This is a 3.5 ⭐ for me.

Dropped this. First of all, I'd like to say that I actually like the concept of "remarriage" and the fact that she attained the same position after. I was really excited before reading because I felt like there's a lot of potential and I was real curious of how the author would approach the story. HOWEVER—damn the first half got me bored. I think the reason for this is because of how the synopsis AND the ch1 of the story. It was the scene... more>> where Sovieshu (son of a b*tch) is officially divorcing Navier and girly applying for remarriage. After that scene the main story starts. I was really hyped and excited to get to the divorce part that I felt so impatient. It got to the point where I feel like there's a lot of unnecessary parts, fillers. Sometimes it's okay and cute but too much of it is just... And the divorce part took 150+ chapters? And I felt like Navier and Heinley weren't able to properly set up that 'main couple' vibe. They're both barely there in my standard bec the whole time it's just both Souvieshu and Rashta (tr*shta) pissing the f*ck out of me and pulling off s*upid stunts. Navier isn't even 'romantically' attached or tangled or whatsoever with Heinley. She's more attached with the 'bird' so how do u expect her to develop romantic feelings with the bird??? To be blunt, it's a one sided love in Heinley's case. I felt like there's a lot of missed and wasted opportunities that could've reinforced them. Or the story could've got to the remarriage part earlier and set up the 'romance'.

It got fun after divorce. They're both exploring and getting to know each other more and there's a lot of cute stuff. BUT (again!!!) It got boring again because of the constant appearance of Sovieshu and tr*shta. Their sh*t just drags the whole thing and just doesn't sit well with me. In MY OWN opinion, they both don't matter that much anymore. Maybe Souvieshu's delulu moments and regrets about stuff were passable but constantly showing off tr*shta just spoils a lot of it for me. Of course I know that most of it is necessary to progress the story and come up with an outcome but I don't think it's for me anymore. So I think that it's okay for me to drop this instead of forcing myself to finish it.

About the characters. I do like the fact that Navier is mentally strong and stable character. She's dignified and always does everything by the book. She's smart. But she's also vulnerable at the same time. Her whole life revolved around training to be an Empress and after becoming that, she have to be efficient and high performance. I say, she's strict on herself because of the standards she was exposed at a young age. Also her lack of experience in romance and lack of exposure to different kinds of relationship shows. But she's hardworking and open minded whenever she encounter unfamiliar situations.

Heinley is like a puppy. He follows her around and her words. He loves her A LOT. But I think that his character revolved around Navier too much that there's a lack of personality (?). It's like he's only there to love Navier and marry her and that's it. I need more depth and growth. He's cute though.

Souvieshu this son of a b*tch. Navier and Heinley described him as a good Emperor but for me he's not. And it's not unnecessarily because of Rashta. It's because he's easily swayed by emotions. He oversteps his bounds as a ruler and s*upidly blames every single sh*t on Navier always immediately without going through investigations. He even twists the fact and his reasoning is just f*cked up. I mean dude? Seriously? Then he regrets. Deeply. Good. He's pitiful but it's his fault for being too calculative at first without even consulting on Navier. He said Navier is his partner but he didn't even told her his plan. It's your fault s*upid. I kind of understand his impatience for an heir though and also because of what happened in his past to be that sure of Navier's "infertility". He's just too proud and impulsive for not consulting his plans with Navier so when everything went off of his plans be starts to go batsh*t crazy. Lol.

Rashta. Do I have to say more? She's pitiful but goddamnit, no mercy on this b*tch. <<less

First, I should note that Translators did a good job. Thanks to them I was able to enjoy this novel.

CAUTION: This novel isn't about Revenge. It just narrates the life of Empress Navier and some important people around her.

MC: Navier - is a calm, collective and intelligent character who sees everything in a long term & a perfect fit to the title she owns, the Empress. She is a strong, determined and capable MC.

... more>> Plot is good, Character driven plot rather than a author driven ones.

