Comparing this to Martial World is like comparing night and day. While MW might not be a cream of the crop novel, at least it has nice world building, character development, villain etc. But this TMW is just... why...

If you've read Martial World and didn't like it, you might just want to throw this novel into the tr*sh.

In this particular novel, author seems to have a tendency to drag the sh*t outta the simplest stuff while chopping some of the main scene. In example:

Spoiler

When MC arrives in a world to reunite with his wife, sh*t just gone south pretty quickly and it was dragged for like 15-20 chapters or so until he finally meet her.

While in the final arc, nearly everything just goes like "bang! bang! UPGRADE FOR ULTIMATE POWAHHHH!!!" and the final boss is killed in just like 4 chapters.

[collapse]

Also, just like what the other comments explained, author forgets important stuff that should've been explained.

The story is so repetitive that i've grown numb of it. MC arrives in a particular place, tries to be low-key, end up wreaking havoc instead. wash and repeat. <<less

Mixed feelings to be honest. Story was promising from the get go, but as I progressed further into the novel I couldn't help but get disappointed. I mean, at least the poignant dialogs were kinda fun.
Spoiler

The splash of netherworld river being unable to dissolve the face due to being so thick... yeah, some of these brought a smile to my face.

[collapse]

Nevertheless, here are some sad but, imho, important details for future reader.

  1. Hopelessly bland characters with zero development.
    Spoiler

I am so upset with how Luo Huo'er and Lin Xintong ended up in that novel that I literally just took off a star for that alone. I mean holy sh*t these Xintong's broken meridians were so promising but then this whole thing was just completely forgotten. Same with Luo Huo'er, truly... unique character, she just randomly vanished for 60% of the novel to appear in the last chapter. 2 promising chracters, both destroyed by the author

    [collapse]
  2. Loads of filler characters in every arc, which simply are forgotten once arc is done. And, I mean, its not that bad that such characters exist, really, its just how its all god damn the same, you know... he arrives to the new sect/place/whatever (new arc), there is always a daughter of heaven who scoffs at him for having lower cultivation than her, then he ends up shocking that daughter of heaven so many times that she becomes his zealot... until the arc ends, of course, so that he can move on to the next place and find... the next daughter of heaven!
  3. Tons of unfinished, unpolished and forgotten story lines.
    Spoiler

Ok, so lets start from the veeery beginning, shall we... Purple crystal couldn't have been more bland than it turned out to be. Anyway, yang sword palace, where he borrowed that god locking array? Never went back there. Yang broken sword? Never combined the broken parts. Divine alchemist, there was a broken array on cauldron, suddenly it all became irrelevant for some reason, never got fixed or mentioned. Mirage snow? Never lit the last 2 lights. The fruit he took from the tree in the ancient battlefield? Forgotten. Shura marks? Forgotten. Ugh... possibly alot more things, which I've forgotten about already

    [collapse]
  4. Absolutely disgustingly unpolished ending.
    Spoiler

Like holy s%#t, how hard can it be to make a decent ending after writing 1500+ chapters? Why does it have to be so rushed? There literally was just 1 damn paragraph, not even a chapter, no, a fracking paragraph or even half of it devoted to him breaking through to the Godly Monarch realm. Battle with the end boss was even more boring... It was so frustrating to read the last 50 chapters, srsly, SUPER disappointing, just like in Martial World, rushed, axed, super boring. depressing...

    [collapse]
  5. A few things are literally just taken out of MW, which makes the world rather boring and somewhat predictable.
    Spoiler

For example, those chaos stones, which he pondered upon and where he acquainted himself with chaos for the first time, the purple crystal chaos stone. Or this ancient battlefield thing with the monument where you leave your name

I really don't know why people seem to enjoy this novel so much. I started reading this after finishing MW, and I felt like I was reading through a worse version of MW that had twice as much filler BS. As with MW, there are 200 chapter sections that can be entirely cut from the novel, as they add nothing to the story whatsoever. I also couldn't find myself caring about the MC or any of the side characters (his lover and sister). I don't recommend reading this novel.

But, I... more>> guess if you haven't already read MW, it might be possible. <<less

Amazing start but becomes incredibly repetitive after a while, like jesus every single person he meets is an as*hole that he need to faceslap, kill and steal treasures from. I cant even believe this is the same author that did Martial World, what happened to the guy? He must have fallen on hard times.

