Gu Jin, your average day-to-day worker, crossed into a novel as the supporting character and best friend and cousin of the female protagonist, Cheng Xin, who was frequently surrounded by men of status and quality. The two cousins believed they’d enjoy this friendship for a lifetime.

But soon, Gu Jin discovered that the body she had crossed into had memories of future events beyond the novel’s plot, including finding out that her marriage would end in utter failure. Her husband, the second male lead named Shao Chong, would neglect their marriage because of his infatuation for Cheng Xin. On the day that Gu Jin was kidnapped and beaten to death, her good husband stayed by her cousin’s side and accompanied her to the hospital.

When Gu Jin transmigrated into this novel world and learned of the truth, she refused to waste this new life as a supporting role for her cousin the way the previous soul had done. She refused to live her life as a spectator in someone else’s love story. No. She would be the protagonist of her own romance in this new life.

Yeah... I stopped reading after seeing how the family treats Gu Ling like she's supposed to be grateful she's adopted, but they know damn well the inequalities she faces living in the country and get mad that's she's (justifiably, I think) resentful. Oh and the constant ragging by the brother that she's not on the family register. Mmmhmm.

And yes, it's creepy that the ML keeps the jade bracelet. He should know he's in the wrong for sexually assaulting someone, even under the influence. Y U mad bro that she kicked... more>> U in the nuts?

Meh, I like that Gu Jin is just trying to make do, but darned if she didn't transmigrate into a shitty novel to begin with. <<less

Surprisingly, this is rated only 3 stars. I really enjoyed this novel and translation. I think it deserves a better rating. The main character Gu Jin was very likable. Some parts were very moving and I cried a few times. I recommend this to anyone who likes transmigration novels in modern settings and smart main characters.

A semi-long completely translated novel that you can read leisurely.

I will caution you not to put any high expectations on it because the author will drag you in but loses your emotional investment halfway, as you can attest to other reviewers. Why? The author introduces some promising scenes then leaves you with the aftertaste of questioning whether the whole thing was following any (good) plot or the ending was just rushed to conclude the novel.

The translator team is good with minor grammatical errors. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if many of... more>> those glaring errors were due to how the author wrote the scenes creatively but caused some confusion. Many orbital characters were also abandoned to the side without a good resolution. <<less

Hmmm let's see.. I loved the MC at times but then like I didn't really care anymore, it was like I already saw coming the ending and at times the arrogance of the male lead poked my nerves but not so much to say I hate him, in fact I think I quite liked him in comparation to jang hao or jing hao? I don't know and shao chong.

AH and the end of gu jin's cousin (chensomething xin) and shao chong left me like... heheheh you deserved it YOU DESERVED... more>> IT shameless scoundrels HEHEHE. And I didn't see coming the actions the hao guy took, like omg D.D it surprised me but I didn't feel pity. You reap what you sow.

I loved that the other soul found her happy ending though :) <<less

It's really good story I really enjoyed it. But why did the author ended it quickly.I really wish If there were some extra scene's between family especially between sh teng and MC and his scene's with their child. But I really liked this story. But the last chapter is not satisfying bcz if gu Jin reborn twice then what happened to other gu Jin and the entire story

I am writing this review after reading the novel twice.

It has that usual overbearing CEO, rich family, drugged ML and every other trope that these kinds of novels include.

But the refreshing point (for me at least) was that the story didn't chew my time out. Everything was sorted out pretty quick. One won't have to spend too many brain cells hating certain characters.

... more>> The MC was a fresh change of pace for me. I could relate to her logic and thought processes.

As for the ML, he is the typical 'I always have my way' person. There's no way of changing that kind of attitude.

All in all I loved the story, it's characters, the translation and the closure that everyone of them got. <<less

The translation was very good. I always love the translator translation and have been reading most of the novels she translated.

Story-wise, it was an interesting one but the ending was quite abrupt. I did enjoy reading this novel tho. It started pretty great and promising but soon it got a bit draggy and boring. Even the ending wasn't that satisfying for me.

A good story but with inconsistencies, the FL was cool and endearing and I liked her way of thinking. The ML was the cliché of the overbearing CEO but it was ok. The problem is that elements came out of nowhere, such as why the ML fell in love.

