Story is about a Rich arrogant MC that takes everything for granted, whales on a game, becomes ranked 1 player. He deletes the account that is worth a load of money, because he looked down on players that made money playing games and that it's below him. Fast forward a few years, he finds out his family went bankrupt after he got back from military service. Being poor and having nothing, having no college education, he turns back to gaming.

He talked a lot of tr*sh about how proper humans should... more>> get a good education and find a good "real job", but here he is working as a cashier with no college education. I have no pity for this guy at all, he had it coming and needed a reality check. My gripe is how meddling the devs/gms are in this game and that he was able to beat a player much higher than him at level one. If it was a new game, sure i'd believe that, but for a game thats been out for years, are you telling me that these players still play like noobs and the MC is the only player that starts a new character? Not to mention the player accepted a duel that gives the winner everything they had and deletes their account, what a joke, who would accept such a bet vs a level 1, are you telling me he's the first ever smurf and that nobody has ever intentionally makes new accounts to mess around/scam players by betting "winner takes all".

Not to mention, MC is the only smurf player in a game that's years old, with luck that rivals even the gods themselves. Gets op ring from tutorial, 1 of a kind pet from a low lvl dungeon, instantly liked by top vid editor because MC is one of the only players out of the millions or billions of players out there, knows top tier secret craft recipes, gets top tier rare skill books ect, the list goes on. This novel is unbelievable in so many levels.

That being said, the story is about how the MC starts over in order to support his family, on a game that is years old. Hit or miss, you're not missing out much whether u read this or not. There are a lot of gaps that isn't explained.

Edit: Decided to read 20 more chapters since there were so many positive reviews to give this another chance and nope, nothing has changed. The plot in this novel feels forced and unnatural. For example, an notorious guild would put up a rare weapon up for sale "cheap" just so they can buy it back later and starting fights with the MC because he "bought" his weapon, only to be wiped out or have their account "deleted" in another ridiculous bet. It seems to me this game literally revolves around the MC; uncontested. To readers looking for actual plot or character development, read something else. However, if you turn off your brain and loves reading OP MC mowing everything down and forced random plots, then have at it.

Inherently this novel is not bad, however with so many vrmo novels out there this one seems a little bit bland. First off he decides to make warrior as his first class change which wouldn't be such a bad thing if it weren't for the fact that the summary is way to short, and boring ; it makes me think the author lacks imagination. What makes this worse is the fact that the MC levels up way to fast, the game system gives him ridiculous stats through unrealistic interference, and... more>> him simply finding the items he needs like it no big deals make the novel reads like he simply going through the paces; which in in my opinion is not fun to read. Second off the dilemma of the author might be sad, however its hardly relatable to, and gives me very little reason to care about the MC struggles, and at the rate that this character is leveling up up, this shouldn't be a problem for long, and kind of makes the whole point of him having to level up from scratch kind of pointless. <<less

Plot is predictable, characters are either stereotypes of some sort or their personality is summarized with a single sentence. The dialogue in particular feels very stiff, same for the interactions between the MC and other characters.
Spoiler

An example of the stiffness:

' "Ah, Rain? I know him a little bit personally. Last time, I saw him before he was miserably defeated by you. He asked for advice. We have such a friendship. Why are you asking about him?" Mascherano replied. '

The viewers on the MC's stream are probably the most natural in terms of dialogue.
[collapse]

The worldview is basically 'casual gamers in a competitive game, except for the real pro MC'. There is also a huge lack of tension, even though the author tries to make it seem like there will be some, but everything gets either pushed back indefinitely or just gets predictably resolved.

Oh my lord. This was so horrendous I dropped it in the second chapter. The main character is so hate-able it's ridiculous. And, I'm the type of reader who rarely hates the MC, no matter what they do. But this one... It's just atrocious.
Spoiler

He's so... superficial. At the beginning (if I remember correctly) He went on some confusing rant about how he was so much better than these NEETs who play video games all day because he's joining the army. Then it was like oop, time skip now he's back home and not rich anymore.
And then he's all 'everyone hates me because I'm f*cking poor' I can't see anyone now because I'm not rich. Also, how did he not know his family was losing money? Maybe something was mentioned about this and I just forgot, but I don't believe joining the army completely cuts you off from society.
But that's beside the point. After he realizes that people don't hate him cuz he's poor, he's like "well now I need money to live, let's go back to that game." This would have been fine, and I probably would have kept reading, if it weren't for that rant. It feels like he looked down on everyone who played the game when he decided to stop, but then acts like nothing ever happened and goes back.

I wouldn't have been bothered by an arrogant main character, if his arrogance held up. If he stayed c*cky even when he was dirt poor and then was like, f*ck it get me my game back, I might've liked it more. But it felt like he totally collapsed like 'oh noooooo my money!'. It was pathetic to read, honestly.

Yeah, it was probably a more realistic depiction of the crushed pride of a formerly rich child, but I don't want to read that kind of realism in a gaming novel! He felt so pathetic it personally insulted my pathetic soul.

But I'd say the main reason I dropped it because I couldn't imagine anyone figuring out he was a previously a famous player satisfying in the slightest. How could he possibly explain how he left the game because he thought he was better than everyone, but then came back because he's poor, without lying by omission. And that was the deal breaker for me.

