In a romance novel called “The Secret Lovers of the Academy” the male lead would often torment his fiancée–but wait, why did she cross into this world to become his fiancée, the villainess, instead of the heroine?

Louise Sweeney found the perfect solution to escape the misfortune of being the villainess: “Your Highness, I just want to tell you that we don’t have to be tied with our engagement. We weren’t even officially engaged, right?”

But what was wrong with the male lead’s reaction? To her suggestion, he replied “But our engagement wasn’t false, don’t you agree?”

It's a bit like a dating/otome game. I'm personally not impressed but I guess you may wanna read it if you're looking for something simple and 2D.

Dropped.

A standard shoujo fairy tale. As I said it's standard which you'll find many factors repetitive, which if you're repulsive to, please take a diversion.

Meant for R-16 as it is a sweet romantic story which ignites hope for a better future in the teens. It shows a slight glimpse of the meanness of the society without dwelling too deep into it.

It perfectly portrays the insecurities, indecisiveness, impulsiveness, the courage of youth and fear of an uncertain future.

Was cute for a while, but got boring. I love reincarnation otome novels, but they're pretty darn formulaic. After 77 chapters, its still sticking to the vanilla script, and not that well. None of the characters are even particularly likable or memorable.

I suppose it does one thing I haven't seen before which is
Spoiler

make the original heroine start to assume the role of the villainess due to jealousy, but its not particularly exciting.

A great novel with truly likable characters and character development that outshines many of the villainess novels out there.

The novel suffers a bit because of it's slow start. But people who started out reading it for the fluff are rewarded with a great story that, while silly at times, is really wholesome and gripping.

If you're looking for a sweet, romantic/fluffy, villainess-heroine, academy story that isn't too exaggerated, unrealistic, petty or s*upid, this is it!

The friendships in this book are what made me to give it a high rating.

The prince, cousin, and other student council members are very well fleshed out and well done. I adore the examples of brotherhood, sisterhood, and beautiful relationships that are portrayed, which were not without their own frictions.

But overcoming the difficulties and treasuring these friendships are what made the story much more memorable than if everything went well... more>> without ups and downs.

Spoiler

I was especially impressed by the love triangle part of the story between the prince, MC, and the prince's cousin. All three of them were bound by their strong childhood and adulthood friendship, but at the same time, these strong feelings of familial love had changed as they grew. Despite all the political conflicts, jealousy, and repressed desires, their bond from childhood remained strong and helped them overcome the changes between them.

The book is honestly like a breather after reading something heavy.

However, the interactions between the characters is always been my favourite moments. The MC and ML bicker a lot, it's more of a harmless bicker between childhood friends making it relaxing and heartfelt.

It also shows how weak the royal family can be despite it being powerful. For example, how the ML and his cousin (Simone) care for each other and have honest brotherhood, but can't be sincere with one and another due to the fact that their lives is more... more>> of a political stage for the nobles to prey upon.

Spoiler

When Simone was deliberately having his achievements supressed by Ian (ML), not because he wanted it, but otherwise his life would be in danger. Ian saw that, and he was upset about it, due to the fact he saw the real joyous Simone but the ML can't do nothing about it, even when he wants to.

[collapse]

The deep friendship between the 3 characters, their love and conflict can make you almost feel the whole thing.

The story also shows that ultimately your fate is in your hands, and even the author of your story can't change it. <<less

I'm like many others; I wouldn't give it 5 stars, maybe closer to 4 instead, but it has some very low ratings that I don't think is representative of the story so I want to help bring it up. Also, this cover photo is terrible; it makes him look like a pe*ophile to be frank, but she's just short. Not bad! Very fluffy and quite light, although I think it's starting to get dramatic. I'm seeing a lot of complaints about the character dialogue style (basically, whenever it's dialogue there's... more>> an icon of the person talking beside it) but personally I don't mind it at all; I don't think it's a reason to not read the story especially after you get used to it. Although it's a pity that some characters don't have pictures.

I also disagree with some earlier comments about how the MC doesn't realize. Sure she's surprised in the beginning, and a little upset, but she realizes the story is deviating. I think the story depicts a pretty sensible struggle of "I want to love who I love" and "what if bad things happen because the story is rocked at it's base? Or I get hurt because the original plot won't be deviated from?". A lot of similar stories don't really consider it as much, so it's good to see.

They're slowly realizing together that they like each other, so in that sense she's not a terribly dense character. He realized it pretty slow too.

Nothing about this story is terribly original, but it's still a cute read I'd say. <<less

Like what others have mentioned, it's a fairly usual otome villainess transmigration plot. Nothing special, but still quite cute -- the dialogue between the characters flow pretty well, the translation is pretty good and the artwork is absolutely gorgeous. That being said, the story does suffer from its predictability and I feel like it'd work a lot better as a manga rather than a novel.

