not very good.

what we have here is a very interesting novel.

the first few chapters are very good and sets out the unique cultivation however it quickly goes downhill from there.

... more>> The mc's family quickly become irrelevant to the plot and his actions regarding them are strange. however the MC personality just gets worse and worse and it shows that the author has no clue how to properly write the unique novel that he has created at the start as it quickly turns into a typical xianxia.

not to mention that it later becomes fan fiction due to him bringing in aliens and more, but again all of these is irrelevant to the plot as the MC will just use his plot armor to smash everything.

The MC gene-equation cheat is only used on himself and his dreams of becoming a geneticist is quickly forgotten. he finds powerup after powerup and we see his "vitality" spiking very often.

The MC does not create any relationships at all and quickly forgets about everyone who has helped him. also characters never last as they are usually killed or the MC just becomes so strong that they disappear from the story.

majority of the chapters are describing pointless stuff. fights can last for more than 5 chapters and because nobody but the MC is relevant, you can just skip the entire fight dialog and you wont miss anything at all.

also the university entrance examinations spans for more than 100 chapters.... nothing and nobody in this 100 chapters are ever mentioned again.

MC cultivation and fights/combat

the MC power level spikes insanely and yet there are still people who are stronger than him popping up all over the place...

for example, it is written that the strongest cultivator on earth is only a cultivator elite. yet the MC only takes a few weeks to become stronger than a cultivator elite.

for example, his cultivation/vitality in the first 20 chapters is normal, then later he goes from 80ish->100ish in a few chapters, then from 100ish -> 270ish then -> 500ish -> 900ish -> 1200+...

Family/Romance

the MC also talks alot about "saving" his family and tries to leave his family, but later on he decides to leave his family with the feng family...???

so much for all that "family" talk...

there is also no romance...

fanfic tag

The novel later on becomes fanfic, where people start using genes/skills from anime such as naruto, and even aliens (from the movie aliens) comes out....

MC plot armor

there is also some plot armor/unreasonableness about the MC genes.

as we all know, the MC genes are not at the "sun wukong" level yet, but he can summon the monkey god and/or use his legends to destroy his enemies attacks already...

while all of his other enemies are also on a similar mythical path, they cannot summon the final god of their path like the MC.

for example, one person who is stronger than the MC is on the path of king yama, but he is only at the stage of an asura, just like how the MC is on the path of sun wukong but only at the stage of a stone monkey.

so while the bad guy can only use the power of an asura, the MC can use the powers of sun wukong to wreck him, despite being weaker............????????????

Selfish protagonist

the MC is also very selfish. he first notices it when he refuses to save two girls who begged for his help. he explains that because he had transmigrated, he feels no sense of belonging to the world. (but he feels for his family???)

later on, he meets a village of herbs and while eating and drinking with them, he says that they have helped him alot and he owes them "a great favor".

a few sentences later, the village is attacked and he continues to eat and drink and ignores everything. when the village chief asks him for help, he refuses to help them until they offer him their treasures.

MC's other "cheat"

not really a cheat as per the author, but it seems like the MC can absorb martial arts just by reading the manual. it's should be written as a cheat but I dunno... he later learns martial arts just by looking at them... <<less

This novel is one of those that forced me to stop my habit to read at least 200 chapters before dropping a novel, the level of racism in this story was so high that I couldn't bear with it anymore.

The worst is that even without the racism, the story is bad ; the MC is hypocrite, the others character are bland, typical villains, etc.

The author is similar to his characters, he has an incomplete knowledge about the myths, he claims that the Chinese myths are greater than the others myths.... more>> He even compares Sun Wukong's powers to the Titans of the Greek mythology to prove that they are inferior but he seems to ignore the origin of Buddhism...

This novel should be called "Legend of the Mythological Racist"... <<less

I really had to force myself to read the first ten chapters to give the story a chance.