I read some reviews that the story itself was more satisfying, so if you make it longer than me, I hope you enjoy yourself. And, again, take this review with a grain of salt because I got sick of it before it got the chance to get better. And my memory is tr*sh.

The prologue is cringeworthy but it’s still fun to read after that.

The inside woman inside the game company is shifting the game to his favour by putting ridiculously hard challengers tailor made for him. He’s getting OP so fast he’ll catch up to the top rankers in 100 more chapters. I honestly have no idea where’s it’s going to go from there because he was already the best player in this game. He’ll just keep collecting more levels and money? Bully some guilds and solo some bosses? I’m definitely going... more>> to be entertained though. <<less

Should have been around 4.0/5. A bit early to give a review but I liked it so far. People disliked OPness of the character and the speed at which he grows. I'm personally too bothered. The description pretty much tells you what to expect. Of course there are a lot of better VRMMORPG but so far it didn't have anything damnable.

Of course, the MC is not super mature. Economics is just a figment of your imagination and OPness is through the roof.

Pros? There is enough internal consistency. Definitely a lot... more>> of the enjoyable VRMMORPG moments. Characters aren't complete morons. MC is quite likeable

If you think I'm rating this novel too high for trivial reasons, I think other low reviews have also been for flimsy reasons, so it's ok I guess <<less

I like it better than the other VRMMORPG where the MC has ESP, but not as much as the one with the old guy. while the writing has problems at some points, this story flows better than the first and the translation is very solid. I have a few issues with the MC's choices and motivation and question his intelligence in one or two situations as he bounces from being cool headed to hot tempered and back again with zero consistency.

despite it's issues, at least it's not boring, though ... more>>

I wish it would add more backstory and explain why the MC fighting power is so much better the others (according to his rw friend he's always been that way in other games as well). so did he do martial arts as a kid? or take lessons in a sword dojo? why is his basic technique and swordplay so much better than everyone else even at level 1? just claiming to be a 'game genius' only goes so far and doesn't explain his abilities.

[collapse]

there have been a few questionable moments and sometimes the scene changes are a bit abrupt but overall it's been a fun and easy read. a good novel to just sit back and enjoy (though I'll probably skip the first few chapters once I've stacked enough chapters for another read through). right now my rating is steady at 3.5

also...I STILL find the eyebrows on the bear in the cover picture disturbing... <<less

While I do agree to the reviews of different readers here, we can't deny the fact that it's quite enjoyable read, atleast in my opinion. Look, it's already given that almost vrmmo themes always make the MC an op, so I'm not surprised about the development here. One thing I just hate is the typical plot of revenge against his enemy (the son of the person who caused his family's bankcruptcy). It's so f*cking annoying that he has the tendency to fall for a simple provocation of his enemy. Everything... more>> is tolerable so far except anything related to his enemy. It took 938 chapters for this series to end because of that. I personally don't like long novels like Overgeared that has so much useless chapters and plots, except if the plot is so good and if it's done correctly. MC is relatively fast in leveling up his character which is tolerable but it's still took 938 chapters.

Well it's still an enjoyable ride and has it's own moments. <<less

Typical OP MC in a video game that will never realistically exist. I think it's a good read if you turn your brain off. The manhwa remake is much better than the novel.

so if you're reading this after coming from the manhua, don't, they actually fixed a lot, at least in the remake version anyway. The original, which would also include this novel, is a very hit or miss story either you enjoy it and don't like to further dive deep in between the lines of the story or not, because you just don't read just for OP MC kicks.

I loved the novel when it had a goal, an aim. Something that was challenging and hard to achieve. By chapter 300 it felt like the end. Id have been happy and satisfied. Now it's a dragged out boring piece of grinding. There's just no aim, he is literally the number 1 with number 2 far far far away. Only NPC's can be considered a challenge and it just doesn't work.

An extremely fun and good read, I do agree it has its shortcomings, but it is still a very good story that doesn't get boring.

Have yet to read side stories but overall it was a good read so far. There were two glaring potholes in stories but apart from that it was pretty enjoyable.

The things I feel were overdone were 1. He would always get exactly what he needed as it drops in hunt to the point that it was way beyond the explanation of plot Armor/golden finger of protagonist. 2. The NPC were supposed to be advanced AI but it's so advanced that they have multiple thoughts about people even behind the scenes.

Apart... more>> from that it was pretty funny at times, engaging and fresh story wise, references of popular anime and games here and there. Recommended. <<less

Contrary to many of the other reviews, I think this a well done novel. The story and power leveling progresses nicely, although like others have mention, he pretty much is able to level up/get good gear, skills, items, and encounters due to interference and luck. However, to me, I don't really mind that since it is still enjoyable to read. If you don't like overly strong MC to the point where others can't touch them, perhaps don't read this.

One of the things I like about the MC is that he... more>> is not a good person but he is also not a bad person. He has moments where he is able to be both, just like any other person can. Also I'd like to say some of the most enjoyable interactions are between MC and the Emperor, they are just so funny. <<less

was pretty abrupt, but I can still rationalize why it happened. I imagine they’ll provide more details on it later and how exactly it went down but it does feel like just a convenient plot device at the moment.

That said, I still really enjoyed the chapters I have read. I’ll try and update my review once more chapters are out. I do like the setting and for once it’s not a VR game that’s totally controlled by a super-computer AI. Others can actually interfere with the game, for good or bad. <<less
