Honestly one of the best redemption stories out there. I had low expectations after reading other reviews and I expected this to become another novel like "the abondened empress" but I loved this novel more than I expected. If abondened empress had a likable MC and wonderful second MLs and side characters, this is exactly the opposite. This story has a wonderful ML who does his best to redeem himself. All the misunderstandings occured between them are well constructed and logical unlike other novel where ML was manipulated all along... more>> by the big bad villain using poison or something.
Spoiler

ML started off as a scum in his previous life, with his mother treating him as an object, a tool for power. He liked MC but hid his affections because he was afraid of his mother manipulating him using his affections towards the MC. It didn't help that MC always chose her mother over him and didn't try to understand him at all. His only fault is not doing his proper research about MC's family condition and not trying to understand MC. There are questionable aspects like r*pe, but it is dubcon rather than r*pe. They are not an ordinary couple, they had to produce an heir to stabilize the throne. If she didn't like it, she could have rejected the marriage. She had all the chances to cancel her marriage to him after she misheard his conversation with his mother. The whole cheating scandal was made by him to attack the queen and he didn't bother explaining it to MC because she gave the impression of wanting him to take her half sister as a mistress to produce an heir. He didn't cheat on her and treated her well during her pregnancy. Her death was not caused by him at all and if he didn't prevent her deathly fall she could have died early. After her death he did all things in his power to give her justice and gave a second chance to both of them. In second life, he tries his best to redeem himself but the only thing I'm unsatisfied with him is forcing her to marry him, although he didn't try to force the physical act with her like other MLs. He gets better, ultimately respecting her choise to leave him with their baby.

[collapse]

The story is well crafted but every character except the ML and his mother empress are bland, even the MC. MC's sister has a really deep hatred towards her in both lives. Her hate can be justified in the second life since MC kicked her out of the mansion but in her first life when MC treated her the best, she unconditionally hated her, ultimately causing MC's death. MC is used as a tool by ML's mother but MC is someone she cared for to some extent. She is power hungry, a person who can do anything for the sake of power, but what she did to MC was really horrible and thank god ML killed her by his own two hands, allowing her to taste the betrayal that MC once experienced. MC's father is disgustingly biased towards his one daughter while completely abondening his other daughter and that actually doesn't make sense because he is the one that completely ruined the lives of two women and their children, not the other way around. Every other villain out there thinks that harming MC is the only way to get the throne or defeat the ML.

MC is the prime example of a person with a huge victim complex and most of past misunderstandings happened because of that attitude of hers.
Spoiler

I don't get her past obsession over her father's love. She is not a poor child who was completely neglected in her childhood. She had a loving, caring and strong mother who completely protected her from all of the harm, in addition to her affectionate maternal relatives. Normally a child who receives tons of love from one parent while his/her other parent completely neglected him/her would naturally be more biased towards the loving person while developing resentment or indifference towards the other. Her father didn't gave a rat's ass about her since the beginning, she knows about the crumbled relashionship of her parents, so I don't understand why she desperately longed for her father's affection even after he brought his illegitimate daughter home the moment his wife died? Even after she became an adult she did really s*upid things for the sake of that "toxic" paternal love. Asking her husband to dance with her gorgeous half sister at a prestigious event while their relashionship was not at the best was a really s*upid decision of hers. No wonder ML was disgusted with her, he would have thought she is a power hungry person who wanted to keep her position as a queen in any and every way possible since they really needed an heir at that time and sending your own sister to palace to produce an heir in her place is a common move used to protect the position as the queen.

She is very gullible, another damsel in distress, that kind of woman who need the constant monitoring of the ML to stay alive. Isolating herself besides a lake which allows any enemy to attack her, chasing after her villainous half sister who tried to kill her, mistaking a kidnapper as her cousin just because he knew their childhood song and going alone to meet her half sister who is in the death raw with her weak pregnant body, well only our dear MC would do it. Honestly ML is doing her a favour by taking her to his side, otherwise she would have ended up dead in a few days. It is understandable that she was poisoned to death while ML was simply unconscious for few days because she is a s*upid puppet queen with extremely low IQ.

