This story is ⅓ plot and ⅔ repetitive fill. There is no development of the characters, it's simply told how a couple meets each other and why they fall in love, and the whole universe behind them. The idea of the universe of history is very interesting, the author's writing is magnificent, but that isn't enough to face the tediousness of always reading the same situation and advancing every 20 chapters.

My favorite aspects of the story are ... more>>

Well damn. It's been a while since I've read a novel that genuinely impressed me, beyond its entertainment value, and this story is precisely that.

The characters are pretty incredible. Through a mix of the OG novel & this story, we see a lot of insights about the personalities. It's also quite a unique character; the way that MC is written is honestly pretty masterful. Experienced highs and lows, largely indifferent to many things, then slowly falling in love. There's also a very wonderful host of side characters, colourful and memorable... more>> in their own ways.

I also appreciate the process MC fell in love. It's pretty unique in that he did "love" ML already, but not actually ML because it was just the role that ML played. The author wrote how MC would notice aspects of the character in ML and where it conflicted very tastefully, and dimension was added with the second role ML played that was a totally different character.

The true amazing thing of this story is the plot and phenomenal worldbuilding. The overlays of the "original novel" and the current time was done very well. This is particularly impressive because the author also had to write across the world and the Abandoned World as well as across geographic distances. The multi-dimensional aspect was portrayed very well, especially given how difficult it is to be this ambitious and leave little plot-holes behind. There's so many possibilities when you consider that these transmigrators could come anywhere along the timeline and their various different motives / personalities. The scope of their potential actions is vast, so it's incredible that this story addressed it well.

I also enjoyed the other ideas the author depicted through subtext. The realism was well done; many stories of these apocalyptic theme tend to exaggerate the evil sides of humanity through writing, but here it insinuates just how bad humans can be rather than specially highlighting it. This type of 'diluted' method also build complexity in character and human relationships in my opinion. This is particularly clear with looking at the various side characters, specifically the ones with ulterior motives.

Another great thing about this story is that the author skillfully left the idea of "transmigrating into hero stories isn't actually all great and glamorous". Overall, in many ways, the realism of this story is incredible.

I will say I'm a bit upset that the "book transmigrators" were almost always depicted in a negative light. I don't think it's their fault either; heard a voice in their head asking if they want to transmigrate and agreeing? I bet half of them didn't think it was real or thought it was a dream. They're just another group of slightly dumb mostly innocent cannon fodders that dreamt of being someone great.

Someone's review highlighting the "strange prose" got a lot of likes and I'm guessing deterred a lot of people from this story. Firstly, let me say that the translation itself is actually pretty good, like it's not a problem of consistently terrible grammar. However, I do agree that in many situations although it felt like the English is fine I couldn't really understand what was happening, and jumped into the comments area for explanations. I think this is because the translations are edited MTL, so although there's no grammar or spelling mistakes, some ideas don't directly translate from the original language (Chinese). Personally, I didn't find this a very big deal, and I think it's a pity that people would miss out on this story because of it.

Lastly, I think the author's portrayal of the political situation is very interesting, especially in regards to the US-China relationship. It notes how Western literature can tend to villainize Chinese characters, but in the end the "big movie" the author writes is still starring the American hero protagonist with some side characters of other ethnicities. Note that politics isn't a big part of this story at all, it's just an ongoing consideration in the background that occasionally comes in but is written very realistically as well.

Anyway, very masterfully written story! <<less

Almost dropped it when I took a little break from reading I found I'm not interested enough to continue but it may be coincidence at first but it happened 2more times after. Once I got back to reading though it not gripping enough to stay up to binge read, the writing was good enough and smooth enough to make me forget my intentions to drop while reading. I only want to drop it when I'm not actively reading.

Still I think the premise is good and with much potential than used... more>> so it's a little frustrating that it didn't live up. <<less

One of the best plots and relationships of any novel I've ever read. Which means it blows most BL stories out of the water, because to be honest, most of the common BL fare is for quick gratification and has highly problematic and contrived plot devices.

