Marriage of the Di Daughter

Description

Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.

The young lady from the Xue family was talented and beautiful, and married the dream husband at the age of 16. They had a loving and harmonious relationship and were together for 3 years when her husband attained the title of Imperial Scholar.

Now that he had attained glory and honor, he was dissatisfied with his commoner wife. He craved power and wealth; in his quest to become prince consort, he regarded her as an obstacle to marrying the princess and was willing to mu*der both his wife and children.

The arrogant and willful princess stood before her and ridiculed her: “So what if you are exceptionally beautiful and have unparalleled talents? After all, you are only a small official’s daughter, for this princess to crush you – is just as simple as crushing an ant to death!”

Her reputation was smeared, she committed su*cide by hanging, her brother was mu*dered while seeking justice for her, and her old father fell ill from the chain of grievous news and passed away.

During the 42nd year of Hong Xiao’s reign, Yanjing’s no. 1 beauty, Xue Fang Fei, passed away. She reincarnated into the body of the Grand Secretariat’s daughter, Jiang Li, who drowned and was granted new life!

She got into a prominent family and engaged in dirty, underhanded dealings non-stop. She came across all sorts of bad characters, be they monsters or freaks, she dealt with them accordingly. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.

Once she was soft-hearted, but now she has become heartless! Jiang Li swore never to be an insignificant character again, and never to allow anyone to trample over herself again. This lifetime, she would seek justice by having her revenge and resolving this blood feud!

He is Northern Yan’s youngest duke, he is unrestrained and beautiful, he is capricious, and he collects the world’s strangest flowers.

Everyone said that the Grand Secretariat’s second daughter is spirited and lovely, pure and kind, and that she is likened to a white lotus.

He is clad in beautiful, red clothes, and retorted with a smile, “A white lotus? She is clearly a man-eating flower that eats people without spitting out bones!”

Jiang Li: “Duke, careful you don’t break your hand.”

Ji Heng: “Such a ferocious man-eating flower, of course I’m going to snatch it home to safeguard.”

An unrestrained hunk vs a daughter from an aristocratic family. The pair of wolves in sheep’s clothing join hands to tyrannize the world.

If the translator can translate like this all the way to the end, I would probably be the happiest person alive. I've just gotten off reading translations that were amazing in the beginning, then was abandoned, before being hacked to pieces by another translator and it never took off in the end because... well, it's unreadable. (Another novel in this rebirth genre. Another reviewer shares the same thoughts.) I could tell the translators worked hard on this, kudos to them, especially Blooming Translations. Thank you for your efforts. Everything flowed... more>> very nicely.

This work has potential to be another breakout star, the other being Malicious Empress, both from the same author.

After reading similar and mediocre titles, finding out my fav novel Princess Wei Yang was a work of plagiarism (putting this here to alert ppl to avoid reading it) and with the near completion of Malicious Empress, the title came at the right time. <<less

It's a good story. If one like " the rebirth of the malicious empress" story then you will like it. Because both has similarities and also not.

The MC came back as Jiang Li. Then she started her plan for revenge.

And also this story is like author other stories slow romance. After 200+ you would get to see romance.

Spoiler

Ah yes. The romance is so slow that after ML kissed MC when both ML and MC confirm their feelings for each other then you got to see couple romance.

Oh yes her past life family members they are alive. She found them.

[collapse]

As always Author tried to describe the ML devilish handsome. But XJX is the best ML ever for me. The ML is Too much OP. He is also pitiful. I enjoyed the story. But not much as Shen Miao story.

There are many schemes in the novel. But I enjoyed most until the stepmom death arc. After that new turn 200+ I didn't read clearly except the chapters the couple confirmed their feelings and read the ending fully (last chapter --a truly long long chapter). But the ending was really emotional. I almost cried. There's also couple separation for a time period at the end part.

Before reading this novel just know you will die before the translation will finish and the MTL is pretty hard to understand so better of reading other novels in the first place.

