The traitorous general Gu Mang was returning to his homeland. Everyone wanted to see him dead, and it was said that the one who hated him most was his former best friend—the cold and ascetic Young Master Mo.

The rumours said: Young Master Mo prepared three hundred and sixty-five methods of torture to interrogate him with, just waiting to try them out on Gu Mang. They were so varied it was more than enough to toy with him for a year without repetition.

Except these rumours were very quickly forbidden by Young Master Mo. The reason given was that they described him as a lunatic, and were severely inconsistent with reality.

So what was the truth?

The truth was even more unspeakable—

Mo Xi’s identity: the most abstinent commander of the empire.

His relationship with the traitor Gu Mang: they’d slept together before.

I think that Yu Wu is very good for what it's worth, but you must be aware of Meatbun's plot execution issues before going into it. It's been a running theme in her novels to struggle at the 2/3rd mark. I feel like every single new reader of hers shouldn't expect too much from the conclusion of her stories.
I went into Yu Wu hoping she would improve after Book 3 of 2Ha was... like that. But she still struggled to draw all of her plot threads to a conclusive ending. Though I think Yu Wu was definitely a step up, since the story was much shorter and much more concise. (I felt as though 2Ha dragged on for ~30-50 chapters too long)

But if you have simple needs like me (angst & hurt/no comfort), this is definitely it. The characterization, CP writing, character development, etc is all great. I think a majority of the characters are fleshed out, especially Gu Mang, who I feel really shines. He is an extremely fleshed ML and he suffers so much!!! (Mb please let your shous rest) Though I feel like I cannot say the same for Mo Xi. His writing felt very weak to me & I feel like I didn't get a very strong impression from him throughout. This is just my opinion though because I personally know people who think otherwise. It's just odd how he is just... there.. considering how strongly characterized Meatbun's other protagonists are... Chu Wanning, Mo Ran, He Yu, Xie Qingcheng, Gu Mang... yeahhh

I give this one a 4 rather than a 5 because even though ximang's writing and chemistry was very strong, I never felt particularly invested in their relationship enough for it to make up for the story flaws. Meatbun is extremely talented at writing pairings so I never once felt disconnected from the romance, but I never truly resonated with them the way I do other pairings. That's just my personal taste in ships though, it has nothing to do with the novel's writing. Since I didn't really care for ximang I always felt myself more interested in the side characters. (Murong Lian and Murong Chuyi were my favorite parts of Yu Wu not going to lie.)

I will keep recommending Yu Wu, because sadly it's becoming the forgotten middle child of Meatbun as more people flock to Bing an Ben, but hopefully that'll change in the future and more people will experience it!! So yeah!! A strong 4/5 stars.

As expected from Meatbun.
The knives will come like suddenly!

Reading this really gave me a roller-coaster feeling, but honestly, after I finished reading this story, instead of feels empty, I still feel so angry (because of the villain ofc). Like, bruh What the fork just happened-kind of feeling :')

If you love angst. This one is your cup of tea.
The pain was... *chef kiss* :')

Rating: 5/5- Knives! Knives! And more Knives! Wow!

So Meatbun is pretty much my favorite author and for good reason, as she writes the most amazing characters with fantastic world building and the angst is top notch.

Yuwu is nothing like ErHa but that’s what makes it enjoyable! It has its own pits and highlights and it’s leads are absolutely gut-wrenchingly, beautiful! Every character etches themselves into your heart and both their flaws and good points are memorable.

The book has the tone of suffering and despair from the first chapter right up... more>> until the last chapter and you only get to enjoy momentary sweetness in drips and drabs when reading this novel. My heart hurt reading about Gu Mang and at first I truly hated Mo Xi. Except Meatbun once again weaves her magic of making you come to love even the worst of characters (looking at you Murong Lian).

Gu Mang is a difficult character to understand. His ideals know no bounds and sometimes you just want to slap some selfishness into him. By the end of it all, I still learned to accept his character and his choices even though I cried through his experiences.

Mo Xi shows immense character growth from start to finish and his strength and love really develop with every chapter. Although he was always sincere you do end up feeling immensely sorry for him by the end.

I fell in love with our Chu Wanning lookalike Murong Chuyi and many other characters like Jiang Fuli and Yue Chenqing. It’s a wonderfully complex and heart wrenching world created and the journey to victory is filled with all sorts of emotions.

Overall, Yuwu is worth the read and unforgettable. There’s a few Easter eggs for ErHa fans as well although Yuwu is set centuries before ErHa.

Meatbun tops my list of authors! ErHa still tops my list of all time favourites but Yuwu is a 5/5 read and wonderfully memorable and poignant in its own right! <<less

First of all, If you read Meatbun's 2ha work then in comparison Yuwu is painful than 2ha, a unique story of its own out of loads of BL all around these years.

Well written characters, trust me you won't get bored, you'll be wanting for more. The only sad thing about this one is translations are slow, haha. ;P