OMG, the main couple are both shiet. At least the ML had character development and became a relatively better person, but the MC never changed and stayed shiet from start to finish. Cold, callous, insensitive, selfish, she's an even worse villain than the actual villains. Like, girl, you want the country to go WAR because your feelings were hurt? 90% of the problems in your life (and frankly, the lives of the people around you) was ultimately caused by YOU! Truly a textbook example of a whitewashed mentally-deficient abusive villainess,... more>> whose only saving grace is the fact that she's the MC and very good at playing the victim card! Everything else was fine, so it's 3 stars instead of one. <<less

WARNING:

Avoid the comments.

Avoid all the comments and the reviews and ANYTHING that mentions this novel.

... more>> It's being spoiled to death, and I think it deserves to be read from start to finish because it's very well written.

I won't put stars just now because the narrative is still in its infancy, we're just starting to get onto the main plot of the novel, but it's a novel about back stabs and intrigue and well, it's one of those novels that if it's spoiled it loses half its value... so just AVOID ALL COMMENTS.

There are a LOT of seeds being planted all around MC, it's very well done, it's got great world building, very competent author, very competent translator.

SO FAR, I would give it 5 stars, but, again, it's too early to give it stars... I don't know if all the author is planting will bloom into a beautiful flower or just rot in the ground, I have high hopes. <<less

This novel is has everything I hate about any story, only read if you are a masochist.

The main problems.

Spoiler

Igor: He describes you as a bad born, and he is, he treated her badly, he r*ped her, "" deceived "", produced an abortion, "" allowed her execution "
after that you as a reader consider it rubbish and you intuit that the story will go elsewhere, that Rhia will marry someone else and that revenge will be to eliminate Igor as KING.
But NOOOOOOOOOOOO let's make a toxic novel and whitewash Igor.
AT NO TIME can you get rid of the garbage that was Igor really wanted him to be the final boss.

I refuse to read this tr*sh.

But in this one where the plot revolves around where Igor the rapist, abuser, and baby's neighbor of Rhia has a new opportunity he is out of the limit.

[collapse]

Reading an NTR is more comfortable than this tr*sh.

The author literally justifies a rapist just because he has a troubled past.

I won't lie, my review is definitely lower due to the fact that some authors think that violence and r*pe can be forgiven if the rapist "truly loved" the person they r*ped. It's disheartening to see the in the first life how the FL's feelings being treated like dirt by everyone, and the author later expects the audience to forgive a rapist because they're good looking and have a tragic past.??/end rant

[collapse]

This is definitely a doozy to read through. Though I dislike the ML currently (and I'm not sure how much I'll care for him by the end), I definitely want to see the FL heal from her trauma. I'm not sure how much of her trauma will be healed by her own self journey, through potentially seeing the BS politics she was forced through previously, or with the ML's support.

Though I can already see how this novel will generally end, I anticipate the journey to the end for the FL. I also hope this novel shows the FL at a healthier and happier place soon, and I always like to see my FLs flourish ?

Side note - cheers to the translator of this novel! It's really well done, and truly 5 stars to them ?

both FL and ML (unfortunately, it's the douchebag husband) are reincarnated. The reason for the title is because the ML regretted the FLs death and treatment so much that when he got reincarnated too, he vowed to love her the way he couldn't do in the first life without asking for her heart in return.

I have some huge feelings about this one. There's a lot of rip your heart out angst and if that's what you're looking for, this story delivers in spades. I loved how they used multiple POV to illustrate how the misunderstandings arose between the leads because of differing expectations and backgrounds. It was a great demonstration of unreliable narration and how vital communication is to understanding and relationships. The writing flowed exceptionally well and the editing was fantastic - this story was much easier to understand than some of the... more>> others I have read, and I DEEPLY appreciate that. I really, REALLY enjoyed it for the realistic depiction of trauma and the aftereffects - both of the MCs would probably be diagnosed with CPTSD.

Spoiler

I especially liked how Igor realized that his past behavior really was abuse and r*pe, and that it genuinely was his fault for Rihannan not understanding what was going on behind the scenes because he never told her what their families were doing. Rihannan's reaction to being married (again) to her rapist and her determination to move forward with her life as a person who could feel love and enjoy s*x despite her past was a visceral gut punch for me, as a fellow r*pe survivor who was also married to their rapist.

[collapse]

I genuinely can NOT say too much about how much I appreciated the depiction of trauma and recovery. It made this SUCH a hard read but so, so worthwhile for me. I cried at multiple points in the story, and that's unusual for me. I was very pleased and surprised by the amount of introspection of both leads - they thought about what happened and how they were processing it, and came to a genuine understanding by having to put in the emotional labor and WORK for it. They learned from their mistakes and there was SO much character growth, especially in communication. The path forward was NOT straight, and that's rare in a lot of these stories, which added to the realism. This really was just a stunning story - I read it in about 2-3 days, and could not put it down. <<less

I actually want to rate this a 3.5 but that's not possible.

