This is an amazing novel. It's good. Story and character development is top notch and the romance wasn't anything I would have expected from a xianxia novel. I'm very lost ad to why you can't add romance as one of the genres on this site. I'm lost and very irritated.

Some people may think it's slow but that is not a good reason to rate it one star. '-' The story fills out and the development, steps and mystery in this story is great.

As a previous reviewer said, this 45% romance,... more>> 45% martial arts, and 10% bro-ship.

It's sort of modern society, everyday life, cute relationships, nostalgic friendships, competitions, xianxia, immortals and cultivation blended together nicely... Once you get to a certain point

It's how a modern martial arts story should go if you add romance. It sort of reminds me of romance of dragons and snakes. :) <<less

Romance is much too prominent and contrived in this series, as it's used as the main motivation for the MC who is much too plain and boring a character, the MC is like a puppy dog in love who can't live without the love interest throughout their relationship.

Action is very boring and repetitive since it's mainly based on a tournament format throughout the series & the results soon become much too predictable and I found myself skimming through the fights as well, let alone skipping entire chapters.

Dropped at chapter 331.

I picked this up because I saw so many positive ratings for it here, which was clearly a mistake.

It's centered around a bunch of hormonal teenagers. It's extremely off-putting to have such an immature protagonist. His sole drive to practice martial arts was to impress a girl.

The martial arts in the novel are very lame, they are more like sports.

All-in-all, it's just too damn boring. I lost interest very quickly. Perhaps this is one of those "I'm too old for this shit" scenarios, but I can't recommend this drivel to... more>> anyone. <<less

This novel is a hidden gem. Stick through with it and you will find a relatable/believable/thrilling story. In the end, you'll be wanting more while also feeling full. If you came here and expect an MC who wins every fight and rises to the top, you'll be disappointed. You will realize that this story is all about an MC who struggles and tries his best yet there are still many people towering above him. You will come to root and cheer for him and those he competes against. The fight... more>> scenes are amazing and the character development, especially the romance part is very wholesome. If you don't like romance + martial arts (since many other authors fked up this genre), give this book a try. Maybe it'll give you hope that this combination can actually produce a great novel! <<less

An interesting take on the fantastical world of martial arts, but it left me feeling like I was only getting half of a story, and it ended rather abruptly.

The biggest problem I had with this novel is the lack of adventure. You have this fantastic world building, but half way though the book he just stops doing anything interesting. It would have been much more fun to watch him actually have a life, raise some kids, take in and teach the next generation, start a cooking show.... Anything but the... more>> horrible sameness of the last third of the book that's literally either training for a fight or having the fight.

I got through it, but it wasn't very fun. <<less

One of the worst novel you can read ever. Devoted love interests novel are sh*t and should be avoided since everything is about the girl. He even joined because of the girl and not because he wanted to get stronger. Even if it changes later it does not change that he joined for a girl I mean how naive is he. MC like this are tr*sh. MC should cultivate to get stronger and not to get laid. Any author can do good fight scenes but The main character are hard... more>> to write and this one is a total lower who just wants to get laid. But since many people are such lower no wonder it got such a high rating. <<less

This is written more in the style of an actual novel than a webnovel which is nice. It alternates quite well between what in theory is martial arts but is in reality sports drama and romance quite well. The fight scenes are detailed, but in a really tedious way. The story is interesting but not particularly exciting. The English translation however is quite subpar and frequently is at the level of machine translation. Webnovel should be ashamed to charge money for it. But that's sadly nothing new.

You should note that this novel has a genre of drama and slice of life, this is not suitable for people who can't wait and want a very OP MC character like Xianxia novel... Well a lot of day conversations that feels not important but what else can (clearlyI skip and still curious about the ending until it finished reading it)... and I am a person who was impatient, many chapters I passed and finally finished, quite quite with a strange ending: D

Do you want to read a top martials arts novel?

Then you did not come in the right place it's just a kind of good martials arts novel, BUUTTT!!!!!

DO YOU WANT TO READ A ROMANCE/SLICE OF LIFE NOVEL?

Then you did come to the right f*ckING PLACE, I never though that what I would be more interested in this novel would be the love life of the MC with his waifu and his interaction with his friends and not the numerous fights in tournament and rise in power/glory of the MC in... more>> a modern world.

Even so it doesn't mean that I was not interested in the martial art side of the novel (the main part of the novel) and coupled with what interested me the most, this novel for me is a masterpiece of a kind.

I truly recommend this novel for this and also because for me it is a very good depiction of how the world would be if martial art truly could make you a war machine. <<less

The beginning of volume 1 and all of volume 2 are the most boring things this author has ever written. It isn’t boring because it’s genre is slice of life, but because it has very boring and plot irrelevant 'arcs'.