Though plot progression is considered slow, it's inevitable. We can't have a major turn of life for Strong characters with so-so reasons....

Spoiler

[/spoiler

MC - Navier, The Empress - A calm, intelligent and an inspiring empress a country wish to have. A good colleague whom you can depend on any situation - and a workholic.

Due to that she failed in "lovely wife" aspect and sov (her ex-husband) not understanding her, even though they practically grew up together - is an unforeseen misfortune in her (& their) life. But People who understood her, starts flocking over her like bees over flower -Eg: Princess Sue, Grand duke Kaufman, Prince Heinley.... Etc

Sov, the Emperor (MC's ex-husband) - Though he certainly has qualities to be an Emperor, he acted more of a spoiled brat, when rashta got involved. His "new pet" syndrome is too severe. I really wonder what he learned during his crown prince education, at times.

Even after witnessing the dirty war which generally happens between Empress & Concubines - he brought a concubine and placed unreasonable requests and thus made arguments with Empress. He is idiotic. And everything went out of his control, before he realizes his mistake and reconcile with Navier..... Thus drastically altering (affecting) his and his people's future.

Rashta - a former s*ave (s*x s*ave?) to Empress of Eastern Empire. She had her 'reasons' to do whatever she did, though her mindless jealousy/ignorance caused many problems, whom to blame she didn't had a proper upbringing. Lived and grown with low lives, thus she accustomed to low lives habits.

It's a shame, she avoided good people's counselling in her Palace time. She had a chance to live a safe and secure life with dignity, which she always wished for.... Alas, she wasted it.

Heinley, ML - a calm, cheeky and cunning schemer yet has a 'good' side to him. Though he is devious and manipulative, he is 'true' to Navier and his lovesick tantrum were fun and refreshing for MC.

[collapse]

Bottom Line: -

  • Characters - are Good. Though they have some cliche qualities, they did have reasonable personalities.
  • Plot - It is a combination of cliches - love at first sight, s*ave X King love, turning into bird, s*ave to Empress, lovesick ML, 'Too stiff' FL..... etc, but it was written in a interesting way without much drags.
  • World setting - though not fully explored, its okay.
  • Character and Plot growth - Good. And lack of filler characters and filler arcs is a plus.

IM SO FRUSTRATED BY THAT TWO FACED HOE I JUST WANT TO GO IN THE NOVEL AND KICK HER A FEW TIMES

To the people looking for a novel with a smart and level headed heroine, this one is for you!

But seriously though, if I was the Empress I would have stabbed that white lotus ages ago smhhhhhh she doesn’t deserve this : ( ( ((

Plus wtf is wrong with the Emperor’s head???? Seriously, not even a dog would be that blinded by love, he literally excuses all the... more>> flaws of that b**ch and blames everything on the empress

I WANT TO VOMIT BLOOD, until now the Empress still hasn’t gotten her revenge YET : ( ( ( ((

Sorry for the rant, I needed to vent here QAQ but seriously though, this novel is well executed and the translator is doing and incredible job! Thank you!! Korean novels are usually really well written and this is not an exception, try reading this!!!! <<less

I had high hopes for this novel. I really did. But the actual story starts so far away from the prologue that its irritating. 50 Chapters in and still no sign of the plot getting there so I went and read some spoilers and found out that the action really starts at c80. I got to ch80 only to realize that the translators have been cutting the chapters into two. By that point I was just fed up so I decided to drop it.

The first chapter gives you the impression... more>> of a strong woman who gives as good as she gets but its not really like that. Navier is a doormat most of the time. One of the foreign Nobles actually straight up points that out to her but she's just like thats not how we do things in this country. Like hello?! Maybe you can't have her beheaded but you can stand up for yourself at least once in a while. She just puts up with everything the king and concubine throw at her.

Anyways, its a slow and extremely frustrating read. <<less

Finally great Korean novel with strong MC who doesn't choose scum and disgusting emperor. I actually want to give thumbs up to author, she know how to choose decent men, unlike other author who prefer rapist, scum, mu*der and disgust ML over decent, gentlemen.