The story is pretty good. MC and ML is a bit mary sue and gary stu but if you like these kind of leads you will like them. The schemes are not too complicated and the face slappings are moderate and not overboard. The pace is a bit slow and you could skip several paragraphs just describing someone's beauty... more>> but all in all not bad. <<less

Malicious Empress brought me to this novel and, like it's predecessor, this one doesn't disappoint in terms of plotting / schemes / face slapping. Plots actually make sense and the fast pacing makes for a fun, page turning read. 5/5 for this part.

I was, however, quite disappointed with the romance - bland and not at all well developed in my opinion. I give it a 2/5. I couldn't help but compare it with the perfect progression in Malicious Empress - although it was slow, we had hints starting from... more>> early on and there was incredible chemistry / sparks in every interaction. The romance here paled in comparison and was non-existent or flat for most of the novel. Seemed like the author put things on the back burner, suddenly remembered the romance at the very end and realized she needed to cram in a lot of ground all at once...

Major spoiler!!!

Spoiler

200+ chapters in, out of 240, we get the first kiss, confession, marriage proposal all together in the same scene at once. This scene was sweetly written but just terribly sudden and rushed, and I wish the author did more to let the romance and tension build from the very beginning. Until this point the MC didn't know the male lead liked her and to be honest, I could barely tell either. Sure, the ML helped her out a lot but it always seemed awfully platonic.

[collapse]

Also mild annoyance with the ending - the author seems to like to use a similar troupe in all her novels for the last few chapters...

Major spoiler again!!!

Spoiler

of some sort of "forced separation" between the main leads for the last few chapters. In malicious empress it was the coma, here it's one of the leads "going missing" - both times I thought it was too contrived and just lazy writing especially in comparison to the exquisite and well thought out plots for the rest of the novel.

[collapse]

Overall still an enjoyable read and despite some minor gripes, love this author's works. <<less

This story is less cunning and gory compared to the other two novels but the storyline is quite satisfactory. I do love all FL created by Qian Shan Cha Ke. Jiang Li has a different charm than Shen Miao and Jiang Ruan. Compared to other two, she is more expressive and less violent. She is also more gentle and kind.

ML is a husband material!

Spoiler

ML knows how to cook and his dishes and desserts are superb XD. He is also the most gentleman, can sing opera and less shameless. His temperament is between Xie Jing Xing and Xiao Shao. Xie Jing Xing has Mo Yun Army, Xiou Shao hold powerful assassin group, then this ML is a spy master.

[collapse]
He is handsome of course (but couldn't beat Xie Jing Xing in terms of description XD). I love the banter between FL and ML and I think ML background is the saddest among the previous one.

FL has similar premise like FL in ill-fated consort.
Spoiler

She was sent away to nunnery because of step mom, father is a high ranking official, spoilt step sister, mother died early and mother's family is kind to FL. But the difference is FL father has conscience and he has regrets towards FL. He tried to redeem his mistakes but still couldn't perform his part as a good father to Jiang Li. But FL is not cruel enough to scheme against this father to death or let the family miserable, but his ending is quite enough karma for the real Jiang Li according to FL

[collapse]

The story focuses more on the schemes by FL and ML, so there will be less story about the people around them (like the servants, FL maiden family, ML friends). Even I think FL maids and ML subordinates are quite bland. They are not gossipers like Cong Yang or Lu Zhu. However I love ML grandpa so much! He is a moodmaker throughout the story!

Spoiler

But he died later and that saddened me the most T.T

[collapse]

This story is worth the reading although I still wish the author to expend the side story more. <<less

The plot is slightly different from the usual reincarnate/transmigration novels, and the female lead isn't OP and do know her limits. However, your male lead is the typical OP male lead, which is totally acceptable, given the premise of the story. Romance portion is super slow, as it only blooms near the end of the series.

I do enjoy the male lead from "malicious empress" more, as there is more story with him than the male lead in this one.

It's a rather complete story, and is not needlessly long.

Instead of reading all the fillers in the chapters of this book, why don't I go read a history textbook on some dynasty instead? At least, the trivia info could count as making me more knowledgeable.

Honestly, the story stagnates on these info dumps on this and that person, their backstory and connections. And instead of easing us into this info with the MC, the MC already knows all this like the back of her hand. (Despite being a small officials daughter who did not even grow up in the capital... more>> before, she seems to know every political intrigue of the capital)

The MC makes one random boring move, a couple of filler paragraphs or chapters later, they tell us this move is going to have big impact and go on into filler explanation to tell us why.

