The story had some really cute and fluffy moments. If you want something that doesn't require too much thinking, this was a suitable read.

However, like everyone else, the ending was too abrupt and it felt like the author just wanted to end it.

From the beginning till the 2nd to the last chapter, the story moved very slowly. It centered on their daily lives, their interactions with their neighbors, and her family. It was very fluffy and nice but honestly? It was very boring because on how short the chapters are. In other fluffy novels they are also slow moving but at the end of every chapters, you can feel the progression of their relationship. Here, the development is after 2 or 3 chapters.

The ending was such a disappointment. It came out of... more>> nowhere that even the translator considered it a bad ending. It goes against everything the MC wanted since the beginning.

If you're going to read this, ignore the garbage ending and just treat this novel as hiatus and create your own ending. The only reason I didnt rate this 1 is because the translator did a decebt job translating this. <<less

Reading first 5 chapters my thought is "ah I found a good fluffy novel like assassin farmer". Last 3 chapter, "ups it's near the end even though there're a lot of plot unfinished. Maybe the ending will be cut, not minding other's problem". Last chapter: "Did I read it right? Is this from the translator? Is it only 70 chapters?"

Spoiler

last chapter is really abrupt. Only a summary for the ending. It's like: they went to capital, expose third prince scheme then told him that MC is reborn so this is MC revenge

[collapse]

I kinda resent the author a little bit, it will be better if you put hiatus/dropped than making a rush not make sense ending. <<less

I can't give it 5 stars because of the ending.

It looks like the author just got tired of writing the story and tacked on 500 words that amount to 'and they lived happily ever after'... only it's not really the life either of the leads wanted and we're left with a lot of loose ends.

Such a pity. But the story is worth reading for the first 69 chapters. Xue Dongting and Song Yuming are a really sweet couple.

Gave it a 4 because the story started off with a good premise. The first 69 chapters had fairly good pacing, characters were likeable and believeable, and there was enough plot intrigue to keep readers hooked. But just when the MC and ML were slowly building their relationship and the intricate plot details were all set in place, the story ended abruptly.

I'm concerned for the author; did they encounter an emergency? Why did the story end like that, especially in summary format? It just was really unsatisfying since everything was... more>> building up and there was literally no climax or resolution to the story. The end or conclusion of the story was summarized in the "last chapter" really quickly. It sounded more like an outline the author had in mind when planning the story than a chapter. But at least readers know what happens even if the author gave up on the story so no cliff hangers to worry about. <<less

Story was actually quite good, till it reached the last chapter when author just decided to close shop and haphazardly attempt to tie up loose ends in a third person POV. Such a promising, smutty story that initially showed some promise have met such an unfortunate ending from its own maker...

A fun rebirth ride - until the last chapter where the author basically wrote the ending in ten sentences. Main characters and side characters were on their way to being well rounded until - “the end.”

It was ok in the beginning, a bit slow and boring as it progresses. Nothing much happens, just some fluffy moments between the leads. Not much drama. However the ending is like a blade slash to the face, it was very quick, short and extremely painful!!! Not that the story ends tragically, it was just so abrupt and make me want to strangle the author for being so disrespectful to the readers! How could you just decided to end the story in one freaking chapter so abruptly??!! You are so... more>> inconsiderate and I won’t read anything of yours again! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 <<less

This was seriously a waste of my time.... like I'm still speechless about the whole fiasco at the end, and it wasn't even amazing at the start either for me like the FL was too childish which is something I'd rather not read I thought let's continue because the story isn't too long........

The end was just... sorry for my language : it was simply a big pile of bullsh*t and tr*sh that was hurriedly dumped.

I wish I had a time machine to stop me from reading this which push me... more>> now to waste a bit more of my time to stop any more victim from reading this. You have been warned this simply an author who thought of a beginning then forgot about the end, it'll even be an insult to even call it an end. <<less

I read this knowing that the ending is real bad and it really is but I was thinking it’s was just 70 chapters. I was hooked on by the interaction and fluffy-ness of the ML and FL. The storyline is very straightforward, no major ups and down but annoyingly some character just went missing when things should progress more even at the ending.

