I'm glad some people liked this novel and my translation, BUT... it's pretty boring.

I'm a fan of the setting and the prose, but the author just does not know when to stop chewing the fat and get on with it. Chapter 35 is when anything actually happens. 35! Why so long?! And then, as far as I can tell, it drags things out and repeats them ad nauseum for the rest of the 70 or so chapters...

Due to the glacial pace, I'm simply not interested in ever picking this novel... more>> back up. To anyone else that might eventually do so; godspeed. <<less

Sad to see this translation discontinued. ? I was waiting for more chapters to release before I started. I actually really like the story so far. The beginning was confusing and I still have no idea whether others knew that Zhongli Shou was/is a woman or not. But the heartache in this first part makes me excited to see how the rest of the story will unfold.

I hope someone else will pick this up to translate.

The start is jolty and confusing, and there are many flashbacks at first, were you have to differentiate what's present and what's past, but afterward you will reel in this great historical story and I promise it is good. I really want more?

*Slight spoiler, but great guidance*

From the last chapter I’ve read, I can say that this novel is developing well. I’m currently at the stage where the conflict is being built up and the yearning of the late emperor and current empress is at the highest.
Do not be discouraged by the religious aspects of the novel, while it does seem quite a big part of the plot, you don’t necessarily have to submerge yourself in it to understand how the story will go.
It is also brilliantly translated, I tried reading the MTL but it made my braid hurt. Thank you for the translation!

This novel gave me a very delicate feeling with a whole other bunch of confusing religious stuff. The author spent too much time writing how other characters and the MC builds the path for the female emperor to believe that the MC has indeed reborn. It makes me feel the same way as the MC has said later on about revealing her original identity earlier and not waiting such a long time for the preparation. 3.5 + 0.3 (superb translation, should have continued but it wasn't popular)

Very confusing backstory (Draft) 70% accuracy

I'm seriously confused about who is her birth mother as they swapped identities or something (they are identical looking half-siblings, royalty relations are confusing af). During her birth, her mother was poisoned? By other malicious royalty members thus the Thorn Emperor ordered to kill most of the other branches' heirs, leaving only her and her younger brother, Zhongli Mu (current Cloud Prince) in-line for the throne.

As the MC was in her mother's womb when the latter was poisoned, she has a sickly and frail body. She was raised inside the Cold Palace with her birth mother and was supposed to die at the age of 8 from falling from a tree? But her mother has agreed to do a life-exchange for her life, thus she was banished? To her ancestral lands or something. Wandering and gifted in blowing the instrument (Cheba), she became famous for her music.

8 years later, she was picked up by the female great general (Xuan Jingchen) in an abandoned temple where she cares for sick people to be the crown prince. Months later, she married the great general who has the prophecy of becoming the state's new ruler to protect her as many officials also feared the overwhelming military power in her hands. When she was almost 17, the MC inherit the throne from the Thorn Emperor by stabbing her after refusing to kill her crown princess.

She became the new female emperor and consulted her wife (the empress) regarding the affairs of running the state. Her wife has an older sister (Xuan Jing'an) and a younger sister (Xuan Jingning) who are later known as princesses of the state. Some years later,

during the rebellion war, she stayed behind and had passed the edict to transfer her power to her Empress who was fighting in the North and burnt her ancestors' tomb, dying together with it. Her wife came back too late to only see the burnt ending of the Chu state.

3 yrs after her death, she woke up in a frail body whose facial features shared the same similarity with her past self's face as they are cousins. Her elder sister, Yuezheng Ying, was schoolmates with her wife, the current female emperor. She spent 6 months to completely assume her new identity as a 'male'.

The story has some a lot of flashbacks from the past and focuses on uncovering the mysteries of past events and the hidden threat that exists in the story's current timeline. It was about the last 20 chapters where the story focuses on the female lead's strong suspicion of the MC's new identity.

Side stories detailed what happened after the MC was wandering for 8 years and missing out on their wedding night. <<less

3.5, actually.

It is a good and touching story that succeeded in making me cry a few times. The only downside is that it is pretty confusing at times, not sure if it is because of the translation or the author originally used such difficult words to tell the story.

The whole East Emperor legend is kind of cool, but too overboard. I could only enjoy the romance in the last 15 chapters or so.