This story resorts to none of that while being a highly interesting world with a gripping narrative.

Try to read but... So confusing. What's this story all about? Horror game? World travel? What? Don't know. If only their none multiple pov then this good. At least the confusing part will be less. The description is not so helpful at all to understand this story. Can't read this, need to find another one that more clear view.

Highly recommended! Planning to write a proper review ah but too sad that I finished reading this QAQ please bear with me.

The story is different from your typical doomsday setting and abilities setting. I mean who would have thought ? Will dominate lol.

Overall, story is good 5/5. MC and ML's romance pace might not be that fast compared to other novels but the sweetness once you get to taste meat and sugar is really worth it ah. Also the part where we get to see the supporting roles side makes... more>> the story more complete and interesting.

Also, the mystery behind everything and solving it makes you eager to learn for more.

Spoiler

Bad side tho is the reason why transmigrators arrived to their world was not really explained well. Still confused with that part maybe I did not read it enough? If someone knows, would love to receive dm! Xx

I think a sequel or spin off would be nice as well. I mean who wouldn't want to know more about our ? And ??

Lastly would love to thanks the translators for the effort. This story was not easy to translate, went to read the raws when this was still ongoing. Man can't stand it, got dizzy with the words. Some story are easy to MTL but this is a level up. Really thank you translator-sans! <<less

a really good novel, actually! It's actually kind of a satirical look at the genre of 'transmigrating into the novel' and really plays with reader perception and comprehension, as you have hundreds or thousands of 'book transmigrators' invade the book world and throw the whole plot into chaos. This means that the counter efforts are a big confused since how the various transmigrators understood the original plot and what details they remembered are... uh, weird.

I didn't find the novel hard to follow at all and even stayed up late a... more>> few nights to binge read it, only reluctantly going to bed just not to wake up miserable in the morning - not actually due to being tired! Sure, the translation is awkward at times, and since the s*x scenes are highly metaphorical (probably due to censorship issues), they can be hard to follow, but the plot flows pretty logically and the action scenes are clearly layed out.

In regards to our CP, the 'slow romance' is real, since despite the quickly heated atmosphere when our couple meet, they don't even kiss until about chapter 80, and then there's logistical issues to further intimacy. But the ML's pursuit of the MC is very nice to read, since he's very methodical but very mindful of the MC's comfort zone. It's a very skillful pursuit, although the author admits that his chasing methods only work for a peac*ck male god like him! There's no dogblood, no vinegar (other than self directed), and no misunderstandings. The MC is actually a deeply paranoid/insecure person, so the ML deliberately goes out of his way not to appear to be holding secrets or information back as to not be misunderstood. Although the atmosphere is tense between them for a while, once they do get together, the relationship is actually very warm and sweet.

The reactions of the people around them are hilarious though, since both ML and MC are regarded as 'living nuclear weapons' so... uh... their relationship drama could be related to national security haha. Luckily for the government, their relationship is very harmonious.

The MC's powers.... uh.... overall, this story is not as humorous as the summary might imply, although it's definitely not dark and angsty! But the MC's powers... eventually is very cute. Very humorous. I love MC's powers the most.

Overall I can declare this story one that I'll probably come back to read several times as a 'healing medicine' when other novels have too much drama and secondhand embarrassment. <<less

First review here, just coudn't sit still after reading all the available chapters.

This story is not only wonderfully interesting, with all the facts being slowly unravelled as it progresses, but is also written (and translated) beautifully. So, no spoon feeding, detailed explanations from the author, you slowly learn about this world from some clues left here and there. Personally, such novels, which alow the reader the pleasure of guessing and thinking about what is to come, are a total favourite of mine.

It's one of those stories you regret reading the... more>> synopsis for, since it gives away too much.

I would recommend this novel to anybody who likes mysteries, fantasy and survival stories. Also, worth mentioning, this is a BL, but as of now I can't say for certain how strongly does this influence the plot.