Also the cultivation feels rather strange, the author makes it a point to always keep the MC just strong enough to be able to run away but never strong enough to crush all in his path, to... more>> this end he manipulates the mc's strength so sometimes he feels strong and other times he feels weaker, feels very inconsistent and unsatisfying. Some minor plot holes and forgotten stuff as well, not common but they are there. <<less

Typical novel that drags on with paragraphs of how awesome a move is followed by the peanut gallery whose thoughts should not matter half the time since they have no relevance to the plot. Arrogant antagonists one after another to progress the plot for new plot, new treasures for amazing right timing with just the right amount of power given to barely solve the current problem.

Romance is nonexistent. It is the typical ice fairy that is as*xual and aromatic, meaning, lacks any s*xual and romantic feelings, until the MC comes... more>> along. The female of course has to be pure of heart and body or she is not taken seriously as a love interest. This particular love interest after time with the MC loves to stay behind in the background, just looking like a fairy and following the MC's lead. She lacks agency of her own like most typical Chinese heroines.

On rare occasion, there is some humanity or scenes of emotional attachment that is more common in the beginning and fades quickly away in the latter part of the novel.

Pretty much, if you get that satisfactional high every time an as*hole gets his due or get that glorified feeling when our MC shows his badass side off, then this novel is for you. Keep in mind, these types of novels are numerous.

As for me, as gratifying it is to get that sense of high when my justice boner is stroked for that buildup over long chapters of dragging on, it is not worth it. In between, I want more depth and meat to the story and plot. The only reason why most Chinese authors have trouble keeping a heroine in the plot because they are nearly robots following along and staying in the background. So, the author creates a new female in the story because the development and interaction between the MC and the heroine is nonexistent. There is no interesting conflict unless she needs to be saved or wooed over, there is no growth for her as her own person and she typically just accepts and nods her head yes at every single action the MC takes no matter how dumb they are half the time without her adding in her own opinion. I am not sure if this is a cultural thing or not, .

The only personal growht our MC goes through is an increase in power as far as I am concern. His past life plays no real part other than to simply say his soul comes from a different world but hsi personality is more of one that grew up in his current world.

In the beginning, it was fantastical and at least imaginative like most novels start off as. Like a typical MMORPG, the game is ruined by tedious quests and sidequest that drags the story along. <<less

Honestly I read martial world for few hundred chapters I found it slow

True martial world at least seemed to be good paced interns of character strength development

So mind that it’s my opinion and I have read much of martial world... but will do so later when it is finished..

... more>> Though most of the reviews here is average to bad I quite like the story.

Honestly I think we should all get used to phrases like “courting death” or when bad guys says MC is not talented, it will come with all the novels and it will be the same,

What we have to remember is that each novel is a world of its own so things that happens in that novel (world) technically doesn’t have anything to do with another novel unless it’s a sequel or a prequel

Well I recommend this novel quite much <<less

This is actually pretty stereotypical xuanhuan - MC has OP cheat, uses it to trample losers and arrogant people, and becomes super-powered bad*ss. The kicker here, though, is that the MC is self-aware.

This novel has three qualities that make it a great, if not standard, read:

  1. The MC does not pull a Lin Feng, or Chu Feng, or any of the other annoying prick MC moves, and claim self-righteousness (and probably revenge, too), a need for women, or some equally flimsy reason as their motivational factor. Rather, Yi Yun recognizes pretty early that this new world he is in is nothing like Earth, and probably shouldn't waste time either bemoaning that or trying to reproduce his past, and instead should probably get along with staying alive and earning a better QOL.
  2. Rather than becoming an inheritance/skill maniac - one of my pet peeves - he actually focuses on insight, and the creation of his own moves, and the usage of his own knowledge. It is based off his OP cheat, but even then, Yi Yun acknowledges his own unfair advantage, making it a far cry from 'Oh let me use this one move I took from here, and this other move I took from there, and pretend like I struggled from the bottom, when really I have this amazing bloodline that lets me do all this skill usage and am blessed af'.
  3. This third reason is probably the most important factor of this novel's greatness - while some characters may be 2D, or discarded after a short exposition, the overall plot-line, and environment, is 3D. Granted, a lot of this 3D-ness focuses around Yi Yun, so it detracts 0.5 a star from the overall rating, but it's good enough that I don't get unreasonably frustrated with either the plot or the immaturity of the characters.
Probably best of all, there's no harem. IMO, a... more>> harem can be well done - case in point, King Of Gods - but 99% of the time, it's the sole reason why a novel is tr*sh. It contributes to denigrating thoughts towards women at the very least, and provides the 'r*pe Victim Becomes Lover' tag at worst. Granted, there is no LGBTQ awareness in TMW, but thankfully, the MC doesn't respond to his nether brain only.

