Daily Life of a Villain’s Mother

Description

Ye Fan suddenly became the villain’s mother after transmigrating into a novel. She fell into a scheme and gave birth to the villain, the son of ‘Film Emperor’ He Han who had no knowledge of having a child.

Ye Fan was a stand-in for a famous young actress, and the person she had to film an intimate scene with actually happened to be that ‘Film Emperor’.

The original Ye Fan abandoned her son, and when the matter was revealed to the public, she was completely drowned in hate by the netizens. Fortunately, the villain son had yet to grow up, and the ‘Film Emperor’ knew nothing about it.

So all Ye Fan needed to do was raise her child with the mentality of a buddha.

However, on the film debut right after an award ceremony, the matter of Ye Fan’s illegitimate child was exposed, shocking the entire net.

It was something completely unexpected.

He Han, the prince of silver screen, who had always kept a clean and self-conscious image had a press conference that very day.

“There is something I’ve been hiding from everyone. I have a three-year-old child.”

Wanted to read more, so went to a MTL site and finished it.
All in all, typical transmigration romance novel about a strong and determined woman who finds out she has an instant child.

strong points:

1) unexpected character info regarding ML
Spoiler

turns out he was a daddy long legs in their original world before he died and came into this one too

[collapse]

2) romance without the steam. This one is rather pure and the sexiness is more back burner, which I liked because it fit with the characters.

3) the bun, I love smart and obedient buns. Their too cute for word

weak points:

1) final confrontation with rival is weak.

2) no real character development

3) gets kinda boring and rushed after C110, like the writer just wants to get this over with.

Final Verdict:

Great light reading, fun and cute, but follows the format a bit too closely.

The story is good. There are some obvious plot holes and questions never answered, but they aren’t the focus of the novel. It’s a nice fluffy read about hardworking characters.

I didn’t understand why this needed to be a transmigration story until much later. I think it would have worked okay as an amnesia or separated childhood friends or one-night stand plot instead. The way it went down wasn’t bad, but I don’t think it was fully explored making the attempt at a deep transmigration story a little wasted or even... more>> unnecessary.

Worth a read if you like fluff and decent character development!!

Things I would have liked to learn or see:

Spoiler

Why was the second world a novel? Who read it? Why did Ye Fan have knowledge of it. Did the other Transmigrator also have memories? Implications seem to indicate not, so was their method different? If so, why? Was the first world also a novel?
Why did He Han never meet Ye Fan in their first life and stick to the secret admirer route? I feel like there is more to this story.

How the second Ye Fan actually did get pregnant with Dudu by He Han (the story only really talked about the cover story of ex-boyfriend for the media) ? The description made me think that she had gotten pregnant during filming of an intimate scene, but the first intimate scene the two had was when the child was already 2 or 3 years old. The ‘scheme’ is never mentioned in detail and there is no obvious person who instigated it. This would have been a good opportunity to develop a villain who hates He Han.

Did Ye Li do well overseas?

Why did Ye Fan never attempt to make a statement to protect Ye Li from the gossip?

• Do the main character’s competent assistants not have lives?

Any other relatives for some of the side characters or even main characters. Everyone seems to have a neatly pruned family tree.

Dudu older or as a villain

More development of the friendly characters. Ie What were Chang Su’s ‘vicissitudes?’ Where did Qi Shu (?) go?

Why does everyone work so hard? Dudu and the original Ye Fan of the second world have backgrounds. None of the rest, including two who worked to their deaths (dead), have obvious motivation to do so.

It looked interesting so I mtl'd and tried to get into it but I couldnt finish it. Too much filler for me and unnecessary plot. I am beginning to tire of all the extra that comes with anything set in the entertainment industry. Its an ok read but not for me.

Cute at first and had an okay start; the cliché 'i transmigrated into a low-level actress and is being suppressed'. The plot of one-night-stand-sure-ball-pregnancy was laid out too. Still okay, as the kid acts like a real three year old and was describe cutely. But plot wise, it was lacking. The story doesn't offer anything new.