11 out of 10, and 110 out of 100. :) <<less

I read a complete translation on wattpad, not excellent translation but good enough to grasp 95% of the story if you know some basic chinese idioms. MTLs will definitely not be good enough because this is a complex novel featuring a complex chaotic universe, a huge cast of characters and complicated storyline.

Quite rare plot where it's the people in a book who fight back against book transmigrators and monsters. The protags' normal lives turned chaotic when they suddenly entered the 'Abandoned World', gained new abilities, and suddenly learned they are... more>> 'villain bosses' in a book. Together with some other allies, they fight back against the invaders by using not just their abilities but also clever entrapment and also military intelligencia. The protags are definitely not OP and they, themselves, know it. The MC is actually quite disgusted with his own ability. In fact both have no idea what to do at the start or who to trust. Thus, they choose to trust no one and proceed with care about everything. Not one single character is in control of anything in this chaotic universe and author does well in demonstrating this.

The story is not just about fighting off monsters but also quite an interesting portrayal of the chinese movie industry, the stuntman and acting profession, the relational problems of impersonating the character you transmigrate into, the intricacies of falling in love with an actor and much more. The author takes time to write the POVs of several key side characters which provides more depth to the story, but also makes everything more coherent. I loved Major Zhang, GengTian, Johnson Brown, Morenza and TuanTuan.

The romance is also very well written. I love the dynamic between the protags, their tacit understanding, their interactions, their conversations about their abilities, about life and death, about acting, about love, etc... I love how the romance develops and also how they interacted after becoming lovers. The author wrapped things well, even covering the afternath of the apocalypse. <<less

I think this story is rather good, the MC and ML are great, they have a certain depth and aren’t 2D. They have brains which in some books are nonexistent. Both of them are strong in their own ways.

I don’t know if the translation has changed or something, but I didn’t find it hard to read, it could also be possible I haven’t gotten far enough to reach the bad part of the translation?

The reasons I only 4 stared this gem is the blatant racism against Americans. I mean seriously,... more>> although there is some racism in America, writers are much more careful about it because of the large groups of LGBTQ+ and social groups out there that can cause a storm if they find any racist or sexist writings, ads, books, etc. So I find it hard to believe that a popular book and American author would blatantly use the Chinese as villains with their backstory not being abused, psychopaths, etc. And just random people on the street. I also dislike the Author’s racism against us when they weren’t willing to do their research.

Someone else also said the author didn’t do their research, which I agree with where they didn’t research that public schools through grade 12 are free and there shouldn’t be such problems with food as there are many government and state regulations on schools to provide students with low income families with lunch and depending on the school, breakfast as well. I also want to add to that, as a Lawyer’s daughter, although it is not impossible, but it is very rare that a child at such a young age would be placed with a gambler even if they were blood related as it would be considered dangerous and the child is much more likely to be placed into the system and placed in a foster home or some other living situation. Also, it is highly unlikely that a school will ignore multiple bruises on a child constantly appearing as it is mandated or required for teachers to report any type of abuse including constantly having unexplained bruises. A teacher can get in a lot of trouble for this, especially multiple teachers as the book implies. Lastly, even if the child was placed with the gambling uncle, it wouldn’t have lasted long as 20 days of not returning when there’s a kid means negligence which is very likely to be found and dealt with according to the law. The kid also seems to be rather intelligent and knowledgeable, so how could he have not gone to the police and how could the teacher and lawyer who cared not gone to the police causing this situation to be broken wide open?

Anyways, there is slight blatant racism and uncaring attitude towards research on other countries when the author was going to use in their book. They should have just kept it in China if they weren’t willing to research such obvious facts. It’s not too bad though, I’ve seen worse when considering racism or stereotypes against Americans or other countries from Chinese authors. It’s just this one was kinda a final straw for me.

