Clearing an Isekai with the Zero-Believers Goddess – The Weakest Mage among the Classmates (WN)

Description

Makoto Takatsuki is a normal high school student and a hardcore RPG player.

However, “normal” goes out the window when his whole class is involved in a bus crash and whisked away to another world! Powerful gods rule this strange new land of magic and monsters, and every newcomer is blessed with strong stats and unique skills.

Well, not quite. Makoto’s stats turn out to be pathetic, and his skills are super weak compared to his classmates’…he’s even stuck as an apprentice mage. Worse still, he’s given only ten years to live!

Luckily, Makoto soon meets a minor goddess named Noah, who appears in Makoto’s dreams and asks him to become her first believer. With the help of Noah’s blessings and a divine weapon, Makoto seeks to become strong enough to rescue his goddess from the dungeon where she’s been trapped.

By training hard and using his weak skills in unorthodox ways, Makoto proves that, even when playing on hardcore difficulty, an RPG player always makes it to the end!

Alright Folks, hear me out, This Novel is a solid 4.5/5. The MC is Careful yet a Madman. Those reviews who only rate it 1/5 are just blind folks for not noticing the unique part of the story. The MC is not a random mob who get a super power by doing nothing. NOPE!, the MC here is thinking thoroughly how to exploit his magic to its full potential. The MC may be weak at first but, when shits start to go down, He'll be scarier than the Demon King... more>> himself. <<less

I just created this account to make a review of this novel. Please bear with my grammar and spelling mistakes if there are any.

This story is a MASTERPIECE

So this novel may at the start, give off the impression of a cliche JP novel where the MC has the weakest stats and then gets thrown off by his classmates in a forest or dungeon then goes to have a revenge trip. It’s not like that. It’s much, much better

Our main character here is not overpowered ... more>>
Spoiler

but he will be with some conditions

[collapse]
I think its entirely normal to be indecisive about these things about romance and who to pick among them since he likes them all.

After that is his abilities. I’m quite dissapointed at the most liked review here because you can see just how much they love cheat powers with one hit ko matches. I personally like it much better when they utilize all of their iq in trying to figure out how to defeat the enemy. If you come here expecting to see that, gtfo cause you won’t enjoy this. His abilities are weak but given the right conditions they are strong. The opposite is also true given that putting him in a situation with no water or desert and instantly becomes the weakest. His reaction speed and agility are the slowest and only his magic compensates for it. He didn’t get strong by recieving his abilities tho. He has to continuously work hard and he trains like a maniac day and night so that he wouldn’t be left out in the party. He defeats his opponent with sheer luck and help of others which only proves his immense reliance on others.
Spoiler

His main ability which is spirit magic is unique in the sense that its extremely hard to use. Its mainly relies on the proficiency of the user to use it properly. Unlike other magic, you also need to fulfill conditions such as the area where you’re fighting, whether the spirits are in the mood to lend you their strength, if the enemy is a Titan or a Holy God. There are lot of things to consider which balances out its OPness.

[collapse]
His victories in the fights may seem to be because of plot armor but it isn’t. He’s just utilizing his resources and abilties properly, thinking of unique ways and strategies to win. You think sacrificing your lifespan or getting nearly killed using others’ mana is plot armor? It ain’t so much as plot armor as it is luck. He’s just extremely lucky. The substantial power growth you’re looking for will happen only later on in the story.

The side characters here are not like mob characters which you forget the next arc. They feel realistic and act realistic just like how normal people do. The members of the harem fell in love with him with plot that makes sense unlike other novels where the heroine falls in love by being saved and blushes when called cute. They have understandable reasons to like him. The goddess is cunning and her actions adds spice to the mystery. The best friend is nice and smart as well. He doesn’t rely on MC and is not just there because of plot.

The story doesn’t just revolve around the MC where nothing changes even after a year. It’s cohesive and just makes sense. Other complaints I have seen is that the RPG components of the game, namely the level, power, etc. Are not explained. The thing is, why do you still need to show that if the MC doesn’t use his other stats? He only relies on his proficiency since his stats aside from it, as explained in the novel, don’t go up. No matter how much he trains his body, his strength will still be the same. The leveling system loses its purpose if it doesn’t show any changes which is why only the proficiency is shown.

