The first 350 chapters are fine formulaic xianxia with nothing too bad or good, from chapter 350 onward the pace slows down to a crawl.

I would say the first chapter has more things going than 100+ chapters and that's a huge problem.

Later in the novel a side job for the main character to get some money turns into an arc... it's quite ridiculous.

Tl;dr : Good formulaic xianxia terrible pacing and too much padding stop it from achieving mediocrity.

This novel is the equivalent of literary junkfood. It's quite enjoyable to read especially if you like 'Young Masters thinks they're more powerful than the MC but gets curbstomped to oblivion by the MC' genre but it just ends there. It will not help you gain additional brain cell by reading it. It is quite predictable and repetitive. Villains are super flat. The MC will not fail to offend all haughty young masters he comes across no matter what dimension he is in and this novel never runs out of... more>> them. I haven't gotten bored of it yet so I guess that's a plus for it. I really enjoy the power progression (except the author forgot some of the power/special skills he introduced for the MC that needs levelling up). I also love the loyalty of the MC to his Dao partner. Quite refreshing to see after a ton of Japanese wannabe harem protagonists. <<less

Pretty good novel, lots of useless parts, lots of boring arcs, lots of short chapters, lots of pointless rabble. But when its actually useful chapters, its pretty good. However recently the novel has began a premium campaign for up-to-date chapters. Already un-popular novel, pretty greedy stuff at this rate. At any rate, don't bother picking up novel until its complete else you'd of wasted your time.

This is a novel that is pretty interesting if you have many chapters stacked up, but when you catch up to the translation you will notice that the author is just milking the chapters and nothing is really happening. So if you are planning to read this you should be prepared to hit your head against the wall when nothing has happened in 20 chapters and everyone is calling the MC useless.

I... really don't get the low reviews that have recently cropped up for this series. Why?!?!

First off, this series progresses slowly but makes up for it in worldbuilding, plot and character development. If you absolutely cannot stand slow progression, then this series isn't for you. But if you don't mind the trade-off, this is hands down one of the best series I've ever read. Yi Yun (male lead) differs from most protagonists in that he's not eager to show off or beat people up. If he's going to lose, he... more>> retreats to plot and beat them up another day -- he's very 'black-bellied.' Additionally, the artifact he has is actually not as OP as it seems and he starts off in a -100 sort of environment compared to other similar cultivation protagonists. He really has to work for it and it's enjoyable to see how he creatively uses his brain to solve problems. He also suffers losses.

The female lead is also quite interesting. She has her own motivations and goals and is a very strong person in her own right. Her conversations with YY also reveal a certain compatibility that's unusual for this genre, I think. It's less about 'let's have hot stuff' than 'we're the same kind of people and we like and trust each other, this person is my partner.'
Spoiler

The female lead is Lin Xintong

[collapse]

In summary, I love this series. Don't read it if you prefer something more action packed, but don't give it a bad rating simply because there's not enough vengeful bloodshed in it (i.e. like Meng Hao in the recent ISSTH chapters). <<less

Great xianxia!!! Those who say that they do not like this, probably do not like xianxia in general much. This novel is definitely not bland or boring. This story has great (and a lot of) action fights, interesting cultivation (and cool skills), very likable MC and some childish several thousand year old minor characters, who sometimes I find funny. I also like that MC's personality is very nonchalant, he does his own thing and tries to get strong to live better life with his loved ones and does not care... more>> if someone belittles him. He is more of a man of action and does not annoyingly talk too much about justice or how bad and arrogant opponent is, he just does his best to overcome his enemies and all other challenges. Also sometimes he is quit cunning and reminds me of Meng Hao. <<less

I actually want to give it a 2.5 stars for something in between “it is okay” and “I like”. To be frank, there’s absolutely nothing special about this novel. The reincarnation aspect is pretty bad. The “cheat” ability is simply the ability to absorb/steal “power” or “energy”. This simply means MC will “level up” much faster and easier. And for some reason or another, normal modern kid is “naturally gifted” and “talented” in martial arts. He is able to grasp techniques and whatnot very easily. Nothing really makes any sense... more>> if you ask me. Why is your average modern university student talented in martial arts? Why is your average modern university student obnoxiously smart and calm? In other worlds, it lacked a good background story.

