Distance is a social platform that (just like other social platforms) can display the distance between parties. Ting Shuang had chosen someone that was 287 kilometres away from him, thinking that it was very safe. After all, when there’s more than two hundred kilometres between them, they wouldn’t awkwardly chance upon each other in real life, right!

Unexpectedly… The next night, 287 kilometres suddenly became 4.8 kilometres???

And even more unexpectedly… In the afternoon of the third day, 4.8 kilometres suddenly became 3 metres???

3 metres?????

Metres?????

I’m having a lesson right now, doesn’t 3 meters mean that the person I was flirting with is in the classroom right now?

Give me a reason why I should continue reading this.

A lot of people keep talking about how realistic it was but, I don't think that at all.

The pace is very unrealistic!

... more>> It confused me how they suddenly liked each other? They're already dating? After only a few dayssss?

I put myself on the MC s shoes and I just can't see myself suddenly liking the professor that told me not to go to class anymore?? Like almost ruining my graduation?

I once took a very hard test to the point I cried about it, which is not normal for me cus I don't cry about tests, and even now I still resent that teacher for putting an eyesore of a grade in my card. But the MC??? NO!!!

Their relationship is great, they learn a lot from each other like the MC is learning how to be mature and the ML is being more playful.

BUT

[
Spoiler

I can't help thinking about the fact that MC just went through a breakup then he talked to ML on the app the next day, then the day after the next they saw that they're close by, then they met, slept, and confessed? How many days did it take them??

The pace is unrealistic!

[collapse]

I just think this kind of plot is better if slow burn. I'm not much of a slow burn lover but I just get that thought in this story. It's just my taste, but I feel like they should've gotten to know each other first, heal their wounds, learn from each other, grow, then eventually get together. But we'll, I think this story is just not for me. <<less

This novel's first chapter was posted yesterday and I completed it in a day; it's that good. I was hooked by the summary + the cute cover full of hints and jumped to read the raws. I am so glad NU has such gems. It's so damn worth it.

Both the main characters have lived their lives before the start of the novel - their experiences, growth, and so much more - you come to know it as you read on. Their experiences can be glimpsed through mere sentences in their... more>> conversations. You get to know the characters at the same time they get to know each other. It's such a beautifully built relationship; from mere chat buddies to becoming fond of each other to lovers.

As you read, you can grasp the changes in their relationship. It feels so real, their feelings and their experiences. They do not fall in love at first sight, instead, it's the real deal; how it develops, how they come to depend and trust each other. Their relationship is beautiful.

Both of them have their shortcomings. The MC is young, youthful, full of dreams, with lingering childishness and immaturity. He's at the height of his youth. On the other hand, Cycle aka ML has already lived through what MC is going through, his life is that of a responsible adult, and this long life is where he lost his sense of meaning. Both of them give the other what they lack and complete each other; for MC, it's that sense of maturity and responsibility and for the ML, it's the joy of living and enjoying the moment. The amount of character development the MC goes through is insane, this can be considered a coming of age story as well.

Both of them overcome their problems together. I love how their love life isn't smooth sailing, it adds a sense of realism. Both of them solve these problems together and come to find a solution together. It's not necessarily a problem between them all the time, but external factors that must be dealth with.

ML is much older than the MC and that poses a problem about death (You will understand when you read). The way the MC comes to terms with it drove me to tears. This is one of the most memorable novels I've ever read.

Both of them have been in relationships, lived a life without the other, their past also comes up. It's so rare to come across something like this. Their interactions are so damn cute, the way MC teases ML and the way ML is indulgent towards the MC. Both of them respect each other's choices and always support each other.

This is the definition of a healthy relationship which is so damn hard to find in romance novels these days. I'm so glad I read this. ❤

The ending was so... cute, simple, and symbolic. Loved it. <<less

Really loved it. One of the firsts I actually finished raw (and not give up or read mtl instead)

The issues the 2 protagonists faced were quite realistic. The questions they raised were also thought-provoking, inducing me to reflect on my own life.

Their relationship was also very heartwarming and sweet. It's really the type of supportive love you'd want in real life.