Did I mention that the power-ups in this novel are sick as hell?

Characters - 3.5/5

Plot - 4.5/5

MC Attitude and Mindset - 5/5

Power-ups and Cultivation - 5/5

Grand Average - 4.5 <<less

Lot's of negative comment, and here's another one.

The author seems to love competition because the novel is composed of 80% competition.

It's fine if there are only about 1-2 competition related arc but there's more than 2 competition and it compose 80% of the novel.

The story is still interesting. But there's a lot of filler and repetitive description about MC and other things. I think purple card was described more than 300 times till chapter 1284. Yeah, a f*cking full description how awesome purple card is. And I think it was... more>> mentioned more than a thousand times.

The plot armor is f*cking thick, like the MC will power-up at the last minute of the battle then beat his opponent. Plot armor is normal, but getting power-ups at the middle of the battle is unacceptable for me.

There's a lot more negative review. But. I'm still going to read this since I started reading it. If you are going to start reading it. Just binge read this. <<less

Edit: I forgot to finish it like martial world and a will eternal. Considering the number of chapters left should i?

Edit at ch 1551: Rate it 5 stars

Recently, I picked out a few novels I had dropped before. As sadly, I was out of good novels with mass amount of chapters. I don't know if my taste has changed, or I have become so accustomed to bad novels that I find this quite good, or I have matured enough to enjoy the story then be critical of little things... more>> here n there.

What I do know is I thoroughly enjoyed it this time, and can't wait for more chapters. *Sigh* now I will have to wait a couple years again, to read it. Previously:

Dropped it and forgot at which chapter lols. The only three good things in this novel were Good Quality Translation and Fast releases of chapters, some awesome funny moments like the brick, and the romance which was much better then most of the stories. Won't recommend it unless you want to pass time as there are a lot of translated chapters to read 1000+. <<less

[Edit]

New rating: 2.5

I quit the novel somewhere around chapter 1150 - 1200. It just got way too repetitive. Basically you copy paste this sequence of events (the words I am about to use like "heaven" and "earth shattering" are in the novel) :

Spoiler
  1. Somehow land into another world through a series of lucky encounters
  2. Find some damsel in distress that saves him
  3. Help her and get tied up in her business
  4. Find out about some heaven sent competition to get unimaginable benefits
  5. Act like a ret*rd
  6. Become the dark horse
  7. Some earth shattering disaster happens and he stops it
  8. Repeat steps 1-7
[collapse]

I just gave up after it happened 3 times in a row. Rating before the edit was a 4, close to a 5. Now its a 2.5, probably should be a 2, but the fight scenes are alright.

Previous review:

The novel is okay until chapters 550 ~ 850 where the war with "certain characters" get waaay too drawn out. At this point I would have given the novel 2 stars, and I quit the novel and occasionally checked back on it. But after "certain characters" arc the MC goes to a different world, and ends up being OP there as well, but the entire story is ALOT better at this point. Right now the story is 5 stars. Although I recommend reading chapters 550 ~850, theres not a lot that you miss if you read a chapter every ten chapters at this point, so if it starts to get boring just do that.

Pros:

1. Pretty good start

2. NOT a harem (so far)

3. Great chapters after leaving the first world

4. Interesting/ important treasure that transports him in the first place

5. Translation is great and new chapters are updated daily

Cons:

1. Really boring chapters in between

2. Repetitive during this time

3. Not a lot of action until after the first world

4. Cultivation system not fleshed out well, and MC speeds through them too fast <<less

540 chapter and most of it is filled with bs plot stalls. Unlike martial world in this story; the writer loves to stall the story and write bs chapters that are about useless/forgettable characters and that aren't needed. If I choose which story loves to milk its readers I would say it's true martial world because most chapter is this story are useless. And if you've seen my other reviews you may know that I hate when a writer chooses to stall the story instead of taking a break. If... more>> you have the patience to put up with this bs, then I can recommend tmw, but if you also get irritated I don't recommend. The story decent, same with characters. It has above average world building. Which leads to me giving it 3 and thats only because translator, translate this story quickly. If this story actually had good pacing I would give a 4, but tmw currently does not deserve it. <<less

-1 stars for too much exposition. -1 star for another author that falls to the Chinese webnovel cliches of "he's backwater tr*sh.. He's not worthy.. This is one of my more preferred novels; it has a likable MC, cool cultivation techniques and a fairly well though-out world; that said, with reference to the 'world' aspect, it was much better before they introduced the 'Tian Yuan' arc/continent ~ in short, the initial world was one that you could actually relate to whereby the Tian Yuan world/continent was pretty much a Stellar Transformation trope planet/world/continent...

