Well, well. You wanna read cultivation? Good, this is your best bet.

You are looking for a great novel? Eeeeeeh. You could do much much worse, but ultimately this isn't top tier.

The pros here are definitely in the cultivation system and the fairly intelligent MC. Critical side characters also generally avoid being completely ret*rded.

The cons? The more the story progresses the more it drifts into generic drivel, unfortunately. It never hits the low lows, but plot armour and lucky coincidences start stacking up. The romance is a dumpsterfire, even if better... more>> than many of its peers. The female lead acts extremely out of character at times only to make the "harem" not implode on the spot.

I'd go deeper into the details but alas I purged too much of its earlier chapters from my memory already. <<less

I like the story and how Su Chen plans, he knows he's not the strongest and his only goal is to survive until he is and you can't help but cheer for him. MINOR SPOILER AHEAD: The blind thing was interesting and when it was revealed that he wasn't blind is one of my favorite parts of the novel. (This isn't really a spoiler, you can't expect the entire novel to follow a blind protagonist... though that does sound interesting)

I like the characters though part of me wonders how... more>> they would treat him in the beginning of the novel.

8/10

I always think how humans started the way of cultivation in these cultivation novels.

They always get inhertiance of someone and level up and it will goes on. Even the cultivation method.

This is the novel where su chen who starts path for humans with no other mixed bloodline to reach apex of cultivation.

Well its Fun, Good ride.. Till now.......

Out of the novels that I have read this is definitely one of the most enjoyable ones that I have read for theses reasons.

1 excellent plot and world development

In the first chapter it takes place in a children's history lesson which allows for the explanation of several political and historical aspects of the novel in a natural manner that does not break the emergence of the novel while at the same time establishing the MC as being smart and a noble in a small clan. Shortly afterwards comes the MC... more>> tragedy which is arguable whether or not if this was a unique plot across cultivation novels. The author is great at weaving a seamless world that pays attention to minor details.

2 characters are fully flushed out

By this I mean that characters are not stagnant. A vast majority of the MC enemies fall in a moral gray area. In this way characters are far more complex, as like in the real world people are rarely either good or bad. While you do see the occasional standard wuxia villain that stands against the MC ; then quickly gets killed, however the most part the MC is facing entire organizations as suited since he basically trying to overturn a entire caste system. Essentially you could say that the main character has a noble cause, however definitely does a lot of things that would have human rights activist up in arms.

3 meaningful relationships/ (harem 2, 1/2 women currently)

In this novel side characters matter, they are not simply used as way to advance the plot. By this I mean that they still have wants and desires outside of the needs of the MC. It is this kind of writing that allows for the growth of side characters and further interactions with theses characters in the future to have purpose as they find reasons to continuously depart and meet again in the future. As of knowthe MC has t <<less

It is a hard novel to rate and it is hard to conclude if the author is smart or s*upid. On the one hand, there are some really interesting and smart battles and schemes (at least at the start) and the power system is rather original and entertaining. But, on the other hand, there a lot of plot holes, power levels are inconsistent (author changes them as the story develops), a lot of world-building elements changed later in the story which creates multiple plot holes and confusion. When you start... more>> to think that the author will make MC stronger and that romance would be developed he, suddenly, slows things down to a snail pace. For example - in the second volume the MC hasn't raised his cultivation level at all FOR WHOLE TEN YEARS. Out of 25 years of his whole life. At the beginning of the novel even one small realm in cultivation was meaningful, but after MC reached the mid of Qi Drawing author suddenly decided that small realms no longer raise actual power, but the only amount of energy which means nothing. So MC struggles to fight those who are much lower in cultivation just because they have powerful bloodlines. It is the exact opposite of what happens in other novels, lol. But it isn't the problem in itself (in fact it is rather interesting), the problem is that, somehow, the actual fighting power of everyone in the novel progresses to raise without any actual explanation. Then, closer to the end of the second volume, the author completely goes over himself and changes things he already established. Another thing is - after some point in the novel MC become literally a millionaire. He can become much stronger by using that money on Origin Tools or cultivation resources, but he never did it. He only ever used the money on his researches and almost never to become stronger. <<less

