Jiang Zhen crossed into ancient times and became the old bachelor eldest Jiang who was neglected by his whole family in Hexi Village.

He was born into a good family, but the eldest Jiang was busy all year and couldn’t even eat a full meal. His two younger brothers could marry a wife, but he was starved to death… Jiang Zhen felt it was unbearable.

You don’t want to feed me? OK, I will kill the chicken myself.

You don’t even give me a glimpse of food? It doesn’t matter, the door of the granary will be opened as soon as I kick it.

You want to tell me that I am unfilial? Ok, I will immediately take the knife to the village and slash people, and let the yamen officer catch all of us.

Jiang Zhen became a local tyrant in the village. He also saw the “ugly” ger who could not get married in the village.

Future father-in-law: “Jiang Zhen is always wandering around our house. Is he planning to rob our house?”

The future mother-in-law: “What to do? Jinge can’t beat him!”

Zhao Jinge’s face was hot… Dad, the wild rabbit that I brought back today is what he gave…

A lot of wtf moments. Most prominent: First, the violent MC who is seen as normal. Second, the annihilation of a potential character (Shen Anxin). Third, the development in the end where the MC became a fugitive and then ended up running a country. Wtf. I think the author is a bit skewed (has a violent tendency, ignorant or indifferent about r*pe, xenophobia, and ethnocentric).

This is my favorite novel right now. The MC is so shameless in chasing after the man he likes it is cute. I like that he has decided to pick up the role of crazy person in order to get retribution rather than suddenly coming out as some great genius. The family deserves what they get for abusing a child and for ignoring him being abused.

Okay so I wrote a long ass review about this novel but my dumb@ss suddenly cl**ked back and now it's all gone, so I'm writing this again

I LOVED the first part of this novel - The wife-chasing, faceslapping, rags to riches kind of vibe.

But the second part...? Not so much.

The main couple are adorable, I adore their interaction so much and they became a powercouple as they should, but one thing I don't like about their dynamic is that...

Spoiler

Zhao Jinge was most definitely groomed by Jiang Zhen. It saddens me to think that even in the EXTRAS, JInge still believes he's ugly. He believes JZ only likes his manly body and feel sad when he saw his stomach all flabby (mind you he just gave birth).

There's one part in the extra where JZ got h*rny when he saw Jinge wearing a modern-ish military uniform. It reminded JZ of his comrades from his previous life and that says A LOT.

Jiang Zhen even used to make Jinge feel unsecured in their relationship and say some stories to make him feel nervous.

These scenes, although few, really stuck with me. It itches in the back of my mind whenever I see the main couple being lovey dovey.

[collapse]

Besides that towards the latter half of the novel, the author just wrote one badwriting after the other and it piled up like horsesh*t

First is Shen Anxin

Spoiler

What a waste of character. Author even dared to use r*pe as a plot device. Disgusting. This is the only time I strongly felt negative emotion for this novel. The author's explanation as well! What foreshadowing? It's just bad writing.

I really grieve for this character since it was the first time we got introduced to a powerful ger and then BAM gangr*ped. Automatically turning into a cannon fodder for the story.

In my opinion, if you've reached this point or the story, just drop it. The arcs that follows is really just nonsensical and bad. To the point that it feels like the author posted their drafts.

If the story ended before this arc, I would've given this a 4-5 star.

[collapse]

And then lets get to the problematic parts. I'm surprised not a lot of people wrote about this in their reviews.

Spoiler

The Eastern/Japanese ronins - is the author xenophobic hahaha what is this behavior? It wasnt necessary to note that Jiang Zhen doesn't like eastern people, that information contributed nothing, the author's xenophobia is just showing.

Towards the latter part of the story, it just proves my point. The blatant disregard for the Japanese/Oriental Ronins' lives during battles is really just frustrating

It was mention so many unnecessary times that Jiang Zhen hates the ronins, what was the purpose? To the point that I kinda thought it was the author's hidden propaganda or something lol

[collapse]

And lastly is the colonization

Spoiler

It's good and all to want to protect your loved ones but for real... take over a country and force your culture and language on them? Not cool man...

This partnered with the earlier xenophobia really didn't sit well with me.

And the fact that all that world building gone to waste, why bother introducing the powerful empress dowager who is a ger or why bother give progress to other counties right?

The plot just ate itself up, how disappointing.

