ExR’s summary:

An average, ordinary university student had his first life burned away in a painful death from a fire, causing him to transmigrate into a prince of another universe. However, never did he expected that his younger brother, who he fiercely protected and ultimately brought to the throne, would be the one to betray him. Upon being on the brink of death after suffering three years of torture, he was thrown into a river.

Scarred physically and mentally, he ended up being washed up at an eccentric yet peaceful place he had never heard of before. Having nowhere to go, he began working as a helper in the government office, apathetic about his life.

Will he be able to heal from his traumas and rediscover the beauty of life?

Tldr: A healing story of a transmigrator who slowly recovers from his trauma, finding happiness and fluffy romance in a strange yet peaceful place.

Author’s summary:

An average, normal university student transmigrates into the royal family in another world, where he becomes one of the successors of the throne. Life in the palace is inevitably difficult though, what with all the scheming enemies around him. This man’s only wish in this world is to be able to protect his “younger brother,” and for that, he’ll do anything–whether by hook or by crook–to ensure his brother’s safety and have him succeed the throne.

The man never once expected, though, that the person whom he swears to protect would be the one to stab him in the back. He got locked in a dungeon where he was tortured for three years. And when he was on the brink of death, his body was thrown away into the river.

When he wakes up, he finds himself in an eccentric and peaceful place, where everyone is suspiciously more than what they seem…

Short and sweet. Everything I love about this is just that. Been a while since I finish a book. A slow burn love which is so sweet towards the end and the MC is so cute with his thoughts. I want books that are less than 100 or 130 chapter. I get distracted once its too long and this book is simply sweet and short and says what it needs..... Do give it a chance to be on your list.

This is one of the best bl novels out there. The MC has a tortured passed which led to his face being disfigured but the ML helps with the healing process and he comes to accept himself. The relationship between the MC and ML is lovely and sweet.

(4/5) Despite the traumatic past that the MC suffered, this was a heartwarming story about a person trying to heal from their wounds. It was a calming experience, watching the MC living hopelessly depressed to finding something that he wants to live for at the end of the story. I wished the author elaborated more about the MC's past life since it got brushed off pretty fast. The story behind when he tried to fight for the throne for his brother wasn't really explored. The romance between the MC... more>> and ML was slow yet sweet, but the heartwarming community also helped with the MC healing process.

Spoiler

The relationship felt realistic. The MC and ML didn't have instant love at first sight, It took about 5 years until the MC started to reciprocate his feelings for the ML. It made a lot of sense because the MC was betrayed by the person closest to him so he has trust issues. That can't be resolved that fast, it takes time to heal. The ML also had a difficult past since he was trained to be bloodthirsty. His mother even took medicine to wipe her memories of her son. The ML thinks both of his parents are dead though. When the MC and ML were visiting a village the ML just started killing strangers randomly and this caused the MC's PTSD from being tortured flare-up. He was scared of the ML because of how easily he killed people without any regard. Despite this, MC still accepted ML as who he is, just like how the ML dotes on MC. It's a story of two broken people finding solace in each other. The mystery about the Gu Ting was anti-climatic, it was some village that the first Emporer M0 created. Apparently, they have a special bloodline and they regard normal humans as useless. MC's brother committed su*cide in the MC's old house, maybe he felt regret and realized that only the MC truly cared about him.

[collapse]

The reason I gave it four stars was the ending felt abrupt, it just ended without a firm conclusion. The side characters weren't that fleshed out and it leads to questioning what happened to them. Some side characters mentioned at the beginning of the story don't appear at the end of the story. There are also some plot holes.