Next is character development. So given the words itself, our MC develops right? The thing is, expecting him to change immediately is abnormal. I’ve seen comments here where they complain about how he acts so beta and the thing is, they will be resolved later in the story.
Spoiler

You complained about him being indecisive regarding his harem? Worry not cause he will accept them all later! You worried about him not making a move on the girls? Worry not as he will intentionally grope their b**bs later.

[collapse]
Like would you at least try to read and PROPERLY COMPREHEND half of the story before saying that it doesn’t make sense.

That’s just my main points regarding this because I’ve been irritated at others who read this and didn’t understand the story. That’s just your problem.
Spoiler

btw I’ve been reading the rest of the story at JPMTL which has like bullsh*t translation and I can still follow the story

[collapse]
This novel is a definitely a banger for those looking for novels with interesting plot.

P.s. The translation of this novel by Reigokai is superb and he uploads fast consistently and I just want to say ty for translating this. I might not have ever discovered this gem if not for you and ty for that. Best wishes for you :) <<less

The beginning might feel generic isekai at first but it quickly distinguishes itself among its peers. There are no instant douchebag classmates that exist only to infuriate the MC for being weak. MC is rather weak but what distinguishes him from the others is the way he uses his skills. He is neither arrogant nor overbearing. MC is a breath of fresh air.

Story gets better and better. Lots of plot twist and rereading the novel will give you a new perspective regarding the events and make you understand why some... more>> characters that appears in the story acts that way especially when it comes to MC. Characters are also lovable and they don't exist just for the MC. Each of them has their own goal and purpose and their lives don't just revolve on the MC.

Spoiler

His friends don't always follow him on his adventures. Some of them are busy running their business or doing their jobs. They are not just introduced suddenly and now they must go wherever the MC goes.

[collapse]

Don't listen to those who says its just another isekai clone. Its not. Its a great story filled with twists and turns. It also keeps getting better and better as you progress. If you might be wondering why he was chosen by the zero believer goddess despite him being a loser (Not really a loser but only someone with low stats), it gets explained in the story along the way. <<less

It's good, but it definitely goes downhill later on. Not to the degree where I'd drop it, but the author clearly got impatient with the story.

The biggest disappointment was how it starts to treat its side characters in the later arcs. In the early arcs, he is very invested in them, but by the end they barely feature in the story, and he does everything solo, which was extremely disappointing given earlier chapters had them growing alongside him and becoming strong. The final arc leaves them out almost entirely. Heck,... more>> even the MC becomes more bland over time. At the beginning, he feels like a reasonable person. By the end, he's some sociopathic cultist of his god to a creepy degree and it felt way out of character for the guy established to have emotion calming whose first reaction to her was of disappointment.

Another thing like that was regarding a specific set of powers. Minor spoilers for a power he gets and never uses again:

Spoiler

At one point he kisses a girl to use spirits of the element she is proficient with. He then talks about training to potentially be able to use them without suffering major backlash. You'd think this would become a relevant thing in the future... but nope, not really. He ends up using other spirits, but never really has to rely on other people in order to do so.

[collapse]

By the end of the story, it's very disjointed. It jumps all over the place and none of the developments feel natural. It feels like someone took the climax of several arcs and basically taped them together, with no build up or resolution.

Despite that, the beginning was great! Enjoyable, with an interesting main character with interesting powers, interesting side characters, a cool plot, etc, etc. Very enjoyable. Honestly... I kinda recommend reading it up until it introduces time travel. Everything after that point was downhill. <<less

So I'v read a lot of Isekai, and I have to say this one left an especially bad taste in my mouth for how highly rated it is on this site.

The thing I have to ask myself when reading is what is the strong point of this narrative?

Is it the combat? No... the combats are quick and uninspired as our protagonist uses his magic to destroy his enemies in typical isekai fashion. I say uninspired as combat has very little description beyond "What was the attack?" "Did it hit? Y/N"... more>> "Was it effective? Y/N" While there are some elaborate magics described the combat itself provides little entertainment outside of being a means to the end.

Is it the characters? No... the characters are... worse then even 1d characters in my opinion. While I do feel that it was conveyed the zero believer goddess does in fact have a personality, the rest of the cast is.. questionable at best. I feel beyond the two word descriptions of his party like "Fire mage" and "Fighter Girl" the personalities of the females feel identical. If it wasn't for the fact that "character x uses fire" or "character y uses her fists" the character names could be swapped around and I literally could not tell the difference. This can be ok for background characters but the main love interests have 0 character beyond "I'v known the protagonist for X years and am now in love with him b/c we fight together..." Stating a character's backstory is not the same as giving them a personality! They don't have any quirks or gimmicks either so IDK... Even in terms of physical appearance the descriptions are all but non existent as for most of the characters the only thing I know is the color of their hair, eyes, and skin.