Like with The Strongest Gene, the “science” in this novel makes me feel like I’m bashing my head into a wall. One hundred percent does not equal 100% in this series. If you don’t understand a lick of science, then make the series pure fantasy! Amino acids and the function of turning genes on and off aren’t mentioned. Why aren’t viruses used for genetic modification? Did people from the future forget how to... more>> splice genes? Furthermore, if you’re in a clan, then isn’t there a good chance that you are related and share the same genes? Why are there “formulas” and “equations” for genes? I would have thought the translators chose the wrong term and wrote “gene” instead of whatever was meant, but DNA is specifically mentioned in the second chapter. The author’s ideas on evolution are... interesting, even if they don’t make a lick of sense. Pluto returned to being a planet. The complications of pioneering through space and colonizing various habitats with different gravities is completely left out. Also, the author seems to have forgotten about the planets in other galaxies and that everything in space is constantly moving and isn’t going to stay in one place.

... Why are math and the sciences classified as “literature” in this school? Just wtf...

If something is going to be sci-fi, then actually make it sci-fi! There is no science to go along with all this fiction!

This is a standard, painfully cliché transmigration story where the person from the past takes over the body of a loser in the future. As usually, the MC starts out quite weak and looked down upon by his clan, but he undergoes magical stat-boosting... There is nothing original here. At all.

The story starts off with an information dump so heavy, I almost dropped the series in the first few chapters. This is definitely a series that “tells” the story rather than “shows” it. Impressively boring. Worse yet, even that is filled with inconsistencies. Without establishing the character or giving the readers any interest in the plot, the MC just cultivates. That’s right—this may actually be a cultivation novel disguised as a science-fiction.

As for characterization, there isn’t any. I guess the MC’s trait is that he’s hard-working? He was from our era, but nothing is revealed about his past life.

There is no story or character design, and the background doesn't make a lick of sense. I feel bad for the translation team for having to read this. Not recommended. <<less

You can learn a lot about the novel, looking just at the title. It's about genes, and it's mythology. That means it's tied to the earth, and it's genes of today's humans and our mythology. It's a sci-fi story, so it's in the future. You might think that since it's so far in the future, things would be different from now, but then again, given the context of the title..

If you guessed that it's actually heavily based on how the author's world view is, you'd be right. This is a... more>> story where the han chinese are a "pure" race, who are strong and united, and they have no bad traits. However, the japanese are evil, the "white race" are literally naxis, and indians and africans are an inferior race. Just, wow. Not only that, but the mythologies that are central to the story are clearly based on the idea that everything ancient china=good, and everyone else is bad.

So let's just say you're okay with that, is the writing any good? A new plot is introduced, will it go somewhere? The mythology should be interesting, right?Do I recommend this novel? The answer to all of those questions is NO. <<less

Overall, this isn't a very good story. It started off actually being very good, but it didn't take long for it to start going downhill faster and faster. Some pros and cons are as follows:

Pros:

Interesting world. This isn't the first story I've seen that features a futuristic world somewhat regressing to ancient time to study cultivation, but it's the first one I've seen where the main obstacle in peoples' progression is simply a lack of knowledge of where to go next. This is made even more interesting by the fact... more>> that the stories, myths, and legends that we're familiar with now are the main topics sought after, but they've been mostly forgotten. This gimmick allows the MC being from the past to be an incredibly useful in an interesting way.

Interesting cultivation system. This story uses gene strengthening and combining for cultivation, so it can be fun to think about the combinations and possibilities that exist, though people rarely seem to diversify their abilities much. The MC's cheat in this regard, his "genetic equation" as he calls it, basically just lets him skip all of the confusing and unknown parts of cultivation, (he just trains to acquire points to add to genes freely instead of having to focus on strengthening a certain gene.) and it's easy to understand due to it being completely math based.

In general, the story is interesting. In the end, you'll read a book like this for the story, as it's not a comedy book, and it's holding my interest quite well. Full of cliches and rather predictable, but I find it fun overall. There's a heavy emphasis on the word "overall" but more on that later.

That's about it. Now onto the main part.

Cons:

Extreme racism. Yeah, it's a Chinese novel that takes place in the real world so I'm somewhat used to this, but it's still rather annoying. The MC regularly calls anyone not Chinese inferior or even outright disgusting, so it can be hard to ignore. Adding to this, the enemies are racist as well, thinking the opposite way.
Spoiler

From what I've seen so far, I'm pretty sure the main antagonists of the story are literal Nazis. I mean swastikas, blonde blue-eyed white people only, the whole racism package.

