make sense in the story. Unlike other xianxia, here a higher Cultivation doesn't mean you can't be beaten, even those at the top can be killed in a random Dimensional Zone or defeated by some unique set of abilities by some weaker person.

MC gets way too many lucky chances. He gets unique Abilities, powerful Companions Beasts all the time, but it doesn't make the story less exciting. The ending resolves nearly all of the plot threads. But it is still an open ending, maybe there will be a sequel story for this someday. Could be interesting, but I think I like this as a standalone story more.

If I had to say something that I find lacking, I would say a lack of POVs from another characters, or atleast more about their plans or even what they are doing. The story mostly focuses on MC itself, so everytime we get something new it surprises the MC and the Reader. This is intersting, for most of the situation. But not when our side character suddenly show a new ability out of nowhere or know something they shouldn't. And this is fine when it happens lets say 2 out of 10 times, but here it's most of the time, side characters or antagonists will suddenly show us something new out of nowhere. It doesn't distract from the story but I still find it annoying.

Overall it's a 8/10 novel for me. Not the best I have ever read but definitely something I can recommend to others. <<less

Overall it's a good read. There are lots of mythology (eastern and western culture) which is quite educational to me.

I think it's a solid 4 but I give 5 because MC is not overly OP but at the same time he's smart, plus sometimes plot armor, so it balanced out. Plus the side characters are quite developed and funny (i.e Li Xuan).

I'm very conflicted with this one.

I want to like it but it's very hard to do so. 20 chapters in and all I got is too much filler, the story progresses slowly because the author explains a lot of unnecessary things and repeats that.

I enjoy face slapping stories but this one went too far, the author seems to want to change the side characters view of the MC but it's done so constantly u start to wonder whether these side characters whom he face slaps live in their own world... more>> where news of how different the MC is to the rumors, doesn't get shared or gossiped about.

I looked forward to the whole "do not disturb me, I'm gaming ' setting and we did get that, it's just that the idea is only centered around Face slapping arrogant characters.

A 1000 and more chapters based on that would be terrible to read. I saw good reviews about it and tried to read but nope.

It would've been nice if the author decided to change it up a bit, especially in the first 100 chapters, these are opening chapters meant yo draw in readers. <<less

I'm rating it even though I've read this little, 'cause I'm evil.

Super God Gene was incredible, an amazing thing to read, that was until the 100% robotic AI writing words generator sh*t became the only thing I could read after the first few hundreds of chapters. Now, Edgy named cringe lord author doesn't even wait to turn on his super software to write for him, the robotic feeling that you get from just reading this is right from the beginning, neat!!

It's not that the MC is apathetic, he is a... more>> blank piece of paper, so lazily and carelessly written just as much as every single other thing around in the whole novel. There's nothing that has a description, not even hair color, eye color or what they are wearing. That is for any characters, including the MC. There is also no description on important things whatsoever, 'Crystal type#1, 2, 3, 4, 5'; done.

People in the novel only know to speak along with a smile, they bare their teeth and distance their lips before beginning to speak, and then make it even broader later on as more smiles come along more words, more and, more, more and more.

Holy f*ck, talk about regression of the MC for no longer cultivating on his own, how fitting of the Edgy named cringe lord author's writing skills and even imagination. Deplorable. <<less

MC has a brain and actually tests things out and prepares as much as he can for various situations.

Sometimes, he acts really dumb for the plot, but that's about it.

I love An Sheng as a character especially later on.

So, I just finished Super Gene (aka Super God Gene) before feeling unsatisfied at the ending and realising there was no sequel. The reason I mention SG is because the author who created that is also the one writing this novel.

After doing some research, I quickly learnt he had this novel going on and it was even over whopping 1k chapters! Needless to say, I was really hopeful.

To give you reasons why I was hopeful, let me explain what I really liked about SG.

If you like Emperor's Domination (I'll pray... more>> for you first of all, since anyone who likes that puts up with far much more pain than the average person), you will like Super Gene and can consider it a significantly more condensed version. The reason is simple. It has an MC who is overpowered and will kill indiscriminately if you push them far enough. They don't care about making new friends or girlfriends and the story has a more plot-centric focus whilst the MC's gradually grow enough of a personality where their charm becomes an indelible part of your daily reading.

If you like the typical 'Weak to Strong MC who falls in love with every 'most beautiful girl in the world/galaxy/universe/multiverse' then these kinds of stories simply aren't for you. If, however, you like a power fantasy that simply has the MC come in strong (or atleast get strong extraordinarily quick) then you'll like SG. It allows you to constantly enjoy that power element without having to get annoyed at how the MC gets magically weaker everytime they enter a new world/realm. The power stays consistent and it's amazing.

Characters are enough massive bonus. There's a lot of side characters who are introduced and who become core to the MC's faction. <<less

A simple premise novel that is quite enjoyable when you dont expect too much from it.

Some minor comedy moments (decent).

World is filled with dangerous zones full of monstes, MC has a cheat to "video game play" those zones so NO RISK for him (he can try risky things).

... more>> They have pets, but dont expect conversations with them (most of the time).

Overall above average read while you're waiting for some good novel to release chapters.

On a good note, most novels get worse above 400-500 chapters, this one is consistent for the most part. <<less

A good enough novel to read but is somewhat way too simple and thus not really interesting. Right from the start it's felt like a novel for younger generation. There's nothing really remarkable so far but still if you wish to have a casual read, then go ahead, I guess. I'd give it around 3.5 maybe.

Great concept which I love, but the novelty wore off around chapter 500+.

Zhou Wen rarely cares about anything outside of the game even if it could bring him benefits.
Spoiler

Around chapter 500, black cubes appear all over the world. Zhou Wen learns that any mythical pets using it would improve their strength, but he only uses it on one mythical pet despite having 5 mythical pets in total. One time, Ming Xiu who he tutored has a Life Providence known as 'Peerless Duo'. Anyone who cultivates with Ming Xiu will improve, but he declines. There's no cure for Zhou Wen's s*upidity. Despite wanting to become stronger quickly, he passes off many things that could help him.

[collapse]

He relies too much on the game.

Others face life-threatening situations just so they can get stronger while Zhou Wen stays at home and game all the time, but improve more than those who fight in real life.
