I was reborn as a princess in the world an otome game with memories of my previous life.

Wait, what? I’m the Heroine’s love rival? You’re kidding! I have no intention of falling in love with any of those pathetic guys, because the one I like is a support character, the Commander of the Royal Knights.

Except the Heroine, after being reincarnated in this shitty game where the support characters are way better than the love interests, is threatening to bring down my own life with flags, and I am determined to strike them down.

Contrary to reviewers here, I was absolutely charmed with the way Leonhard the Commander, and Rosemary's developing relationship unfolds. It was very clear that Leonhard is the ML, but while she's still under aged, he does not harbor feelings for her that are inappropriate.

Spoiler

Rather, it was only by the time she hits her late teens that you start to see his feelings develop into something more, but these are innocent hints at best, and I'm not kidding, she'll probably hit her late twenties by the time something happens at the rate he's going.

Their moments are very sweet, from Leonhard asking the reasons for each scar on her hand and calling them precious to him, to the shy blush he had when Rosemary was being happily bold; it was clear she has him wrapped around her little finger. She is absolutely heads over heels in love with him, and you just know Leonhard would die for her, platonic or not, so much I can't help but support her. I can't wait to see how he will return her feelings by the time she becomes a woman, not that she isn't already right now.

[collapse]

I've been reading about Chinese cold, possessive, r*pey CEO-type MLs for so damn long, Leonhard is a breath of fresh air with how much respect and adoration he has for our MC (in current translations) and something more later (in current raws)

Edit: Marietta-hime no Konrei is probably a very loose reflection of what happens when the two gets together. Innocent naive Marietta is utterly, UTTERLY besotted with her man twelve years older, though it would probably be less pe*verted. (The novel IS smut after all.) <<less

The story would be so interesting if she wasn't so obsessed with this man. Honestly the romance is really cheesy. She's asking him to be a lolicon basically even if she's "not." Her body is still one when she's asking for his reciprocal love. So conceptually he would be accepting a child body if he accepted it. Also, she's dumb in general, but that's okay because I expect there to be character improvement for that as the writing for that is good ish, especially with the other characters pushing her... more>> growth; however, there is no curing I think the cheesy writing of "oh he's so amazing ugh he is standing there with me ugh." Also, HOW DOES HE HAVE SO MUCH TIME FOR HER IF HIS POSITION IS SO IMPORTANT? <<less

I binged the entire thing in a couple days and absolutely loved it!! Please read it, especially if you're fond of transmitrational otome stories <3 It's a well written balance of humor, romance, and plot.

The female lead princess is loveable; she doesn't have OP powers but uses her own wit and resources to change her possible bad ends into good ones. All the characters are loveable really; her guys are all adorable! ≪3 The capture targets each have a really annoying trait in the original "game" (the duke is narcissistic,... more>> the prince is a siscon, the wizard is a necrophiliac, etc) but knowing this, the MC changes them bit by bit by helping avoid and work through certain events that caused them to be that way in the current timeline. Although each boy has a different backstory, their stories all tie in together well and the plot moves along at a good pace.

Many thanks to the wonderful translators who worked on this series <3 I hope to read more soon! <<less

It served as a decent way to kill time while I binge read up to the current release, but I don't think I'll be adding it to my reading list.

The first 25ish chapters (volume 1) are fun, watching the MC running around trying to prevent events that would raise flags in the future.

The problem is that the plot slows down to a crawl after that. From volume 2 onward, her flag clearing rate is at most a quarter of what it was before. Also, it's 100+ chapters in, and it... more>> hasn't even reached the start of the actual otome game yet. I get the feeling that the author started artificially increasing the number of chapters once it became popular.

The MC is also ends up as a bit of a generic mary sue. She starts off as being "focused" and because of the occasional time skips, it feels like she's waiting for the opportune moment to act. Once the time skips stop though, she ends up coming off as the usual "overworker with an inferiority complex even though everyone is constantly praising her" that seems to show up in so many of these otome isekais. Her inner monologue has a lot of great tsukkomi moments, but unfortunately she never says any of them out loud.

