The Godsfall Chronicles

Description

The nuclear holocaust which caused the collapse of the Old Times on Earth should have wiped out all human life on the planet. Yes, the gods set up their beautiful Elysiums to provide sanctuaries for their chosen, but by all rights everyone outside the elysian lands should’ve perished long ago. Yet somehow, human life still managed to persist, even in the deadly, mutant-infested wastelands.

Cloudhawk was a young scavenger who dreamed of being as free as the hawks in the skies, yet seemed destined to live out his life scrounging for scraps in the wasteland ruins. Fate, however, is ever-fickle. A chance meeting with a ragtag group of mercenaries changed the trajectory of his life, bringing him into a world with mutants and metahumans, demonhunters and godslayers, and even gods and demons. Cloudhawk would find his own place in a world that was far greater than he had imagined, find his own path between the zealous light of Sumeru and the whispering darkness of the Abyss… and one day, he would find that even gods may fall.

This series is one of the very best i've read, it consistently blew me away with how detailed every character's backstory was and how the author managed to make the story feel cohesive the entire way through. The characters were likeable and didnt feel like cardboard cutouts. Another bonus is that the author is not afraid to kill off characters that many grow attatched to and it is done exceptionally well - it hits you where it hurts.

In my opinion this is a must read for all.

its so tiring reading this novel, theres no brakes at all between fights

the wasteland idea is unique and the way author potrayed humans animalistic behaviour is also interesting, the gore is okay from time to time but the author clearly obsessed with it and makes unnecessary details

MC is the only good human there, its so strange how a shounen personality like MC could even exist in such world

i found that most of the tragedy around him could be avoided easily if MC could spend a few seconds to use his... more>> brain, he got reminder from powerhouse about a disaster but spend no time telling it to his friends, the friends all died to give him chance to escape and give them avenge when he is powerful, and then the next chapter he goes batsh*t and goes ret*rd by giving himself to the powerful enemy which got him screwed, when he nearly die some sh*t happens and he is fine, repeats this again and again with continuous fights.... <<less

where he was forced into contract cause he wasn't paying attention to the slimy innkeeper, which of course ends up in bloody fight w everything in the inn

N drag for waves of mutant beast fight n immediately after sweeper wave n AFTER That sticking his nose into other ppl business with ABSOLUTELY NO POWER TO EVEN PROTECT HIMSELF.

Gritty, Cruel and Savage.

Action packed, fast paced and a good world building. BUT...

The point of a reading a novel is to enjoy. This one simply does not allow you to take a moment of breather to enjoy.

... more>> No small scale victories, no moments of triumphs, and certainly no climax at all! If there was, the execution was so bad it hardly covers the depressed and stressful setting it went through.

So what does it leave you then? A cruel tortured MC that seems to struggle all the time. Bullied at every single step. The worst part is... he still retains his "humanity". So yes. 1 star because that's what a depressing writing deserves. <<less

This novel might be exceptional if the MC wasn't such a little b*tch. I really, really don't like him. Every time he is described as "typical wastelander", numb to the suffering and just caring for himself and then goes "I have to save the world". The most egregious example being ... more>>
Spoiler

how he just had to warn everyone in Skycloud from the atomic bomb - the same people that hate him

[collapse]

It is a total mess and really turns me off. At times he kills people just for pissing him off, but then goes saving everyone who just hunted and almost killed him - often he selectively forgets the cruelties his new "friends" just did, things he condemned a few chapters before, like cleansing a village and stuff. Also he is extremely s*upid and really doesn't use his mind.
Spoiler

If you are capable of teleporting and bringing stuff with you, why not just drop a bomb and then disappear? Also why drag the world into war when Arctus Cloude has the perfect plan? Why not just wait a few years?

[collapse]

He has very interesting abilities, but those are forgotten for parts of the story.
Spoiler

His pet sometimes disappears, the whole dimensional thing where he gets dragged into different dimensions suddenly stops, the "consuming" relics thing stops after his silence ability (which he never uses again) and then suddenly he doesn't need relics anymore, but still he doesn't become invisble,...

[collapse]

Otherwise this novel is supremely good - the world is cruel and has that Mad Max feel, the story is deep and slowly unravels (after six books I still don't know the dark secret of the world). The girls/harem are not too many, but it has that "beautiful girls always survive" outcome. As soon as a girl is described as somewhat beautiful you just know she will end up on the MCs side - no matter what she has done.

Also at times I would like the story to slow down and relish in the suffering around. For example in the beginning, when Cloudhawk enters his first town, the author describes some of the mutant prostit**es. This really brings you into the world. Later on none of that is described anymore, it just goes from A to B and then straight to the boss.

Note: I am judging this book from a higher standard. Even though this is a 4, this 4 is superior to many 5s I have given out. <<less

This novel is seriously full of plot holes as usual per novel and MC have a very frustrating scoundrel character. By that I mean a real frustrating damnable scoundrel, not a funny-hilarious-but-good-natured-actually scoundrel. I am rating this novel 1 star because I wish I don’t have to read such a novel.