The characters don't stay flat. Especially the MC. He grows more mature through the story. By the end of it, you can feel the difference between his two states.... more>> The ML also grows. You find out more about his thought processes, which makes him seem less of the unobtainable cold mountain flower kind, and become more relatable.

I like how their relationship stayed just as sweet, and it did not change in that regard despite their character growth. <<less

I went into this without too much thought. And I was caught off guard by how much I care about the characters and story as I read more. The writing have a sense of maturity in it. And I appreciate the details the writer took.

This story is about distance and growth. Literally and figuratively.

It took me a while to finish this, not because it’s bad, but I think I was trying to savor the chapters that I stop midway after some reading and went back after months later just to... more>> have sometime to think after reading.

It’s a good read. <<less

It was ok, lost interest around 70% into it or so. Nothing special in my opinion. The beginning was the most interesting and slowly it lost its steam. I like a older love interest and their relationship was as expected and not angsty but wasn't developed well enough...i still see MC as a lil brother to ML.. >_> I don't see anything special with the MC that attracts the ml... MC is literally the most typical BL fluff MC character ever... being all clueless most of the time and naïve.... more>> His character development was also lacking. very lacking.. I dont feel the chemistry.. the distance app was fun and all but then it went downhill.. <<less

SO FREAKING GOOD. This is probably the most realistic and well written BL novel ever in existence. Here we get not a Mary Sue, a shou with problems and worries like every normal human being and actually grows as the novel progresses. In the beginning, his personality was total shit, but he learns and fixes his mistakes and improves, along with the ML. The fact that they both were in serious relationships before they got together and they weren't each others' firsts made this more realistic. I really appreciated the... more>> fact that their feelings grew together and it wasn't a one sided pining like all those basic BLs, but a mutual agreement. Also, I really enjoyed how the author made school and work a big part of their lives, but their insightful talks made me worry about the future and if I'll even get into college and what if I disappoint my parents I mean they don't even know I read these things etc. There's a bit of drama in the latter half and that's when you can really see the MC step up his game and start acting like the son of a businessman. And the comedy aspect: pure gold. Overall, a beautiful novel. <<less

TLDR; MC is meh, ML is too perfect, felt like a mentor relationship with intimate scenes. Translation was A+

More like a 3.5, I like age gap stories (probably because my husband and I are 8 years apart, I'm older) but this story feel flat to me. Probably would have liked it a bit more if it stopped at chapter 60 and MC didn't act like he was 16 instead of 24.

I agree with curryninja's review. The MC was lacking and other than the intimate parts their relationship didn't feel like... more>> a love relationship, the ML just took care of the MC, which is what the ML's mom says he does for everyone, so the MC didn't even let the ML be spoiled. I didn't see how the MC was "good" for the ML. The MC didn't act like someone who had broken most family ties and lived alone since he was 17ish, he was very immature.

I also really didn't agree with the MLs (author's) view on education, if so many fail his exam he isn't teaching correctly and not inspiring them to learn more on their own. Not saying a class has to be easy but being proud that no one gets full marks is ridiculous. I never liked chemistry before I had this 1 teacher in college. She was super strict but she taught things until we understood it and would help us after class/during office hours. If you showed up to her class you would learn, and it was interesting. Her tests weren't easy but the only ones who failed were the ones that didn't come to class. I loved chemistry after her class and almost changed my major. She inspired us to learn and pay attention. The chapters with ML ideas on higher education, really rubbed me the wrong way

Translation was great, I don't even remember any typos, and though I'm not enthusiastic about this story, I loved how the translator was. <<less

Pack it up Ting Shuang; Bai Changyi is not your teacher but our teacher now.

Wow I honestly played myself.. I didn't realize translations weren't completed & I usually avoid reading anything incomplete. I fell into temptation & just MTL-ed the rest. It wasn't difficult to follow to be honest.