The story does get better, but the long boring parts never go away.

I tried to dig this one, but is too slow and too much focused in romance, the bad of this is that is a Teen Romance, with in-deep explanation.

For me with 40s years of age, is tedious! It may be interesting for young men who doesn't have GFs or like these mushy stuff, at my age romance is resolved faster and easier.

I was looking for some Urban Cultivation, with some mature and well developed villains and/or opponents, perhaps some psychological elements, in resume more into Seinen genre than Shounen, I... more>> hate Shounens because I am more inclined to read about Anti Heroes.

Heavy Slice of live too much common people talking about common things, if I read is to transport myself to another perspective different to Real Life, it is ridiculous to read about normal life in a book of fiction, specially when nothing supernatural happens.

Dropped around chapter 200, maybe someday I pick it up to continue, but there is a higher possibility I don't do it. <<less

I liked this. It wasn't the best, but it was an enjoyable read especially if you didn't hard rush it. The tournaments were a bit too frequent, but I understand that's a key component of the story. Ending wasn't my favorite, but I tend to hate endings so much that I'll drop when there is about 10% left. I actually finished this, which is a good sign.

The relationship centered plot between MC and his girl was great. It felt realistic with real world problems like ... more>>

The romance is interesting and worth reading. However, once the MC gets the girl, the story dries up and I found the fighting to be pretty boring. I got close to finishing the novel, but I couldn't finish it.

I really want to like this, as a fair bit of the reviews make it sound like something I should really like. At the same time, I'm really, really struggling with the 'sports' aspects. I have a hard enough time caring about that stuff in real life, there's zero chance I care about it in a novel. Some of it is pretty skimmable, at least... to a point. A few chapters in a row get spent on some people you don't really care about fighting a bunch of people you've... more>> never heard of before, and... well at least it's pretty easy to skim. You could probably even just ctrl-F the MC's name and leave it at that.

What is a little harder to just skim past though is the reactions. That side of the things are the bits I'm actually interested in with this novel, but... it's so incredibly dramatic. The bunch of people you don't care about lost a match and now you're suddenly reading about visceral pain and grief descending on the world as the women are wailing in the corner. I mean, really? Really? Your sports team lost, yet this is getting a more dramatic response than most xianxia MC's that watch their mothers get killed. To be fair that says more about xianxia than this novel, but still. Maybe people super into sports or something will have an easier time with these scenes, but to me it just makes the whole thing feel so contrived. <<less

I have not got a single clue what happens during the fights. Romance seems fine and cultivation is understandable although it seems like bits & bobs are being thrown in to show that the MC has progressed. Not really any interesting plot going on, there's mysteries but nothing anyone would really give a sh*t about.

It's fine, there's nothing really off-putting about the novel and the romance is sweet but I really cannot picture the fights happening as I'm reading it.

For now the novel feels ok, not bad but not outstanding either just your usual wuxia novel

pros:

    • No brainless arrogant young masters (at least I didn't see one yet)
    • No S*xdolls (id*ot women that only see the MC in the whole world) or 10000000 years old virg*ns
    • the world building and development are decent
    • there is other characters beside the MC so it isn't a one man show
cons:

    • The MC is the type who seeks gain without pain and somehow accidentally got a cheat to help him do that.
    • The cheat somewhat feels off the theme of the story for me
    • The romance is somewhat dull
      Spoiler

I mean it's about a guy fall in love with a beautiful girl from the first sight then they got together and stayed with each others forever basically just that. Well I'm not saying this is bad but this happens around me all the time and mostly it ends with couples quarreling for almost everything then separate ways. In short the romance here neither feels real nor it's that interesting

      [collapse]
I'm still at beginning of the story so I can't give more details but I expected more from the writer of "lord of mysteries" so I'm somewhat disappointed

Maybe if I read this novel few years earlier I might have had different feelings but I already got bored from the ordinary-mc-become-a-god-after-he-got-a-cheat plot. Unless it's a really an entertaining or stunning story, I don't feel like reading this type of novels for now

Alright folks, this is a real review without any intent to boost webnovels' fame. I really love this especially the romance, friendship, and slice of life. Unexpected, coming from a martial arts theme novel, but this one really did it and it's even better than some of romance focused chinese webnovels, especially their flirty conversations. It reminds me of those cultivation xianxia but without the 'gotta catch em all'... cough, I mean without their harem.

I'm overall very satisfied with this novel except the few chapters near the end because it... more>> felt very rushed, idk maybe the author lost the passion or had some writerblocks as it wasn't as interesting as the earlier part of the story, BUT the ending/epilogue did it's job to give a real closure. Just the process towards that closure is a bit disappointing.

