When I started reading this novel I liked it a lot. The whole transmigration genre is so common now that there's hardly any novelty to be found (doesn't mean I dislike it, actually I'm addicted to that genre). I'm not saying that this novel is especially innovative, but it is somehow different and I liked it.

The MC is someone who got reborn after he had transmigrated and lived a super ignorant life of a minor canon fodder. After his rebirth his mind is cleared and he only wants his family... more>> and him to live happily. He doesn't want to take revenge he just wants to be happy. He gets entangled with the protagonist (=ML) and both of them become good brothers. So far it's a nice story. We can see how MC improves his cultivation and body and strives for experience. And there are some signs of ML coming to like MC although they are super small.

But both the MC and the ML are straight as it can be. And that's where it went downhill for me.

MC has encounters which are clearly created so that he will realize homosexuality exists

MC gets nearly r*ped by a mysterious boy and ML saves him. Afterwards the mysterious boy runs away and never appears again although he doesn't seem like some random h**ny passerby

and the start of the change in the relationship between MC and ML feels forced.

ML gets 'drugged' and r*pes a tied up ML. He feels very regretful and honestly apologizes (in a kinda hilarious way- you'll see it yourself). Afterwards they MC continues as if nothing ever happened while ML slowly realizes that he has feelings for MC

I have to admit that I only realized it at the end, but it seems like MC has no deep feelings despite the fear of ML (bcs ML killed him in the last life) and love for his dad. First I thought that he is just a bit detached but I guess MC is just a super flat character (and not just him) And the relationship with ML also just feels wrong. I still think that both of them are a good match, the wrong feeling stems from the toxic relationship they are forced into by the author.

But there is one good point in that, since MC has some realistic reactions to it

He's imprisoned and got his Dantian destroyed by ML (for a reason) and is scared of ML slaughtering him and his family and then gets drugged-and-raped once. So he never thinks that ML has actual tender feelings for him. So after forgiving him everything he just wants to separate and it takes a long time for him to accept ML

Also, I feel like a lot of people are scolding the ML (they are not wrong) but I think he has to be pitied for falling in love with MC

every time MC notices something about their feelings he doesn't want to think about it and then forgets it and continues like those feelings never existed. Even when he realizes that he's in love with ML he is very indifferent and doesn't think about it. Personally I can't stand it. Okay for not wanting to act on the feelings but at least think about it.

And then the end- I might have never read anything so anticlimactic. The content is fine but the way it's written doesn't feel satisfying at all and more like the author didn't feel like continuing to write.

Okay after all that lengthy talk, the novel is nice to read if you don't have a problem with any of the tags and want to pass some boredom. But don't expect too much. <<less

Like no sh*t MC doesn’t want to talk to you after you drug and r*pe him. I honestly feel like MC lived a better life in the version where he died than in this one.

Also in the end, the MC forgives the ML? After he stalks him and doesn’t really ever feel sorry for the r*pe? Like dude, even if you think it’s the last time you see him, it’s not ok. I hate that the ML never really felt apologetic for that - it felt like he apologized because oh he’s not dead now, but never realized he should just not have done that in the first place.

and the MC was fine traveling by himself; in the end it feels like he just gave up and said ok. It would have been a HE in my opinion if he had just lived with his family and ML left him alone.

I don't know what to think about it. The starting was nice, the story was flowing but then *dun dun dun* something happened which pretty much destroyed the storyline. I guess from around ch 65...I liked the beginning and their adventures. But the last 20-25 chapters were frustrating, like I literally couldn't help the curse the s*upidity of the main characters, way too many plot holes. The story totally went off track and was angsty. It's okay if it was just angsty but n- uh most of the things made... more>> no sense. A big spoiler ahead (warning)

Like the time when ML demolished mc's dantian. I literally wanted to kill the ml. The actions were impulsive and done without any thought or investigation. Just like that.

And then the ML imprisons, r*pes and then again chases after MC. Like damn. I was so so so frustrated.

why is non con always used as a plot device. if this was a smut novel I wouldnt be so irked or grossed out. but this is literally a "romance" novel. theres 0 romance.

also the ML r*pes the MC twice. first one was under influence so when the MC forgave him I kinda accepted it but the second?? made no sense??? he got angry and so he r*ped him?? the part that didnt make sense is the fact that the MC actually forgave him wtf... not to mention the reason why the ML got angry. its so dumb. so so so so so so dumb.

This novel...

I feel that both MC and ML has a lot of trial, hardship to get their happiness. I'm crying for both of them.

The end of this novel hit me hard. They really deserve each other.

Its the best decision for me not to drop this novel after I read few chapters.

So far only the 1st chapter is translated but it was pretty good. Read a few more chapters on danmeila dot com.