NOT EVERY THING NEEDS TO BE EXPLAINED!

You don't get to explore and do things out with the MC. There is a feeling of being left behind.

And instead of long paragraphs of explanation, I wish the characters actions, dialogues and scenes were what we used to get to know this world and it's politics instead. <<less

Loved this so much.

If I want to compare this work with another novel, I'd say that this story is a better, more refined version of Princess Wei Yang.

While Wei Yang's story would make you both sad and tired albeit the excellence, this one isn't that bitter or fraught with senseless cruelty. Everything the FL did is within clear reason and it wasn't overdone.

Also, I'm happy that the FL actually have a reliable partner in crime ML for once. Pretty much, this kind of historical stories are usually laden with MCs... more>> who are capable solo fighters but being in a co-op with the ML makes this novel a whole lot better.

The slow part of this story is nicely paced. I've never been bored for once. You can actually enjoy the slowness as a breather before you're frantically reading the middle part 😂 <<less

I've read this novel after reading the Rebirth of an Ill-Fated Consort as it was apparently made by the same author. I did realize that I've read this before but forgot to leave a review so I just decided to reread this. Compared to the Ill-Fated Consort, this novel was much more human... more flawed. Although FL is indeed like a second life in another body and changed into a more cruel, calculated, and calm person, deep inside, she still kept her human emotions and feelings. Unlike Jiang Ruan who... more>> is an expert at understanding people's minds and predicting her enemies' actions, FL (Jiang Li) is more flawed and even her plans and schemes weren't certain to succeed. She'd make mistakes like overlooking other possible enemies and letting emotion and feelings control her sometimes but that's the thing that makes her more relatable. You can clearly understand her feelings, aspirations for revenge, and her struggles.

As for ML, you could say he is an enigma. From the start, you would end up wondering if ML stood on the opposite side of MC but he really actually is just watching everything like a play. He just watches the play and is interested in the 'plays' that MC creates, but he won't be part of the play (that did change later on because of FL lol). It's difficult to really decipher ML's thoughts and even after finishing the novel, I really didn't know when ML fell for MC. Their feelings for each other weren't sudden and passionate, rather very slow as if slowly creeping into their hearts as time passed. Upon reaching the end of the novel, you'd finally be able to realize why ML was such an enigma and why he fell for MC. You'd also know why they were so entangled in MC's second life as Miss Jiang
Spoiler

because ML heard MC (when she was still Xue Fangfei) sing in her courtyard on a swing when ML's father died because of ML's decision. ML gained courage to move forward because MC was s*upidly brave and positive. He even thought at that time that it was so regretful that MC was such a great flower planted in the Shen's backyard where she was always suppressed and thought that it would be great if she could've been his instead. Though this still wasn't the reason ML fell for MC but ML did remember and MC later dreamed about it.

[collapse]

I also liked how the Jiang family in this novel was pretty good compared to RIFC's Jiang Family. The father (Jiang Yuanbai) was just a flawed father and was only fooled all those time by his second wife. He and the rest of Jiang Family did their best to compensate to MC. Sadly, MC really isn't Jiang Li, but at the same time is, and is also Xue Fangfei.
Spoiler

Xue Fangfei's dad and brother are still alive yaaaay! A lot of really good family support for MC and also the Emperor in this novel was really smart and still pretty good. The only thing that I wasn't satisfied about is that I wasn't able to read about MC and ML's children :<<<

[collapse]

Over-all a very nice read~ ML belongs to a very rare ML archetype (unpredictable, moody, glamorous and enigmatic) so it's very fun to read about his interactions with FL/MC. <<less

Enjoyed the story so much I had to mtl it!! Totally worth the time I spent on it!!!

The ML and the MC build up their trust in each other as the story goes on, not like other stories where the guy starts overly pampering the girl without us understanding from where this "deep affection" came from.