Spoiler

If the people living in Gu Ting were so OP why was the government so sus? Like they were broke and barely had enough food, but that was solved when the MC stepped up and used his business powers. The world-building was confusing. There were some mystical animals and magic powers. How does the magic power even work and does everyone in Gu Ting have It or is it just the ML? These are just some questions that I had after reading it

[collapse]

It's a calming and fast read if you want to read something wholesome without much drama clock blocking the relationship. I just feel the story could be more fleshed out if more chapters were included explaining the MC, ML, and the Gu Ting village's past in greater detail. Despite some dark themes, it felt more like a slice of life yaoi. <<less

I can personally understand how MC Nan Ge Er feels, when you have no enthusiasm in life and losing hope... reading what he feels is like reading my heart out... this story has a great start making us curious about what really happens, but personally I feel something is missing when the author tries to end the story.... Probably it's a little bit to rush...

ML Mo Shu is a character who can love someone regardless of their appearance, that may be difficult to find in this world... but I really... more>> like how he appreciate Nan Ge Er and try to make him interested in life again.... <<less

The beginning of the novel really threw me off because so much was happening and the mystery about the place MC ends up kept getting dragged out. But I found myself getting super attached to this novel. I felt that I couldn’t stop reading and even stayed up way past my bed time because I kept thinking ‘just one more chapter.’

The novel made me feel a lot of heartbreak for the MC, and to be honest I was surprised he didn’t commit su*cide early on, that’s how bad things got... more>> for him and that’s how much it hurt to even think about what he went through. That’s why I love seeing him relax and be a person again as the novel moves on. ML even purposefully riles him up because ML wants to see him active and emotional instead of withdrawn and a husk of a man. The ML and MC are a perfect match imo, they make up for each other’s faults and help each other with things that they didn’t realize they needed help with. It’s a novel where the MC is healing and gets the nice things that I as a reader feel he deserves.

Usually I’m thinking that if a character suffers I want to see them get the absolute best and this novel fulfills that desire of giving the character the best. Not in a too unrealistic way though, where the MC has great luck and gets rich and has a golden finger that solves every problem that arises, instead what MC gets is a chance to make a life for himself the way that he wants and that’s what he does. He could have easily just felt sorry for himself, shut himself away, blamed everyone else, turned evil and gotten revenge, but instead he does what any world weary person would likely do and just chooses to live on while treasuring what he has. He does what he can and keeps on living, making the most of each day. He gets along with others, and even becomes a popular storyteller that everyone loves. He has his moments where the past catches up to him but he never gives in.

I think if I’m in the mood for a hurt/comfort type of novel this would be my number one go-to novel. There’s plenty of hurt and plenty of comfort, but most importantly it has a very happy ending. <<less

It's good for a casual read. No angst or plots. Just a story about healing and falling in love. Nothing else. I like to read such novels when I like to relax myself. Also, this should be under the yaoi tag. Not shounen ai ^^

although many reviews sayed what I wanted to say but I want to write this review, actually I really love this story

i fell in love with both ML and MC and the city's people

i really want to be the part of this city. their peaceful and mystery world. I think I always want to read this kind of story and im glad that I find it today

i cant say anything about story. actually you should read it yourself to find what kind of gem this story is and experience it... more>> yourself

if I want to say the story problems one thing came in my mind : its very short... I really want more. I want to see more about their adorable life

its right that some events in this novels are strange and Unbelievable and maybe its sound ridiculous to others and of course the story has problem like others but its fantasy after all. who cares about this matter. as long as the story didnt bother me and I enjoyed it, its should be fine.

so I really recommend it to you. if you are a bl lovers you should read itttttt.

The first chapter was interesting, but as I read further, I couldn't find myself absorbed into the story at all. There are stories that're upon reading only 5 or fewer chapters, it still retained my interest, this one, however, failed to. All the while, I was just reading blandly.

STORY

The sypnosis/preview is misleading.