AH- this reminds me so much of Tattoo with both stories beginning with the end of a long-term relationship. The ML is mature, far from your typical case of black-bellied males eating nonstop vinegar. MC is short-tempered & somewhat naive, but I... more>> feel they're not shortcomings but rather endearing qualities that serve to show off depth. But really, the winner is the ML. I have a soft spot for the teacher x student subgenre & the fact that this was done so well makes me incredibly happy. The story as a whole, which revolves around our CP, is pretty realistic & I always hesitate to throw that adjective around. It's refreshing from your dramatic-filled, idealistic romance. This story resembles fresh, spring water. It's different, it's nonproblematic, it's not toxic, & there's always a sense of mutual respect between the two characters.

TL;DR SUPER SWEET & INTOXICATINGLY GOOD; PLS DO YOURSELF THE FAVOR OF READING IT

PSA: LISTEN TO THE AUDIO DRAMA BECAUSE IT IS GODLY <<less

OMG that was so good.

Really like the interaction between MC & ML.

The pace is good and realistic. A really good read. No big Up’s and Down’s. Just enough for a romantic/hot/steamy/cute novel.

Cant wait for more.

I like the concept of the story, however MC is not my cup of tea. MC is a straight up brat that’s also socially s*upid. He’s a university student and still goes around being unreasonable and throwing tantrums, he knows people don’t want to be around him because of that but still doesn’t even try to change. MC is the person most people IRL would avoid. ML is also kind of a creep tbh, not to mention he’s honestly an as*hole as a professor, the kind that would ruin your... more>> life for a certain period of time. <<less

Not to much possesive and controlled ML. The MC also not a naive and bully-able type person. Yeah really cup of my tea.

The plot build is amazing and hilarious. I love how authornim make this close with reality. The problem, how they solve it and lovey dovey state everything perfect in my opinion.

I just so grateful I read this novel really entertain me but also give me new sight of life.

Is it possible to love a novel so much?

Yes. Yes it is.

I never knew I needed this 'till I read it. I'm so glad that in my state of boredom of not being able to sleep led me to this gem.

... more>> Honestly I was very intrigued with the app of being able to calculate your partner's distance from you, since I've never used such apps before. To think there would come a day that I'd find that so romantic ugh I guess truly haven't lived that much lmao.

More than anything else though I'm so glad in being able to read the maturity of ml, and the progress of both their character's growth together. I've already been satisfied with the fictional relationships of the bl novels I've read to not care about my own, but now I can't help but ask for this kind of love *sobs* I hope many may be able to read this, I'm sure they would also come to love this. <<less

Mediocre is not even the right word to say it. It's not worthy, really, there's nothing here. NOTHING. "Wow it's a mature relationship", okay, but why don't they do others things that's not sex? It's boring, uninteresting, there's not even a basic plot. Ting shuang does nothing then keeping running behind bai changyi, like dammit!!! Do something with your life, he keeps complaining about the university and how difficult it's and that he doesn't understand the subject, but he doesn't study, he only works on saturdays, so why isn't he... more>> studing? It's too much for me! There's a LOT of novels better and shorter than this one, like The Heart Of A Smith (it's an incredible story), Fight The Landlord Fall In Love, Tattoo, Guomen, and Moumou that is slighty longer but it's way better. <<less

Your Distance is a story with a light theme.

The beginning of the story starts with fun, but after a while the storyline becomes a bit monotonous. But don't worry, because not long after that the story plot will be amazing again (Even More).

Well apart from the story, the most extraordinary thing in this story is lies in our ML Bai Changyi. It can be said that Bai Changyi is a typical ML who is extraordinary and very rare, whether it's in BL Novel or BG Novel.

The way he can be... more>> patient with MC's childish attitude, the way he can teach MC slowly without coercion, the way he has a very different view of life from others, the way he thinks far ahead.

Everything... Just Perfect.

If I had a partner like that in life, then I wouldn't ask for anything else for the rest of my life.

Spoiler

No wonder, Bai Changyi's ex-wife almost said crazy things about "What if they all did it all over again." Even though he knew that Bai Changyi was actually Gay.

And again I wonder about the rating... it's just mediocre.

The story is too inconsistent and there wasn't exactly any character growth but white washing and it even felt like switching personalities.

Let's start with ML which is set up as a gentle and steady character without much emotional fluctuations. Yeah and then he is doing his student on the second date and it's a hairs breadth from raping.