What really unexpected is how unexpected the ending came about. If the author were to have wrote this elaborately/more thoughts on this, I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be... more>> a very good read, spanning more than hundreds of chapters. Thank you so much for translating although the way the ending is written is so bad. <<less

I think the ending was written by a six year old. I'm positive.

Wow I'm sad. Every single potential regarding this novel was wasted. I'm grateful for the translations but I'm legitimately sad about this.

If I were to rewrite this the way I think it should have gone due to all the foreshadowing:

Spoiler
    • Second sister saves eldest sister's baby
    • The Mama Q dies in the baby's place the day it's born for "defying the heavens"
    • The wife of the squire makes trouble w her baby but the second sister helps the eldest scheme so the squire knows the wife is trying to harm the baby
    • The wife gets detention in the buddhist hall or something
    • The eldest realizes she can't stay here and protect her baby so the second sister w the ML help her escape w the baby through a caravan to another country
    • Make second sister worried about third sister who is the phoenix
    • Despite her efforts, the third sister meets someone but not w the donkey, turns out to be the seventh prince or something not the third prince
    • The third sister is swept off her feet, throws caution to the wind and leaves a letter before going on a journey w the seventh prince or something since he's building his power low-key idk
    • As the third sister is the phoenix, she helps the seventh prince esp after listening to all of the teachings of second sister and after the third prince takes power after the fake death of the seventh prince for some time
    • Bam the seventh prince comes back w the youngest sister and takes over (assisted by the military support of the ML and the schemes of the second sister as they get roped in when they get ship wreaked into a land where the seventh prince was hidng with the youngest sister)
    • The ML doesn't want the throne but is tired of the random assassins esp since there was 2 more close calls w the FL so he decides to help the sky seventh prince who really does seems lowkey smitten w the youngest sister
    • The youngest sister becomes the phoenix empress
    • and the second sister does support the dragon son to be healthy and safe as in the end they return to their fishing towns as the ML retires again, faking a leg injury
    • The end

it had so much potential; up till the 69th chapter la. and then comes the ending. it was so, extremely very abrupt.

too many things were left unexplained and instead we were given one chapter (more like spoiler straight from the forum) masked as an ending.

like binging on a show you came across on netflix without reading the summary and checking the episodes, and just when you reached the climax of the show, it turns out that there is no next episode available because the show is still ongoing.

excepttttt...... more>> this novel is completed.

really can't understand what author was thinking, if author continued writing this story diligently then it will surely be a big hit. I felt like author had many ideas for the plot, but at the end lost motivation/inspiration to continue and just decided to abandoned it and concluded everything into one short chapter. can't help but think something happened to the author in the middle of writing this novel.

so disappointed, it was going so well.

2/5, kinda feels like getting edged LMAO. 5/5 for The Sweeper of The Courtyard. our translator did a great job :-) <<less

I love reading the lead characters' daily life and I can read hundred of chapters about their daily life but suddenly it came to an abrupt end. The story is slow pace and have only 70 chapters so I kind of expected the sudden end. I guessed, maybe the author lost he/her motivation to continue the story but the ending was totally off-tracked from the original plot?

Both lead characters avoided the schemes and power struggle in imperial capital but the ending written roughly about how they both schemes and overturned... more>> 3rd prince on his game. There's too many plotholes that make me can't accept this ending. If this is a complete novel that write about all the happenings from beginning to the end, I can accept it because as we know, there's the phropecy, and Prince Yu certainly can not avoid the power struggle. As a prince he has to do what a prince had to do and to protect something he need to lose something. BUT, this is not that kind of novel and so I totally disappointed with the ending.

If the author meant to put the story to an end, an abrupt end, I think the least he/her can write is how the lead characters went out to the sea as planned, away from the capital and lead an ordinary happy daily life somewhere without a care what happened in the chaotic capital. Better not to mention about anything else unrelated if you don't care to continue more because it's only added to more questionable plotholes.