[collapse]

So overall I thoroughly enjoyed the first half, so I give that a 4.5 stars. The second half I give 1.5 stars. To meet in the middle, I'll give a 3 star for this one. <<less

I have finished reading this novel and let me tell you that this novel is one of my favorite novels it has almost 180 chapters but it is totally worth reading.
Once I started reading the novel I couldn't stop, I love how Jiang Zhen keeps moving forward and forward it doesn't have a lot of drama like others but his plot goes along with the story the more the protagonist advances the more challenging it gets but what I liked the most is how she loves her husband who... more>> is very cute and her husband equally loves him I love their interactions and the best thing is that they are together from almost the first chapters and there are never misunderstandings between them or lack of communication.

SPOILER

Spoiler

Later on Jiang Zhen's company keeps moving forward and forward, he opens a school for boys and girls, he creates a dock on the island of the salt pan or salt which becomes a very popular place, he becomes a sea trader and goes to other continent bringing new things like mirrors ect, Then he was attacked and fled to a country to the east where the pirates came from, as the country was short of weapons and food, Jiang Zhen took advantage of this and sold them weapons and food while he took away their land little by little, then when they realized it was too big and Jiang Zhen took control of the country and called it China, The country becomes a constitutional monarchy where the emperor is but he is not the absolute power, Jiang Zhen becomes the prime minister and Zhao Jinge becomes the emperor, China becomes the most developed country creating new things and taking it to the industrial revolution and creating the steam train as a new invention, he dies at the age of 80 something, he succeeded in having three children a daughter a son and a ger who will become the emperor in the future.

The country hundreds of years ahead will be the most developed country in the world and will be one of the great powers.

This story is really good. I can't stopped reading it. Even its never ending repeat same situation where ppl bullied Jiang Zhen, he beats them, hes getting rich and rich, I really like how confident he is. Always stick to his principle. Treat ppl with respect and ignore ppl with no respect, only beat ppl who disturb them. Their love was so sweet and fluffy. Hope Jingye will more confident on himself and accept his worth.

I really like this one. Its a transmigration story with the MC being the gong instead of the shou as we are used to seeing. Can I say how much I love the faceslapping???!!! I mean face slapping in the literal sense! The MC is savage! He has no qualms with beating people who try to abuse him. Filial piety? You abusive mother and slag father want that from me? Dream on!! I got so tired of these MC's that put up with abuse for the sake of reputation and... more>> the working up to the faceslapping of the slag relatives takes up half the story. The MC has a clear distinction between love and hate and doesn't tolerate what he doesn't have to. The ML (shou) is adorable? He's simple, kind and made his peace with being "ugly" and never throws a pity party at his situation! It makes me doubly happy when the MC spoils him. Kudos 5 stars from me. <<less

I made an account JUST to write this review. so please read it before reading the story.

At first it was fun and easy going story. I did find some parts mildly annoying like how the MC only like the ML because of his looks, and how deeper feeling weren't elaborated on. But I thought the author would get to it later. The author didn't. Their marriage feels like an arranged marriage were the couple just happens to get along well and likes s*x with each other.

The MC gets rich way... more>> too quickly and way too easily. Whenever he encounters a bad situation he is able to overcome it with no problems.

Around chapter 100 I was like, ok this story is fine, it should be ending anytime soon. Much to my disappointment it had 80 more chapters left.

Now for the reasons why it is NOT worth your time:
Spoiler

In this world there are 3 genders and the ML's gender have moles above their eyebrows. The brightness of these moles can tell you how "fertile" the person is. Firstly, very weird to think about, don't you thinks so? But what I felt was weird is that the ML had a very dull mole (meaning he wasn't fertile at all) but yet had 3 children with the MC?? Like did the author forget the rules of their world or what?

Next is the fact that the ML is what every edgy guy on TikTok wants to be. He is rude to everyone he doesn't like (not good human behavior), yet nothing bad ever happens to him and he is worshipped by everyone around him (in the words of the author). The ML and his family think he is right 100% of the time and do everything he tells them because he is the man of the house. The ignored him being lowkey misogynistic at first, but it just got worse over time.