It's good as a fluffy, guilty-pleasure sort of late night read, but probably not for those who want more plot.

This suffers from the problem of most of the transmigration stories of the genre, in that the protagonist doesn't act the least bit like a villain. Instead she's kind of incompetent, weak-willed, oh so perfect female lead who lets herself get bullied and goes with the flow. It's hard to imagine that she doesn't get completely trampled surrounded by the strong willed characters you typically find in otome games. She's just not a very interesting MC at all.

So far so good! Even though it's not perfectly translated, atleast I could understand what's being said. I would just laugh it off those typo's. Like couch becomes coach or at the chapter 46, the very first sentence "Why did her kiss her?. I was like "What the-? She kiss her ownself?! How is that possible???I actually love those typos as it would make my day so great!??

The thing I really liked about this is actually that its really different from all the same genre novels. The romance is not overly sweet, it is the right amount to make your heart flutter. There are actually lot of dialogues which are really rare to see in some novels making me so frustrated like guys how about some talk?I liked the female's lead's past part a lot like that was a bit feely. There are no jealous ladies going around bullying the MC and wrecking my ship which is... more>> really nice. THE ILLUSTRATIONS ARE JUST STUNNING LIKE AGHHHH DAMN I LOVE EM. There is actually really cute bickering and squabbles between the main couple which is actually really nice.I'm kind of done with all the doting but not any cheerful chatter and friendliness. Well so far I realky like it.I hope it gets adapted into manhwa <<less

A cute, cliche novel about a girl who transmigirates as the villain fiancee who is completely different from her novel counterpart and thus changes her relationships with every character but is completely oblivious about every flag she raises. In a fun counterpart, the Male lead appears to be oblivious to his obvious feelings as well.

This novel doesn't innovate but I plays its cliches well. The characters are enjoyable, if not particularly well developed beyond the main cast. Louise, although oblivious, does not obnoxiously try to force the perceived plot (beyond... more>> the usual surface attempts) and threats everyone as humans before characters since she's been in this world since young. Some may consider it "raising flags" but also speaks to her compassionate character and integration with the novel world.

Spoiler

Simon brings about second Male lead syndrome hard, I really wish they could end up together because the Male lead has the typical "bullying" love prevalent in these kind of novels

The plot is not really original if you already read "I woke up one day and realised I am in an otome game" novels.

Moreover, I couldn't find myself growing fond or attached to the characters. They are somewhat stereotypical for this kind of romcom.
Spoiler

A dense female lead who doesn't realise that the male lead is in love with her, and a male lead which will try scheme to conquer her without much success.

[collapse]

Another thing is that I can't follow the plot, or more like there isn't much plot. We jump from one scene to another without link beetween them and they aren't even that interesting. Just basic slice of light ? So, if you want something light to waste time it's ok but that's it. Nothing more. I dropped this novel at chapter 17, but maybe it'll become better later ?

Alright, this isn't a bad read, although I have to admit it was pretty boring at first, but I really enjoyed the interactions of each character so it get better I guess.

I have to say I was deeply touched by the trio's friendship. I mean, the romance was so cute and sweet but I was so much happier reading how their friendship stayed strong until the end, it was the ultimate happy ending!

The point is, the plot and characters are not so extreme, not that interesting either but then again... more>> I FREAKING LOVE THEIR INTERACTION ESPECIALLY THE TRIO, seriously their friendship is what makes me so excited to keep reading!

4 stars for the honorable childhood trio (+ the translator ofc, good work!) <<less

4.5 STARS: This was a cute and calming novel. There was no pettiness about it. Cried multiple times because of their sweet sincere relationship. I really enjoyed the protectiveness around the 3 main characters.

The things I loved:
The writing/translation: Was really good, especially after the last couple webnovels I read. It was the best one in dialogues.
The ML who isn't overpowered. He gets morning weakness, gets heartbroken. He is not a superhuman. That felt good.
Sir Hesse: Best character. The. Best.
Simon's gentleness: Cried for him. Poor child.
Chapter... more>> 109 was ridiculously cute!

Only complaint:
FL thickheadness about the novel she read before coming to this world. She was quite dense and obsessive about how the ML should love the "original" FL. Can't you see the relationships you built? Can you really compare the old Louise to yourself? What an idiot. Anyway. It was the only problem about her. She was cute if we skip that all that.

Extra complaint: The Ending

Last 20 chapters were quite... slow. I mean, it was always slow but you wait for a big finale that doesn't happen. But it was a happy and relaxing one. I didn't hate it. <<less