[collapse]

Excessive exaggeration. A bit of an odd nitpick of mine, but I can only handle so many "fists blasting out with immense force, shaking the heavens and earth" before my eyes star to glaze over from the terms that have now lost all meaning. The author seems to do this solely to pad word count and it's really annoying. It's especially annoying when these fights are happening stealthily near other people, as I'm sure anyone nearby would likely notice the, and I quote "waves ten-thousand-feet tall" casually appearing unknown to the people in the same building this fight is taking place in. This point is a big reason for my next point as well.

Boring fights. I normally don't even care about how well fight scenes are written, but this is the first time I've found myself skimming through almost all of them. They're uninteresting, needlessly wordy, (partly from the exaggerations,) predictable, and far too long. Most fights take several chapters even if they're incredibly one sided, and there's a lot of reactions to individual moves that aren't needed. There's just enough new content spread throughout the fights to get me to pay attention, but it's close.

Unclear abilities. The start of the book measures abilities a little with punch force measuring and speed tests, but those fade away pretty quickly, and are only metaphorically measured. Additionally, the MC's cheat ability is unclear as well. His genetic equation lets his derive exact formulas, but the criteria for being able to do that is very vague. Sometimes he just needs to know one gene to find out the other two it combines with to make a better one, and sometimes he needs to know the goal, and half of the ingredients as well. It seems to just work the way the MC wants it to.

Sudden strength increases all around. The MC gets nonsensically stronger all at once sometimes and completely stagnates sometimes as well. Additionally, others seem to get needlessly stronger behind the scenes when the MC should have already outpaced them. For example:
Spoiler

Before he leaves Earth for the first time, he hears that it's very impressive that a couple people in his clan have reached a vitality of 10. When he comes back a month later, there are suddenly several people with vitality levels over 30.

[collapse]

Overall, the individual chapters are rather dry, and the writing isn't great, but as it's managed to hook me enough to get me to still keep reading and has at least a good concept, I can't really call it bad. Give it a shot if you like what you've heard and don't intend to focus on the details too closely. It's a fine time killer in that way. <<less

This novel is pretty much just garbage. I honestly don't have any valid reason for why I even completed it. Covid19 and a lot of extra free time I guess.

I liked the idea of the mythological genes at first, but the novel really just never pulled it off.

So, so much racism as well. The author seems to have a pretty big rage boner for white people and the Japanese. I mean, everyone is not as good as the Chinese, but white people and the Japanese especially so. Since he's a... more>> Chinese author I could understand and accept if he wanted to make China and the Chinese be the biggest and most important power in the future. That would have been fine. That's not what is done in this novel though.

The MC never develops as a person and there are no meaningful interactions with any other characters. No other characters ever matter to the story at all.

A note from the author at the end that pretty much stated anything else he could write would just be filler, so it was just a rushed ending to say it had an ending. If you exclude all of the racism, this is a novel that should have just been a practice exercise for the author and shouldn't have ever been released to a reading audience. <<less

Initially when this novel still in the middle of translation I stay away from it like a plague because of heavy 'racism', but then I find this novel again in the completed novel section, so why not give it a try again since it only had about 500 or so chapters.

Conclusion: I managed to read upto chapter 260 'Cosmos university arc', and I can only said: "I can't believe I managed to stay this long to put up with this crap"

Yeah, my main complain is still the racism. You thought... more>> since it's a future interstellar era then there will be no racism since all countries were united under federation? You're wrong!

Author made an improvisation in the meaning of racism by insulting (even if it's not too blatant) other country's cultures and myths.

It's one thing to insult other ethnicity like in many modern chinese novels, but it's a low blow that cross bottom line to insult other ethnic's culture.

What made me laugh in irony is the author himself doesn't grasp enough knowledge about his own country's myth. Even a grade schooler in my country have better knowledge in Sun Wukong's myth since there are popular serialize drama about it here.

In the end I can't stay put too long with this 'crappy work that insult other's culture' novel so I just directly skip to the last chapter @517, guess what I found?