Overarching Story? Slightly... the goddess in this story is the best selling point and the main driver of the narrative. However the story spends so much of its time focusing on "other things" like the paper thin romance that it struggles to hold any interest from me.

Is it some unique twist in the genre? No... at least as far as I'v read all of the ideas utilized in this WN are done better elsewhere. As other reviews have pointed to, Konosuba has far superior performances in multiple departments. Mushoku Tensei pretty much set the bar for world building and character development+ romance that this WN doesn't come close to. Even more flawed Isekai with only 1 strong point still far outperform this isekai which only has one so-so point going for it. <<less

I'll be honest: I almost feel like my score is being generous. I cannot believe how many overwhelmingly positive reviews this has. This is not a special novel. Nothing introduced here will blow you away; not the characters, the world building, or the narrative. If you have read any isekai before this, and especially if you've read ones that utilize a RPG leveling-esque system, nothing here will impress you.

Some reviewers have heralded the story for not being "revenge-based, " as if that were some stroke of grand genius that sets... more>> itself apart, but in all honesty, it doesn't improve the story in any way. What actually happens as a result is that there is *too little* conflict. The story drags on for a long time, and the lackluster cast of characters doesn't pick up any of the slack. It's actually incredible how little variance there is in any of the female characters' personalities. Having them mindlessly fawn over the main character as if that are their only traits as conscious beings is not good writing, it's just wish fulfillment fantasy.

Other reviewers have also mentioned that the main character is not "OP" but, that is clearly not true... The main character is presented as being weak, but as we see almost immediately, he's able to defeat monsters that someone of his level should have no business beating, he levels up at an ungodly rate, somehow befriends incredible allies, and is granted all sorts of cheats. Yet, the novel is quick to remind us just how "weak" the character is. It's kind of insulting to the reader's intelligence at a certain point. For a character to be "non op", there needs to be sufficient struggle. There needs to be a sense of "overcoming the obstacle." To be OP doesn't necessarily mean the character can one-shot anyone. It means that whatever they do, there is no struggle. Everything just works out for them easily. That's what we have here, and it is beyond boring. Especially when the novel's selling point is SUPPOSED to be just how **weak** the character is. <<less

For me, this novel is just for killing time. It has a unique character I would say but world building seem really lacking. No information relating to stat or level whatsoever. The story isn’t going anywhere. Every battles end without any excitement to it, it just end.

As of the current chapter, there's no reason to rate this story poorly. Here's a shotgun first impression.

World building exposition aside, the cleverness on elementary magic use is similar to Kazuma in Konosuba, so you can expect deft use of tactics and practical CQC.

The flow of events in the story provide a good amount of high points and feel-good moments to counter some really screwed up world building (if you really think about it). Despite the world having malicious mysteries, the development of the MC and key characters provide a... more>> reason to keep moving forward. There's something genuine about the things the author is most passionate about. The portrayal of the best friend from school, sharing that friendship, and gratitude towards someone willing to take a risk on the MC.

Knowing that the MC works with said Zero-Believers Goddess based on the title of the story doesn't do the set-up justice. When you get to the context, the dialogue and emotion take over and elevate the premise. I couldn't help but smile when their bond is formed. I hope others can also watch over these two fondly.

Nothing screams perfect, of course. It's mostly been set-up, with even mix of world building and relationships. If I get the chance, I'll update with a final score. For now, based on these few chapters, it's a solid 4/5.

Looking forward to more. Knowing Reigokai, the pacing and quality of releases will probably be immaculate. <<less

This whole series was very... average? But also not at the same time. It’s like it took all the right tropes and did them perfectly, with its own little twist here and there! Apart from one area that is. One really, really good area. ... more>>
Spoiler

The time travel arc. I’m not gonna get too far into it, but that was something I didn’t expect, and the whole story of Makoto being separate from his loved ones in a desolate environment, where he could get killed at any moment left the biggest impact on me throughout this series. Also, Anna’s personality was one of my favorites of any stories, and the humor suddenly got a lot better during this part too, like when Abel straight up dies because Makoto accidentally releases a wave of power too strong for a novice like Abel to handle.