Rating: 8.5-9/10

The characters are somewhat more three-dimensional than in other novels. The MC himself is a fusion between the apathetic mad sadistic scientist and the righteous hero who fights for his friends and the higher good of the world while caressing his 2 lovers. (It is better for you to expect a harem, but the 2 girls know but don't interact with each other and MC treats them both as his only one).

The plotting is half a step better than the "plotting" in other novels and each arc brings... more>> new diversity to the story.

The drawback for me is the ethereal luck halo of the MC. It is not as overt as in other novels (even his startup cheat is not instantly op) but all people the MC interacts with are VERY lenient to conform to his will (ie blackmail, peace treaties and cooperation, absolute loyalty demand etc.).

The beggining was a 9 for me and now more like 8.5. One last thing that bugs me: The MC takes a lot of risks with little assurance and enters conflicts of interests with others without having much to gain in the first place although he proclaims all he wants to do is solitary peaceful research. Nevertheless, he always comes a winner out of this situations. Almost like he knows he is the MC and can't dies for at least a few more hundred chapters. <<less

I don't like writing a review if I didn't read the entire novel because a lot of them start good and became tr*sh. I'm making an exception because I almost got discouraged to read it thanks to certain reviews. I would have missed one of the best LN out there.

The critics about the novel are pure tr*sh.

I read the author likes to put out information when it suits him. It's just wrong. The MC comes from a third class city lost at the border of the Kingdom. Of course he... more>> doesn't know a lot of things that are 'common knowledge' in the Capital.

The MC isn't cruel enough and he offends people right and left. What a laugh!
Spoiler

The world is dominated by Nobility Clans who think commoners without a bloodline are barely human. The MC is someone without a bloodline. You can't expect the MC to bow his head to them right? They dominate everything so if he wants a place in this world he has to clash against them. But he can't go all out and have them as mortal ennemies while he isn't strong enough. The world has still some sort of rules so the MC uses them to be safe. If he pushes too far his ennemies will disregard rules and just kill him. But don't worry when he has to be ruthless he can be.

[collapse]

I find the novel very well constructed. Each book covers a part of his life and they are each very interesting so far. The cultivation isn't clear at first but it's normal. The MC doesn't know sh*t at the beginning and we learn at the same time as him. The more I learn about Cultivation the more logic I find things. It doesn't look like other Cultivation Novels and that's good.

And I love the MC. He is obsessed by knowledge. It's funny to see him excited by discovering books during his adventures while his friends look at him and think 'why are you excited by those useless books and don' t care about that incredible herb worth millions'. <<less

I'll say this: DTPB is a great series.

It is similar and follows the formula of every other xianxia/xuanhuan of an MC starting with a debilitating condition, being looking down by everyone, then obtaining an op hack and begins climbing to the top.

The one negative I have to say is that: It's a generic series that doesn't really stand out among all the other similar type of novels.

... more>> The positive: The series is really well written and does better than most other xianxia/xuanhuan

-The MC is not ridiculously broken. He works hard and uses his brains instead of relying on plot armor.

I started reading this novel right after dropping "Library of Heaven's Path" because the MC was too broken and the plot was getting repetitive. This novel is a breath of fresh air if you enjoy a well written series with the MC actually struggling and not OP asf right out the gate. <<less

A good novel with flowing logic and interesting schemes, the characters have depth especially the main ones.

Don't worry as the MC doesn't stay blind for very long and quickly moves on, whilst there are several time skips they help keep the novel fast paced so that we can move on, the character introductions are also smooth along with their developments. I personally enjoy the author's subtle jokes in idioms about blind people being used on the MC and how he mocks people.