Spoiler

The whole "I can't say a tsukkomi line to this guy because he's a masochist and it would only encourage him" gag would be a lot funnier if she actually used those lines on other people from time to time... or ever.

[collapse]

Some of the side characters are great though, and get a lot more development than is usual for this type of series.

Spoiler

Except for the guy she's in love with because it would ruin his cool mystique.

[collapse]

The worldbuilding is good at times, and bad at others. It's occasionally suggested that the MC is multilingual because she spends some of her free time reading/translating old or foreign books. Everyone she meets however, speaks the same language. There are also times when she uses modern knowledge to solve problems that the average bronze age civilization could have provided an equally simple solution to.

If you REALLY like slow paced otome isekai, then you'll probably be able to enjoy this one too. Otherwise, wait a while and come back when the author has remembered what the original premise was supposed to be. <<less

A little girly and iffy in the beginning. Develops really well later on, especially after the wizard and the ship arc. Gives a lot of implications and perspectives into the characters. Develops the side characters fairly evenly. Except for Leonard. Honestly I don’t like his dynamic with the MC and hope he isn’t the ML but from where it’s going, he is rn. It starts out fairly similar to other rein novels but develops into a more thought out novel that really gives details into the mc’s feelings. Definitely a... more>> plus the more I read. <<less

The story is amazing. Unlike other otome game reincarnation novel, this novel felt realistic and make more sense.

The best things are our MC, she is naive and lovable.. But she is does things harder than anyone else in this story, not much rely on others. As isekai character, she isnt blessed with anything.. Just reincarnate to princess, and she's trying to be one with her much effort (and turn into a goddess by people later on). Other character also amazing too, most of them are clearly described and have realistic... more>> way of thinking, especially MC with her king father. In other aspect, pace are moderate, and world building kinda okay so its isnt really lack anything I need so tbh really enjoying this novel. <<less

Suffers too much from the "I'm an OP Mary Sue character, but since I'm Japanese, I'm all oblivious and humble and ppl fall for me shit." The plot was ok, typical for the genre... but the protagonist apologizes for every single f*cking thing. And every side glance at her, she thinks the worst of herself. What is up with the massive, massive, massive inferiority complex? So off-putting, and irrelevant to the story anyway. Everyone is like, she's a goddess! Too good to be a princess, the only decent noble in... more>> the whole f*cking world (no, she's not, but they ignore every other good noble and praise her to the heavens. Literally. They want to make her a goddess). And she is the most beautiful, adorable, cute, sweet, angelic, child in the world and her eyes sparkle like stars and her skin is white as snow and her lips as red as blood yada yada yada. And she's like, why is everyone staring at me? Must be because they're annoyed by me, I'm so disgusting. I should just f*cking go back inside so everyone can be at ease when the horrible horrible disfigured abomination that is me is out of their sight. I'm so sorry everyone went quiet. I entered the room, what a grave, grave sin. Next time, I should knock before entering, no wait, that would still bother everyone. I should just not exist. I'm sorry for existing. I'm sorry for breathing the same air as everyone. Brings a new cure and a whole village of doctors to cure a plague. I'm sorry I didn't do anything. I'm sorry for existing but not doing anything. I literally single-handedly cured a plague but I'm sorry I didn't do anything, not a single thing at all!!!

I really wanted to like this novel. But the more I read it, the more I was turned off by it. A third of the novel is just the MC (and all the side-PoV characters actually) putting themselves down. A third of the novel was f*cking padded by characters with their inferiority complexes. All of them. <<less

Chapters are super short.

The story is interesting and fun, it's riddled with clichés and common set ups and it follows your regular oblivious otome character.

But... it's got something, I can't quite place my finger in it... if I had to say it's the charisma of EVERYONE BUT the MC.

... more>> That isn't to say the MC doesn't have things going for her, but she's nothing special from others in this settings... the only real difference is that this MC is obviously pro-active.