Spoiler

The author did a good job with shaking up the reader. To the point where the readers were giving me a headache. The story has an interesting theme of communication and trust. If those aren't present, a relationship is doomed to fail, which is exactly what happened with Rihannan's first marriage. Communication is key.

It's one of the things that had me skeptic from the beginning. As we only had Rhia's pov and I remember watching a programme about eyewitness and how the program mentioned that eyewitness aren't the most reliable sources. For an obvious reason. People are too clouded by their emotions and interest to make a proper judgement and that was exactly what happened here too.

I liked the idea how Rhia immediately kicked out her ungrateful father and twisted half-sister from her property and decided to live in a healthier environment. Aka her relatives, but thats as far as character development goes for this protagonist. She did not learn from her mistakes at all and keeps everything to herself, jumping to conclusions without solid proof, only for the ML to clear them up. I feel like their relationship this time is only one sided with Igor being the only one who tries to put effort in it and what gets he in return? Nothing? Well until the end of the story, but for the biggest part Rhia has not been conscious of the feelings of others at all, only living in her own world where she is the endless victim of her past and past relations without trying to make an active change. It makes me feel like like Igor is the main character instead of Rhia, since he is the only one who went through a proper character development and when he gave her the choice to leave with their unborn child or stay with him she didn't even took into account that she was going to prevent the father of her child from raising and loving their kid. She took the people around her who were supporting her for granted the moment she felt like things could turn to how they used to be back in the other timeline. Instead of trying to fight for her future she unjustifiably pushed people away who have been helping her. Princess Helena was given the cold shoulder when she assumed that she would sacrifice her own friend for her own freedom, while the girl ended up breaking her own foot while trying to contact Rhia. Before that she didn't even bother to trust her completely as a friend, because she assumed everything would repeat anyway. She wasn't any better to her family either. She created more trouble instead. This utter selfishness and lack of respect those who tried to help her frustrated me to no end, she keeps going back about how her other life was so awful and how she was depraved of love, while ignore the ones who currently want to be her support. As a main character She is extremely lacking, she does not advance the plot at all, it's the other characters that do. Her whole personality revolves around her victim mentality, being so called nice to everyone and her bias on her past life.

Even the queen ended up being a better woman in her second life. She ended up living quietly instead of trying to get in her son's way. While she had been awful as a mother, in-law and wife, she did came to accept her wrongdoings in her previous life and lamented over her mistakes, while accepting her punishment and lived quietly in her second life.

[collapse]

If it wasn't for Rhia's lacking personality and selfish actions, I would have rated this higher, otherwise the story gives us an important message about relationships, human's nature and forgiveness. Like how there are humans who can accept their faults and mistakes and try to better themselves, while others won't. The story also reminded me of Plato's Allegory of the cave. Which is one of my fav philosophical theories. <<less

It's kinda like every other rebirth story. So far I read up to ch 36. if you ask me, I thought this was going to be a good story but it's more like ehh. When she first stood up to her dad and everything else I liked it but when the author tried to write about the past it was kind of confusing. Two for somebody to be reborn it's really like she living till she die. You ran away and went to your mother home country and even... more>> there your still living in the past. Talking about you don't want to start a butterfly effect, well b*tch yu should of stayed home. You got a second chance at life for a reason. Maybe to change your past or to find the person who truly love you but once they be reborn they put on this I was 20 something years old when I died so I can't be a kid anymore type of vibe or I will never marry or have kids type of thing. The star is for the translator because they did a great job.

When I saw the comment that said this is like another 'Abandoned Empress', I should've listened. The ML is a rapist piece of tr*sh, MC/FL is s*upid for dutifully carrying out the role of tragic FL in her first life and even dumber for ending up with the tr*shy ML in her second turn. MC's sister is the definition of disposable villainess but she's there until the end of the story.

this novel encourages me to say that adults really really need therapy. Readers also need to take in historical settings to understand things.
Spoiler