ML was painted as a cold person, but from his actions it seems he fell in love too easily and on what basis? Their interactions consisted of nothing, but basic scenes. The words exchanged between... more>> them could be counted on two hands.

mc's past life was not expounded. She feels so out of touch and 2D. Musician (the overused piano and violin and the personality: im-probs-a-music-genius is dripped on her) and yet could easily act on her first few tries? Lol typical boring stuff.

after chapter 50, every chapter suddenly felt like a filler. There was no progressed with the plot at all. I've skipped some chapters and I have not missed any plot points which shows how irrelevant most chapters are.

turned out boring at where am I so im gon dropped this one.

kudos to the translator for a good job tho <<less

I liked it however there are moments where I’m like are they really in love???? The moments with the baby is cute but I feel like that is the strongest glue that keeps them together. I also find it dumb that the mother was like ‘ah yes I don’t feel any maternal love for this child I raised for years because I feel like there’s something wrong but I see this woman on screen and suddenly I feel that she is familiar.’ That is so unrealistic but then again transmigration... more>> isn’t really the most realistic thing out there.

The dads of the family are like gone. They are mentioned like twice and that’s it. There’s no talk about He Hans family apart from his grandmother raising him cause his mom died and his dad AWOL the whole time. Lol

It a good story but it really depends on your preference if you want to read the story and if it’s to your liking. <<less

A heart warming and fluff story that is pretty good to pass time with! Lil bun is really adorable~ like most reviewers said, he is not those super intelligent child or "adult-like" but just slightly more sensible and obedient! Unlike other novels where the lil bun is mostly forgotten when the romance blooms, this lil bun stayed and played a role in building MC and ML's relationship.

There are also some face slapping but MC is kinda OP?? so not much competition tbh. Romance is kinda slow so some may find... more>> it frustrating but those who like patient ML and not instant love would like this.

(huge backstory spoiler of MC and ML below!)

Spoiler

In the original world, MC's parents passed away in an accident and she was left all alone. She played the violin but could not continue after the incident. At that time, there was a sponsor who helped her through those tough times but they never once met. They kept in contact mostly through messaging and MC will always tell him when she's performing. MC loved that person and was comforted by him. However, that person disappeared two years ago before MC transmigrated to the current world.

In the current world, MC only cares about her son as she has always been alone and just wanted to take care of him. She is quite cold and neutral to others, as to our ML initially. ML was the one who pursued her first.

-

However, the twist in the story is that ML was MC's sponsor in the original world. He passed away after an accident two years ago and transmigrated. ML did not know who MC really was at first and only appreciated her hard working attitude in acting. Only after ML heard MC played the violin then he started to realize. ML has always attended her shows when she was performing in the original world and knew all the songs she played. He also kept a room filled with vinyl records of the songs after he transmigrated.

ML pursued MC slowly but MC still did not accept him even after MC knew ML already know that lil bun was his son. They just acted as parents for the child but not together yet. ML confessed to MC but MC rejected him saying she already had someone she loved for ten (?) years. That's when ML was like ten years?? isn't that me?

He realized but did not tell her his identity because MC was already overwhelmed with the fact that ML knew about the child. MC was actually skeptical about ML's identity but she did not dare read too much into it. However, MC eventually found out and confirmed it herself after she happened to see the room filled with vinyl records. After that, the sweet part starts coming. MC and ML both have a tact understanding and did not have any conflict. I like how they eventually got married and their relationship revealed at the end.

[collapse]

Some things I liked

Spoiler

MC's (kinda) younger sister Ye Li. Although initially she was rude to MC, she was actually following her mother's example. After she knew her mother switched MC with her real older sister, Tang Jin, she was sensible enough to know that her mother was in the wrong. She did not covet MC's money either.

ML was great as well! Although he knew MC had a child at the beginning he did not mind. He accepted the child even when he didn't know it was his. He pursued MC slowly and was understanding. ML's family was also supportive.