She's got a shitload of good luck but she "does" stuff, she's not just getting dragged by the plot every instance... except when she is, but even then it's understandable, she's just a weak powerless princess... except when she isn't...

I would say the tone is inconsistent but the pacing is quite good although it's slow it picks up when it's important.

The characterizations drive everything forward, and the story is developing steadily.

What I hate... is the tease at the start of the novel

It's being so long and it hasn't being resolved...

I'm beginning to wonder if it will ever be resolved...

Well, at least... there hasn't being a "common japanese setting" for an arch where the author just didn't know what to write and decided to insert a "school" or whatever...

If anything... I am greatly enjoying the characterizations and developments, even if the story is a cliché, the way it's being portrayed is quite good. <<less

Looking at the good rating, I have high hope for a good read but...

This is uttered by a 5-years old:
"I'm already five years old. If we're talking about taking responsibility for my actions, I am capable of that."

While this, by a 6-years old:
"However... there is someone I long for." (regarding spouse candidate)

Maybe it's a translation issue but... yeah, no. I'm ick-ing so badly right now. I'm putting this on pause.

The novel is one of the better ones in terms of character development and backstory, I especially like some of the POV changes. Though the world building is a bit lacking.
The main character is pretty interesting, she isn't almighty nor behaves like the world is not real/just a game. She treats it seriously and realizes that she is powerless in some situations, gets scared from battles and other things that are still pretty normal for a girl of her age. Though most of the times she does show a... more>> mature side, which is most likely the result of her remembering her past life.
A very annoying fault though is that she thinks that she is worthless and apologizes a lot. She has doesn't have a lot of self confidence and doesn't know her own self worth, always undervaluing herself. I think that really gets old by the 10th time you see her apologizing for some small stuff while people constantly keep telling her that she should value herself higher.
This time the main love interest is actually a likeable character. And I wish that we could see more of him.
Imo the story did take a nosedive ever since she had boarded the ship and got off. I hope it gets better soon again. Because this arc is pretty bad. I'll give it a higher score if the next arc is good.

For now it's a 3.5/5 <<less

The story is good. The flow is great. Not too fast, not too slow. And the characters (most of them) are alive and are pretty likeable.

One thing I do not like much about this story is the MC's annoying internal love struggle especially with the Commander. I can understand if it's really a 10 year old having her first crush. That's how you react to your first crush but for crying out loud! She IS A REINCARNATED WOMAN!!! SHE IS OLD ENOUGH TO KNOW HOW TO DIFFERENTIATE! She irks me... more>> so much that I skip over her mistakes that happen over and over and over. I get it. She's unsure. She was given the options over and over but she's much too stubborn to even rely. Is it too difficult to ask for help? Zzz also, she's too fixated with her crush with the Commander and too fixated with her biases. I hope this gets better. Coz I can't stand anymore of her annoying emotional struggles that has clear answers. <<less

The writing, flow and story development is top-notch. It was highly immersive and I was entranced. In fact, I finished 102 chapters in one go and am continuing to read the raws. The story focuses on the protagonist's current life and her position unlike other stories where the protagonists heavily rely on past knowledge or emphasis on the crushing of these flags. It might be slow-paced for some but the content lends itself to the intricate world-building through these fine details. The protagonist is no Mary-Sue and understands her responsibility... more>> of being born as a princess. In fact, she is painfully aware of her limitations and has an almost inferiority complex. She constantly reviews her actions and does not acknowledge herself which is very relatable especially since every action potentially brings about huge repercussion that may spiral out of her control due to her position. I also appreciated the different povs the author wrote which allows us to understand where each characters are coming from.

I highly recommend this story if you are looking for a realistic otome Isekai or a finely-woven worldbuilding story about royals. It has a good mix of seriousness and humor, no wish fulfillment and no annoying/dumb characters. Each character is unique and flawed, very human. Definitely my favorite otome isekai along with Koushaku Reijou no Tashinami, <<less

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

This is a jpnovel that is just simple beyond compliments I could think of. The characters are superb especially their growth in the story. I like how the heroine is so smart too although what I don't like is how she's too young? I sometimes find it off to see a kid and a full grown man developing some kind of a bond.