Synopsis: The MC transmigrates into Xianxia world thinking he's the Hero but ends up getting killed by another transmigrator who is the real hero. But after the MC returns to his "real world" and reads the Xianxia novel he transmigated into he wakes up back in time in the same book before he's killed off and decides to save himself & his novel family from the Protagonist. Unlike "Scum... more>> Villain Self-Saving System" or other similar novels, the MC doesn't choose to hug the Protagonist's thigh, instead chooses to not piss him off and avoid him as much as possible. Since the Protagonist is the ML, they of course cross paths again and again anyway.

MC also tries to swipe the Protagonist's "cheat", but predictably fails since he's not the hero of the story.

There's also a sub-plot about the MC losing weight because the girl he had a crush on the first time he transmigrated hated him because he was fat. Reading about her true feelings (which are pretty cold & shallow) in the novel set the MC on course of self-improvement & character growth. <<less

This novel is not that good. The beginning development of their relationship is pretty sweet, but the surrounding plot is very lacking and boring.

I think the fact the original translator dropped the novel because they didn't like the CP dynamic something to consider.

Additionally, the toxic elements of their relationship (read the tags) are extremely rushed, and were poorly executed. I love to hate on scum gongs, but this novel didn't successfully make me hate this ML. Yes, the ML sucks and does bad things to the MC, but the author... more>> almost treats those events as an after thought. Rather than focusing on these things, it gets brushed to the side, and essentially rushed in the last ten chapters.

There was a lot of foreshadowing that the ML is a dark character with twisted morals, so I think this darker turn could have been better explained and better executed. If you are interested in this novelbecause of the darker tags, and are looking for a twisted story, this isn't the place. Try "A Smile from the Villain".

There are also major plot points that annoyed me, and a lot of lazy writing:

Having some random spirit bound to the MCs body was pointless. She didn't do anything of significance except talk about how she couldn't help the MC. The only thing she did was save the ML's parents lives. Speaking of that, Having the MC "kill" the MLs parents, for example, was very annoying. It was pretty obvious they were not dead (since there were no bodies), and having these 'deaths' cause the ML to destroy the MC's cultivation and kidnap/imprison him was very very annoying and disappointing.

Also, despite the fact the MC and ML are both trasnmigators, they never discuss this with each other. The MC is aware the ML is a trasnmigrator, and it would have been nice to see them discuss this at some point. That could have potentially helped further their bond

I see other reviewers complain about the translator/proofreaders notes. Personally, this didn't bother me, and I enjoyed occasionally reading their comments. It's also very easy to skip over them.

These stop around chapter 61 since the original translator dropped the novel.

The fatphobia sucks. The misogyny around the female characters is typical for BLs, but I still don't like it.

Overall, not the best novel. Not the worst either, but you're better off reading other novels that are exectured better. <<less

It's actually not that bad, just that it may be the translator's earlier works so they are so interactive in the middle of the story. Just prepare your patience lmao. It has r*pe tag so I already prepared myself for the worse, but compared to other stories, this one is on the mild side. The only thing that gets me is that the author seemed in a hurry and always felt rushed to create conflicts then bringing in logic that just doesn't make sense.... more>> Lots of loopholes too. I don't mean to offend but the translation's also kinda wacky, mostly with cultivation terms. I was used to other translation teams that my mind can't help but notice the errors.

Also, don't expect a smooth flow of story. Just take everything at face value lmao <<less

I forgot to leave a review! I rated this as "4" but ngl it has been a while since I read this and I could barely remember what happened.

But I should have enjoyed it, so this is an enjoyable read especially if you are ok with straight to gay type of stories. :)

Okay, so like I really really get how the relationship progressed the way it did. And I like that the MC gets lots of time to grow and accept the ML way way in the future before they agree to be in a relationship.

But like I am so confused all the time about how old these characters are supposed to be and how much time is passing. Like they are like 13? And then what? They jump in age like time skip? But how much time passed? What the heck... more>> is happening?

Too many time skips you just don't know are happening makes it hard for me to know what is going on.

But I think I decided that in this new world, the protagonist role is maybe someone else even though it seems like it is still the same guy because there is like hints that another character is going on adventures outside the scope of the MC's knowledge. <<less

Honestly, this novel is realistic. Well, what can I say about the person who wrote a review about feeling forced about the ending/scene? I feel that MC forgave the ML because of time and loneliness, and when you read the dialogue, you can see that he and the ML both knew they were at fault. The ending, for me, is kind of sweet after the bitter chapters, and I have to say that people have their own views. The MC can forgive the ML because he knew that he had feelings for ML and there was a chapter where the MC mentioned that, as I said before, they are both at fault and the MC has mixed feelings for ML. Anyway, time heals the wounds even if scars remain.

so I completed this novel and although I gave 5 stars (i wanted to boost the rating a bit) for me it is actually a 4 (i kinda felt like it was 3.5 but I really really liked the MC and his father)

uhm this novel gave me a good laugh thanks to the MC 😌...

the plot is /too/ simple actually... so for those who love plot heavy story this novel might not be for you. but if youre looking for a good light read with a VERY ADORKABLE MC... more>> then GO GO! (read the tags before reading!)