I'll give this an easy 5/5, do try to read this (there's even tons of way to do so, uhm.. you'll probably know what I'm thinking) and maybe try to support the author/translators once you feel like this novel is worth it.

Oh yeah, there's a lot of typos which is a shame considering that it is an official translations, but it doesn't affect my enjoyment at all <<less

There are lots of positive points for this novel while having very few negative sides to talk about. The first thing that comes to mind is the romance. It's so well-written that you literally feel that's how it should be in real life. There's no exaggeration on the beauty, background part. Also she reacts like how a normal girl would do which is a rare commodity in this genre. Following the gradual improvement of the MC's character was also a treat. The cheat (barely) of his doesn't play a very... more>> big role except the initial improvement was also a good point of this novel. There are more good points to take note of but I got just bored at some point because of the constant tournaments. I am really not a sports guy so take this with a pinch of salt but there are way too many tournaments. But if you are looking for a good, warm romance without too much cheese, combat oriented novel, this is the one for you.. <<less

The first time I read this book I thought it was phenomenal except for the translation blunders, but now... there are plenty of holes.

Romance

It's too much in relation to the number of chapters. At first it was enjoyable to read, but now it feels so saturated that I wish the book was longer and it was spread out just to dilute it all.

The initial stages of the romance seems very normal to me and is far better than romance subplots in other chinese novels. However, the romance is definitely not... more>> a subplot, it is the main theme and the rest is all for the sake of driving it further. ML wants to join the club just to get the girl. After being blessed with an opportunity he wants to get stronger just so he can impress the girl. Sure he develops further motivation once he starts to enjoy it and actually seems to have some talent beyond his cheat but it's not that deep. You get the feeling that if his relationship goes south his martial arts journey would go up in smoke or he'll have very little ambition. After all, he came from a poor background and most of his family barely scr*pe by so he must have had the ambition to pull himself out of that considering how hard he studied to get into the best university in their region. Yet he minimises his own intelligence, life experience and principles when he meets the FL. Considering how pampered and protected she is, setting her up to be extremely superior in terms of maturity is unrealistic and we lose depth of character in the ML because if it's not about the FL or martial arts, he barely thinks about anything else. Also, most of his conversations with his friends revolve around getting or having a girlfriend and everything in his life revolves around her. I suppose this can be excused due to first love excitement but how long can that last? After a few months of dating its the same thing, the ML pampering FL to the extreme while she buys him something once in a while and researches his matches and that's enough for her to feel like she's contributing equally to the relationship. This leads me to my biggest gripe.

FL only fell in love with ML because of how obsessed he is with her!

Her reasons for loving the ML remain so shallow even after they get deep into the relationship. I am yet to see her return her love for him beyond shy statements and a practical gift once in a while that get him excited and leave him feeling so lucky. That this is enough for him after so many months baffles me. He develops to a point where as individuals, family background aside, they are equal yet their relationship remains so unbalanced. God forbid he got injured and he had to live a more average life, would their relationship survive? Considering she is quite self centered I doubt it. This isn't healthy and if these were real people I would be very worried for the ML.

Martial Arts

This is a wuxia novel, not xianxia. The people putting tags on these stories seriously need to know the difference. Second, the martial arts bit is too little. With such a title, the book should be dominated with it, there is so much to explore in terms of the origin of the ML cheat, martial arts culture & community, the Coach, developing rivalries between competitors etc. But every potential rival is like "This guy is strong I won't lose next time." "Oh no, he is even stronger, he's overtaken me, he's too awesome, so I'll just focus on myself and hope I don't lose too badly"

Ugh. If there weren't people stronger than the ML that give him a good beating once in a while I would have dropped this book a long time ago. The martial arts system is also less developed and detailed than I would like it to be and it gets harder to differentiate between the levels but the fight scenes are awesome so long as you have a vivid imagination so I guess you can't have it all.

In short, if you want to read this book for the martial arts, you won't be satisfied. If you want romance, there's enough to make you sick of it. Just save it on your list when all the harem wuxia/xianxia/xuanhuan books make you want to blow your head of. For those just looking to be entertained, this book is perfect for you. <<less

i tried. I really do. I felt the story, its shounen-like and its romance was good... that is, if you can decipher the translation. I see others have also duly noted this and it shows. the very poor translations is so bad that it detracts you away from the story from trying to keep on fixing the grammatical errors in your head that you're exhausted only after a few or several chapters.

this review of mine couldn't even focus on the story itself too much because of the atrocity of which... more>> the translation quality lacks; it might be just a point or half-a-point above mtl. I felt like an archeologist digging through the sediments just to see bits of clarity here and there.

"translator"-san, hire an editor please, at the very least; or at least convince your overlords to do so. even just a once over will do wonders on the tragedy. <<less