This an enjoyable novel with pretty developed side characters. Like other novels their are a bit of cliches, but the novel is still very unique. This is one of the rare occasions where in a xuanhuan there is an actual intelligent, novel instead of more typical xuanhuans where the author calls their protagonist smart only for him to display the self-control of a toddler. The only issue I have with this novel is the bloodlines, since this novel has one of the more detailed bloodline systems with an actual reason... more>> why humans had them. All of which is wasted because the protagonist wants to create a path for humans outside of bloodlines, which is pretty new, but annoying. There are characters with fascinating crane and blood cloning abilities, while the protagonist is stuck with his generic muck. Ovreall, the novel is an interesting read. <<less

To start off with and keep it spoiler free. Yes There are some major plot holes that will become very obvious the secound it pops up.

But other wise this is one of the best cultivation novels I have ever read. This goes above and beyond compared to most other waxia novels

Plot-6.5/10: with the gaping plot hole I instantly lower it my score by 2 points due to obvious reasons. I lower it by another point because honesty it has a pretty genric waxia plot. Charachter gets apreesed hates it. Becomes... more>> determined to get stronger, really nothing new. But what makes this 1.5 points above average is the sub plots. All of them so far have been meaning full in some way. Even tho it some can be pointed out to mostly be for word count. But unlike most it actualy servers purpose by helping CHARACHTER DEVLOPMENT and WORLD BULDING!!! By god. Those are two of the rarest things I ever get to say in a posative way. On most genre but this one in particular. This makes nothing seem like filler for the most part and keeps things interesting.

Charachter 8/10: for the most part they are all good. While you have your ones that are just there to be in the MCs way, and later die. You also have your genric types of charachter templates. But for the most part author does a good job of makeing them all seem more... fleshed out? He makes them all have reason to be there and a logical one to even if s*upid some times. This for the most part gives them purpose and help them seem like it matters. The big example would be
Spoiler

because the MC is blind for the first 20 chapters, his family see him as crippled. In the text it is stated that he was loved by his family when he was not blind. And even when he was blind it said that they still loved and took care of him for the first 3 months. The problems started when he began training. The MC insisted on not giving up while the family was pretty much saying " hey your crippled, its ok to cultivate but do it slowly so we can give the resources to some who can use them." The MC does not listen and continues to use those resources. This pisses people off, but bcause of rules that only gives resources from high cultivation and not skill. The jealous uncle says as a long term plan, add combat to see who is the best. While that was happening things were going on with the MCs father causing the MC to lose trust and begains to feel unloved when he has 2 brothers and a sister. (the the 1 brother and the sister are litteraly forgotten about and are not talked about up to date. Kind of disappointing.) So MC crys wolf saying he is gaining his eye sight back as a last ditch effort to keep the love he had and stalls for a year and a half before he is found out. This infuriates everybody because he he lied to them and caused there kids to loes valuable time. Things happen after that but this is already to long.

[collapse]

Those are the type of reasons people due the things things they due in that story.

Translation. 10/10: I can't say how it is from original text, but I can say the gramners is very good and be it because of editing or just the text eas naturaly that way. This translates very well to a westren audience. It does not have a bunch of Chinese saying, it does not have a bunch of pointless text there just to increase word count. So just over all a very easy read compared to others.

Like all non domestic things. Some of the concepts will be native and saying will be confusing. But those are to be expected and I take nothing away because of it. And I have read some really bad ones before were it was all but unreadable so this is nothing.

WORLD BUILDING!!! ?/?: this category is usely setting but in this case I put it as world building unstead. First off let me state that yes I know most waxia have world building, its hard not have it in a over 2000 chapter novel. So let me say this, I don't count anything past chapter 200 as world building in most cased, There are exemptions.

world building is not a plot device ment to further the story when convenient.

And world building is not just saying random names that mean nothing to the reader. About how some great wang dynasty fell there, 1000 kilometers aways there is the demon beast forest and across from that is the dragon divine sword sect. That is protecting the small che empire. That is not world building that is what an map is for.