Now the reason why I absolutely couldn't continue reading it and made this account, Shen Anxin. He is the same 3rd gender as the MC (the reason of their being a third gender in the story where no other fantast aspect is present is probably because the author really wanted to perpetuate gender stereotypes in the main relationship or wanted that the ML could give birth I guess). The gender is treated only somewhat better than women and Shen Anxin inherited his family business and is the only non-male person running a business in this story. I really liked him because he was kina girl boss.

But then he got a crush on our MC and he starting behaving inconsistently with the personality the author had set up for him. I HOPED that he would realize that he was worth more than a married guy, but no. He confessed to the ML and the ML was super rude to him for no reason. And then out of nowhere one of his rivals had him g*ng r*ped?????? WTF.

And then I came back to check the reviews to see if he would recover from this horrible thing happening to him. No he doesn't and becomes a minor villain to give the ML another easily solvable hurdle. Tell me the author is misogynistic without telling me the author is misogynistic, oh, you don't have to because the author couldn't manage to write a book without making it incredibly obvious.

bookmunchies, honmeikyuu, Blueraven, and many other negative reviews also mention other things like xenophobia. So go read those as well, because I certainly won't be reading this anymore to get to those parts.

Wait I just skipped to one of the extra chapter and the MC became the Prime Minister with the ML as the Emperor.... Their eldest daughter controls a territory in Australia... Am I insane, or this story which has 0 court politics up chapter 116 ending with the main characters ruling China (and maybe even more land) insane?

To end this review, as said by Onibi, this books made me feel physically unwell, and while the translators did an ok job, I don't understand why they thought it was worth their time. <<less

honmeikyuu, Blueraven, and bookmunchies said it all in their revies. This story had a decent start and kept me mildly amused until chapter 116 and then it starts going downhill. In my opinion, don't read past 115. My last straw was the Shen Anxin plot. It was unnecessary and left a bad taste, I'm glad I dropped it there. Going by other reviews, I would have hated the xenophobic ending.

Small rant

Spoiler

Also all Shen Anxin asked him if he had meet him first could it have been him. I'm not saying the MC needed to be kind to him, but simply saying "but I didn't meet you first" or "Im very much in love" and ended there could have been a better response.

Also who is to say if he would have liked him, if he meet him first, I mean he liked ML just based on looks, then because he was shy and obedient. There wasn't some deep feelings, it was literally just based on looks to begin with. He doesn't even take the time to really understand ML, felt like a shallow relationship.

Also Shen Anxin's small tricks against the ML didn't even hurt the ML. Did he deserves to be shot down and sent back to the capital? Absolutely. Did he deserve to be gang r*ped?! Heck no!

What is wrong with this author. Such a good character could have been so much more, even if the author wanted him to be a villain, it could have been done more eloquently.

Started great!

Mid-way became repetitive.

Family goes: Our MC is great! We're rich!

Mob: we don't believe it!

MC showed up with $ after 2-3 chapters.

Mob *SHOCKED PIKACHU!!!*

Or

Enemies makes trouble. MC straightforwardly drag his gang over and beat them up. Enemies cries.

Too many frequent time skips.

The end is just..... WTF happen? MC was doing business and building his wealth, and then BAM!!

Spoiler

He took over another country, forced change the entire country cultures, and became a ruler?? I would rather he gets acknowledged for his business sense and becomes an important government/imperial merchant. Going from "im making sht ton of money" to "abandon the country, I'll just establish my own since the old one dont like me."

[collapse]

I would just recommend reading the first half. Maybe stop once the 2nd time skip hhappens. It's a better ending right there. <<less

Hard to rate. Parts are exceptionally great while some parts are kind of soulless as if the writer didn't know how to continue.

The story is nothing new but with some twists. MC is an ex army guy that got shot while saving someone and transmigrated to into a body in another world. He became the eldest son of a farmers family that was not only unloved but basically hated by his family and kept like a s*ave. While the original body owner would live this life, MC so would... more>> not. When he was weak, his neighbors ger (think omega) did save him and he is totally MCs for of guy. So MC is starting out with nothing but working hard for a better life.

ML has a loving family but unfortunately they are dirt poor. So although he is a ger he has to do farm work and does not look like the other pampered ger and is not married. Then his neighbor changed his personality greatly and started to chase him. Together they work hard and he enters a life beyond his imagination.

So I especially like the first half of this book. It is mainly a slice of life where MC starts from having nothing to making small money to becoming rich. I like that it is not too easy. MC put in a lot of sweat and hard work. They started with farming, making small business, and opening more and more business opportunities for themselves and the people around.