HOW TO READ TMW

Nevertheless, the story is very enjoyable............... but there is a but................ if you want to enjoy this novel like me... more>> and give it a four star rating like me there is one condition that you must do!~ that is ~ make sure that you pile up chapters. Do not treat this as a daily read. DO NOT! I have warned you; don't come to me later and say, "damn I'm sorry I didn't listen to you Ardy, "; it will happen!

WHY PEOPLE DON'T REALLY LIKE IT

This is a good novel and the only reason people give it 2 stars despite what everyone says/said/will say is due to the fact that they read this novel like they would your typical daily novel. They'll say whatever they want ~ "too many tournaments" ~ "too many 'OMG I underestimated the MC' moments" ~ etc. ~ If you do, like they did, you WILL BE FRUSTRATED!!! Also, if you binge read the novel, these minuses actually become pluses; they'll make your blood boil.

WHAT YOU SHOULD EXPECT BEFORE READING TMW

To make a long story short, this story is best described like this:
One chapter is dedicated to the MC brewing tea whereby the next two chapters are about savouring the tea's aroma and then finally drinking the tea (chapter 3).
Chapters 4 [and maybe] 5 are all about everyone shocked expressions about how unexpectedly/inconceivably good the tea was.
Chapters 6-10 or 12 set up the next mini arc [That will somehow or another be related to the MC improving his tea brewing skills /~/ About the evil & arrogant tea brewer with a better background than our humble MC]
...
Rinse and repeat. That said, this is only true after the First Major arc which ends @ about chapter 120. Likewise, every arc is about 80-120 chapters with several mini arcs within them.

Also, FYI/to be clear, there are no tea related chapters... this was just an analogy.
Lastly, this novel would be impossible to read without the amazing translators! ~ Expect about 1-3 chapters daily. <<less

You know I used to be a great supporter of this novel as I prefer it over Martial World which I found quite bland, the MC of MW is just a white piece of paper and that's it, to compare MW to something than MGA or ATG or the like is the perfect case just without r*pe as the world is very predictable the MC moves to higher level areas when his power level is enough to fight the strongest scrubs. And TMW it was amazing for the first 450... more>> chapters than the quality somewhat took a dive although I didn't find issues with it as I expected as it is a xianxia so I stuck with it and enjoyed it wholeheartedly as the MC being quite laid back is quite enjoyable but when I reached c1013 I just couldn't stand it anymore and placed it on an indefinite hiatus on my reading list I know that one day I would go back and finish it but for now after being caught up with it since the early 100s I feel like a break is necessary to recharge my love for this story otherwise I would likely drop it if I continued with these recent somewhat repetitive arcs although I somewhat regret it as the author finally started making more connections with MW I feel that a break for at least 2-3 months is necessary who know if I feel like it I might give MW another go since I am not a huge fan of it but that's only if I am desparate enough to read something but I don't think I will as I am starting to lose interest in cn novels overall.

***********************

Ver 2 of the review.

Spoiler

I understand that this novel is not perfect and that it has quite a few flaws, but it can't be denied that it's quality is solid throughout from beginning to latest chapters. The first 400 chapters can be regarded as one of the best things that could be read online, and although the following chapters couldn't live up to the first 400 and the quality dropped slightly, but by not too much, the reason that people complain is because they couldn't stand the fact that the novel is caught up to the author and hence quite a few negative points starts swimming around the novel around c400/500 but it doesn't change the fact that it's quite good and entertaining especially if you choose it as a daily novel.

yes also an issue can be seen with the fact that around c800

Spoiler

my and the heroine of the novel Lin xintong are separated and she still hasn't been found although it has been over 200 chapters

[collapse]

and like I said it has flaws, but which online novel around doesn't.