I would say that takes away 92-97% of what passes as world building in most waxia.

So that leaves me at an inpass. This is only chapter 72. Within 50 chapters all the world building can be forgotten, or within 300 chapters he could be on a diffrent planet or plan of existence that makes all the world building useless. This is what happens to 98% of them that have good world building.

So I don't know about world building I am just happy it is there right now and is pretty good.

So over all pretty darn good. Worth the read. And remember this is all my opinion. Read the book and form your own.

average scores I would give most waxia novels and why.

Spoiler

Plot 4.5/10 most plots are genric with sub standard repeating plot threads that are just barely good enough to keep you reading.

Setting 3-8/10 usually one of the better parts. Alot of the time you will get you ancient version of an oversized China with mosters and demon beasts. Other times you might find a really good unique setting with good mecanics in theory. Usually roll of the dice for thoes or not.

Translation NOTHING TO DUE WITH QUALITY. 2.5/10

I am not judging Quality. That can vary massively, so what I am judgeing is how well it translates. So even if there is zero grammatical mistakes it can still get a bad score.

Wuxia translations usually suck. They just don't translate well. If you are new to the genre and you start off with a hard one. That has a lot of the Chinese sayings and just foreign concepts one after the other, and pray that you don't end up with two people from the same clan.

Nothing worse than reading 200 chapters not knowing who the MC is because of them having praticly the same name that looks completly diffrent in Chinese and completey the same in English. Like cheng yie and cheng yu and then in the next chapter you see 8 more people the the cheng name. and you just get confused and don't know what is happening. It can ruin the genra for you. And has ruined intire books for me. And saddly a lot of them I find are just like that.

Great plot - I'm almost in volume 5 and still find the story interesting. I won't say more.

Great Schemes - the MC is a master at this. The way he played his enemies with complicated schemes give me quite a good little surprise. As a reader I can always feel that the MC is always in control and it makes me alleviate my frustrations even at difficult times the MC is in.

Great Experiments - This one is the best thing this novel can offer. The experiments follows a convincing theories... more>> and was actually explained in detailed. Delicious!!

Action is bad - the author doesn't do well at making action scenarios most of the time the action the characters is doing doesn't makes sense and contradict each actions they performed. I skip most unnecessary actions.

Average Characters - There are good and badly written characters. A few supporting characters are written well but when it comes to antagonists author is very bad at making a good villain. Although sometimes there are some average villains that even though they're enemies of the MC they can be reasonable too but most of the time villains is very 1-dimensional that even if they die they still pissed you off that they got away easily.

Bad Romance - Fine at the beginning but author butchered it. At first author did pull the cliche 'long separations' plot for a few years but after they meet again their flirting and conversation feels so stiff and fake. Long separations should be used to cultivate their feelings for each other so when they met again the emotions would burst and developed their feelings even deeper but in this novel it's the opposite as it felt like they're just acting like a couple I can't feel any emotion from them. And the author doesn't seem to be satisfied, author separated the two of them again then after 11 years they met again and still the romance didn't improve at all and once again the author decided to separate them again for the third time, THIRD f*ckING TIME. After they married they separated again f*cking s*upid author just butchering the whole thing so it'd be best not to care about romance anymore. This is pure garbage.

-

As for the most part the author also overdid the world building that it became bad and confusing. Too much info dumps and each setting the author have shit-ton of history to tell whether it is mountains, rivers, villages etc. For example the Author will list up what happened in this certain mountain, what village built in it and when that whatever village was destroyed and what the next village that was built then more and more info sh*t like who fought here and what year, what happened next and will also say who owned it 16000 years ago and then will say the name of the next owner 12000 years ago then next owner 10000 years ago. But this is just bunch of unnecessary info dumps from the author as it won't help in the development in the story. Author likes to add story to every little things it's just annoying will be forgotten and will never be mentioned in the future.