I like the daily life of them and how ML slowly grows under MCs care.

There is a lot of satisfying faceslapping going on, especially when the evil family gets its payback. While sometimes frustrating, MC is dealing properly with them.

The parts that somewhat annoyed me came in the second part of the novel. It changes from slice of life to an almost narration and progresses sometimes in the speed of light. Some of the decisions become somewhat strange.

To be fair, I was still entertained too the end and the extras were really nice, so this novel deserves 4 stars. The translation is also great.

I will most likely read this novel again and recommend it. <<less

okay so this was honestly, up to a point, fairly lighthearted and easy transmigration story. things are laid out pretty clearly and its obviously not meant to be an indepth read

but the thing is that it gets fairly... repetitive and its fairly obvious to me that the author is trying to drag the novel out but doesn't know where to take it, so they're just throwing sh*t at the wall

before I get into the things I do have an actual issue with, lets start off with the villains, the jiangs... more>> who are the family of the MC.

Spoiler

honestly I think the handling of it was fine, and people only seem to consider him hitting the mum to be an issue which is a... take to be sure. probably the only thing that I disliked was the treatment of the little sister (I'll get into that)

the MC is primarily reactive, he doesn't do very much on his own initiative in regards to the jiangs, they mostly start sh*t which is where one of the key issues come into play, that being that the jiangs dont know when to give up

every so often it would mention them and I'd already be rolling my eyes because they were going to do something useless to the MC and get their sh*t rocked. I far preferred the bits when they would meet with failing purely because of their own poor decisions

[collapse]

so sister

Spoiler

she is literally punished for her families bad decisions, and despite being literally the only person in the household who treated the original bodies owner with any kindness, its basically written off for not 'being enough'

she literally becomes a s*ave to avoid being forced to become a concubine to a man who almost killed his wife, all because her family wants to pay off the debts of the third brother (changxian?)

she is 15-16 at this time, and the MC literally describes her as a child because that is what she is, yet he and the author both seem to punish her for not being able to give him more??

[collapse]

so the sister is the first issue, the second issue is the pretty... obvious xenophobia.

Spoiler

there is a part with the pirates, theres some throwaway line about them being refugees, which gets tossed away soon enough in favour of basically calling them morons for going under the banner of one person for survival and just generally glosses over the whole thing and its, from where I dropped this, never mentioned again... like at all

during this section theres this absolutely Bizarre bit where the MC introduces stitching up wounds to the masses. its considered barbaric and then its revolutionary when its like the oldest medical practice? like cleanliness is fairly new and dependent on region, but stitching up wounds is ancient and clearly a very obvious one since so many cultures have individually realised it. also I just want for authors to stop making MC's revolutionary for no reason. like this literally pulled me so hard out of the story that any possibility I had of getting past the next bit was impossible, it shattered all enjoyment

[collapse]

probably the breaking point, as it was for many people, was shen anxin. now I dont know what happened but the author does a really rapid about face when it comes to this character.

Spoiler

so the character we are introduced to is fairly naïve but generally kind and honest. a pretty obvious foil to the ML with them both removing the mole. he had a crush on the MC but like apparently its slim pickings in those times.

the crush plot cuts off because he thinks the MC has concubines and he disappears for a bit, when he comes back to the story after a year its as this bootlicking suck up. okay that's fine, do what you gotta do

but then after he learns that the MC doesnt have concubines, the crush magically returns, as if the MC doesnt still have a wife, and the character just does a rapid fall from decent character to easy faceslapping material.

he is wildly jealous and somehow convinced that he is better than the ML, despite the fact that during his introduction, he pretty quickly realised this and knew that he wouldnt have been able to marry MC anyway.