***********************************
Old ver 3 under spoiler tag, no spoiler for the most just condensed it.

Spoiler

Right I used to love this novel and still I really like it as it is very addicting to read and you basically cant stop yourself (at least my experience)

Focus of the MC pure yang and later gets a pure yang perfect body

because of certain reasons he starts sub-majoring in pure yin

his weapons are sword, saber and bow (because of pure yang element as well being heavily suited towards him)

the main heroine is quite well focused on ever since chapter 450-ish and she spends most of the time with the MC from then on which is nice that she is not abandoned.

It's not bad by any means, but the author follows the same repetitive structure time and time again. It gets boring. Introduce new villain, MC is too weak, MC either gets a lucky encounter or introduce someone that can teach him something new, defeat villain. All while people put him down and doubt him, only to then be shocked when he overcomes the obstacle. Shocked or surprised is probably the most frequent word in the novel considering it happens all the time.

The characters are ok, but the author can't for... more>> the life of him make any decent villains. Every villain is a spoiled, whiny, angst filled child. Even characters that have lived for thousands of years, act no different. We are told how intense the competition is in this world, yet one minor setback and the other character consider it a death grudge. The author usually butchers when the MC triumphs over said villain as well.

The translation is the only thing that made it worth 2 stars. It's structured like an english novel and there wasn't any parts that were unclear due to the translation. Only wished the author didn't kill the story. <<less

Same shit, different story. This novel is what thoroughly condemned any "same universe" off-shoots eastern stories presented. You can't write a 2000+ chapter novel (20, 000 minutes total) and either:

A). Make the impetus novel completely bland and repetitive, or;

B). Re-use the same plot hooks in the spin-off the original story produced.

TMW is MW lite. Hell, I really couldn't even recommend MW to folks because of how cookie-cutter and bland it was. Not that I still didn't enjoy my initial read since this was before some better novels released, but holy... more>> f*ckin' crap. TMW ends 500ish chapters before MW and still feels drawn out.

TMW has a lot of potatoes on the plate, complemented with tofu/chicken breast. Lots of calories with no substance. A completely unsatisfactory meal by anyone's standards - it's just straight up lazy writing. <<less

MW was one of my favorite wuxia, which I enjoyed throughly till the end.

Not to mention, I had a certain level of expectations from its sequel TMW also.. Guess what, it actually wasn't disappointing, In fact started with quite a good premise, building slowly with taking a few elements from MW.

Then comes mid-later part of the novel, When while writing it author joined quidian and simply forgots what exactly he intended to do with the story. An entirely ridiculous story consisting of fillers and face slapping only while also describing... more>> the how op our MC is.

There was an inheritance in MC's homeworld which was supposed to get after he grew strong enough, fun fact - he remembered it, but then just after 5 chapters, author decided it to be useless and soon forgotten.

The villain which was hyped throughout the story since the beginning of the novel turns out to be just an unkillable c*ckroach whose only only nemesis was our MC.

In short, a promising novel turned into garbage after author grew bored of it and decided to use it as a word count to money bussiness.

Well enough to say that later part of the story has no connection to other one except our op MC and some 3 other useless and forgotten characters. <<less

This is a fantastic Xuanhuan novel to binge read. All the chapters are translated (use a search engine) but what stands out to me is this is one of the few novels with an actual ending - 90% of Chinese authors end abruptly without closing plot holes.

This novel ties up all the important threads and the story is a fantastic read if you have read and enjoyed Martial World as there is a good chunk of cross over (but its not necessary to read MW).

Romance is a bit weak (long... more>> separations from love interest) but a lot of the other parts are really well told. MC is smart and the cultivation level ups are well spaced out. The cultivation system is logical and power scaling is understandable. Translations are solid and there are few plot holes.

It really is a solid read - if you like the MC and the characters around him you will enjoy this novel a lot. For MW readers, I found MW really drifted off the last 600 chapters but this novel at 1710 is just about perfect in length.

Again I'll harp on about it, but the ending is really satisfying as for once the author goes back to close up loose ends and ties up the story well - especially if you've read MW. <<less

I'm going to be honest, for about 900 chapters this story is a masterpiece. But after this it falls into the most rudimentary cliche sea where it will sink and never be able to regain its former luster. The protagonist is more or less the only good part of this entire story which by the end took the bullet train to the end. Fateful encounters and lucky chances start falling from the sky enough to drown the entire good part. The love interest was quite important at the beginning, but... more>> after that it became more of a reason for the protagonist power ups.