Aside from that the styles of names of everything in this novel is incredibly confusing.

For example:
Cloud Leopard - A person's name.
Red Eagle - A place's name.
Lightning Bear - A skill.
Lightning Wolf - A monster.
Cloud Piercing - An item.
Light Shaking - A cultivation level.

If you look at this, each names almost the same that if I didn't put the description of what they are you won't know anything. When sometimes a certain name were mentioned in later chapters it will give you a hard time remembering because you can't just categorized them whether the name mentioned is a place, item, a medicine, a person etc.

Really makes me mad. <<less

The beginning was good, the blindness doesn't last but it's entertaining. The second volume has his personality suddenly change from being reasonable to selfless and righteous without a good reason, which was rather annoying. He also turns into an absolute idiot about women, to the point that I can't bring myself to read more. there's a woman that tries to kill him repeatedly, and he ends up plotting and causing one of her important family members to die along with her servants and what not after he uses her as a hostage. He then ends up letting her wander around his home, and even gives her his secrets before taking her on walks in public, causing her to fall for him (again, after he basically made her watch him kill someone important to her). The worst part is that he ends up wiping her memory and pretending that they hadn't been in contact... AFTER PUBLICLY WALKING AROUND TOGETHER FOR A MONTH. And this guy is supposed to be smart?

All I can say is... The ending is tr*sh. It ends abruptly without any proper resolution and is set up for a sequel, which as of right now doesn't exist.

The last 15 chapters were extremely rushed and the last chapter is so incoherent and nonsensical that it even ruins the whole novel for me. What was a meh read, is now officially one of the worst CN novels I have ever read.

Spoiler

In the last chapter all we get is a monologue of someone, who isn't the MC, but is some apparent awesome figure that is the sole reason why the novel can exist in the first place. The MC is talked about In third-person, and we're essentially told the MC pulls a d*ck move abandoning everyone to go to a higher plane. To top it off, the big bad bosses everyone fought and died to kill aren't actually dead, they're still alive and are inside the guy giving a monologue plotting their revenge.

In my opinion, the author went out of his way to spit on everyone that pushed through his novel to get to the end. Absolutely horrible and even if there is a sequel, I cannot in good faith recommend it nor will I read it. <<less

Su Chen is a prominent youth of a mid-tier clan and is on the fast track to becoming an arrogant young master, when all of a sudden a strange old beggar blinds him. Now humbled by the ordeal, Su Chen now has to struggle to cultivate and emancipate himself from his annoying clan. What follows is an epic tale within a world that revolves around the aristocratic power of Ancient Beast Bloodlines and Su Chen embarking on his grand ambition to upend the status quo.

I've always enjoyed these civilization uplifting... more>> stories, especially one with an intelligent, scheming MC that would do anything to achieve a noble goal. Be it intellectual theft, human experimentation, destabilizing society or genocide. His amoral obsession over searching for ways to advance humanity, no matter the source, is what defines his character. Plus there are a few multilayered side characters that aren't simple throwaways, although some may dislike that the story becomes somewhat of a harem. And that unfortunately the author begins to get lazy, with physical conflicts just springing up from some random s*upid interaction and a particular cheat item that allows the MC to circumvent so many issues, for an affordable price.

But when all is said and done, this Xuanhuan novel tells a fairly unique story that ends up feeling like the prelude to a Xianxia cultivation adventure. <<less

Very goooooooood. The plot is a whole lot different than most chinese novels and the characters were also pretty diverse and interesting. Has potential for a sequel. Would highly reccomend.

In this novel, you see the ugliness of men, the ugliness of women, and the ugliness of the author.

What do I mean by the ugliness of the author ? Check this extract :

Spoiler

"In plain terms, she was still a woman.

Perhaps she had her own smarts, but she lacked any wisdom and didn't understand how to endure. She relied heavily on good luck and fortune."