Spoiler

The MC was transmigrator, and he was betrayed by his younger brother despite rearing him and placing him to the throne. No need for details, as these all info dumps that you might think were essential to the plot, it turns out not. I thought the story would revolve around his emotional entanglement with his brother and how he would deal with it but as soon the problem was told, it ended right there. (chapter 1)

It said it focuses on healing and recovering from past trauma. However, aside from physical healing, I couldn't sense any other kind of healing. It was mentioned that MC doesn't bear grudges, nor he have intentions of doing anything with the matter. He doesn't seem as traumatized as he should be and he doesn't seem to be as weak-willed as they say. In short, even just by chapter 2-3, he already come into terms with what happened to him fairly quickly. Where does that leave the room for trauma recovery?

I think, it's precisely because he was just transmigrator that he doesn't have much of a reaction. In his mind, he was still just a sophomore from another world, so he was...a bit detached from reality. If he's detached, he wouldn't be as emotionally and mentally wounded as we thought he should be. His inner monologue also seems to be as energetic. There was barely...a need for healing.

---

The people live in a remote/isolated place. They're detached to other worldly affairs so there's not much to expect in the story but witnessing what they do in daily life. Unless, of course, there would be some disturbances from outside forces. Whether it happened or not, I wouldn't know as I stopped reading

[collapse]

CHARACTERS

All the characters looks superficial, it's hard to remember them.
Spoiler

At most they'll just introduced you their name, what role did they do or what position they have, as for their individual personalities, I can barely grasp them.

Even the ML barely have an appeal to me. I did not like the MC either, he was supposed to be 40-ish in mind but he sometimes acts like he was still that 16 years old sophomore.

[collapse]

Perhaps I was quick on my judgment. Perhaps the writing isn't just my style. Or perhaps it's just not my cup of tea 'right now'. I might give it another chance next time.

TLDR; It's either you will like this story so much, or you will feel nothing at all. I say, just check it out yourself. <<less

This was cute and I loved the characters. They have deep backgrounds and intricate relationships. I binge read all the chapters within two days and I'm glad I did. I loved the language that the translators used as well!

Very comfy until the last third where it feels like the tone dramatically takes an abrupt turn. Some of the content covered there is important, but I'm not sure it fits in with the rest of the story in terms of core theme of [finding happiness and healing through time and love], minus a small point near the end where MC can't bring himself to care about his old life anymore and his dynamic with ML.

Outside of that, the series feels warm and comfortable. A decent little time waster.

's so irritating that MC doesn't want to know the truth of that town when it was so suspicious even at the point where children are leaving somewhere. People shouldn't be so dumb, does it make any sense author?

Beginning was okay for me atleast there is some suspense making me intriguing for me to read... I understand this novel is about character progression atleast it should be explained well on POV.. There is no deep thoughts of MC or ML just some normal fluffy scenes which author want to write... more>> to make it keep going so that readers sit on their chairs still it ends atleast.... Whole novel is like dreamy state where I felt maybe this is a dream where MC is living...

I'm giving this one star to translator nim who translated this novel till it ends. <<less

It's slice of life romance, yes. The MC's gradual change from living like a corpse, having no expectation to live, yet doesn't matter if he died, really touched my soft spot. And I cried with all the warmth the people around MC gives him the care, love and space he needed to heal in his own pace. The flow captivates me. The romance is good, albeit not that much. Although I do agree that the mystery/world-building is not quite complete, but I believe the story is more on the life... more>> of MC and his healing process, so it doesn't really matter much. I'm still 100% satisfied with it. I hope it'll be longer but I know I'm just inviting sorrow unto myself with it haha. READ IT PLEASE <<less

The place where the ML lives lives with his people is so OTT. Lol

A good read. A story about surviving the worst, letting go of the past and looking forwarding to the future. Topped with fluff.

A definite recommend.

One star lost because of various factors

  • mostly because sometimes things get a bit confusing, and are never really clarified (like when characters say euphemistic things that are hard to understand but seem to have meaning? Mo Shu I'm looking atchu)
  • also, some factors of the story seem to be larger than life and it kinda puts me off
Otherwise, this story really is very good. It's a very calming read, and quite well written + translated too. Probably one of the better novels out there.