[collapse]
also, even though this says “completed” it’s got side stories coming over the next few months. Really should put them on here as they come out, along with the “afterwards” that contains all the pictures of the surprisingly pretty characters. Even the main characters kind of pretty with his purple eyes. Anyways, 5/5 because while it may play into all the tropes, it played into them so well it was perfect, with the bonus of that one arc that didn’t follow any tropes and instead was so interesting I’ve gone back and reread twice. Also Sofia/Anna tied for best girls. <<less

This novel is a lighthearted and overall a pretty cheerful isekai.

The novel starts with the MC transported to another world along with his classmates. Being the weakest among them, the MC has to struggle to train himself and defeat his opponents.

The MC is a slightly beta adventurous gamer. Due to the MC's weakness, he obstinately trained to the point where he the level of control that no one has reached before. Yet, he is still not overpowered due to his lack of mana. Because of this, he have to use... more>> the surrounding environment and his own creativity to his own advantage.

The side characters are by itself interesting people. They do not get much development throughout the story, but the author makes up for it by introduce more characters. This naturally caused some of them to be somewhat sidelined after their individual arcs. But this isn't really much of a problem to the story nor your enjoyment, as they character development are not the focus of this novel.

The main focus of this novel is the character interactions and its lighthearted comedy. But despite the lack of seriousness, the fight scenes are still pulled off perfectly. The fights are a unique blend of laid-back atmosphere and epic actions, which combines into epic action scenes without unnecessary anxiety.

All in all, this is a really fun novel to read. It's not one where you come to experience some epic struggle against an unknown enemy or the tense unraveling of some complex plot. It is one where you come to turn off your brain and enjoy the story, and take a break from whatever you're doing. It's a good novel, 100% recommended. <<less

Aside from the overall rating, I would like to rate this novel part by part.

1. The 1st part, the introduction, is great. The world setting, protagonist's circumstance and the ideas are not the newest thing you've seen, but the way the Author put it made it interesting to read. The harem is good. The big minus here is the way the protagonist grew strong.
Spoiler

Basically, he just practiced with some children in a village, then got liked by the Spirits for some unknown reason, and boom, he got the ability to use Spirit magic. I know the protagonist is a hard-working person, but the progress has to be unique in some way, so that the readers won't have questions pop up in their mind, such as "He just trains like that, and that's all? Is he the only hard-working person in that world? Why do the Spirits like him?" and so on.

[collapse]
For this part, I rate it 4/5

2. The 2nd part is about the development of the story. The battles are great, but the world system which was well-built in the 1st part was neglected, the interraction between people is weird, and romance part is intolerable.
Spoiler
  • The level system was nowhere to be seen, and the protagonist started to use some skills that you have never heard before. His level, or the level of any other characters out there, were not even mentioned. About the skills, where and when did he get those skills? Some may say from the Spirit, but even if it is true, he would use it just like that? No condition except for high efficiency, no nothing?
  • The interraction part. You are a hero who traveled back to the past to save the day, and when you come back, the royalty of some countries do not show any respect to you at all. Does that make sense? Even if we don't mention the hero acts, that's not the appropriate way to treat the one who can directly communicate with Goddesses, whom they worthship. Imagine that your generations have been worshiping a Goddess, now a person who can literally talk to that Goddess appears, and you just "Hey shut up. You're not the Hero anymore".
  • The romance part, in which you would rarely feel any pink aura from them. Clear Mind is reasonable, but even when it was not activated, parts of the novel that describe how the protagonist actually feel about them were actually really rare. The kissing part was the farthest phase that they have reached, for like 2 years? And the interruption that suddenly pops up EVERY SINGLE TIME they are about to advance further is just merely annoying. One time, 2 times, it was fun. But it was repeated like a thousand times. C'mmon, I don't need pages of detailed ecchi scenes. Just some lines that describe the development of their relationship is fine. For example: "They spent the night together. Makoto gave his princess all the love she wants". That's should be enough.
    [collapse]
I rate 2.5/5 3. The 3rd part is the current part, where it is more focused on the next battle.
Spoiler

And possibly the final battle. They fight to prevent the world from being controlled and filled with fake peace.

[collapse]
The story is actually great so far, which may help the reader to forgive the issues in the 2nd part. 5/5 so far for this part.