In book 1, MC is always falling into one plot after another and surviving through them in ridiculous ways. About half a dozen times CONSECUTIVELY.

In book 2, he is saving strangers (Bloomnettle and Squall) he just met by risking his... more>> life, while the reasons why he did so are simply ridiculous. Such as, I am not saving the known-for-a-week-travel-companion captive (Squall) but doing so to slap the governor BY RISKING OWN LIFE.

In book 3, he is always using the swearing words (the author is too) and speaking like a scoundrel WITHOUT BRAIN. MC’s so-called friends (Squall,...) are always try to kick him down in some way while MC is always acting like a saint when he has the chance and saving people-and-even-enemies left and right. Worse off all, MC is ALL BARK AND NO BITE even to his enemies.

I am reading while clenching my teeth hoping to see a less frustrating character. Because I have read all the other good novels already. <<less

If you have a chance to witness how people r struggling to survive in our day-to-day world, this novel is for you. The fights against fate of the MC is, in a way, really similar to the fights for a living of the poor in third countries whose efforts always seem to pale in conparison to the hardships they face. Their world is full of dangers, and, so as to survive, they tend to become deceitful, malicious, jealous and greedy for the power they don't possess. However, They/Cloudhawk never give... more>> up on their family and most importantly never give up on hope. Just this realisticity was enough for me to give TGC a high rating. <<less

I decided to read this one because it had a 80 per cent approval rate on wuxia.

I've never read a novel this rushed before, its as if the author is speedrunning in writting ways to kill the MC, and at the end he was says' Lol, I was joking, I'm not killing you, here's some plot armor, you have 60 second to rest.'

... more>> There needs to be someone stronger to make the main character evolve, but no in every single chapter, damn let my man rest, jesus christ.

Some novels are fun to read, this is not one of them, it brings you back to high school, as you professor forces you to read and memorize 20 pages from a book you hate. <<less

Hello, I write for negative opinions, in my opinion the author did not know how to carry some parts, but the personality of the protagonist of which most people complain has a reason.. Before saying that the characters seemed quite good, little romance but if there is to 3/4 of the novel, the subject of the fights the writer is not the best the truth and the ending is open - cerrado

Spoiler

The protagonist from childhood was raised to obtain that type of personality, his father from chapter 1 was a God who was fattening him like a chicken for the slaughterhouse

[collapse]

Finally, to say that it is difficult to judge a book by reading only 100 chapters, for those bad comments.

Interesting setting as I like post-apocalyptic movies and books. I felt the story was lacking though. It's just non-stop action; the character going from one near death situation to the next. Perhaps the story will appeal to a certain type of reader. I got burnt out on it though and the reviews of people who read further indicate that there's no real end to the non-stop fighting.

3.5 ish to 4.

The pacing is fast, almost stressful. By the 5th book I just read it to finish.

MC battles someone who's 10 grades higher than him and survive - repeat.

... more>> Is the story is a book material? Well, if you'll compare it to the actual books in the market, maybe it'll score for about 5/10.

The difference of this one for being a light novel is that this story does not contains the of usual tropes of LN/WN, it comes close to books, but still can't be compared to the good ones.

Story: 7/10

World building: 6/10 <<less

I see a lot of comments talking about him having to bounce around and constantly getting betrayed. All I have to say is that it gets better.

Novel starts out kind of repetitive, which is a tad bit boring at times as it is the same crap happening over and over again (constant "well how is he gonna get out of this one"). Eventually once you get past these chapters the story does get way better and you kind of see hints of these in the earlier chapters. If you've read manga, its like the transition from average shounen to a great seinen manga. Surprisingly, the novel is pretty grounded, and the "repetitive situations" that our MC... more>> gets into makes a lot of sense (he's literally a worm scurrying around until he gets his big break) in terms of the whole setting. As for those who rated the story very low and have doubts about the "print quality" label that others have said, other print quality novels can be worse than this one. You just have to have a bit of patience. Veteran readers who've read alot can understand that having nothing to read sucks, and reading a volume or two of "boring"chapters is nothing at all (imo they are setup chapters and the payoff is good). All in all, this one is worth a read if you can handle the beginning. <<less

Unfortunate this novel has been postponed for around 3 weeks now. Its little bit risky for you to start it while there is a chance the author might dropped it. Maybe because The Author went too far with the plot, Its incredible at first, the dark Atmosphere it bring is totally made me feel creepy sometimes. But Its seem like there is some problem with the set up of MC

Spoiler

. Not sure but it seem like doesnt matter how many things happened to him, he was still unbelievable naive. He never learn and like a f*cking small candle in the dark, its nice but really annoying. Its happened for more than hundred chapters so yea =~=..

"You're already dead"

~Uwa Shock~

Well, like most post-apocalyptic series with martial arts as a base, this one starts off okay.

It has a unique premise (which is really just a hodgepodge of other post-fallout worlds).

It is kinda weird and off putting that he is a genius at martial arts, and it takes him a short time to become OP, but well, w/e, only a few chapters in.

It has room for growth. Hopefully it won't be full of bad chinese cliches is all I can say.