I really liked this novel so I am writing a review.

Even so the world is a game, I think the people are real. The MC is not the best. All she did was from her heart so it was effective. The ML (the one I think is the ml) is not madly in love with her. It's not like the other otome world novels I read that MC has overly doting parents and siblings. Somehow she is alone (that's how she thinks) it's sad. But I like how it's a... more>> fantasy world, not a world with fantastic people.

Well I think I said too much. I just wanted to say it's a really good novel that I liked.

Oh! And THANK YOU AUTHOR!

THANK YOU TRANSLATOR! <<less

I will admit, I had expectations... and the author definitely overachieved. Unlike other reincarnation otome games, the heroine and princess of this story, Marie is moderately cute. It not like its so sweet it'll make you gape at the "wondrous" description, in fact I teared, grieved, smiled like a goof, and had verbal outbursts because of this novel. I may be over-exaggerating but the realistic plot is just that good.

The dear Marie also doesn't rely on her previous life's knowledge of innovations to get where she in, ... more>>
Spoiler

in fact it's only later in the story where the situation pressed for it that she reveals some of it... and sadly she doesn't want to rely on the dependable people around her. She also tell white lies that shows off the fact she isn't dependent on her knowledge. Aside from the fact she's a princess pressed with responsibility, she still is a relateable character when it comes to divulging her secret.

[collapse]

The Commander of the Royal Knights mentioned is also not overbearing, not a "puppy-dog" and the growing evolution of there relationship is well paced.

Also the terrible love interests in the otome game, are truly terrible. The summary lives to its name... there history and the reason behind there characters are acceptable. The side supporting characters are loveable as mentioned... hah... its better the read to story to find out what happens to these characters.
Spoiler

And mind you, Marie reincarnates as a young child before the turning point for the love interests ever happened, the "terrible" persona's of love intrests don't come into play as far as I know.

Why I liked this WN was because of:

1. The comedy it pulled out in the beginning to entice readers.

2. The fluff that came with it.

3. The MC.

4. The first WN that made me think that you really don't need to put OP or too much modern knowledge in order to make you enjoy the an isekai/ fantasy plot. Development in the end is important.

Gave it a 4.5 cause of how short the chapters were and how I feel that the otber characters just end up disappearing along the way.

Super cute! Semi realistic transmigration story, classic SI-villainess turns into shoujo heroine. Reading about all the characters interested in the MC is fun, and the MC is smart and dense in very fun to read ways. A re-reader for sure.

its pretty good if otome reincarnation is your genre of choice, but I dont think it was super duper good or anything.

pacing is a bit slow and I just dont understand why it was necessary to keep MC a kid? its super creepy especially

when she confesses to leon. like i... would not mind the ship, but 1. the age gap 2. shes a literal child. regardless of her mental age shes in the body of a prepuberscent girl, and especially as an adult (supposedly bc she doesnt act THAT mature) she should... know better than to be putting leon in that position??? lmao?? esp considering her position as well. but anyway

[collapse]

its a good novel if you have some spare time, I dont think it was that addictive though? again, the slow pace, and I dont particularly like the way she handles things, and although she is quite sensible and her blunt honesty is endearing, her actions are limited by the fact she is, again, a Literal Child.

however, the side characters are interesting though - the "love interests", her siblings, her family as a whole really, they all feel pretty distinct.

a good time waster but not a must read <<less

I find myself engrossed in the story without realizing, because the elements are (in my opinion) well though out or at least more so than the typical does-something-small-and-the-characters-all-fall-in-love. The heroine isn't entirely acting in prevention of her demise which I appreciate.

The only complain I have is how fast the pace the story is. Even a little bit more detail or elaboration within scenes would easily quench my thirst *cries