[collapse]

There's a lot of little misogynist remark like this throughout the novel.

I mean, a lot of chinese webnovels are misogynist but it's a whole other level for this one.

Spoiler

One of the most obvious proof of that is the character Night Demon. At the beginning, you don't know if she is a man or a woman and the author describes her as a dark and seemingly cruel assassin but as soon as he decides to make her a she, she becomes an idiot, clueless, seductive lover of the MC

[collapse]

About the MC, for someone who is supposed to be a genius, I find him sometimes quite dumb. And he is supposed to look cool, but sometimes he can look unsufferable.

Most of the time, his troubles are only due to him.

Spoiler

The most s*upid thing I found was that he stole a terrorist organisation, met problems, decide to resolve it by creating bigger problems, when that didn't work, decide to create even bigger problems, and in the end, losing and being forced to create bigger problems. When he tried to destroy a whole city, causing hundred of thousands of death and the king of the country decided to kill his concubine as a punishment, he had the gal to find that it was crossing the line.

[collapse]

The romance is the type I hate the most, cheesy, childish, macho, predictable.

I find quite clumsy the way the author try to justify the reasons behind the acts of the characters. Most of the time, if it needs to be justified, then it means that it's not logical.

The main problem with this story in my opinion is that the MC is evil but believe that everything he does is justified for the greater good, for humanity and so that he's not evil. On the contrary, the way I see it, he sees himself as a hero. I like evil characters but I don't like delusional ones. This guy is a terrorist and it would be better if he could assume it and if his opponents could assume it as well and would not take him as someone providencial for the human race, enemy because of his race more than because of his acts, because he developed a system to make humans stronger more than because he killed hundred of thousands of people because they are not from his race, and were always enemies of his race.

Another thing that I can't explain is despite the fact that the protagonist has seen much of the ugliness of men, he seems convinced that human are better that other races. He often says that he doesn't feel any remorse about doing cruel things to other races, because these races do cruel things to humans, but he seems to forget that surely, humans are as cruel as the other races.

When others point out some blatant failings, he displays a fanaticism quite exhuberant about the human and somehow, the author make it seems like he is in the right.

Quite surprisingly, I enjoyed the last part of the novel. It's really similar to WOTMW, although it's a worse version. Still, it's enjoyable. <<less

Hey look idk if I could recommend this but maybe someone will find this useful.

Sadly this starts to lose it's spark it had at the beginning almost as if this was a bright firework.

The romance is pretty good for its genre. The main character is not spineless as u would perceive. Also this is a slight with yk the harem bs. Eg girls beating up MC and being unreasonable. I wouldn't want to spoil too much so ima say the harem is very small. 5/10 not the worst not the... more>> best. Had some nice moments.

Plot 6/10 you get a nice idea where it's heading but a few holes here and there.

World building 4/10 could be better we never really get a idea how big the world is and how big each nation is I feel like the threats are almost being surrounded by the other races. Also maybe I skimmed too much.

Characters were nice I'm too lazy to type anymore 6/10

Read this? Sure but the ending is disappointing and this gets very wordy. MC changes too much and he goes from MC to author self insert to lemme try and fix this to idek <<less

Loved it.

Author really did put in a lot of thought, effort and love into the novel. It was amazing from the beginning.... there were few chapters in between where it felt a bit boring but they were not fillers. Those chapters were equally important to set up the story to continue further.

Enjoyed every moment of it.

... more>> One of the best cultivation novels out there.

Also don't drop this novel early, give it some time. Most of the negative reviews that I have seen are people who dropped it within/around 100 chapters. Kinda same as overgeared. <<less

One of the best novels I highly recommend you guys should read its filled with schemes, army building, op MC. And whats more MC is the one who invents the cultivation system kinda different than other cn novels Of course its has its own downside like one arc where one female made MC plans go downhill it made me cringed so much still its one hell of a novel.