So, this story and the characters are full of plot holes. Regarding the character consistency and plot developing it's all irregular and for the most part not logically developed.

Storyline is chop chop and done, often with surprising breaks.

Another thing that bugged me quickly is how fatphobia was described and addressed. The exaggeration is pe*verted and I hope that the person who thinks this way is looking like a model 24/7. It's obnoxious and disrespectful.

Translation's quite good but I can spot errors hmm esp after the chap the tl and pr said they didn't like where the plot was heading anymore. Maybe they're just weren't as motivated anymore. But ah r*pe alert and I don't feel the ML repented enough. But ig the lesson is that everything can be forgiven with time? Idk, can they? The plot also didn't feel consistent. Side characters could use some more development. I can see why this novel is rated comparatively quite low. Didn't have much substance.

Honestly, I... more>> liked everything up to where the author apparently got their smut part deleted. After that, things deteriorated pretty quickly.

I second Jay0's review lol I think the author forgot the ML was also a transmigrator midway.

Edit: Ah this reminds me, I actually had really high hopes for this novel at first--'I thought I was the protagonist but it turned out I was a mob character'. I had been humouring the idea to write from a mob character's perspective, and I mean an actual mob character, not mob character-turned ml/fl's love interest. So I was surprised to find it here? But welp lol it'd probably never step out from idea zone. Really though, the beginnings of this novel were very well thought out.

I feel like this story is very noisy and crowded with how the author wrote it, it's like there's two or three different themes throughout the end and I didnt understand several setting in it.

First it was cultivation world, MC rebirthed or was he transmigrated in his teenage years then met his killer again. Both applied to a cultivation medicine refining school then on they went to cultivate their power. Here we'd see beast, magic grass, magic pill, school bullies, school beauties. Oh all these took a big part in... more>> the story, but it'd be gone in the middle and we wouldnt read of it anymore, so no need to put attention to it.

Then we moved on to.... some kind of mixed plot of studying and competition, then it was gone immediately after a much thorough chapters abt them.

It was too unreasonable reason the author planned for ML parents death, MC golden finger soul reasoning was full of hole everywhere, and after it was revealed, it was done and gone immediately too.

Characters come and went so fast and honestly it was too pitiful for them to show up that it felt useless and far better if the author didnt invent that many filler characters.

I feel MC was a rebirthed character not someone from modern era that transmigrated there. And I was pretty confused with how time flew in that world, it's like time didnt move for MC and his father. <<less

I enjoyed the first half of the story, and really thought that it could go somewhere fun. But when the 'romance' started it all went awry in an unstoppable snowball of non-con, drama, sadness, and a complete lack of communication.

It was ok I guess. I skipped a lot of pages without any harm to my understanding of the plot.

The thing is... that from the begining I did not like both main characters at all... they were not positive heroes, definitely. By the end though Lin Xiao became a little bit more likeable, I guess.

I was not ok with Ling Luo behaviour towards LX but it kinda was expected from the genre and the blurb so this is not reason why I did not like the story.

It is just that... more>> most of the women were unlikeable and after ML and behaving selfishly and dishonestly to get him and also in general some plot lines felt kinda rough not progressing smoothly and some were introduced not sure for what reason at all.

Also I think I like cultivation world novels with little bit more focus on action than cultivation. But this is my personal taste, other ppl like the opposite. <<less

4.5/5 This novel is definitely a master piece for me, make me addicted and fall in love with it. I really love the interacting btw ML and MC, so sweet, so cute, so heart warming, a pure friendship of brothers, and I really love how MC isn't an easy type (it make sense since he's straight) . It's definitely my cup of tea.I don't know why the rating is so low probably many pp may feel unhappy abt the ending, and I am one of them as well. It's... more>> a happy ending, but some unreasonable plot twist/misunderstanding which make me disappointed so much. That's the reason why I deducted the rating, I even want to lower the rating, but overall the novel is just too good to be ignored. I highly recommend it!!! <<less

The plot and development was okay. That said, the ending was kind of disappointing in a sense. I mean, I know that some people would like open endings. But, somehow, the ending didn't bring much justice to such a beautiful story.

Heck, the 87 chapters seemed to be too few compared to the other Chinese and/or BL novels out there. It would have been better if the story was expanded to the point that Ling Luo and the MC having adventures in the Mainland while Ling Luo tries his best to... more>> make Lin Xiao fall in love with him. Having things going on like that would have been more enjoyable. Unless... The Author plans to write a sequel for this story..... If so, then that would be awesome. <<less