Overall, I rate it 4, as it could have been better. Still, this novel is great overall, and I would highly recommend it. Just put up with the 2nd part, and you're good to go.

I don't know how I managed to read upto this point cause honestly I hate the characters.

But I have to admit the world building is somewhat interesting and the mysteries of the cheats of MC and his friends intrigue me and also the secrets of Noah is what kept me still reading. Also the misunderstanding caused by MC's clear mind skill is great. Basically the skill allows him to remain calm in any situation so he doesn't really panic or react much like a normal person would do in life... more>> threatening situations. So when we see the other characters reactions Makoto looks insane and super scary because of his unusual calm during such events. An example would be of Furie reaction to Makoto using Eir's spell. Makoto does panic or react but it's not in life threatening situations. Makoto gets nervous for mundane stuff but doesn't bat an eye while in dangerous situation. He also enjoys the thrill and is definitely an adrenaline junkie kinda with how he seeks out danger himself. Makoto is also a somewhat unreliable narrator because what he perceived compared to others is vastly different in some situations. That's like the only great thing about the MC. (My reasons for reading under spoilers tag.)

Spoiler

Rpg player, action player, galge player. These are truly interesting cheat powers and Makoto's super important decisions always show up as a choice in rpg player which makes me wonder how it affects his destiny. Also in the prologue Makoto said that he liked the rpg scenario where the hero became the demon king the best so idk if it's heading that way. Also Noah gives me really weird vibes. She's definitely scheming something. Also the spirits of time. Since Noah is the goddess of spirits she can actually control them and she can definitely meddle in the timeline. Also Noah seems to be aware of Makoto's choices in rpg player. Why do I feel like she's subtly guiding him to be the big villain in the end

[collapse]

As most reviewers said, I really hate the MC's weak minded herbivore personality. Makoto is literally kind of insane about training and rpg esque scenarios (facing strong enemies for example) but is such a f*cking wimp in his relationships. I'm not just talking about his harem. The dude literally allowed everyone to treat him like a carpet. At first his determination to free Noah felt exciting because he was a nobody loser but he forgives his classmates and the Princess who abandoned him very easily. Like doesn't even take 3 seconds.

Spoiler

He also knows of the water goddess Eir's dirty methods (demon soul cannibalism *cough* through sacrifice of lifespan) but proceeds to still act nonchalantly with her. Basically he's kind of crazy.

[collapse]

Also the lifespan gimmick fades away in later chapters cause we don't see any mention of it at all.

His harem sucks. Truly.
Spoiler

Only Ira has some great banter and chemistry with Makoto and I'd much rather MC be alone than be in a harem and do nothing. His harem members are literally having a yuri relationship cause MC won't do anything to them. Seriously Ira is best girl

[collapse]

I really really hate the MC and side characters but if the author had committed to making Makoto totally crazy or removed his unnecessary harem I would have enjoyed it more as a quest like rpg to rescue Noah. Like MC loves challenges and he is super op in later chapters (though he was nerfed by author) just like how an rpg player that completes all sides quests and becomes super op and defeats the final boss easily. That would have fitted with MC's character better.

Spoiler

Also the weird time travel plot was just author making a way for Momo the vampire to become part of Makoto's harem. The Anna romance bit was highly unnecessary

[collapse]

Ok ok I've ranted long enough. I do enjoy the translation and since I've already read upto ch 305 I might as well continue. But if you dislike s*upid dense MC then Dont read <<less

There is so much to say about this story, and so many ways to say it. Lets get the negatives out of the way first. It's a slow story, and a lot of information is slowly revealed over time. I personally read the manga first and started where it left off on the ln.

If you're someone who isn't paying attention during reading you might miss important things because a lot info is subtly thrown around. Action scenes arn't really there because MC is a mage hopefully the webnovel changes that.... more>> There is a harem in the future for the guy, people confess but he wants to do other stuff first. I fear for his health at the rate he is going though since his athletic ability only reaches a fit guy.

