Nah, it gets too ridiculous too fast, it broke my immersion and suspension of disbelief by chapter 5, it had promise and seemed interesting but the premise acts more like an isekai than a VRMMO, and the MC is given power since the start, I'll come and read it later if I find myself really bored to see if it redeems itself but for now it just seems like a badly written selfinsert fanfic

It seems that there are two ways to read this novel. As a serious one with some occasional light comedy or as a parody.

The first one is no doubt the worst choice. The story and the writing cannot sustain itself as such (and the way the MC fights almost exclusively with kicks doesn't help it).

The problem with choosing the path of the parody is that it only become as a real choice by around the 8th chapter. Until then the reader can only doubt the validity of this novel (But... more>> the kicks do help the satiric aspects).

I will give a rating of 3.5 (3 for the author and translator, 0.5 for the story) and will round it to 3 since the quality is not anything to brag about, but at least the last few chapters have made me willing to read some more. We will see if it deserves a 4? <<less

I'm honestly unsure of what this novel is trying to do. It takes elements from other popular novels and mashes them together with no intention to make them fit. In the first ten chapters the MC is able to defeat hundreds on his own and has a God Constellation as his follower and is a master at this game he has never even heard of before solely using his kicks.

If you didn't notice, all these negative reviews are from people who read a couple chapters, like ten at most.

I love this novel, and it is refreshing, hilarious, and has a detailed and engaging set of lore/backstory. The MC receives some typical MC stuff like a strong class, but he starts super far behind. While he fights above his level, he rarely works alone and has a great supporting cast.

Aside from that, this old grandfather martial artist MC tries to be cool and modern, which leads to some good laughs!... more>> Overall, this is one of my favorite novels I'm reading right now, and I highly recommend it! <<less

I came in here excited for a story about an old man playing games for some light-hearted fun. No revenge, good familial relations, and no harem were the premises that s**ked me into this and it still couldn't keep my interest.

Like the other reviewers say, the story is ridiculous in terms of the MC power climb. I'm usually okay with overpowered MC's, for example The Reader or The Second Coming of Gluttony. However, in this novel the main character ... more>>

literally becomes the most strongest being in the tutorial. The tutorial!!! Hidden unique job? Fine. But are you seriously gonna give him special titles and buffs on top of that? Oh yeah, did I forget to mention that this grandpa is a martial arts expert and gets special treatment in-game due to his seniority?

[collapse]

If this novel was meant to be a comedic parody of other novels of the genre, then why aren't I laughing? I read a few more chapters with this in mind, hoping the story would get funnier... it didn't.

The reason this story gets a few points is thanks to the fact that there's no revenge plot, a happy family (thank god), and no harem (although this might change later on). If you want a good story with gaming elements, try The Reader or Second Coming of Gluttony. If you're looking for a good comedy, read Cultivation Chat Group. <<less

It's simply too absurd.

An interesting idea and a cool grandpa protagonist were completely wasted by nonsensical execution.

It's pretty obvious to me that author has no idea about games and game design/mechanics. It's possible that he has never played anything at all, but for some unknown reason he decided to create a VR novel instead of standard isekai.

... more>> Thanks to this you will be able to see something really preposterous. As a simple example:

Level 40 grandpa with chief profession, normal items and no offensive/defensive/movement skills killing level 130+ duo BOSSES.

The only thing he has is a shitty system with personal stalker who blessed him with ability to play with fire. That's all.

A bit later at level 70 he will be hunting level 200+ monsters for exp and killing level 300+ bosses.

Level is just a random number here, skills are unnecessary and items - unneeded.

It would be acceptable if the fights were exciting to read, but unfortunately they are as boring as they are ridiculous. MC has 2-3 skills that he is constantly using in the battles and nothing else. It seems that some time in the future he will be able to unlock other elements but that's about it. Nothing to look forward to. Author should just go and play some mmorpgs or at least read a novel of similar genre instead of writing a VR novel and showing off his pathetic knowledge about said subject. <<less

One of my favorites among the relatively newer batch of Korean VR novels so thank you to RT for the translation. Over all it's funny, entertaining and not too irritating (though it has it's moments).
as for the MC, you know Jin Mori's grandpa, Jin Taejin, from God of High School? This grandpa MC reminds me of him; he's super OP IRL and fights with his legs a lot, only more realistically (no sudden canyons appearing from a single kick or anything like that). He's been a fighter all his... more>> life and his like-minded friends from the legless bird group are fun and quirky. The side characters are quite lively and the weapon selections have been awesome.

there's no harem, no greedy and idiotic MC who thinks he's clever, no MC always showing off and talking about how great he is while cheating his friends and treating the NPC as his personal s*aves. Hmm, I guess I can see why some people wouldn't like it *rolls eyes*. <<less

It's a really good novel. I love the characters in this novel, especially the MC. It's such a fresh take on this type of novel and the MC is pretty well written. Simply put, dude is like an old version of some Chinese action movie protagonist (think Jackie Chan). He's so old that he doesn't give a damn about anything except his friends and family (not in an edgy way like some protagonists), and of course, keeping those bastards hand's away from his precious granddaughter lmao. He thinks like a... more>> typical old man (at least to my knowledge) and it's funny to see him interact with the world around him. The key thing to enjoy this novel is to not take it too seriously, I mean the premise itself is ridiculous, without giving too many spoilers, our Korean Jackie Chan MC here decides to take part in this new VR game and due to his real-life martial arts skill, he gets a legendary class and starts beating people up in-game too, of course in a many vs one style typical of an action film protagonist. Highly recommend giving it a shot.

Edit: btw, the backstory behind the game is so s*upid, it's like a mishmash between various religions and cultures, it was so absurd I found it hilarious. <<less

As with most VRMMO stories, it starts with MC receiving absurd luck and insane beginner stats... and he gets perma exp boost because he's old and the game gives elderly preferential treatment.

Basically, not much unique so far, but if you like LMS/OG and want more, this will probably scratch that itch.

Based on prologue, MC is a one-man army archetype.

This novel is meant to be a Comedy, and it does a great job of that. The flow of the story isn't too great, but it does have a somewhat decent pacing and it's unique premise makes it a much more interesting read than you would expect. Of course it takes some time to get a good feel for this story, so I waited until reading up to the current translated chapter to make my review. This novel does a great job of creating the scenery, that being one of... more>> an old man with real life skills being brought into a VRMMORPG. While I can mention downsides to the novel such as a slight lack of depth, keep in mind that it is meant to be a light Comedy, so think of it as such before you read. If it changes in the future, I'll make sure to update the review. <<less

When it's comedic this novel is pretty funny: 4/5. The problem is, it's tries too hard to be an action story too often instead, at which point it noses dives to 2/5 territory. When Grandpa is running around cooking and kicking fools, it's great, but when it devolves into long paragraphs filled with damage numbers, or hostage scenarios, that still get interrupted by Grandpa's dumb actions because of old age or whatever, it's not funny anymore, it just wastes what little tension they accumulated over a chapter or two of... more>> hyping up the fight. It's also inconsequential because Prometheus immediately reminds/tell him of the proper path like a parent teaching a toddler. <<less

I personally enjoy the story, for people who say it's absurd, so is the idea of full-dive vr genre. It's not like it exists in real life? Specially on Korean novels like people tend to hate for no reason. Too picky for a story where the main character is a grandpa.
