Final Review : 8.5/10 (a little personal bias as I got introduced to Xianxia through IET)

The beginning was decent and the initial war and plot in the lower realm was less smooth and needed some dedication to go through and was ok-ish but where this shines is from the Mid-to-End Game part.

The World Building (different races, sect, structure of the overall Universe) and different variety of Cultivation Power System some weaker some stronger is only point where it shines.

The Story & Plot is just normal avoids some clichés but... more>> is still generic. There are Plot-Armors especially later

where MC is turtled by our author and is made unkillable as he has too many clones spread across different Multiverse

[collapse]
. But it doesn't break the Logic of that world as there are some characters who have such almost Unkillable Protection on themself. But still some Overlord can counter that.

The MC is simple, bland (only hobby being drinking wine) and hardworking but most importantly an epitome of Talent. It is more of a Self-insert protagonist as is most of IETs MC. But if you want to relax and go on fantasy journey inserting yourself as MC than ofcourse you can enjoy this Novel fully but it is not a necessity to enjoy/like it. <<less

I hate temporal temple - IET really can't help but use those kinds of things to make MC breakthrough more important to the story.

[collapse]

I also dislike the whole fact that IET stories just can't live without all-out, apocalyptic wars happening around MC, with all-knowing, ever present enemies popping out of every hole (◔_◔)

If not for those - SS, LXY, and DE would've been my favourite novels...

Its a good novel but feel let down that there wasn't a good explanation of what happened with Lou Feng after Swallowed Star. Lou Feng is in the novel but there is barely and interaction and everything is just glossed over.

I always like that I eat tomatoes MC's have one love interest.

It makes you feel things but not real things. I never had to recover from anything that happened in any of his stories where the red wedding put me out of the world for 2 days.

A rather enjoyable story for mindless reading, like some of the best of WebNovel offerings.

Our MC is obviously overpowered af, breaking records and breaking people's minds in many different realms. He has to hard carry his world through overwhelming catastrophes and fight his way up from the bottom.

Not much to say. I appreciate that he wasn't obsessed with romance or a harem, but the trope of fighting hard in order to save his wife got a little tiring after a while. Especially since most of the time his wife was... more>> basically a non-factor in the story. Author throws out units of time like billions millions trillions of years like it's nothing, really makes you lose a sense of scale for cultivating. The ending seemed a little rushed like all WebNovel stories. There was a lot that could still have been expanded upon.

It was quite interesting that the Luo City Lord at the end was revealed to be from another of IET's stories, Swallowed Star. I have already read that but completely forgot who the MC was. Wonder if this Yuan had showed up there too. <<less

What an enjoyable read! I don't care about the cons anymore as long as I enjoy it.

This novel only got few chapters so I already expected a bit weaker ending tho that didn't discourage me. I love to know more about his children (as I'm a sucker for father MCs)

I would've rated it 4.5 stars if I could. A great read falling short of just Swallowed Star. Swallowed Star gave me this distinct and unique feeling of cultivation without neglecting world building. Despite this novel's (LXY) larger world, I feel that Swallowed Star was still my preferred cup of tea. Definitely recommend reading this and Swallowed Star, IET's greatest work in my books.

Okayish start, I personally do not like completely overpowered genius MC's, but whatever, still interesting. Yet. The mid chapters, sadly, are incredibly boring due to ... more>>

the nature of his status as a Material Realm Lord.

There is never any feeling of uncertainty, urgency or dread; any consequences. On top of that, it is also a repetition of MC gets stronger serendipitously before big bad #n could potentially do something that has lasting effects on the story. Can't have that.

I stuck with it because I adored Desolate Era. Coiling Dragon & Stellar Transformation were good reads, too. Swallowed Star, a bit less so, but still better than this.

Until the chapters around

and onwards. Character Development! Oh how I have missed you! MC actually getting the short end of the stick for once after the early chapters! MC going around adventuring with friends! Finally it feels like Desolate Era again.

Bit late though. <<less

I am going to start by saying that I rarely enjoyed reading. This story changed all that because clearly, I wasn't reading things that I enjoyed. I will have spoilers later on what drew me to this story and why I find it to be an marvelous experience that I would recommend everyone take.

I have a habit of not wanting to wait, which is why when the anime was slowly coming out. I decided to peak ahead and I am so glad that I did. I didn't think I could... more>> enjoy something as much as I did. The story just kept surpassing my imagination (Probably due to my never reading this genre previously), but I could envision the things being written. It was almost like I was watching it play out with every word. I also enjoyed that the novel didn't waste words, giving you everything you needed in a compact form.

What drew me to the story:

  1. It's a story about a spear user. I never imagined a user of a spear being the main character of the story. Swords of varying types have always dominated anime's and manga's. I don't know of another spear user being the hero. This allowed for techniques and ideas that aren't common place due to the differences between the two types.
  2. Spoiler

The story wasn't about a hero who was born great. It detailed a hero who rose to greatness. Every step of the way felt difficult. There were moments of actual weakness and even moments where I felt the frailty of the character. That usually is very difficult to convey when the expectation is that this character is OP.