Spoiler

In the end I found some kind of ninja being the last boss for MC. So yeah even until the end, author's racism is run deep without cure, there's not even any author's note of apology or some notice that mention 'This work is a fiction, any figure or place mention in this novel doesn't have any relation with real life.' What a degenerate racist

[collapse]

Instead of this crap, try to read 'Pocket Hunting Dimension'. It's the same genre of interstellar era along with MC possessed cheat, but MC is funny and likeable and there isn't any racism mention (come on, humanity in the danger of extinction by the threat of alien race. Is it logical or relevant to mention ethnic's different here. All I can say is that author of LoMG is too caught up in his racism imagination instead of thinking about decent plot). <<less

I will only mention the bad things.

1. Author is racist and really hates japanese

2. Lots of infodumps

3. No character development

4. The story was rushed after 400th chapter. It's like the author suddenly didn't want to continue the story anymore.

5. The author is racist.

My rating

The story: 1/5

The actual stort without the info dumps: 2/5

Characters: 2/5

Plot: N/A

Even though I really REALLY like mythologies, I can't seem to like this novel.

Yep, this story is sh*t and I would not recommend it. Lmao

I liked the first ten or so chapters. Then he gets into his first fight with a typical arrogant young master shouting about him courting death and it goes downhill from there. After family politics and an internship that lasted who knows how long (it's never said, but the arc takes up a lot of chapters) that has nothing to do with the rest of the story, he finely gets into school and doesn't even start class before ... more>>
Spoiler

interstellar war breaks out and he, of course, becomes the hero that saved humanity by completely destroying a branch of the spirit race and proving Chinese superiority and dominance.

[collapse]

the nationalism and racism in this one is particularly bad, as others have pointed out, with very ridged divisions within humanity. With this set up it would have been better not to bring in "alien ethnicities" at all and let humans squabble over the galaxy on their own.
Spoiler

the authors' assumption that all peoples have the same generations-old clan/family set up is laughable. Also, westerners are very practical and 'face' is much less important to most of them so a lot of the reactions of the "white race" make no sense in context. Not to mention that people of color are treated as subhuman and the aliens have even less intelligence (being either lowly vassals or evil enemies) and are therefore treated as either cannon fodder, or walking exp deserving of extinction.

[collapse]

I agree that this is basically a jttw fanfic and I tend to avoid fanfic like the plague. This could have been a little more interesting if the author had bothered to research the mythologies he was writing about (including his own Chinese ones). I kept reading so far only because I want to know what mystery gene is needed where to mix to help his cultivation path. Not worth continuing and frankly I'm surprised I made it to 500 (though I did skip/ skim many chapters due to not giving a f*ck).

I might have given this a one but it gets an extra star for there being no r*pe. <<less

This is a cookie-cutter wuxia novel with a futuristic setting. You have clans, schools, tournaments and almost all problems being solved with violence. People pick fights for no reason or even when it’s against their own interests. Just standing around? A stranger will come over pick a fight. There’s tons of filler text (e.g., “Don’t do X. No joking.” Give pointlessly detailed examples of people doing this. Repeat a few chapters later to take up space). In any case, there’s nothing special about this story.

I am in love with this novel. It is a mixture of mythology and possible futuristic reality and gene engineering. These are my favourite types of genres. Till the tenth chapter the story progresses nicely I can see a lot of potential. The main character is smart/resourceful and knows how to play his cards without getting himself in unnecessary danger/conflict.

Because of novels like this I am sad I don't know Chinese because I just cannot wait to read chapters to come..

Would recommend 10 out of 10.

The initial premise of the story is pretty interesting, how you can combine different genes to create superior genes and you can also improve your existing genes to improve combat power.

But, the execution is weak. The plot flows like a generic tr*sh tier cultivation novel. Even though its supposed to be a super advanced sci-fi world, you still have Chinese, Japanese, Russian, etc. Factions and each are racist as hell towards other nationalities. A lot of missed opportunities with the strong premise. There's still young masters acting like ret*rds even... more>> though these genes are supposed to make them super intelligent.

The MC is not a likable person. The author doesn't really establish a good overarching story line of why he wants to be strong and what is driving him. The MC's cheat powers are also way way to OP and makes every plot pointless because he will magically overpower any enemy and have zero roadblocks in his cultivation.