Short entertaining reading. Every aspect of the plot is great. But the part that got me the most is where we finally got to see what happened to the real Gu Jin in her previous live...

I'm glad that in the end the real Gu Jin got a chance to re-live her life and can chase the happiness she deserved :")

I finished this story in one sitting. I couldn't put it down. The story is standard at beast and the romance is typical.

For the readers who just focused on the 'mol*sting' part, I think it's a bit unfair if you don't read the whole story and comments like those are a bit misleading. First, there was no 'mol*sting', that encounter needed to happen to set off their story which apparently in this transmigration was not on the original. It was a bit off putting, yes, but story-wise that encounter was... more>> one way to go about it.

Anyhow, this is a good story to read when you need something simple and easy to read. It won't make you feel attached but it'll do the trick to stave boredom.",) <<less

I give the story 3/5 stars but in honor of the translators hard work I gave it 4 stars but definitely not 5. The story was very Bland and boring to me not really going to go into details about it. The story isn't bad but not really great its fairly simple for the premise not really that much drama, ... more>>

even the Male lead assassination attempt which was supposed to be the highest point of tension and drama was simple and really didn't give off emotion or feels it just... happened and went.

[collapse]
the ending was very rushed and awkward, I was so over it that I had to skim through the last bit of chapters just so I can say I 'Completed' it. I don't know if you don't have anything else to read and you're bored you can read this. <<less

I kind of like it, I don't know why the hell they put the r*pe tag in it, like MC was almost r*ped but she did fought and kik him in the balls and it wasn't also the ML fault cause he was poison and the MC end it up been at the wrong place and time.A lot of people dislike the ML but I don't really see why? Yah it was s*upid of him of 'trying' to get revenge of the MC just because she was trying to protect... more>> herself but he didn't really really the grudge seriously.

I know he did sexualy harassed/almost abuse her but stop whining like dogs, that happens in a lot of chinese books, wtf did u expect from a ML in a chinese light novel?

I wanted her to have revenge on the original female lead cause I hate her so much.

I only read the story for some drama so I don't really care about the ML but I did found him quite different, especially cringy everytime he called her "babe".

Any way I really enjoy the side story of Gu Jin ex boyfriend pov when explained how he felt miserable when Gu Jin died when she was pregnant with him and how he regretted hanging up on her, like if he didn't she could have survive and I wanted more, it may be short but this part was really interesting. <<less

I have mixed thoughts about this series, but they're mostly good.

I liked the FL and her character as she doesn't become overpowered by the ML and can stand head-to-head with him as a strong individual. I also enjoy the developments of the side characters as well, like I particularly found the progression of the selfish "original female protagonist" very gratifying. I even enjoyed the extra chapters regarding the side characters [ESPECIALLY THE LAST ONE].

However, I did find the timing and progression for relationship of the FL and ML to be... more>> awkward at times since it either progressed to quickly or the situation wasn't as well executed as it could have been or was just not appropriate.

Nevertheless, I did enjoy many sequences of the series and still recommend for a casual read if you're interested in transmutation romance stories. <<less

The overall impression was good, but I think it could be much better. I want to rate it around 3.7/5 if I could. The story itself is flowing smoothly, but there were some gaps or plotholes that were too hard for me to ignore.

MC's love with ML was started from lust.. I think. And then on, they get attracted for "real" because of their thinking and circumstances, but its hard to actually say so since the pacing in the romance section is abrupt and sometimes felt like it only happens... more>> so the story could progress. The finales gave some answer, but even so, there are few unsolved endings and character's fates that left me frustated. Anyway, for a light read, go for it. <<less

This novel is a great read in my opinion. It has some of my favorite tropes, a reincarnation into a side character (for once not a villainess) and taking charge. While the male lead certainly has some aspects of the "Cold-hearted, cruel, domineering" male lead we see in about 99% of Chinese romances, he is a lot more relaxed after the initial few chapters he appears in.

One big issue I have with the story though, is that it seems to make a dash for the finish line from around the... more>> beginning of the last third of the novel. And by doing so, a huge chunk of the established characters are basically left behind. On the other hand, we do get to see what happens to the the two most important of them in the epilogue to a certain extent, but it's far away from closing out all the minor plot threads surrounding them.