[collapse]

tw r*pe

Spoiler

a business enemy, who's son had been harassing and attempted to have him assaulted during the introduction arc, takes the opportunity to have shen anxin gang r*ped. it is not described, but it is done in the most uncaring and hamfisted way. when he goes to the MC for help, the MC completely ignored him and brushes him off. which the writing labels is fair and like... no? this just makes the MC look bizzarely unempathetic towards someone who actually hadnt done much of anything to him

[collapse]

Spoiler

all of it completely demolishing and ignoring the characterisation that had been built originally. and what keyed me into this, was the line that literally said that "he had gotten everything he ever wanted"

.... what

this character was described as having lost his father, had to dig out his mole in order to live as a man, is gay but has to marry a woman because he did this, has been routinely harassed by someone who wants to take over his fathers legacy and is carrying the burden of his whole family on his back.

what about this screams "gets everything he wanted"? the son that wanted him assaulted was treated with more kindness, hell I bet the father that had him assaulted will be basically let off the hook

[collapse]

honestly I can't, in good faith recommend this novel. it's fairly easy reading, but it attempts to drop in so much and then does nothing with it, like if you wanted to write a light hearted slice of life, you can DO THAT

like aside from the main issues I pointed out, it gets to a point where the characters grow flat and exaggerated. the ML's insecurity becomes his key personality trait, the MC suddenly becomes incredibly possessive and unkind without warning, especially towards shen anxin (yes im bitter)

like I have read books with similar topics, but the way this one handled it made me feel physically unwell, and all I can say is find something else. translators you did a great job but this novel isnt worth your effort <<less

I really want to like this story. I really, really do. In fact I love the beginning parts where he was dirt poor and hoarded chicken eggs as though they're gold.

I'm fine with a 'simple brute' protagonist with a heart but past chapter 150 it was becoming something like a side character bashing fest. If you're on his side, you're gold. If you're against him, goodbye fool.

The Jiang Family were definitely Not Nice but the way he pushes people down dark roads by cutting off opportunities for improvement is cruel... more>> and pointless.

If MC hadn't been the protagonist, he would have been an evil character.

In short, read it. However, once you get to the point where the MC starts to turn into the local tyrant, well, feel free to get off the train. <<less

The start is good.

It was interesting to see some real struggles (well there is still OPness let's be truth).

But a cannon character was r*ped for no real reasons, it's not linked to a real plot, just one on the side and he'll go crazy. It's something we can understand happening and then the comments of the readers... I'm sorry but no. At least if there was a reason for the r*pe or a need for the story I think it could be a plot worth it. But a r*pe for... more>> a r*pe, it's too easy for the author and the comments of the readers were distusting. I tried to read a little more but I just can't get into the story like before.

I MTLed this story. This is a unique transmigrated story. The MC has many ideas and I think the story was not boring or dragging. The MC is not OP, he's just clever and intelligent. And he loves his family.

What's more, he created his own country. And it's HE, we can even read where the original Jiang Zhen went to.

The author really did great in world building for this story.

This novel constantly appeared on my recommendation. Idek why I havent started it. Maybe it cause the synopsis is not that appealing. But istg when I first read it like I was like aaaahhhh. Why did I constantly avoiding this. This novel is pure. The MC (gong) may seem scary at first but fear not he is very loving to his wife. If you do not seek trouble w him, you may live in peace. The face slapping is so satifsying. And how he awkwardly flirted w his wife make... more>> my day.

The ml? (Uke) is so cute. He is regarded as ugly because of his appearance that are like man. I love his internal monologues. I get it that he is insecure and I love how he tried to overcome it. He is just one cute lil thing.

Overall, its a slice of life. The conflict resolved quite well and the drama is settled quickly. The first part may revolved around him and his wife but afterwards its mostly abt his business. <<less

totally worth it. Usually I tire easily when machine-translating novels but I ended up finishing it before I knew it.

The novel is Fast paced, maybe a bit rushed before the ending as it would have been nice to see a bit more details as it was near the beginning. The world building is complete and immersive, the characters are many and well thought of, the ending doesn't leave openings and it answers all the possible endings beautifully. You can read with a peace of mind.

The MC is a logical person... more>> and his character consistent, my favorite character is the male lead, the manly ger that people used to look down on and fights for his and his husband happiness <<less

The writing style is fairly immature so far - I'm not that far into the story - but I just have to say. It's so refreshing to find a BL story where the 'bottom' actually looks like a man instead of being drastically feminized, especially when it's a 'Ger' story (same applies to ABO 'Omegas'). It's constantly annoying to me when stories emphasize how (stereotypically) feminine and 'beautiful' a male character is, and say that's why they're desirable. If a guy likes men... why would he like the ones that... more>> look like they're women? It takes away all the attractive attributes of a man, and only leaves a vestigial pen*s. It seems to be there for cosmetic purposes. <<less