Story is well written, romance is slow, patient waiting for more.

**Meant to give 3 stars**

I loved the novel in the beginning, I really did. I loved the way the characters were described. The dialogues were well drafted and I expected more. However, 100+ chapters into the story, and there is still no resolution. Why introduce the first chapter this, when the plot takes so long to get to those events. The whole love Vs marriage scenerio started to drag. I skipped a few chapters, still there is not much story development. I hope that the story doesn't drag more and... more>> we get to the events of the first chapter soon. Kudos to the translator for an amazing and smooth translation. <<less

I love how this story is unraveling and they show that even the person considered evil wasn't always evil. I especially love how they portray Sovieshu as a person who is not rational thinking, acts out of impulse and suffers the consequence of his actions anyway even when he tries to cover his tracks.

First of all, this novel doesn't have any face slapping or anything like that. The MC behaves like a true empress. She isn't petty. She bears with anything if it's for the sake of the empire. She doesn't do any obvious actions to put people in place. The only badass thing she does is remarrying another country king soon after getting her divorce. I feel the author doesn't showcase her talents much. She's just cool and smart enough. That's all. She's not OP in any way. She's just like a... more>> normal good empress, always caring about people and ignoring the sh*t of high society. Well I would have loved to see a strong female MC who knows how to put people in place. In that case, she would've dealt with rashta in the very beginning itself instead of letting the matter escalate so much. Although the MC is really plain, the novel is enjoyable to read until now, 257 chap atleast. And yes, the story progression is indeed slow.

Also I would've preferred an ex husband who is a complete tr*sh unlike sovieshu. Sigh he made too many scummy mistakes arrogantly but he truly loved, protected and covered for her from childhood. I don't like this. The main problem with them is, they don't sit and talk their hearts out. Even before divorcing, he won't explain to her about anything. Both of them think the other person isn't in love. Which is frustrating. This s*upid guy realises everything is falling apart only after sh*t hit the fan. What an idiot. He takes her for granted too much. They never try to clear their misunderstandings. It's good that they divorced but it still pains. They were such sweet and good kids in childhood. He truly had sincere feelings for her and so did she. But neither of them express it or rather neither of them knew it themselves how much they loved each other until the moment of no return. And they grew apart. Only he is devastated by what he had done and wants to get back with her coz he never imagined his life without her. His heart ached for her presence all the time coz he realised he truly loved her. Well, that's what u get for not trusting or respecting your partner. Now there's no second chance since she already has a loving man by her side. And I love the main couple uwu.. Heinley is so cute and so hawt <<less

This is a pretty good character piece, I think. All the characters are quite fleshed out and behave reasonably and understandably even when they're a**holes. The primary two antagonists don't really come across as being terrible just for the sake of it but rather because one is desperate and the other is... confused, for lack of a better word. I'll just talk about those two briefly since I see a lot of hatred for them without anyone mentioning what actually makes them good characters.

Spoiler

First, you have your typical green tea bit*h Rashta, a runaway s*ave either born into s*avery or a former criminal, it's not really clear yet and may never be addressed. Her only real skills are knowing how to manipulate men and make people sympathize with her. Not bad, but it leaves her rather unprepared to deal with actual politics and when this side fails it leaves her with no other cards to play. You can see that she actually kind of admires Navier and wants to imitate her, but Navier's attitude and abilities were cultivated over years and can't be picked up that easily. She isn't s*upid, but she IS ignorant, and it's a major hurdle for her. She doesn't even really seem to be aiming for much: She just wants to live a comfortable life where she's respected by the nobility and free from being abused. For a former s*ave, that really isn't asking for anything crazy. At this point, she isn't aiming to be empress because, well, she doesn't need to be empress to be happy. She just wants someone to care about her and doesn't really mind dragging other people down to bring herself up, such as her slander against Tuania or making Navier look bad. The son of a relatively minor villain put it best: You want to save her because she seems trapped in the mire, but when you get close you find out she IS the mire.