[collapse]

Some things I didn't like

Spoiler

MC is a little too OP. Idk if I missed something when I MTL-ed but a musician that is so good at acting???? Also her personality is kinda cold and she only shows her sweet side to the lil bun. I can't feel the character progression and personality from her. Only after she got together with ML, she turns to this shy girl. So 2/3 of the story MC is this cold and chill person...

Not much backstory on how the child came about about ML did not wonder when he and the MC slept together.

Also, ML is an actor but at the later half it's like he suddenly got so much free time to spend time with the child and pursue MC. His role from an actor turns to a baby sitter/love interest.

Tang Jin's reveal was kinda lackluster. MC and ML's relationship reveal has much more impact and feels.

Honestly, the romance was a little too slow for me. The child reveal was wayyyy too slow as well. The entertainment parts was kinda boring mainly because the schemes are quite typical. Ya know like those live broadcast to make MC look bad but in turn MC is so op and pretty and gains so many fans instead. Also some program testing contestants' acting and musicality etc... I skimmed through parts I can't take and persisted only because I wanted to see MC and ML get together.

[collapse]

Overall, a pretty chill novel with enough fluff. Stick till the later parts of the novel (around 100+?) to see our MC and ML together. After that it's mostly sugar and revelations. <<less

After reading half the novel, the only thing I'd say is, it's too plain and boring. Though I like the MC, everyone else is dull. ML is cold and distant, yet warm against MC and the kid. The kid is just too appalling, he's probably the worst kid I've read in a childcare novel. He's an adult trying to be a kid and just kept on asking for this s*upid uncle. The MC is a great character, a mary sue type, yet a bit interesting, but having ML trying to... more>> use the kid to get close to her, and her not resisting at all. I don't think this should even be happening, people like her would get annoyed if they are getting cornered, yet she just flows with it.

The whole story is just uncle trying to coax a kid to get into mom's pants or this girl trying to suppress MC. There isn't even any pressure at all, everything is just easy, and gets solved by mc's greatness. Other characters are friend or foes, the comments are just "this lady gud, and that girl bad". The antagonist are just people who are worse than her in every way, and the friends are hardworking.

The writing quality, plot, character development aren't really that impressive. The writing is just explaining nothing, to point out greatness and s*upidity. The plot, you'd literally know everything because the author kept on reminding you, the character development is just MC getting more and more perfect, yet because of annoying baby, getting close to ML, which shouldn't be the case. I think the story would be better off if the MC told the ML not to go overboard and create a line between them. This ML is just plain creepy, not a hint of sweetness existed between the two.

The dialogues for the most part goes ooc, it's plain and redundant, this is the most boring part of the novel.

I wanted to rate it worse, still I think some would like it, because of the slow pace, and the interesting MC. I neither like nor hate this story, I'd probably finish it and just forget about it. <<less

Very good.

Whoever said this novel is no good, should go ahead and read it again. Fluff. No angst. I love the bun. He is not matured. He acts like his age and very sensible. Both the ML and MC are also noteworthy. They never OOCd. The plot is logical unlike some say. Easy to understand.

I gave it 4 stars because there were still some details lacking. Figure it out yourself.

End of text.

It's not bland, but not too surprising either. Follow the same formula like every other transmigrated into entertainment world story. A kind of novel which you don't need to think so hard, just read and enjoy what's written in it. It's kinda fast paced in my opinion. But I love the translator's works, that's one of the reasons I continue to read this.

I really love this novel~~~

Finished reading it in two days. I really enjoyed every moments of little bun with his mother.

Dudu is such a sweet child... you cant help but falling in love with their family moments.

The MC here does not have golden finger or anything... it is pure of her hard work, luck and her previous life's experience.

ML is a devoted husband and dad... he really treasures both mother and child.

Please give it a try if you enjoy novel with cute baby!

This story is very cute, full of fluff to pair with the drama, and there is a clear progression in the feelings between the two leads. When you learn their pasts, the fact they're together makes sense and I was genuinely really happy for them. When two icebergs collide, it will feel hotter than fire~
Spoiler

I nearly cried a few times reading this, not gonna lie, but this is not a sad story by any means. Just some of the circumstances make me have the feels. Everything was tied up pretty nicely though, the villains get their due. Then, those villains are thrown away because in reality who would want to spend all their time dwelling on evildoers? The theme of this story is moving on with confidence after all.