Now onto the good stuff that salvages the story. This is spoiler territory first is Makatos personality/ability
Spoiler

Another boring MC you say, no real personality you say. Allow me to preach the truth. When Makato first got thrown into another world and was insulted he got angry this is one of the only times we really see him get mad other than when he loses control later on. Makatos normal personality is that he sees life as a game even outside his skills this guy is actually crazy and treats everything like a videogame. The gamer ability is not what causes it. Though it seems implied that the options alter fate where once he chooses an option he has to do it or something. You might be thinking we have a crazy man, big deal. One thing doesn't make a personality. You're right, and actually what we are seeing in the novel is also the destruction of a personality and someone's humanity. His clear mind ability enhances his gaming logic the higher it goes, and at 100% erodes his humanity over the course of the novel he has gotten a lot colder if you're actually looking for it this isn't something you can rationalize out of like with other gamer systems there is direct negative impacts. I think it makes for an interesting read to see how messed up he will become sacrificing his emotions. Do we call this a dynamic character? Either way it's interesting one great thing about this novel is how good the author is at cliffhangers later on.

[collapse]

I also saw a review talk about how it doesn't make sense people arn't as strong or stronger than Makato with proficiency. This is kind of a spoiler but
Spoiler

My dude Makato had been training everyday for two years from dawn till 4am in the morning, and literally water tortured himself till he could train in his sleep during that time. He has bad mana but he can use the basically infinite mana of the spirits small scale because of his bad class. Thanks to clear mind and his gamer thing to an extent I'm sure he did something other sane normal humans can't do to the same extent if you could essentially constantly do something for like 20 hours everyday and not feel the the full effects of exhaustion because you block it out you would get good at whatever you were doing probably 4 times faster than someone who had to take breaks too. Proficiency is harder the stronger your magic is anyway so doing something like training in your sleep wouldn't be feesable unless you want to die. The reason no one is as strong as him in proficiency, is because training proficiency is not easy to do when you have strong skills it's easier to just level up, and after leveling up proficiency benefits are not that useful past 50 which is silent casting. People with weak skills don't have the spirit skill, or a motive to train proficiency that high to begin with. They couldn't do anything with that high of proficiency anyway because they don't have spirit magic to call upon enough magic to really raise the skill

As for Noah picking Makato, and not brainwashing someone stronger.
Spoiler

We have learned that she thinks really far ahead in advance. Has probably been picking someone every 10 years from that world when she can. She may have said all that stuff to Makato, but it really might have been a calculated choice it's actually pretty wild.

The story is a fun read, made me laugh a couple times, and want to see what happens next. It's not fatestay/night or nasu level writing but it is better than the vast majority of everything that has been posted on this site. People making predictions in the comment section, and the community that comes together to read it. The story isn't some amazing new idea but plot points are woven together really well, and it seems like the author has a plan with an endgame unlike every other story here that comes up with a premise and then drops the ball on why we should continue reading. <<less

10 of the 1* rating recently all have the same bullsh*t reason to rate 1* as if they are all from the same person or group of people that want to revenge the translation group or something. But if you are a truly reader who reading this comment, I think that you should try reading this novel. Maybe it's not a masterpiece, not the best in the world, but more like a glass of cool water that refresh you after a hot day and it deserve the rating as it... more>> is (who can dislike a cup of cool water, right?). To conclude, I hope that novelupdate community can grown to be a good community of fair reader who give the right rating to those novel which deserve it like rotten tomatoes or imdb with hollywood movie and not a toxic community full of haters. <<less

I guess there is some kind of campaign to lower the rating of this novel or something...

I am not gonna say that IT IS the best novel but, this novel IS definitely one of the best JP isekai out there.

To those who said that it is generic and full of cliché, you simply did not read enough SO stop writing bullsh** when you did not even reach 50 ch or something.

Anyway I am not used to writing reviews, I am just pissed because people keep trolling good works just because... more>> it did not fit their taste. <<less

Well MC is very kind and thats bothers me.. He doesn't even seek revenge for himself and it bothers me. But when facing a Demi God he nearly killed himself to kill that B*tch guy, so I really liked that part..

Oh ya I liked the Romance Part where he had with that moon oracle.

Looking forward for his Time Travel journey...

It's your typical isekai where the weak becomes strong and game-like elements but DONE WELL, really well. The story feels simple and easy to read; of course it is, it's a shonen.

MC starts with a interesting handicap, which is a physically weak body and poor mana, no goddess but one wants to bless him because he's weak.

Spoiler

The relation between MC and the goddess it's complicated, but it works because it's not a one-sided deal.