Second, emperor Sovieshu, Navier's husband. While early on it seems as though he cares very little for Navier, the reason for his affair is at least understandable. While rather selfish and hypocritical, there are a lot of points where he shows that he depends on Navier and tries to reach out to her only for her to fail to respond, which leaves him feeling unloved. Mostly because he is unloved. As he points out, he would like to have an actual spouse and not just a business partner, but Navier's feelings only rise to the level of friendship and trust, an attitude that slowly degrades until she comes to find his mere presence saddens her since he's always showing more concern for his concubine. But the concern he shows for Rashta actually seems rather superficial in some ways. Who does he open up to? Who is the one that makes him jealous even as her conduct is much less questionable? Who does he actually respect? Navier on all three points. And if he trusts her less, it's only really because he's been blinded by some woman who keeps telling him exactly what he wants to hear. And as time goes by you can see him gradually growing suspicious of Rashta. He dotes on Rashta, but Navier seems like the one he actually loves. But he and Navier aren't compatible because he wants things from her that she can't and won't give him.

I pity him, a little, because at best he's going to destroy his relationship with the woman he actually loves and will be left alone and loveless through no one's fault but his own. After all, even if he felt unsatisfied with his relationship with Navier, taking in a concubine was not the way to address the situation. At worst, he's going to go berserk and end up dead.

[collapse]

The story loses a point for being a bit slow paced and meandering. Was it really necessary to spend 87 chapters watching the royal family's relationship deteriorate this way? And there's no real end in sight either.

Edit: After checking out the raws I find it really interesting watching
Spoiler

Rashta totally lose her sh*t and go full on Caligula within like ten minutes without it even feeling like she's breaking character She's just going through a major breakdown after her paranoia and obsession with Navier and Sovieshu get the better of her and her old tricks don't really work anymore once she's an empress. It really shows the difference between wisdom and intelligence because Rashta is not s*upid, but she has no idea how to actually handle things or who to trust. Meanwhile, Sovieshu himself actually pulls himself together and is clearly deeply regretful of everything he has done and has finally realized what Rashta is truly like but... now it's too late. He's stuck with her.

[collapse]
During this time the stuff going on with Navier herself is actually pretty boring, but I think I can give the story another star. <<less

This caught my attention when I read the summary but then as the story progress it's get tedious the more I read. It's a slow burn read so if you expect a fast face slapping (like in some novels) then this is not for you (and for me... oops). The premise is interesting but the MC really don't impress me so far she's boring, also the characters and story development is almost none. I know it's a slow paced kind of story and it's still ongoing but it seems the... more>> story almost only revolved a story of rumors this and that, gossips here and there among nobles although some are not. The plot development? Well,... be patient.

Spoiler

... still I don't get with the high ratings, the plot isn't getting anywhere, the MC just like a dull mannequin... the rest are nah, gotta drop this click bait novel and what a waste of long and dragged chapters but still grateful to the translator.

So far so good. The author is good at playing with our, the readers, emotions. Look at all the hate filled emotion reviews! Like the other reviews, she makes it so easy to hate the to be ex husband and that skank! You will get so mad on Navier's behave, it's like we're her group of ladies who get mad on her behalf. And Rastha oh God, she's a mf-en b*****. Hate her guts to the world. I have no sympathy for her background. As you continue to read you'll... more>> also be like this little b*****. She sure knows how to play a crowd and I can't stand her talking in third person. You're a grown ass women and she's very aware of what she's doing. I'm just glad Navier will accept the divorce. I’m totally here for this, finally a fantasy that sticks true to the rules and obligations of monarchy. There are no Mary-sue, plot armor saves. The critical points make sense, even the main character’s dull sense of being makes sense. I love that the ex-husband is more than a one dimensional villain. There is so much complexity to their difficulties and feelings. No one is truly good and no one is truly bad, it’s the circumstances and choices. it's a happy story, right? With this in mind, it's easy to feel sorry for tr*shta: naive, former s*ave, in over her head. If only she was that simple. Spoiler

Currently I found this book and binged even the mtl translated parts so right now I'm caught up to the actual number of releases..