Spoiler

The only character that I really felt sorry for was Yin Zhilin, I don't know why but I feel like his parents just broke the guy into becoming a mad character. The guy was a really kind person and then one day his dad crashes everything in his life, basically we can say that he was forced into breaking down to become the final villain of this story. He had to pay for the crimes of his parents when all faults lie in their selfishness, especially his mother, that empress dowager is just disgusting.

The ending is fulfilling!! <<less

I came here through Malicious Empress and I was not disappointed. I loved the clear distinctions between the two books. The ML and the FL from both books are very smart and think things through but I enjoyed the fact that both parties in this book wanted Revenge for wrongs committed and that they intersected in a way. I'm going to read a few of her others as well because I was pleased. The romance was more of a slow burn than Malicious Empress though so be warned. It was... more>> quite worth it though and the time frame is shorter than Malicious Empress. There's was around less than 2 years while the other was almost 4. <<less

Well, another serve from the author of malicious empress. I've read this after the ill-fated consort, and it's another fresh take with the whole rebirth plot. Of course, the revenge and face-slapping are there, with less death than ill-fated consort (and I'm not complaining about ill-fated consort, come on, she has the most tragic backstory and her ruthlessness is totally justifiable though how I wish the princess in this novel met the FL in ill-fated, lol)

And I don't find the romance out of place? Like with the FL's previous... more>> experience with love and with ML's personality, I really expected the slow burn and initial denials of attraction. Inserting overt romance with all the conspiracies and plottings happening would make it more out of place because FL is in her one-track mission of revenge while ML is in the middle of cooking his own agenda that had started for so long and all these conspiracies seemed had turned him jaded about most people. ML finding her interesting and worth his help is basically him having a crush though he won't see it like that and just say he's only interested about the 'play' and how it will affect his own agenda, lol.

The romance didn't seemed forced or out of left field for me. It's just natural in the grand scheme of things in the novel. It would only just be a distraction for FL whose plans mostly depend on how other people plot against her and her more active approach requires her attention anyway. She's also juggling around three families. When everything almost settled down in her revenge-spree, that's when she has the time to reflect more about his relationship with ML. And ML slowly falling for her can be seen with his actions, him making exceptions for her and accomodating her is already telling.

Anyway, it's worth the MTL. I'll still read the translation because the translators really are amazing. <<less

Great story!! MC is awesome and ML is cool!!

Really liked the way MC went about the revenge, her emotions are well portrayed.

Really loved that her previous life- family members are alive and together, adding to her new happy life!

Would have liked more sweet moments with ML, but his initial reluctance and then helplessness towards her is also beautiful! Can be read again once it is properly translated!!

This is a product of the year it was written, when rebirth revenge history novels I think were just getting started. In that way, a lot of things we now see as cliche for the genre were probably being cemented by novels like this. For that, I think a lot of people will find this very cliche (even me), but I forgive it because I understand context and I do like this type of genre.

I would say this is the weakest writing I've seen from this author just for how... more>> cliche it was personally. But it's still enjoyable and a page turner for sure. There are probably some things I would not forgive if it weren't for the fact I am slightly biased to this author. Just know what you're getting into is a classic bloodthirsty rebirth revenge ancient china novel, and you'll be fine and like it. It's still an exciting read.

You should just not have a too high expectation for the MC ok unfortunately. She's not bad at all. She just barely not a damsel in distress, but I forgive it because I'm biased. However, alternatively you could just say that if females weren't oppressed and could be come ministers of the state, she would be a good one. Man tho, I have to say I didn't expect to have the amount of baby rage towards the last villain that I do now because boy. Whew I would mu*der the person slowly and that's crazy because there were some terrible villains in here and I wasn't even bothered until
Spoiler

the last villain said how he even got the ml's mom r*ped. Like ok. Wtf bro. Ok so she saw your escapade with the queen. You could have just mu*dered her and be done. But you tell me you made her gangbang r*ped and them killed her and put her on the doorstep of your "bff's" home? The gangbang was so unnecessary.

[collapse]
you're f*cked up. Man the rage I have. I mean I couldn't believe that last villain got me to feel the things I did. I read this pretty unaffected until that person's shit.