MC accepts being an apostole of an evil god in exchange of her blessing, MC needs that blessing to compensate for his handicap and you later on learn that the evil god it's in a precarious situation too, so there's a reason why it happened, not just because he's the MC he receives an OP blessing, because he doesn't, it's just a little help that he expects to return someday with full gratitude, that's why it doesn't feel forced

[collapse]

Even tho he's weak and understimated at first, it doesn't become a cliché novel where he gets OP and gets revenge on everyone who looked down upon him, because they actually are likable and relatable; they are not bodhisattvas, but they aren't bad, they're just like normal people with their cons and pros which is why they feel real. The Light Hero who was supposedly the chosen one it's just a kid who cannot bear the burden of saving the world and the politics behind it, he doesn't feel like a character made to be strong and badass and that's it, he feels like a human. When the Water princess didn't pay him any mind at first and you think "This is gonna be another trope when MC gets revenge on c*cky character who looked down upon him in the first chapter" but no, she did not see any talent on MC, so she didn't even bother because that was her job; to seek talents for her country. We cannot blame the princess for something no one would expect to happen, which is the MC getting stronger (He starts with a handicap) and even she admits that she should've taken a closer look, and then become friends.

MC doesn't become OP or a Gary Stu, he still has his kryptonite, unlike Solo Leveling which becomes boring because theres no drama, MC it's just too powerful for something interesting to happen, that's not the case here. MC needs his friends backing him and his friends need him, that's why there's a reason to pay attention to them, because it's not just necessary for the story to continue or because it's important to MC, but because they will feel important to us too; they are there for a reason and the author use them very well. I very often find women in shonen novels very annoying, because they feel like a decoration but here I felt like they really are doing something (Unlike Orihime in Bleach or Lucy in Fairy Tail lolololol)

What I feel annoying is the ever dense MC which is classical of isekai shonens, but I think it is a little justified here.

Spoiler

MC unique skills are

RPG player: It just gives you different perspectives, like seeing what's behind you without looking back and so on.

Clear mind: It's just that, he can mainting a calm mind and think of a solution in situations where most people would panic, but combined with RPG Player you later on learn that the reason why he doesn't feel fear or even libido it's because of these two skills, he's simply thinking coldly because it became a habit after months of doing it with life threathening situations, plus the RPG Player skill with is like a third person in videogames. (Normally in videogames you feel tenser in first person than in third person, because there's less than you can see and you feel it like it's first hand)

This issue is addressed by the goddess, which tells him to not abuse of this ability because the feelings are what makes him human.

There's also the spirit user which borrows mana from the spirits, but it isn't OP, you need water spirits to use them, and when he travelled to the fire country he got his ass kicked, because even tho he's skilled, he's naturally weak and depends on borrowing mana from his friends

The goddess also forbids the thechnique of becoming a spirit to gain power, because it is not reversible by conventional means and he would be reduced to an empty (of emotions) but powerful shell

[collapse]

I think the world building it's really good, because it feels like it is working without the MC, everyone is doing something, and it doesn't feels like the world was made for him to step on and save the world, he just happened to be there, the same as every character in the novel. <<less

Rating is for translation quality only.

Great translation, barely any mistakes, well written and accurate.

As for the story, it started great. I loved how reasonable it was; contrary to what the description implies, the whole "weakest" thing is done very reasonably, people aren't overly pitying him or turning into cringe villains for the purpose of cheap revenge later on. People in the story are just being people, and not the author's tools. I loved that were other classmate characters doing their own thing and being a significant part of the story.... more>> Everything revolving around the main character is a major flaw of almost every isekai story.

But unfortunately, the story gradually falls back to a typical harem isekai with overpowered protagonist. The weak thing quickly becomes irrelevent and only stays around as a cheap tool for shounen shinanigans. The other classmates have barely done anything in the last 50 chapters. Of course, every girl falls in love with the main character. The romance is not interesting, the MC is your regular japanese MC with 0 assertiveness. Someone comes in right before a kiss scene literally 5 times. You get the point, you've seen it all. Maybe it's your thing, surely some people must like this sh*t if it's in every novel. At least in this novel MC appears to just not be interested in romance, which would make sense when there's a catastrophic demon lord coming around and you're part of the main fighting force and training. But he just never says anything about that, instead just letting the girls do their typical "5 assertive yet overly shy girls vs 1 dense mc" thing, over and over. <<less

Orthodox, that word sums up this story. Orthodox but in a good way. It's the classic hero story of a young man growing stronger throughout his adventure, except he's not the "hero", he's the side character that you max relationship points with to get that OP assist skill that will help you beat the last boss. An honestly refreshing take.