Despite my apparent fervor for this book, it's not quite giving me what I want satisfaction wise.

Inside of the translated version it takes around chapter 158 for the topic of divorce to even be discussed... thus for the previous 158 chapters (split of course) you have to suffer through an "innocent" s*ave ascending the throne as the empress and emperor who's delusions is probably as big as his kingdom. I'm not sure if this would be a problem for others, but my heart hurt for our MC, Navier. She had to deal with the white lotus constantly getting her in trouble (which most of the time she didn't even do) and the emperor defending the white lotus. Even after her re-marriage to the ML does the the s*upid emperor and the vicious empress try to harm her.

I essentially just wish we had more pay off with these characters instead of all this dragging around. The most I have gotten as remorse is the emperor crying saying that he misses Navier (while still being with the white lotus and excusing every evil thing she tries to do) and set ups to what is hopefully the downfall of the white lotus.

I might continue reading this book for now it gets a 3 by me.

The story so far (chapter 117) is basically one about a woman getting misunderstood and treated horribly by her "husband" all the time. I thought this was going to be a story about empowerment and overcoming adversity but none of that is happening. From the first chapter in the webtoon (I forgot if that's the same way the novel starts or not), the author obviously knows how much bullsh*t they're going to feed us so they showed us a glimpse of the divorce in the beginning as if saying "we're... more>> going to beat the crap out of this main character so here's a ray of hope for you to keep reading our stuff" and then they proceed to make way over a 100 chapters of a neverending cycle of nonsense.

If you're into stories where the woman gets treated horribly 100% of the time while some obviously cunning bit*h takes her place yet somehow, magically, no one notices not even the husband who rules an entire effing empire and he gets to the point where you doubt if he has an actual brain... well if you're into that then this is a story for you. Really love it. Wished it was completed. This was the type of novel that is worthy of staying up late for. I love how she just wants to have a peaceful life but was always ruined by rashta who knows nothing of aristocratic etiquette. The emperor must be dumb to let a girl who knows nothing of how the aristocracy works be his concubine. The emperor almost never consider his position as well as the empress position whenever he does s*upid things. Always insulting the empress and never let her... more>> explain the situation. Why? Just because she wouldn't bed him? And there is also rashta who only knows how to cry. I get that the author gave her a story so we could forgive her if only a bit but I just cant like her. Or not hate her. Why in the f*ck do you always cry? Like what the f*ck the empress do to you? You're always the one insulting the empress and not knowing your place. Even when you first met what did you say to her? Hey?? Who in their right mind would call the empress hey? I get that you were a s*ave but just how ignorant can you be? Even if the empress had no title rashta would still be below her. But then there are the blessings in her life. Heinely, the grand duke, her ladies in waiting, her family. I cant wait for moooooreeeeeee ✧\ (>o<) ノ✧

I read the mtl after the divorce. I'll list the things that I understood from the raws.

*The emperor was shocked after he finds out that the former empress was going tp remarry. Not sure why but he's not very fond of the idea that the navi will remarry heinely.
*The emperor ordered to find a law, etiquette, whatever it is that can stop the former empress from remarrying but the only way is to cancel the divorce.
*Of course tr*shta was so very happy that she finally became the empress even though the emperor didnt marry her yet.
*the elgy guy helps (i think) kind heinely and navi to escape since the emperor was so against their marriage. And from what I read he was planning on divorcing her and then marrying her again because of his child. I dont know what kind of lies tr*shta told the dumb emperor but he seems to believe that navi is infertile. Or maybe because he thinks they wont have children. Anyways he wants the b*tch's baby to be his heir or something.
*When the emperor hears that fled he was like "find her. Search for her!" And went crazy.