Also, the kid here isn't a tacked on genius "little adult" character but an actual child and acts like one (OML WHATTTT, shocker I know). Their kid is an integral part of their relationship and has his own personality that isn't obnoxious but comes off as cute (unlike the kid in The Villain's Mother who gave me the cringe). Will admit I was a little uncomfortable with how OK they were with fans approaching him, but that may just be me.

[collapse]
I know the title talks about how she's the villain's mother, but really there isn't much villainy here on the part of herself or the child. It's briefly explained the circumstances that led to the child growing into a wayward son, but the story then focuses more on the backstory of our girl and her man instead of delving into the future that would have been without them there.

I got bored of it and overall it was disappointing. To understand it I must uncover some of the spoilers, so beware, if you haven't read it yourself.

We start with a very cliche "exchanged at birth" plot with fake and real daughter + I run with the ball. More or less it sums up the situation of Ye Fan, our female lead. She was exchanged at birth and her adoptive mother squeezed her worth all the way, in original plot she never knew her fate, but always longed for family... more>> love. She was also calculated due to her beauty, but she was lucky/unlucky at the same time, she went to bed with an actor and in the end her acting career had such a turn before proper start. She gave birth to a child, a cute son (so many scenes that describe the cute interactions, but honestly I got so tired of it, more detailed about it later). Ye Fan in previous life was a talented composer and knew many instruments, was talented in singing. She came across while having only small amount of money in her account, a child to raise and a job of a stand-in not finished. She took it upon herself to raise the child although she was not the one who gave birth to him, but she decided to get rid off blood-sucking relatives, finish her job and raise her cub. The fake daughter is the actress she helps in all her scenes where she doesn't want to shoot - fighting/action scenes, intimte scenes etc. This is how her diligent and acting career has started. Ye Fan is mostly portrayed as this mostly strong, yet vulnerable at time person. But to me some of her actions were weird, as if it only served the plot. Not to mention parts of this plot too had left me with so many questions~. But within her acting career she met ML, actually met on the first job as a stand-in, that's how their story was set sail too.

What made me feel strange was ML's reaction. At first you mght mistake his "feeling familiar" as if he remembered the night he had with her or smth like that, BUT NOT. It has something to do with their previous life, since he, same as her, actually crossed to this world and he was actually her sponsor back in that life, was the one who helped her walk out of the shadown of her parents' death and step on the road to success step by step. They had such a deep connection and you might think - oh, so romantic~. I wish! It was only "foreshadowed" in the first place with ML feeling familiar, there was no hint it has something to do with previous life and then BAM the revelation is like this and it comes like in half/later half of the novel. WTH honestly XD.

What really got to me is that if it wasn't for him being the person who guided her, she wouldn't have chosen to be with him in the end, although he was respectful, responsible and really liked her and was ready for anything, but then she told him - I have someone I like (it was actually him in previous life), but what if he wasn't that person, would you disregard a really nice and warm person like him? This part was created and written like this, but who am I to judge.