The pacing of the novel is also a bit slow. You can read a whole chapter and it won’t progress anything and only give off some background information. Sometimes, it is useful while at others, you can skip it. This also means that you can skim chapters really fast and easily. And that’s the exact reason why I read 150+ chapters within a day or so. Yes, I can read rather fast but I mostly skimmed it as I won’t miss out on anything. There are two female leads in this novel. One is a sister (not by blood) and the other is a potential love interest. One is strong while the other is weak. This novel also suffers from MC having a weak female character that he needs to protect/save. It’s nice to have someone you want to protect but can that person be like Xiao Wu from Douluo Dalu and not just Princess Peach from Mario? As for the plot, so far it follows a typical one. MC starts off at a rundown village and he slowly gets stronger. Then he progresses to an academy or training camp of some sort. Stuff like that. I guess in this aspect, it sort of resembles The Desolated Era but The Desolated Era has a lot more action. It’s not, as of yet, a mindless fight after fight plot.

Despite all that, if you do enjoy this genre and type of story, I do recommend it. It’s a rather nice “everything out of an idiot’s guide” type of novel but not taking it too far. Is this something I will look forward to each new chapter? Nope. I’ll probably forget about it or come back after weeks or months to read in a bulk. <<less

[Lol yeah. Its funny how the author always uses the excuse of trying to create something unique and different from his previous stories, yet he's basically repeating the same sh*t over and over again.
1) starts at the lowest level possible with no background or support.
2) Becomes enemies with someone who has a strong background.
3) Shows his talent as a Desolate Master gaining the interest of some people.
4) Starts getting stronger and participates in some kind of tournament.
5) Against all odds, our MC obtains first place,... more>> and gains the support of even more people.
6) Gets a power-up, and then some kind of bad sh*t happens to our protagonist where he has to risk his life.
7) Escapes and gets stronger.
8) Solves problem.
9) Goes to a higher realm/place
Now just reread this list 5/6 times and you have True Martial world until last chapter

Dont even wanna bother about all that shi* with terminal meridians that seemed so important but in fact it was all nonsens

I'm just split this novel in two parts, 1-1051 chapter and 1052+ chapter.
First part is briliant, character development, world building, cultivation, fights, tension, pace. There are a few flaws but a good parts decimate them. 5/5

Second part is an incoherent mess. It's a story lines of 60-80 chapter with no actual connection between them. MC start changing location and create an enemies for no reason. If before MC was in conflict because of environment, now MC starts creating conflicts. He became an arrogant young master trope. And I'm okay... more>> with arrogant MC, but Yi Yun has no right to be arrogant. Everything he has now only because of Purple Card, that fall in to his hand by luck, if he give it away to any other genius, they will have better result. MC in Prequel had magic cube as auxiliary tool, that only place him in same position as normal person of higher realm, everything else he get himself, Lin Ming has right to be arrogant, but he never create a conflicts, he lived in conflicts time.

Because of a mess that autor made, problems from first part of novel became hightliten, young masters that wants beautiful woman, beautiful woman that just don't give a sh*t about everything, beautiful woman that appears from nowhere to help MC for no reason, etsetera. And this character tropes applied in every new location that MC visit, to irritate you, to compel you stop reading this novel and leave autor alone, I have no other explanation for second part. 1/5 <<less

I refuse to give a Star Rating. Simple reasoning is I am still reading but at the same time question myself as to why I am still reading.

The story is not poorly written, the characters arnt drab 2D cutouts and blahblahblah. It has all the makings of a good book but lets go look at the negatives which are also very... heavily influenced by personal opinion and bias.

Negative 1 can be said here before possible spoilers....

If something can be said in one sentence, explained in a paragraph and explained with... more>> flowery words in two paragraphs, this author manages to drag it out, beat it to death like a dead horse and explain it in half a chapter. It has that same old gripe of mine with too many words, not enough information. Literally half a chapter could be summed up with "Due to the distance between these two great nations, information is hard to come by on these individuals." yet the author felt it should take up about 7+ paragraphs worth of text.

As of chapter 555, I feel if all the bullsh*t word fluff and padding got trimmed down to an acceptable level, I would be at chapter 250+/-, 300 at most. Just goes to show that skipping almost entire chapters which the author groans over writing doesnt actually make you miss any pertinent information.

Placing Spoiler because some of it is and I dont feel like filtering.

Spoiler

It got blocky... sorry.

Romance isnt a tag yet the MC gets a woman. Heres the reason. It is not a romantic relationship. It is purely for the "love interests" survival and the main characters overpowering setup. My question is why? Xintong (the foil at this point) gets characterized well (better than some romance tagged love interests funny enough) yet just turns into a c*ckholster so the main character can get stronger by banging away (well alright, he has to follow an ancient karma sutra books instructions but still). Why? Whywhywhywhywhy? She literally comes across as a nice big sister, then a friend, then a love interest, now shes just a s*x toy to be used and left alone. Literally Xintong says "No matter what your decisions, I will silently follow and support you.”.. f*ck THAT! It literally just means "You can f*ck me all day long to get stronger (though I benefit too) but if you need help killing some mofos, just say the word and this piece of ass will do so!" Might as well just change it to "Yes Master. Put my ass here Master? You want me to be quiet Master? Alright, pu*sy will sit in the corner now." Im a guy and this makes me depressed. Why characterize her so well just to make her a silent f*cktoy? At this point shes just a blowup doll that can fight when required.