I rated 3 stars as I very much like their daily life interactions, the great translation and a light novel to pass time. Thank you for your hard work!! (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.) <<less

I am lost. I mean the story was good and then all of a sudden it ended. I don't know if the author just became lazy or something. If she wanted to finish the story at chapter 70, she should have just said that the two of them went to the sea, lived peacefully in an island, conceived three kids, and lived happily ever after without caring about the emperor and the capital. It ended abruptly with so many loose ends. My goodness. I read about this before but didn't... more>> finish it. These days, I had been thinking about a story of a fisherman who married a girl but I forgot the title. I unconsciously came upon it again and now I think of the reason why I didn't finish it before. It might be due to the reviews. So sad, this story could have been more. <<less

The story and characters were engaging. Honestly, it's been a great read, although the ending leaves a lot to be wanted. It felt like the author needed to drop off of the face of the earth or something. This novel could have easily been a novel with over 100 chapters. It feels like the last chapter was the author's rough draft of the plot. It makes me want to write my own version of the continuation of the story.

The whole story had a lot of potential, but it seems the author gave it up. Unfortunately, the schemes and politics are left flat with the ending. Actually, I can't even really call it an ending; the last chapter reads more like an outline summary for what direction the author wanted this story to take.

It's a shame because all the chapters before the last were done pretty well in terms of storytelling and plot, and even the side characters had a lot of personality and were pretty fleshed out too.... more>> The translation was great too!

For those who just want to read a sweet romance between a former imperial concubine, reliving her second life as a fisherman's wife, and a fisherman, who's secretly an OP character, I'd still give this a go for that aspect, because that part is at least written out and is done well (plus, it's a quick read with only 69 real chapters). But if you also want to go into the political intrigue and palace drama, be warned that this story does not play those parts out to their respective ends. <<less

It felt like they were just a few chapters short before finishing the first introduction arc when the author suddenly decided he didn't want to write anymore. There wasn't even a lead up to an ending. Ch69 was a normal chapter then Ch70 was just a timeline of events ending.

Story was good up until the ending. The MC wasn't some all knowing revenge driven mary sue protagonist, but just an ordinary girl who knew a few thing and wanted to be away from it all.

I do like the lovey dovey interaction between the FL and ML. Also, it's not so cliche like how they confront the problems.

However, I'm not satisfied with the ending. It's like it just abruptly doned!

If you like such fluffy cuddle couple, just read it and think that this novel is just unfinished. That's all.

The author appears to have simply decided not to finish this book. By chapter 69, the last real chapter, it was about a third of the way done in therms of introduced and unresolved plotlines but in chapter 70, they did brief summary of how it ended instead of finishing the book. The danger the older sister was in was ignored and not mentioned. The fact that the husband didn't want the ending that was tacked on last we knew was also ignored. Seemingly important characters were introduced and not... more>> shown again. Foreshadowing were also ignored and unresolved. The 'ending' wasn't just lazy, it was insulting to the reader's intelligence.

As for what was there, while there was some nice interaction between characters, the author created an unnecessary age difference and reminded us of it way too often. There was no plot reason for the ML to be almost twice the age of the MC. He could have had exactly the same life and still been 8 years younger, nor did the female lead need to be as 'legal this year? Marry her off!' even for as she was, given the fact that there was no pressing need for her to marry with her social status (in fact, it should have been more difficult to arrange a marriage) --and the frequent reminders of the age difference during s*x scenes was both squicky and equally unnecessary. Plus side, no excused r*pe here. That's uncommon enough to give the author a tip of the hat for that.

While the plot that was started was quite interesting and and the husband's genuine love for his wife and lack of r*peyness was refreshing, there's not enough here to make this worth reading in light of the fact that the author couldn't be bothered to finish it <<less

The story is quite good actually, the warm and fluffy relationship of FL and ML is the highlight of the story.

The narration of the author and translator is good too. But I think the author wants to drop the project, because the ending was soooooo abrubt and didn't have many conclusion.