Next I'd like to talk about the third part of the family, their son. It will be short. There is enough water about their interactions between mother and son, but you know what? I don't agree with how she brought him up. Yes, I said it. Tbh the son at times was too dependent on her and it was a bit too much. Sometimes it felt as if something bad is happening, but honestly, no matter how he acted it wouldn't happen in rl, because parents need to work. Ye Fan chose such a profession and she compromised enough with not taking roles etc. which were in other provinces and countries. I'm not mad about it, but maybe I skimmed too much, but I haven't seen her actually explaining the importance of her work in earning for this family, instead of being guilty when she was living, if you're guilty then quit, stop being so moppy about it. Sometimes I think the novel had too may overractions. For example, there's a moment when her son gets sick, but she's on a show and can't leave, tbh the whole show also is too questionable (about it later), yet she decides to leave immediately, nothing is more important than her child. But he only had a fever. I'd appreciate it more if this scene was played differently, for example she had to endure torment of not going right away, since she knew the current predicament of being followed, not to mention that she took a car of other artist like never thought she'd get into trouble... and of course they got into trouble and later it was the starting point how the truth about her son was revealed. This reveal was disgusting, I know paparazzi are like this, but honestly her own actions made me angry too. For example, she was already more or less popular, but she never brought any bodyguard, which in the end could have saved her child from unnecessary trauma being beseiged by flashlights and annoying buzz of paparazzi. And also the following part also made me question the logic of it. She is taking and actor's route, he is also an actor, they have a child, a child who is old enough - he was born before she became popular. His existence was concealed - basically protecting his privacy, it should be logical.. Right? No, the whole network almost boycotted the two for their underground relationship and telling them to get out.. Excuse me, it was spiraled into such a shitshow that I felt as if either I don't understand something or if Asian market is like this (though I doubt it), then it's a sad thing. But of course a happy ending for them, they took other roles, came out of predicament and all is good. Though their romance is all about: FL - I have someone I like; ML - the one you like is actually me. They strangely find out about it, both are happy they can finally be together. The only really good thing about this part is they finally came together after a lifetime.

But the overall plot of this novel I find strange, especially I was really amazed by the shallowness of descriptions at points I think needed it the most. In the end I was really puzzled asking myself - where does her awesomeness comes from. because it was described it just few sentences sometimes, but the network simply went crazy for her.

For example, in the first role she had only few scenes described. Later she wasn't a female lead. Basically she was also supported by few variety shows where she "strongly" debunked pits dug by the bought out team. Later we enter the most confusing part of the plot - the variety show. Unlike naming brabds by their title (Chanel, Cartier), the plot created a superstar, a woman lnown as a legend who reached peak in acting and singing career. She had a bumpy life and there was anniversary of her death and a famous director decided to commemorate it with a grand movie, yet they changed the choice of actors and made it into a show. What is weirdest thing how it was played almost like a show that created a second legend like that actress, they wanted someone to come through different harsh tasks and live through similar experiences. Weird idea, but it feels like working, though I wouldn't think like that when it came to voting and later stages of this show which made me so questionable. Because half through a new bunch of actresses came in and they had the chance to take part in the show, but actually they were almost like airborne. One of them wanted to hype with Ye Fan, but was smeared into nothingness. Yet this choice of almost unrecognizable people, as if any cat and dog would do it really spoiled the effect of this show and made the efforts of others almost pointless. The show also lasted for a long time and takes almost half of the novel. But honestly, the shallowness of descriptions and jumping from here to there really didn't let me get too involved.

I though this movie when Ye Fan won the role it could be possible to actualy finish with it, this type of movie is an Oscar material (like for example if you watched Rene in her prized role "Judy). WRONG AGAIN. It was glazed that it did good in some festivals, also this was a period of her scandal, her recognition in this role kinda saved the scene. But actually the plot follows her to the next role, which was less explained, but for some reason her acting skills overcame her previous role and she got an actress and blah-blah-blah. At this point I felt weird, why would you spend so much on the show and it was overshadowed like this in the end. Author can you write normally?

Maybe my western thinking sometimes clashes with what should be interpreted differently, but I could not agree with many decisions made, some plot points and many other things, which made my reading process into SUCH A MESS in the end. Thus only 2 stars, I couldn't like it, not sorry. <<less

Whilst we have been seeing a lot of in-a-novel transmigration c-dramas revolving around the entertainment industry, this series is one of the few series that I look forward to reading each week. I love the characters and the plot doesn't overdo drama. On top of this, the translation is top-notch, something that some of us have come to expect from Kitty Jiu who translates a lot of Chinese series over at Wordexcerpt.