[collapse]

Yeah those are my biggest gripes. I mean its a giant walking talking cliche story but what isnt after reading hundreds, possibly thousands of stories? Sooner or later you realize originality is a god send that should be praised to the point of making others want to kill themselves from inferiority complexes because its just so f*cking rare at this point. <<less

The writing style - It's very redundant and full of self-explanatory or irrelevant details. It feels like how kids nowadays who will repeat the same thing over and over in different ways, or add unnecessary information (infodump), in order to make their essays longer. Additionally, the style is also very matter-of-fact, not much personality and visual explanatory (personality of characters, relationships, tension, suspense, mystery, and background).

This is a fine example of all good things come to end. The novel was amazing at the start. It kept me coming back for more and waiting for the next chapter to be release. But as the story progress everything just slowly went down hill. I tried my best to push through even got to the arc where MC and main girl acknowledge each other but then splits up. After that the flare this novel had just die.

The lack of interaction between the couple even though its suppose to... more>> be "romance" was just painful and I mean even far less than Stellar Transformation, which spam over a majority of the arcs and passage through 2 realms before the two leads even came close to each other. That still had way more interaction and development with the leads than the MC and main girl in this novel.

Along with the repetitive cliche plot and slow development, I have no further interest in this novel. Others might find it appealing but the spark that drawn me in to it just die. I won't be harsh though and give it a 3/5 because I did enjoy it when I first got into it, maybe might binge read this once its complete but until then will leave it as it is. <<less

I rated it 3 but later realized it needs to be rated even lower, somewhere around 2. First, let me say this - Gravity Tales translation is top notch.

And thats what exactly shows what is wrong with the novel. In the footnotes of one of the novels, the author really lets people know of his plans to "change things around". So MC goes from near invincible, nearly unbeatable to helpless in couple of chapters. Now I don't mind author setting up story where MC is not the top dog all... more>> the time, this twist feels more like tacked one than a well thought one. The author thought, well how do I change it from the typical LN story to something awesome? Yes, lets bring in something which has never been established during the world building. <<less

It is quite sad the story became the typical volume filler novel. You can really see the downhill development every 150 or 200 chaps.

It starts out very interesting and pretty engaging. But I guess the authors only drive at some point was not to follow a well thought out story line but to reach the character limit for the next payout goal. I really wouldn't mind if the quality wouldn't suck so much right now (chapter 560...) and wouldn't be more or less generic Xianxia bullshit.

I guess at some point... more>> he does not even has to think about it anymore, because 30% is repetition you've read about 50 times already and 60% (more often than not 70%) is meaningless filler.

Like other reviews mentioned before, there is really no need to read a chapter, just a glance is more than enough. You could even skip chapters and wouldn't miss a thing.

Spoiler

And that Lin Xintong now follows him like some lobotomized kitten pisses me off big time! I know, it's destiny... Pffft!

[collapse]

It really is disappointing. Maybe the author should concentrate on one project. This will eventually be a drop for me and I hope MW, which is still decent, doesn't follow suit. <<less

4.5 The beginning is extremely slow but super enjoyable as it gives the feeling of an actual world and environment. There are some scenes where they just bash on the MC, it's good but frustrating. Definitely worth the read.

If there is a problem is that the author simply loves to lengthen the chapter. I know it takes some time to build the setting, character, and plot, but not nearly as much as he does though. If he needs to take a long break to write new chapter, think of new... more>> plots and characters, go ahead take it, but do not worsen the novel. It is a super good novel but it just feels that its progress it too slow.

Edit: 3.2 as of ch 578 The chapters are getting increasingly shorter, so much that is probably a third of a DE chapter. Not only that it is getting extremely redundant. The author constitutes 70% of the chapter with info already previously presented, and just finds thousands of ways to say the same thing. One more annoying thing is that he is not focusing on. The MC anymore. Around the ch 400's it is more and more how the surroundings perceive the MC. It is getting absolutely annoying and repetitive. Do not read. Read it after its finished if not the author will drive you insane. <<less

Great world building, good character development, theres also good plot. The best arc for me would be the divine wilderness act, the action in these arc are well written and the MC also had to suffer some hardship before he can reap benefit. (not like some xianxia where the MC just stumble on the ground and found some artifact).

The current translator also have done a great job with their current pace (catching up with the raws) likewise the quality. This is one of the xianxia which im anticipated the most...