The r*pe thing felt like people don't get what political marriages are/ don't understand the difference between dubious consent and actual noncon. It hurt her, and intimacy should NEVER make people uncomfortable. However, to put it into the nitty gritty so people can understand this in proportion of their own society. Its like a s*x worker who already agreed and gave consent before hand began to feel uncomfortable while in the midst of things. Being a queen entail that at some point you'll have s*x, in order to produce a child. If she didn't want to have s*x, it would make most sense not to apply to be married and especially not be a queen when the entire country is relying on you to have their next ruler. She has a MAJOR victim mentality and gives people the STRONG urge to either force her to obey for her own good or leave her tired of her nonsense. In some sense I feel like the ML shouldn't have forced her to marry him (even though she did the same to him before) but then again she would have died otherwise. If she literally took a moment to just stfu about her own problems and listened to ANYONE she would have known she's the problem. Real life is like that though, and as someone who's dealt with people who have a severe victim-complex its easy to develop a savior complex. The need to protect someone who really shouldn't be in control of their own life due to their destructive tendencies, she should be getting therapy and in NO position of power. I feel like her husband wanted to explain to her his perspective, and get closure from their first life versus an actual marriage. What he had for her wasn't love, it was an obsession to get closure. The only way he was going to get that from someone who will listen to no one or the clear results is to literally bend over backwards and work like a dead dog. Giving this novel and their characters a much needed therapy session. Its WAYY too common and realistic to see people like this. Hope to god, I never meet someone as bad as the FL.

Had to give it a lower score for the excessiveness of the story, but overall its VERY well done depiction of someone with a severe mental illness who refuses to take any action over her own life

This novel is for those who like misunderstandings. Both FL and ML never communicate properly and always make assumptions about the other's thoughts. Who is to blame?... more>>
Spoiler

Both FL and ML are to be blamed. It takes two to make a relationship work. But FL believes it is the responsibility of ML to shoulder their relationship. She blames every person's mistake on the ML. She doesn't stand up to save her only friend's family. Who in their right mind will not tell their friend about the impending danger to their family. She is just alive and is emotionally numb. She should first focus on getting into right mindset and focus on why she should live.

Then we have the ML who shoulders the blame of every character and loves the FL more than himself. He is trying to make the relationship work by giving her everything. He forces the FL to accept him which irks me. He knows he is at fault. He knows that he indirectly caused her death. Yet he goes again and pushes her to dire circumstances to accept him. Honestly she isn't that special. She isn't suitable to be a queen. So he could have let her live her second life instead of forcing her to marry him. But anyway, due to the untiring efforts of ML they finally have a happy relationship by the end.

This female lead needs some serious therapy for that inferiority complex she has going on there. Who comes back in time and does nothing to improve themselves. The half sister should be nothing if you chose to crush her.

She has looks, wealth and status. Don't just give up!!!!!!😭😭🤬

The male lead is the one that really made this story he did everything right (with in human constraints). He wasn't perfect but he tried to improve and avoid the previous tragedy.

I don't maybe she will get better.

I loved it!! I didn't have the highest hopes after finding out that FL goes back to the husband who 'abandoned' her but whoever wrote those reviews about that, please don't review it if you haven't finished the entire book. Don’t know what all the low reviews are about, but I am totally loving this. The ML and FL are totally relatable and loving without being overly sweet to the point of decay. I like how the past plays a big deal and the author doesn’t just gloss over the resolution to their breach of trust. It really goes to show ‘what you see is but part of the story’. I quit at c99. My problem is that FL was abused in her first life and she is going back to her abuser in the second. The worst thing is that it is literally the same person as he has his memories of the first life too.

People seem to think that the abuse in the first life is her misinterpreted POV, as we learn she is an unreliable narrator later. But that focuses on the affair with her half sister and her imprisonment and su*cide. My concern is with the... more>> neglect, abuse and forced s*x ML imposed before half sister even made it on the scene.

It is not surprising we find out ML had more complex feelings and it wasn't true hate, but his words and actions were very clear to her. And it will eternally frustrate me that people dismiss the impact that it will have on a child being emotionally abused and isolated for years by all of those closest to her. She has no power.

And she takes charge of her own destiny just fine in her second life before she is kidnapped at threat of war by the 'loving and misunderstood' ML. Quite why she has to give him a fresh chance is beyond me.

Reading the other reviews here, it is clear that people who completed the novel lost all sympathy for FL and found her extremely irritating. If that is the case then I don't find it a compelling reason to finish the novel and be moved to hate the character I start off rooting for.

My conclusion is that this is badly written with unlikeable characters. There is no romance here, only toxic angst. <<less