I honestly was starting to get tired of this type of book, but this one is both stereotypical and unique. I like how the FL thinks and how both the ML and FL are slowly starting to get along. I also like how the ML is starting to get along with their child without any thoughts whatsoever about the child being theirs. He just likes the child, and doesn't even know who his mother is. No one is jumping into relationships, and I like the personalities of the characters. The... more>> FLs personality is my favorite. Instead of winning verbal wars all the time, she instead keeps her mouth shut and wins through her actions. There aren't many FLs in most of the books I read that can shut down their opponent with at most a sentence or two. I started reading this because I was super bored and desperate for a read, but I'm glad I stared reading it. I binged it! <<less

I was about to reread this (Oct 2023) but gosh the translation is horrible. Even mtl is better than what was uploaded in that new translation site. ---
The mtl version is quite easy to understand. There are context clues.

It's an ok novel with an ok plot. There's really not much conflict and everything falls into place immediately. I would have given it 4 stars if the novel wasn't dragged out and the author just finished it around 120 chapters. It's up to chapter 145 in the mtl website and I remember thinking "when will this end?" while reading. So what I did was skip reading chapters 136 to 144 and just read the last chapter. The ending chapter was also a meh in my opinion. However, it's good enough to read through to pass some time.

Spoiler

You should skip towards the end chapter as well after the public started to accept the kid's existence. It starts getting really boring from there.

From this novel, I liked how they handled transmigration, how both protagonists were destined in both lives, and they meet again in their new life. What makes me tedious is that each chapter becomes long and boring when we see Ye Fan dealing with his day to day with Dudu, it seems good to me that they place how well they both get along but throughout the novel we always see how they put too many things everyday, but then you remember that the novel is about that, and you... more>> miss it. I liked Ye Sui a lot, but as the novel goes on, you see a cruel side in her, like the fact of revealing her true identity as a daughter of the Tang, I say cruel because, Tang Jin was also innocent in it. The game that her real mother played to change them both, it feels very forced how Tang Jin becomes bad just to leave Ye Fan as good, even as after so many years of raising Tang Jin as her daughter, just a few words why would Jian lan say that she is not his daughter and will take all the support from her, very badly played by the author. Another thing that the author overemphasizes is his love for Dudu, it reaches such a point that he decides not to have more babies just because Dudu does not feel envious of other siblings. But ignoring this, they brought us a unique ML, I liked how He has expressed his thoughts in the novel. <<less

Minor spoilers:

is chap 84 and no romance yet, they are basically strangers still. He doesn't even know the kid is his.

A good read, very slow paced story and also slow romance as I see no hints of anything between ML and MC.

also been a long time since I was frustrated by the plot. It was recently only because of some author's incapability to write anything that makes sense.

very long negative comments on plot with rather minor spoils:

Spoiler
    • First I don't understand why the MC had to become an actress, at first she wanted to cancel her stand-in contract and then ended up signing with an entertaining company after a single role. She was a genius musician and composer in her last life, She had absolutely no reason to become an actress when the only good reason she had was that she wanted to earn money. Nobody can tell when u'll be able to earn ur keep in the entertainment industry as even a character in the story said she was doing part time jobs beside acting.
This decision in my opinion makes no sense and is even a plot hole as no explanation were given (buzzing as a new actress isn't reasonable)
    • In the latest chapters I've read MC participate in a show focused on star's daily life in another country. The production team were basically bribed by antagonist's team to make MC look bad post-editing. Then on the first day something funny happens: they make MC keep the money for everybody and blatantly steals the money when she goes outside. Money that was in her individual room, secured by a locked drawer. What I don't understand after this is why the MC says she lost the money, even if they can edit what she says as long as she says it was stolen it would've been better. Money disappears in a few hours and nobody's fussing about it as if she really lost it. The problem is that on the same day they have a live broadcast with an event where they have to earn back the money. I mean she can literally blame the crew with solid arguments even with no witnesses, as her losing the money makes no sense (got money - slept 30min in room - went out to buy medicine for someone - comes back money bye bye). I also understand they could try to blacken what she says or whatever (live counters that tho) but the whole brushing over money disappearing is both s*upid and evident there's a problem.