Additionally, the romance is a bit too out of left field for my liking. It seems to just come out of nowhere, perhaps because there is a limited amount of introspective thoughts from the female lead at least? Perhaps I was just not noticing any hints about her feelings.

That being said though, the novel is tagged with the "Drama" tag, but it's really not the standard Chinese dramatic romance. The little drama that does occur is usually cleared up within a few chapters. This can be a pro or a con depending on what you're after, but my current mood definitely appreciated that once some minor drama occurred it didn't lead to an inevitable misunderstanding that'd take a few dozen chapters to actually resolve. Don't get me wrong though, I love me some cheesy drama at times as well!

All in all, if you're after a more light-hearted modern transmigration romance, this is a great little fluffy tale that can be devoured easily in a day or two. <<less

I enjoyed it mostly because it was easy to read thanks to the translators. The story is not bad, but it could have been better. It's a quick and easy read if you don't want something too long and complicated. I suppose it's a bit more subtle compared to other romance / transmigration stories. There were some part of the plot that could have been improved, so I guess execution on the side characters were a bit lacking. Also I felt like ending was somewhat abrupt.

Spoiler

There are multiple transmigrators, and while that could have made the story much more interesting (when such was introduced it was, at first), the author made it seem like the person's IQ dropped to 0. There were multiple ways to improve the storyline, but the execution was just no good.

I'll be very frank here, I don't see why this story gets a lower score here than some of the other stories of the genre, even some of the recommendations, when some of the very same issues plague those exact tales, and in some cases even worse offenders.

Before I go into further detail I'll just say give this story a chance. I've learned that reviews aren't always reliable even if some points sound problematic.

For starter, it's a very light story, not much conflict or revenge if that's what you're looking... more>> for. The writing can jump around a bit, but it's mostly noticeable towards the end.

As for the 2 problematic scenes that people mention in the reviews:

Spoiler

Sure the first scene is something that in reality would be very problematic, but happens all the time in this genre and with much worse results. Here the scene resolved very quickly and the FL was sure to give back some pain. The bathroom scene was an attempt to intimidate and ML backed away as soon as FL showed some sign of discomfort (for a completely unrelated reason). The part where they agreed to date for 3 months in exchange for the bracelet doesn't include any sexual/intimacy demands, unlike many other stories. And this is also addressed further on

[collapse]

I like how the 2 tease each other, and how even though the 2 should realistically have issues concerning power dynamics they feel very equal in their interactions. There's no drama concerning it and it feel like 2 people finding a like minded person.

And as for the personality / descriptions of FL, if you've read a few stories in the genre, it's no more than the usual beauty/elegance/grace/etc.

In short, it's a quick light read. It won't revolutionize your world but it's a nice read. <<less

SO, after reading the many bad & moderate reviews, I'm giving this a 4

It's not that bad as it seems; +1 for the author to somehow foregone the typical 'aphro-r*pe-obsessive-love' trope to 'aphro-oops-will-not-r*pe-but-still-somehow-possessive-love'. All in all, its like the typical overbearing CEO with a pretend-white-rabbit MC love story.

WHAT I LIKE THE MOST IS THE MC.

Spoiler

it was implied that she knowingly manipulated Mr Mu into pursuing her by playing the 'slept with you last night & now our deal is over lets breakup' card, and I honestly think that Mr Mu just lets himself walked into that net willingly..

ML is so doting towards Gu Jin.

True to what some other reviewers had say, that the flow is somewhat like a stream, no big splash.. Well except for
Spoiler

when the ex bf was a reincarnated soul himself. I still wish him a world of hurt & regret

[collapse]

Although I feel that the conflicts concerning the cousin's exboyfie is not really solved and I hope the ending would wrap things up nicely.

Translation is good, with some rare mix-up on the characters names. (I love Kitty Jiu's choice of stories???)

So yeah, give this a chance, if not for the fluffs. <<less

Surprisingly, it was not bad. Although, it has like a dark theme and I liked it. Hope there's more...

Spoiler

I like the setting of the female led. Being kind, sweet, and crazy at the same time. And also her regaingin her past memories. I have this sort of interest towatds reincarnations/transmigration fics so I liked it. Especially the dark past where she had abortion, uwu. That was sad, but I felt like that was something that made her stronger.