Also, no one tell me if I don’t want to see this stuff then read American books. I read all sorts of books, as I said before I’ve read worse, and if it really gets too bad I’d stop reading, this isn’t one of them where I need to. I’m just stating facts and my observations for other readers if they want to know my thoughts. <<less

Went in expecting a somewhat funny romance showbiz novel, but ended up with a 1/4 showbiz and 3/4 apocalyptic novel. The apocalypse genre is something that I avoid like the plague; it's not my cup of tea, which is why I can't rate this novel a full 5 even if it's good. The novel starts off with people suddenly gaining special abilities, followed by people transmigrating into the world saying this is a novel. MC and ML are known OP villains in said novel, whereas the supposed protagonist of the... more>> novel is a US citizen and mostly unimportant to the story. MC signed to be ML's stuntman, and he also kind of like ML from the get-go. So did ML. But the Abandoned World happened which is kind of apocalyptic (but not exactly) and so they focused more on fighting to survive and escape from their novel fate. There was some romance here and there and it did develop bit by bit, but romance isn't the focus in this story. The world building was done well. However, the ending seems to have some weird plotholes of why it suddenly happened (or maybe it's the translation). Overall, in times of struggle, human nature is nasty, and I hate apocalyptic novels, but this one is mostly not too bad. Mushrooms are massive third wheels.

(Translation is mostly ok, but have weird sentence structure sometimes like some sentences which sounds like an "and" has a "but" so the sentence meaning is lost since you don't know which part of the sentence is the typo, although you could guess) <<less

I'm halfway through it but there have been countless times when I felt like dropping this.

Unlike other reviews, when I read this, the translation is okay. I guess the chapters were edited nicely.

The storyline, although it is novel in its own way, I couldn't help but found the writing style boring. There are descriptions about events/people/agencies everytime which I think excessive. I usually skipped them and went for the dialogs/actions. The pace is also unbearably slow. I'm at chapter 84 and the developments are rather little (in my opinion).

I need to say that it is a unique novel with distinct plot and characters. It is interesting to read and I am surely enjoyed it.

Still, the translation is nonexistent. I am not against mtl, actually, most novels I have read were finished through mtl. I don't mind +-30 chapters, but not the whole 200 chaptered novel.

So, even the premice is exciting, I still abandoned this work, because it became burdensome to involve myself in mtled plot.

The plot was unique for me! I've always read transmigration novels in the pov of the transmigrator, so it was really new to experience the pov of the original inhabitants of that world. I liked the plot and it was annoying how the book transmigrators messed it up so bad but im still thankful for them cause li fei and jian hua wouldn't have become like that. It was new because nothing honestly followed the already known plot (which was kind of a norm in transmigration stories) The fight scenes were cool and honestly unique, esp when they travelled literally EVERYWHERE lol.

Honestly, I still can't imagine jian hua much cause I don't know if he is usually straight faced or full of expression? Cause that's the reason why he couldn't be a hood actor right, I don't know if he looked cold or not, so I just imagined him in the middle. His outlook in life was really sad and im so happy he didn't blacken because he didn't experience all those things alone, esp the time when li fei was supposed to be comatosed? I understood him a bit more when he said that he didn't like not being control and with the abandoned world and stuff, nothing's under his control, I think he could have really been a last boss material. His ability is OP and cute heheheh, in the end, they became the mother figures of jian hua hahahhaa so cute! Always selling meng to their owner heehehe

li fei, I am also glad he didn't blacken, the real plot is possible cause he would have broken down real bad if he had been in that accident. I'm so glad he found jian hua, and the fact that jian hua wasn't his ideal hahahaha his drinking vinegar is unique loll

the other s class villains died so funnily hahahahhaa but it was a good riddance and actually reasonable deaths loll corgi is juat cute, but my favorite is still the mushrooms heheheh I'm glad there wasn't betrayals here. I wasn't really fond of many chapters for johnson only but I guess its alright, I loved it when their 3 fields are together and saves their lives. Johnson was obv pitiful, didn't get to live the life he was supposed to but I guess he gained a federico anw.

This was more focused on action and adventure and mystery but the hot scenes were still 🥵 heheheh behemoth and flame beast 😏