    [collapse]
  3. Spoiler

The story is as much a story of self discovery as it is about martial arts. The ideas that it introduces are simple, but brilliantly brought up. I will admit to getting chills at some sections because it made me think about the beauty of this world. It let me escape from the ordinary to a world where questioning and trying new things was common place.

    [collapse]
Personal opinion on this one regarding the ending:

4.
Spoiler

My only disappointed came with the ending that felt lackluster compared to the world that was created. I wanted to see their reactions to what he has become. I wanted to see old friends that I hadn't read about in days. I wanted to feel their warmth for the main character for his achievements. I also thought at some point that he had re-incarnated and it was only after he reached the final stage of mirage that the seal would lift and he would remember everything prior to it. It felt hinted at when they mentioned an Overlord that went missing.

This story hits different than other IET stories in a good way :

  • There is still a good cultivation system, but the pacing is better and it feels clearer to follow.
  • The hero is world defying in many way, but it's not because of a universe shattering inheritance, or item, or going back in time. He is just THAT good at cultivating, he is fast, serious and intelligent. That's pretty refreshing compared to other popular work of this genre.
  • There is a feeling of completion with a lot of secondary characters.
    Spoiler

A good example would be his wife : while she is relevant to the story, there is a lot of plot revolving around her feelings and personality. But there is not a feeling of her needing to be at the same level than the MC. Instead she will be a good help to have a few glimps in the everyday life of the protagonist.

    [collapse]
  • There are quite a lot of moment where we will have a good mention of the hobbies, likes and dislikes of the MC : Most often good restaurant and wine. While it has little relevance to the story, it often helps with one of the most glaring fault of IET, the dialogue and characterization. I was really happy to power through the chapters just for those moments.
  • It might be my experience with other works of the same genre, but I could understand the point of view of quite a lot of entities. The mortals that look up to powerful cultivators, the one that were legend in a low realm, becoming for more normal when the MC finally meet them, or even some of the older entities in the world and why they act the way they do.
In short, it is still an IET story, but in a different way. Meaning that it's certainly not a perfect story, but it has good basis and good pacing. And this time the end, while still rushed, actually makes me want to see more of this world. The MC reached an impossible goal but IET show us that there is always new things to discover in a better way than before. This was a good cultivation story for me.

This is a straight as an arrow, no nonsense cultivation novel. Can't rate it 5 stars since it lacks that extra bit of polish and editing that some other works have. But it deserves solid 4 stars since it doesn't make any glaring mistakes. Yeah sure there are loopholes and logic errors if you look for them, but this is quite normal for this genre.

If you've read other novels by IET then you know what to expect and what you're going to get. It's a solid grounded work and better... more>> than a lot of lousy novels out there. The bad aspect of this novel is that nothing really stands out about it. The author sticks to his old formulas. Also the translation quality is sometimes a bit lacking. <<less

I really enjoyed the novel. The world building was good and the characters was pretty fleshed out. It was an addicting read, but the ending feels rushed. I machine translated the last book. Maybe when I read the proper translated version, I’ll come back and give it a 5.

Overall recommend.

The earth arc after the initial boring chapters is amazing. After that, there is a lot of training arcs that are boring. Then a few exciting explorations or journey arcs. Then more training. So altogether it's got slow times and the exciting times.

Overall good story. A bit shallow to my taste but it may suit another reader.

Sometimes it gets you hooked, some other times it gets you bored.

Nothing magnificent fight-wise since there is barely any strategy involved, but powers are still amazing and believable in the context. So, action is not bad.

It will read better or worse depending on individual taste, but I really felt the narration had too much praise for MC. Almost every chapter, from everyone, regardless of friend of foe, public viewer or close ones. The frequency is ridiculous... more>> and it makes reading strenuous.

After hundreds of chapters we are supposed to know how good his talent is, how much of a family man he is and how obsessed he supposedly is with the spear...

Not to mention how those supposedly old and wise elders of the clan can't keep their praise for themselves. There's a reason why spoiled kids are spoiled. And yet MC is supposed to be impervious to arrogance and pride, unrealistic.

And the assertion-explaining-justification-speculation model became unbearable later on. Too much explaining filler parts. A story is not a report, it's supposed to be immersive not flat.

Also, MC speaks as a third party, MC speaks as narrator, narrator speaks as MC, that's very annoying. Elements were thrown at the reader out of place.

Well, in the end, the story was good but the writing style lacked narrative quality, or maybe it was just shameless word count priority ! <<less

LXY is one of my favourite novels as it is written by IET and it is similar to DE and CD.

To those who enjoyed reading CD, this book would be a great fit for you.

Xue Ying is hardworking and he pretty much just focuses on cultivation. If you look hard-working MCs with great personalities, this book is for you!

The beginning is quite boring though it gets much better.

Love the concept of the myriad existences "laws of the world" and the different planets, starfields, material and deity world. Love the MC, his wife, and his powers, as well as the "villains".