The good initial premise and my love for sci fi fooled me into reading 200+ chapters so I will give it a 3 but it is a tr*sh tier cultivation novel. <<less

It's a Chinese novel where every bad cliches attached to a CN novel exists.

Some example would be

1) The absurd amount of racism. And the constant China numbal Wan shit

2) In the first few chapters, it is said that if a person does not have a Vitality stats of 2, then they would have a chance to get into a University. Few chapters later, poof, author just change it and said, one needs to be an Interstellar Cultivator to get into a University. And then, the same sh*t happens again when... more>> he applied for Cosmos University, one needs to become an elite cultivator (meaning having more that 100 in vitality stats) to have a guaranteed chance to get an admission.

3) The s*upid MC when he supposedly awaken a gene that should give him a higher intellect. An example where this is shown would be when the Fatty tried to purchase the genetic equation from him for his evolution. The fatty was truly desperate and even offered upto 100M star coins for the formula. But no, MC has to coax him into joining his Association and only got 3 million. He could've squeezed out even more than 100 million and make him join his association as the guy was filthy rich and was absolutely desperate. Not only that, the MC praises himself as being pretty smart for getting 3 million SC when he actually loses 97 million SC. <<less

The sole problem that I see is the end, it was rushed so much that even the author understood that for not ruining all his work, it should stop here. You can even expand realms and world building here but atlast he made it like this, lost a lot of potential for a good book.

This novel cannot even considered as a 'snack' / 'fastfood' kind of tr*sh novel bcz I can hardly digest with those 'tons-all-over-the-place' kind of the fiilers. Seriously, u can't even enjoy the fight scene bcz fillers will pop up after every 1-3 line fight scene.

The racism is way over the chart.

The rest also a tr*sh grade (MC, side char, plot, story line, etc all tr*sh grade)

Overalls, not a recomended novel so dont waste ur time.

TL;DR: Don't read if you don't like blatant racism; I had to stop reading this due to this reason.

This story and how it was approached was interesting and new, so I started to read it. In beginning, this seemed to be about a "isekai'ed poor clan man with his cheat" story. He works his way up and there is a interesting world-building. The escalation in plot does seem a little much at times, but it's a good read until the red flags showed up.

Prior to the whole "Cosmos University" Arc,... more>> there was hints of it but the racism is escalated quickly as the story continue. This is the first time I had to stop reading a novel due to the racism being blatant. It adds nothing to the story other than to comment about Japanese inferior to Chinese, or terrible claims about "Japanese fearing the strong and bullies the weak" (directly from the book, Chapter 204).

While in the beginning, there were signs of "China #1" and "Huaxia is different from all of the other pantheon" because China. These were tolerable, I know that author place them in there so that their novels can be "pro-china" so that they can write it. However, when our MC met with the Japanese "antagonist" or even groups, they are portrayed like an "arrogant young master" in China.

This portrayed seemed, at first, to make the Japanese into the first real antagonist of the story; however, not even the "Feng" family that wanted him as a "protector" (aka s*ave/thug) was treated as poorly as a random Japanese. Even the comments about how "dishonorable" their tactics were, when our MC used them and even had battle where "rules" didn't matter in war.

Now there is a sliding scale on morality when reading these novels; how can we stand behind some MCs where they manipulates/rapes/massacres their NPCs in their story yet racism = bad? IMHO, those thing, however terrible and unethical; adds value to the story. (Stay with me here) When a story about "Survival of the Fittest" and that's what everyone is doing, then it is par for the course that our MC will do similar things (if not, more extreme) to make a point - I'm looking to you MGA, which I stopped reading as well. As far as racism, it is something that wasn't a part of the story in the beginning but commented and inserted without adding any narrative value beyond Japanese = Bad. This is not part of the story, this was the author's attempt to project their feelings in the story.

All in all, this novel is races toward Japanese (and whites, but I'm not touching that) that doesn't have any reason and doesn't add any narrative value to the story. The takeaway, read at your own caution. <<less

For the first 10 chapters is pretty awesome.

For the first 10 chapters is a typical wuxia/xianxia MC from the bottom climbing to the top cliche.

I don't know about anything since is only in the first 10 chaps I will update more when the story gets more chapter.