Spoiler

omfg. If I wasn't biased I think I would give this a 2 or 3, because I mean I understand where the emperor is coming from, but actually no I don't you little b*tch. The MC by no means would become like the queen dowager. They arent in the same position, love story, and f*cking personality so bs little b*tch. Second ok she knows too much information. SO f*ckING WHAT. OK THATS REASONABLE BUT EVERYONE INVOLVED IS ALREADY DEAD. That information is inconsequential. The emperor basically c*ckblocked for angst purposes bc honestly wtf is his character? And if we're gonna continue this rant. This book suffers from internalized misogyny that exist bc half the characters have misogyny in this time period and half bc the author probably had it at the time. Because although the princess was terrible and her ex also ended up dead in the end, THERE WAS SO MUCH FOCUS PN THE PRINCESS. Like ok she does deserve to die, but why wasn't the focus of revenge mostly on the ex? I know it was a 2 in 1er bc by punishing the princess she would ruin her ex's ambitions. This is fine as an entertaining novel. But probably her worse one in terms of how it's become dated over the years (considering it doesn't have the excuse of being the OG) because there lacks nuances that will be prevalent in novels following this genre in the following years after. I guess feminism really did increase over the years so that's good.

I like the story, I like the main characters, overall it's good for me. I really don't have any story of the author that I didn't like. They have their own charms despite some similarities. I already finished reading this days ago, and now I'm almost done reading Reborn Star General but I still can't move on with this. I already moved on with Malicious Empress and Ill-fated Consort (even though I'm almost nearing the ending chapters} but this story really hit my heart!

First of all, I love Xue Fang... more>> Fei's character, before and after. She wasn't s*upid and gullible during her prev life (good parenting here!) which I really like, but sadly she was repressed and experienced miserable end. Fortunately, she was given a new life as she became Jiang Li. I really love this! Unlike Shen Miao and Jiang Ruan, Jiang Li doesn't have the knowledge of what was supposed to happen. She didn't return to the past but instead came to life with another body and identity on the same period. She began to avenge her family but she didn't lose her nature--herself.

Now, let's go to ML. Unlike Xie Jing Xing and Xiao Shao, Ji Heng doesn't involve himself in Jiang Li's movements. He just watches from the sides and enjoy it... like us readers. In short, he wasn't very nosy and offers help. At the start, I feel like if Jiang Li failed, he would just "If you die, you die." But oh well, our female lead managed to tie him up anyway and became the only person Jiang Li runs to when she feels incapable of something. She knows her limits and capabilities. Sometimes, I found her shameless but not shameless at the same time because Ji Heng really gave her a hand even though she couldn't think of anything to give in return and she was burdened by it. But it didn't mean that I did not like it. It just feels fresh from too strong and majestic female leads but ends up a damsel in distress because of the male lead--this story doesn't have this. That's how I felt.

Anddd one of the biggest reasons why I couldn't move on from this story is because of romance! I actually turned to BLs because some hetero romance I had read doesn't give me the "sparks" anymore and I found them meh. But the author's novels gave me hope and brought the "sparks" again. And Marriage of the Di Daughter has the strongest "sparks" for me. I love every bit of their interactions even though Ji Heng doesn't appear too much at the start (lol I think the maids even have more screentime at that part). Because of Ji Heng and Jiang Li's character, the romance has that impact to my heart. I love how Ji Heng reads a person, I love Jiang Li's character, I love them both.

At the end, it's a happy ending. This is a great read, I enjoyed it. But the end chapters feels extended and I didn't see their married life. But I can't imagine Ji Heng having children. I don't know who he is as a father but I'm sure it will be great and wholesome. A pity tho, it wasn't shown. <<less

I enjoyed this one a lot!

Jiang Li starting over in a new person's life instead of going back in time changes the story up a bit from her other works, as she doesn't have the super knowledge of the future that the others have. I love Jiang Li as a protagonist; she's a bit less cold-hearted than some of the other protagonists. I love seeing her make connections with her new family, and being more open to trusting people.

The romance is super slow, even slower than her other works and... more>> really does not pick up until like the last 20% of the story. That said, overall I felt the plot of the story was solid and kept moving at a good pace. <<less

So, some might hate me for this review I write, lolol.