... more>> I don't get where their feelings stem from. There wasn't really close interaction.

Then there is MC with a rather easy going trouble maker character but also hardworking... but a son of a rich family.... but his father dislikes him for being gay so they fought and MC is living on his own money.... but still speaks with his dead.... but fighting... but totally nice and peachy when they meet?!?!? Uhm... yeah no.. it doesn't work this way.

Then there is that story u-turn around chapter 70... where this unreliable little twit changes instantly to a well learned super ceo son / james bond?!

And at the end he is back to being a dumb trouble maker.

Also the whole novel is strained and weaved through with the writer's Pseudo intellectual bs. Trying to be deep but failing huge.

3 stars at best. Wouldn't recommend. <<less

One of the best BL (imo) on this site. There isnt any angst between the MC & ML, and thier relationship was very healthy. They do talk; alot. Thats one of the good things about this one. But, it manages to not be too serious, mostly because Ting is hilarious.

This one scene where Bai Laoban says "Knowledge can't bend down for humans to reach. It's humans that should stand on thier tiptoes to obtain knowledge." I felt it. Bai Laoban really held Ting in the palm of his hands. I... more>> liked how Ting slowly grew confident in thier relationship. It was a worthwhile read. <<less

I've been in kind of a slump lately with fewer novels to read that I was interested in. Then when scrolling through my BL to read list, I saw this and checked the synopsis and glowing reviews again.

Then in one night, this story shot up to the top three of my BL novels.

I actually love this story so much, it's hard to express in words. Both the MC and ML are so beautifully fleshed out, so alive and so human throughout the whole story. I don't think I've read an... more>> MC yet that has been so relatable, so realistic. We're similar ages, both utterly lost in school, stuck doing something out of duty yet not knowing what we actually want to do. I actually just took a gap year/"quit" in the middle of med school but still have no idea how to get my life together and figure out what exactly I'm trying to do. I heavily respect the MC for actually having the courage to say f*ck that to his parents and get out and work himself to death to pay his way to school. I can't imagine how I would be able to do that. I guess I still have a silver spoon in my mouth even more than this guy. We're both coming out of recently failed relationships that we once thought could be forever, even though mine was 5 years shorter than his. The process of him receiving all that love and guidance from the ML, his insecurity, him growing from all his difficulties, it really brought a tear to my eye.

The ML is absolutely amazing. I had thought that I had been able to trust my ex with everything, but when breaking up I realized that I had never felt truly secure. I love the MC and ML's relationship so much because of how the ML was able to put up with all of the MC's fits and tried to resolve all conflicts. He was just so mature, reliable, able to mentor and help the MC in the best way while also not treating him as just a foolish child or trying to force him to change. Honestly, there's not much to say about him, I just love the ML here so much and love their relationship and how it grows and develops. Wish there was more at the end as they grow older.

This story addressed some very serious, yet realistic issues, from age to family relations to regret to finding yourself and coming of age. It both gives me hope in humans and also makes me depressed because of how perfect the ML is and how unrealistic it would be to find someone like that. Hope everyone gets a chance to read this to experience the sweetness washing over you and cleansing your mind and heart. <<less

Highly recommended for those readers, who like character and couple development. As a bonus, this one is wrapped in an alluring packaging of cringe comedy, drama, slice of life, and more cringe comedy - and that all is incredibly well translated. Thank you so much for your effort, ReallyDee!!!

I usually read fantasy & historical BL as my means of escape & relax, the farther away from reality the better. This one was too close to home tho, trying for a Master degree at a German university, getting hooked up with... more>> a bloke 10+ yrs older, even looking up the requirements for the marriage in Germany as a foreigner makes me remember the nightmare I had with the system...I feel you, Ting! Lucky I don't study robotics, otherwise I'd really wonder :p Nah, my hubby is nowhere near as mature as Bai. Again, good for you, Ting Ting!

Despite the obvious parallels with my own life, I have no regrets. The only, and a very minor complaint I'll voice is the side characters - I'd have loved more interactions between Ting and Bai's parents, or even between the in-laws in general. Even some more background about the Auntie and