Anyway, now that I have read all three novels of this author, I can safely say, this novel is carbon copy of the other 2 novels of rebirth. ╮ (╯▽╰) ╭ Maybe the author likes this whole troupe or maybe just lazy to look for other theme, who knows. Anyway, if you have read rebirth of malicious empress from military lineage and rebirth of ill fated consort, you know 100% of what to expect.

Only difference is the MC family background, circumstances of rebirth, revenge target, and
Spoiler

the type of separation the CP faced

[collapse]

Slow moving romance plot at the start and then a humongous rush of romance near the end. I'm not even surprised.

However, compared to the other two, I think this one is the best in term of story telling. The story is engaging and it's compact. Due to the background of both MC and ML, I think this novel is the most ancient china-esque of this author works. I can see her improvement from the other 2.

I love both MC and ML. I just wish there weren't so many description of how handsome ML is, alas.

There's a lot of foreshadowing about incoming face slapping and it's fun to think with the MC of what could actually be happening and how to counter it. The MC is both intelligence and smart. She's more stable than empress Shen, though it pains me to say that. I love Empress Shen.

The political turbulence is quite intense, and the fact that this rebirth isn't the go-back-to-the-past kind of rebirth, complicated MC's revenge.

All in all, I recommend to read this. I'll go back reading this when the translator gets some more chapters stored. So far, the translation is great and rather fast to update.

Summary w some spoilers not under the spoiler tag so read at your own risk I guess

? But this is a really good novel and I really enjoyed reading it.
Spoiler

From a smart, (most) beautiful lady who was loved by all to someone who lost everything, this tells us the story of MC who got killed by the Princess because she fell in love at first sight w MC's husband. MC was plotted against by the princess and was betrayed by her friend and husband and became the laughing stock in town (because she "cheated" on her husband).

Spoiler

Her husband betrayed her for power because the princess, , being the princess obviously could give him the court/imperial (?) power that he wanted and also his family members didnt really give a sh*t bout MC cause they were greedy and wanted wealth and power

[collapse]

The romance came REALLY slow though even though the ML and MC met really early because they were neither friends nor enemies

Spoiler

Even though MC"s actions of revenge sometimes disrupted ML's plans or sth I think

[collapse]

But the romance was really worth the wait, , at least for me.

MC was forced to marry the son of a general (or sth) because the general won a war and asked for the marriage as a reward from the emperor and MC didnt wanna be married again and also to someone who she didnt have romantic feelings for. Because MC and ML was kinda closer at this point in the story, , MC decided to bid ML farewell. (I forgot to state that at this point, 1. ML spared MC's life from the deal earlier on because he couldnt bear to kill her and 2. MC realized her feelings for ML but decides to hide it, , although its super obvious x3) ML then asks her why she doesnt want to marry and if she has anyone she likes, , to which she said she didnt wanna marry because she didnt like the other guy and because of her past incident (iirc). ML then asks her if she has anyone she likes in which she denies. ML then tells her that he knows he likes her, and asked her if she knew that he liked her too and AHHHHHH THIS MOMENT REALLY GOT ME ML is so sweet after they confessed and all, , also ML talked to the emperor the day before the general asked for the reward to be the marriage so!! ML is MC's marriage partner! Not the other guy!! Yay!!

[collapse]

The romance in this story is better developed than Malicious Empress. MC and ML are just acquaintances, then allies, friends and finally lover. ML is not developing some strange 'appearing all the time wherever MC is and just being a brat' disease. He'll stay silent, until MC asks him for help.

Yeah, this one is not as ruthless as the other novel. But after she finsihes her revenge, I'm tired of reading another conflict. Basically, we see how she deals with her body enemy that wants to kill her (her stepmother,... more>> and the other daughters). After this, we'll read she extract her revenge onto her previous life husband, his family, his lover. Then finally, the last conflict is of course the ML that involves the kingdom.

I cried a river for her father, and her brother. Though, it was frustratingly annoying how the author created filler plot for the brother's future wife. I mean, it's totally unnecessary to create a healer/poisoiner with her own big secret plot and matching her with mc's brother. It's a three in one novel. So tired. Not reading this again. <<less

My favourite novel by this author. In terms of story development and progression I like it even better than "Military Empress"
